Hi,
On the N900 you can set auto brightness with an actual brightness level. This way you get the best of both worlds. You set how bright you want it and based on the ambient lighting conditions the brightness is adjusted.
So you set it to say 50%. Go outside and it will increase the brightness to maximum because its trying to keep a perceived brightness of 50%.
Set it to 25% go outside and it'd probably go up to about 50% to keep the same perceived setting.
Get it? Good. Now where's the app!?

i was wondering if there was a value somewhere that i can change to lower the minimum brightness level. i dont use auto brightness. i just want to make my screen go even dimmer than currently possible. the lowest level is really not that dark. it still hurts my eyes when i look at it when i wake up in the morning. i also saw that my friends iphone's screen goes way darker than mine. thanks in advance
What am i missing regarding screen auto brightness? I keep having to manually change brightness when going from light to dark places even though i have "adapt to lighting conditions" ticked?
It feels like im wasting battery having the screen so bright at night unless i turn it down, then I have to turn it up again in the morning.. Some secret setting?

Same here, Someone said that the screen does dim but it does so slowly so you barely notice it! Hoever iam not convinced! Iam almost certain mine is not adjusting at all
For normal day light conditions i feel the auto brightness adjusts very well. Its definitely better than the s4 i had. I have the auto brightness selected and the bar at 50%. I agree for night time reading i have to manually adjust the brightness may be its not as quick to adjust in very low light conditions compared to day light
I was using CM11 on the S4 which had very good brightness control, not sure about standard. I agree during the day I don't have problems at all, and the screen is very good. It's just when I'm somewhere with low brightness and I have to turn it down, and then when I go back into day I have to turn it back up again. Pretty annoying having to change it all the time.
I will get an app to do it for me for now, but this must be some sort of bug this action couldn't be on purpose.

I find the auto brightness not very good.
Sometimes when the lighting condition does not change, it will start to increase/decrease the brightness to the level which does not suit the lighting condition.
It also have the tendency to favor lower brightness.
Thinking of trying out Lux Auto Brightness instead.

I don't know if you mean to test the sensor, but the sensor works absolutely fine (with other apps)
My auto brightness works just fine and i have mine on lowest possible setting.
Has anyone else had issues with their Adaptive Brightness not working. Toggling the setting has no effect on my display. For such an expensive phone I expect things like this to work.
Yes, it doesn't work that great for me either. I mean I can see it adjusts the brightness "somewhat". But it appears it is not nearly as dramatic as on my Galaxy S7 which would pretty much perfectly adjust the brightness.
I agree that a phone this expensive should do it correctly out of the box. Google please listen.
This is the intended function as I understood it, so I googled it and here confirms. This is not intended to operate the same as auto brightness many other phones use.
In Android L, Google's introduced a new feature called Adaptive Brightness that combines manual and auto brightness. You can manually adjust the brightness level to a state you like. Once it's set, your screen will adjust based on ambient light so it stays at the same brightness relative to the light around you. This way you can set the screen to your preferences without sticking to an absolute level.

The problem I have is that every time the phone is rebooted, adaptive brightness is set back to Off, even though it was On when the phone was restarted. Running NDE63V and not rooted.
As I understand the Gear Fit 2 Pro does not have brightness sensor to adjust the screen brightness. Is there any chance we might be able to set the bightness of the screen dependen on the time of day, e.g. in its simplest for to low brightness during night and high brightness during daylight?

Out of the box, no.
One could write an service, which would set the brightness time based. Based on a sun-rise /-set logic maybe. But i doubt it's worth the efford.

Hi guys,
I have a cheap Chinese Cube T8Plus that I use exclusively to read comics and books at night.
It works really well for that use, but has 2 very annoying problems with backlight brightness that makes it less than ideal for low light use:
- with manual brightness, the minimum brightness is very high, and even with root and a software like brightness tweak, it stays the same (I can actually increase the minimum brightness, but not decrease it).
- with auto brightness, surprisingly on low light the screen gets a lot dimmer than with manual brightness, it makes a huge difference. But here too there is a big problem; the brightness does increase whenever I the tablet is exposed to higher light, but doesn't decrease back on low light, no matter what I do.
The only way to reset it back is to fully reboot the tablet.
I tried different roms to try fixing the issue, they all have the same behavior sadly.
Of course I know there are screen filter solutions like the twilight app, which I actually use, but it's not always enough, and kills the contrast a little bit too much sometimes.
So is there any other way to force the manual brightness to go lower, that might work for me?
If not can I override the auto brightness in some way?
