Hi,
I got hold of a Samsung i325 smart phone. The phone was hooked up to the Telecom New Zealand network. Of course I couldn't resist the temptation and downloaded and installed the upgrade from the Samsungusa website. After installing I discovered that it was not just an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1, but also includes all kinds of settings for some other provider called Sprint.
Before the upgrade the phone would work fine with Simcards from Vodafone and 2degrees.
I tried whatever I could think of, but since the upgrade I can't get the simcards to work.
Is there a way to undo the upgrade?
I have a similar phone which still has the Windows Mobile 6.0 installed. Can I create an image from this phone and copy it onto the other (upgraded) phone?
Or can I make it somehow detect the simcards again under Windows Mobile 6.1? (I do like the added features, like SDHC support, GPS, etc.)
All suggestions welcome..

Sprint is a Cell Company based on the US...they are on a CDMA network hence your issue...go back to the Samsung website and find the ROM for your specific device and cell carrier
Another option is for you to head over to the forum specific for your thread and download a custom ROM for your phone
Hi,
Can you give me a bit more info on where to find the custom ROMs? Any rom to get it to work with random GSM Simcards would be great!
Cheers

do you know how to make it work properly??
thanks and
see you later

I have installed that very blackberry connect 4.0.
in what language is the rom of vodafone Netherlands???? do you think it could be possible to install it on my spanish palm treo 750v????
can you navigate the net using the blackberry 4.0 rate???
thanks
The Vodafone Netherlands ROM is in english, you can install it on every Treo 750v (losing your spanish language of course). Seems that your ROM is too old to run 4.0, what's its version 1.12.a or 1.12.b?
Yes I can browse the internet via the new BlackBerry browser in the BlackBerry folder in the programs. With BB connect 2.1 you could only use the normal connection via your operators APN and the BlackBerry service stopped. Cool new features especially when you are on a BES!

when you say rom version, do you mean firmware??? if so, my firmware version is 1.12.0a.00
if not, where can I see the rm version???
if my rom version is too old, where can I donwload a newer vodafone rom version which let me use blackberry connect 4.0 properly???
other question is can you listen to the radio through the blackberry connection from your treo??
thanks buddy
Yes I meant the firmware version and yours is 1.12.a which is the first coming out for the 750v. As you have issues it seems that it can' t run BB connect 4.0. The newer Vodafone Netherlands ROM is easy to find in this forum, here is the direct link:
http://rapidshare.com/files/17764237/2007-02-15_Treo_750v_NL.rar
I never tried to listen to internet radio with the BB browser. I would not recommend that, quite sure that you have a 5MB limit or a similar one in your BlackBerry plan, could be an expensive experience

ok thanks,
with this nwe installation i suppose i will lose my warranty, right??? if so, do you kno how can I dump my own rom version and keep it safe just in case i would like to downgrade my treo???
I don' t know how to dump your old ROM, I guess you'll need the original spanish one. Maybe other guys can help here?
Before you flash the ROM: Did you install BB connect on the storage card? It should be installed in the device storage! Did you try a hard reset and then install BB connect again? Any other applications like Active Sync running to sync your contacts, calendar and so on?

I installed it on the device storage memory, not on the minisd card. but i didn´t try a hard reset before it, do you recommend it?
Well before flashing a new ROM without the option to switch back I would try everything to get it to work with the old one. Normally when the ROM does not fit the BB connect client you see that no PIN is generated (PIN pending or something like that). Or you have a PIN but as soon as the client connects to RIM the connection is stopped cause RIM does not accept your device ID.
If you never get a PIN or never a connection to RIM then its definitevely the wrong firmware for the 4.0 client.
Good luck.

it generates a correct PIN and IMEI, but it doesn´t connect at all, and it does not appear the blackberry icon which theorically would let me surf the net using my blackberry service rate. Its installation causes a problem on my today screen as i said before, becasue it makes disappear all the calendar, contacts options,... and when i go to the today-screen configuration it doesn´t let me check again calendar, contacts, owner info,... because they simply don´t exist, they don´t appear as an option, the only option you can check or uncheck is the date, nothing more
what do you think??

ok, don´t worry, I´ve just install the new firmware you told me and everything seems to be fine, except blackberry service 4.0. Now I don´t have the today-screen problem I told you before, the problem is that it does not connect and in the identity:
PIN: Pending
IMEI: Radio Off
IP address: NO connection
does anyone know how can I make it work???
thanks
After flashing the ROM (message "Update Success") you should first do a hard reset. Have you done that?
As you flashed the ROM you have lost your GPRS connection settings. Did you enter the Vodafone Spain GPRS settings in Start>Settings>Connections?
Also make sure by checking the task manager that no Internet Explorer or Active Sync are running in the background.

I just did a soft reset, i´ll try a hard reset right now
After installing BB connect 4.0 again, do a soft reset. Then make sure that the radio is switched on and check your GPRS connection settings. Then tap the BB symbol in Settings System. It will say "Preparing for first use" and after some seconds it will require another soft reset.
I have just hard reset my device and install balckberry connect 4.0 again, reboot it, but still PIN pending and IMEI Radio Off.
I have´t install de GPRS connection settings yet, is it compulsoy to make it work???
I use blackberry as a personal user, not for enterprise. But if I install the blackberry connect 2.0 it just work fine.
It works for BIS (personal Internet Service) and BES (Enterprise). I tried both with this 1.12.0.c firmware without any problems. When it asks for the PIM options (calendar, contacts, etc.) you have checked no checkbox, right? And the Treo is not cradled or connected to your PC via cable, right? And Active Sync or IE are not running in the background, right?

I´ve just followed your instructions, but nothing is resolved yet. The PIN is still pending and the IMEI Radio Off.
Are you on UMTS? Try to switch the band to GSM only.
And check if you really have this at Settings>About>Phone:
Software Version: Palm Build 7, HTC Version 1.16
Firmware Version: 1.12.0c.00
That' s the version which runs BB connect 4.0 without issues, I' ve seen a lot of other postings in other forums of other people using it.
Also make sure that your BlackBerry provisioning at Vodafone Spain is correct.
Hi folks,
Does anyone have information RE: the release date for WinMo 6.1 for the HTC s640? The Touch got its update a few weeks back, can we expect the same?
Telus is promising an update for RevA capability, I assume this will come with 6.1.
Im interested to know as well, been waiting.. and waiting... and waiting and getting very tired. When will we enjoy the upgrage?
Pretty stupid we haven't seen an update for the S640 yet! Telus doesn't even have any 6.1 Smartphone Standard devices... something that I find awefully wierd considering their promotion of WM devices and smartphone in general. This is seriously stupid. Even the old crusty S620 has the WM6.1 upgrade kicking around for it!
ya, new update came out.
and it's a wm6 update.
lol
nice telus.
I just installed the update on my phone. GPS still doesn't work for me; a Telus rep told me it would be included in this update.
No WM6.1 and no GPS. I am very disappointed by this.
quick update... I was able to get GPS working on my s640 using the instructions/apps found in this post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36639
When using the GetSPC app on your phone, enter your HEX ESN in the top input box, push the left key twice until you don't see a cursor, then click the middle button. There is an "invisible" go button that the s640 doesn't display in this app... it should generate your SPC in the lower box.
I'm able to use both Gmaps and Live Maps w/ GPS now.
Enjoy!
I can verify Tatusmi success with his GPS, I updated my s640 via HTC's website, and followed along the instructions from the link he provided and the SPC program (after figuring it out it was case sensitive).
Good work Tatusmi, a feature that should have always been active now works.
I got the above to work )for a telus s640(. (although I lost everything on my phone because my activesync was messed).
But the HTC update to 3.0 worked great. The GPS enabled instructions worked flawlessly. I got google maps to find 10+ gps signals and was able to find my location.
but, I can't get TOMTOM to work. Won't find the internal GPS
NAV4all just sucks.
I am working on Garmin mobile XT to try it out - but I keep getting stuck with it triing to find a bluetooth unit. And it doesn't give the option to choose internal or com port or nothing.
any ideas?
nevermind, I got garmin to work.
Just couldn't get it to work automatically with some card id or something.
had to open garmin. go to settings -> about -> and the cardid is listed there.
once that is good, everything shows up properly.
I can write WM6.1 rom for s640. My ICQ - 731889 - write to me.
strik3r, I don't use ICQ anymore... can't you post here or use PMs?
Glad I could help you guys with the GPS!
I dont know about anyone else , But id be more excited to see Android on this device then 6.1 .... dont get me wrong winmo is a good plat. But Android would be killer ..
Ive been doing a little research .. and the Htc Vogue has a android version running and you can fallow the few steps to get it running with haret . well kinda .
Anyway just curious to know if anyone else has had any luck with linux on this device or anyone willing to help getting linux running on this device .

I've received confirmation from telus that they're not going to upgrade the Iris's rom. apparently there were compatibility issues, but i don't buy it.
I think someone should do this themselves, much akin to what seems to have been done in the other forums to other phones aka the 620. I'd do it but I really have no idea where to start.

I also received confirmation from Telus that this phone would never see WinMo 6.1, nor would any of their other existing WinMo Standard devices.
The line they gave you about compatibility is bull though, I called HTC about it and they said there is absolutely no reason why this phone can't run 6.1, it has more than the minimum required hardware.
I'd love to see a cooked version of 6.1 for the phone, but I also don't know where to start. I also don't use ICQ anymore so I can't seek out striker's help. Andrioid would be neat too, I don't have any experience with it... but anything is better than tired ole WinMo 6.
Well what a pissoff. 6.1s so nice. Makes me angry I didn't get a touch
IT WORKS on TELUS S640 with GOOGLE MAPS!!!
Thanks for all the information , I could not locate the driver that was listed in c:\windows\system32\drivers so I found drivers that work. Awsome, thanks everyone. Just a side note to take the phone out of diagnostic mode just ##3424 then hit "send" (same as to put into diag mode).
Confirmation on S640 GPS
i just want to confirm, so the s640 tweak for the gps, worked for telus s640.
i just need to confirm that once this is done, i would be able to use google maps to get my location using the internal gps of the phone or how ?
cause right now i am using a bluetooth gps to get navigation on my winmo. with out having to do anything to the Registrer or any other tweaks.
can you please confirm

I am wondering if you could help me in getting garmin to work on my S640, as i too am having problems with TOMTOM and GARMIN ?
do you have the REVA update for your phone?
and what have you done so far to get gps to work?
hello..., i would like for somebody to please help me out..., i am new, and i had two questions....
1) i have an htc touch from alltel flashed to metropcs, but i have an issue the gps does not work on google maps, i have internet, but i just can't get my GPS to work..... is there any way i can fix this???????
also i use GPSID SETTINGS...... AND IT tells me "failed to update Gps driver"
and i have also used htc gps tools, and it also tells me unable to open com, my settings are com 4, baud rate 4800, and manage automatically by windows...........and it is runing the latest rom by htc...
i also wanted to try to reflash my phone to manufacture settings..... like hard reseting it, but i don't want to lose the Metropcs flah settings....because last time i did it i had to pay them for they could reflash it????
Did you check that you have a GPS enabled radio? What's your current radio version?
Yup
well my radio version is 3.42.30, and also i am currently using an task maneger, in which i see a whole bunch of settings..., and when i go to the Devices Option... it shows alot of like little processors(e.g. TAI, BAT1, BAT2)
AND IN THE VERY BOTTOM THERE ARE 3 THAT SAY UNLOADED AND THE RESTS SAY THAT THEY ARE LOADED..... TH 3 THAT AR NOT LOADED ARE GPD0, GPS1, AND SIM????? IS THERE any way i can load thes 2???
Did the GPS ever work on the MetroPCS ROM? The HTC Touch was never advertised with GPS so the guys on the Touch forum unlocked it with custom ROMs. Some carriers chose to hide the GPS feature (like Sprint I believe, and Bell Canada's stock rom doesn't allow GPS either) so maybe the MetroPCS rom has disabled the GPS.
Hmmm??
well to be honest, i don't have a metropcs rom, and i do not know how to get one, also the currently rom that i have installed on my touch VOGU100, is the Alltel rom, which is windows mobile 6.1, and is there any way i can enable gpsone on the touch?????? cause with the current rom it is disable, and the only thing for gps that is enabled is GPD0. I USE Task Manager 3.1 to verify this....
Hello Everyone,
I have the HTC touch pro 2 - sprint (USA)
IT is already unlocked...I got from a shop in thailand already sim (and radio unlocked, i think) and work fine! (but i dunno how they did it..)
all: 3G, Gprs, Hdpsa, GPS and all software works! In thailand and Italy..(I dunno about american radio, didnt check but for me irrilevant now).
but i would like to put windows 6.5. thinking i can have more options and speed then 6.1.
what u would suggest? and eventually how can i do?
I need to change the ROM to install windows 6.5?
thanks
Anjo
PS: eventually can I put Android?
You can put android on it whenever, android boots from the WM OS, just place the files in the root of your SD card and load it.
I'm not sure what special provisioning that cell shop did, but flashing a custom ROM might erase some of the settings that they input, rendering your phone not usable....most likely you should be fine though. Call and ask the shop if installing the stock 6.5 ROM will mess anything up.
6.5 is slower than 6.1. Installing any rom will require you to create the correct mms and data connection settings for your gsm carrier
Hi there,
I have a T-Mobile badged HTC HD2 [That is shipped in the Black colour box]. I have hacked it for multi-boot - WP 7.5 (8107) & Android (American Android).
Android works supremely awesome. I can take calls, do calls as well as use mobile data connectivity.
WP 7.5, prima facie, rocks. I can call, take calls & do everything on data BUT ONLY in Wi-Fi mode. I do not get any data reception, GPRS/Edge or 3G. Now let me fill in the details.
- I am currently residing in India, Bombay
- My mobile operator is Vodafone
- My username login for the Windows Market is in the US domain
- I have put in the relevant details in the APN settings but still no luck
- I was by a Vodafone engineer that Vodafone India blocks data connectivity for T-Mobile, AT&T devices (Which is a joke because my T-Mobile HD2 gets connected to data on Android). Ergo, I put a sim of another Mobile operator - Tata Docomo, but no avail. Data still didn't get activated.
- As a desperate resort, I flashed a freely available T-Mobile radio - 2.12.50.02_2, but still no luck.
I have a couple of thoughts/conclusions & I may be right or wrong -
- Android works because its Open Source et al
- Could it be that WP7 is doing some sort of check on my HD2 & hence there is a problem?
- Could it be that on a hardware/software radio level, the T-Mobile HD2 is not compatible with the Indian mobile standards? Highly unlikey but hey who knows..
- Do I have to try every relevant TMOUS radio option out there (GASP!!!) & there is an assurance that atleast one might work?
I have not come across a single incident like this on the Web or in XDA so I am wondering whether I am a random anamoly.
Any help/pointers is a big welcome.
Thanks for taking your time out reading this post & a great new year ahead to you!!!!
From my experiences with flashing Android phones, this happens because your system isn't connecting to the radio properly. Its an issue with your install of WP7.5; you may be missing a particular library, or your system may be configured incorrectly. Since data works on Android for you, it definitely isn't a hardware issue.
I have had a very similar issue happen while upgrading my girlfriend's X10MiniPro: no data connectivity. It was caused by having an incompatible baseband for the RIL library that came with the ROM.
Whoa!!! Thanks a ton for the indepth reply mate. You have given me a new perspective on this. I never thought of it actually. This means I have two choices -
- Either flash a new WP 7.5 version (& Hope it works)
or
- Flash a couple of compatible TMOUS radios & figure out which would work best with my verison of WP 7.5
Having said that, Im surprised that no one else seems to be having this data problem on their TMobile HD2s in India. Or maybe I am the only one who has a Tmobile HD2 out here ;-)
*EDIT*
or (Oops! missed this while posting earlier)
- I may have to put in a relevant "rilphone.dll" as you rightly pointed out in the WP 7.5 partition.
*Edit - 2*
I recommend this thread on some detailed pointers on what "rilphone.dll" is all about. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481026&page=1
Important update!!!
After a couple of hectic weeks/weekends in office, I can finally heave a sigh of relief now that I have a couple of days off. Was checking the HD2 threads for Mango-related problems & BANG!!! Quite a few people have a problem on this GPRS/EDGE problem. The one common link is that all the people who are victims of this problem have their Radio Hardware version showing up as 0.0.0.0.
I have been seeing this 0.0.0.0 bit all this time & thought nothing of it thinking that this is a valid value.
Initially I thought the problem could be because of the T-Mobile radio verison not being compatible/or some sort of esoteric mojo that I cannot comprehend ;-).
But now this 0.0.0.0 is the common link (If other users have non-T-Mobile HTC HD2s). So well, what gives? Why do most people have no problems on data in Mango on HD2 & some unlucky ones like us are facing this 0.0.0.0 issue?
Any comments people?
Thanks in advance.
*Edit 1*
My current build is the 7.10.8107.79 & it is unlocked.
I had tried earlier the Yuki build as well and I still faced the same problem of not having EDGE/GPRS connectivity & radio version showed 0.0.0.0.
