I would like to ask to community to help out in a request to a developer.
Some of you many not know that the 3d Gallery app on our phones is NOT present in all 2.1+ android devices. While the Gallery itself maybe present access to Picasa is missing in some Sense based roms.
There is a fix for this being developed and is available in the market under the name, 3D Gallery. Here is where I would like you help.
At present the dev is doing nothing more then trying to make a clone of the gallery. He has just added Picasa access, but you will need to give the app your log-in details. This is not something that many users are willing to do as Picasa generally speaking is tied to the users main account.
What I would like to see is the dev give access to Picasa public galleries through username alone along with the ability for full access if both user and pass are given. Granted you will not be able to upload if user and pass are not given, but thats not really a big deal.
I think the one thing Google overlooked with the 3d Gallery was the ability to view albums you mark as favorites in your account. This app has the ability to give us this function, we just need to let the dev know that we want it.
This would be the PERFECT way to share wallpaper with each other, without the need to actually take up any storage on the phone itself.
I know Im not the only one that wants this, so please help out.
Send a copy of the following petition to the devs email address.
Email: support at flikie dot com
Copy petition below
I fully support the petition to add access to selected Picasa public albums inside of your 3D Gallery app. Access to said galleries should be entered through username alone and/or full web address.
Adding the ability to view public galleries gives us the perfect method to share wallpaper in a way that does not require using the phones storage.
Thank you for considering our request.

Reviving a pretty old thread here.
Is there anyone with the coding know-how to get this to work? I've been looking for a solution and even looked at some of the source code for the gallery files, but then quickly realized I had no business in there.
What I'd like to see is any albums that are shared with me or people who I'm "following" through Picasaweb are synced to my phone and visible in Gallery.
Any takers?

I have two ideas I would like to put out there for the awesome developers here at XDA. I have searched for these and have not really seen either.
Skydrive Sync/File Explorer
We have MS MyPhone, which has a measly 200mb of storage, but MS gives you 25gb with your Hotmail account with the skydrive. I have searched and the best thing I have found is the Live Mesh, which is only in Beta and doesn't have devices yet. It would be sweet if someone could create a sync/file explorer program with skydrive so that you could access any information from the skydrive and even better would be auto sync. Kind of creating a RAID setup with the phone and a folder on the skydrive
Single Messenger
I think HTC did a good job integrating social networks into the contacts, but it would be nice to have a tab in Manila or under the contact that would list all contact from one person on one page with an icon to indicate what communication it is. I.E. get emails/sms/aim/gtalk/ircq/facebook/twitter/myspace/etc all in one screen from that one person.
Perhaps I am asking too much, but I figure I throw it out there in hopes someone creates it. Either way, thanks to everyone here for your answers and creations!
I especialy liked the Skydrive project idea. I googled and saw that there is even an opensource .net api available at codeplex. So it would not be very difficult to start. I would love to develop this app, but I am too busy with other projects including LateReader.
They are both great ideas; I'd love to see either one get implemented.

We should be looking into developing these ideas. It would be great to do minor changes to office docos
Today I was playing with Picasa albums on the Android gallery and was curious if there are Facebook APIs that would allow the gallery to display facebook albums similar to how they display Picasa albums. (run on sentence?)
I recall reading in the past that facebook opened up APIs for displaying photo albums outside of FB, but I was not sure if anyone has thought of adding this functionaliy.
If it is not possible to add to Gallery, is there another photo program besides the built in FB app that will pull FB photos?
The new MyTouch Slide does this.
I'm not a dev or anything, so I couldn't tell you how it's done though.

It's there already in Sense. Get an Android made by HTC all you'll be able to do it. It's cool!
I'm considering (if I can find a little time) to extend the gallery app to allow it to be extended to support additional sources of networked albums. Gallery uses android data sources to get the images to and has a class which concatenates two data sources, one for local files, the other for picasa. Extending this to concatenate any number of providers and querying the android system for them would allow this to be extensible.
My goal is to add support for gallery3 (gallery.menalto.com), but facebook, flikr or any other photo service with a suitable API could be added.

Great! I'll PM you if I ever get around to working on it and have something usable for you to test.
I did look into it a little bit more and it looks like things are not abstracted quite as well as I had originally thought, which means its a lot more work.
There was an app for the G1 (at least that was how it was labelled, worked fine on my Magic) that worked on Gallery2. Since Gallery3 is a re-write, I doubt it works anymore. I think I found it in the Market.

Thank you for pointing this out!! I had no idea! I freaking love this phone! If it could give bj's and make sandwiches I think I'd marry it. ;-)
I figured out how to get high res contact photos.
First you need ICS
Have a google plus account and google plus on your phone
Create a folder on your computer called contact photos
Load all your contact pictures into this folder
Put this entire folder onto google+ picasa web albums
Have google+ picasa web albums synced to your phone with the google+ app
You should see in gallery an album called contact photos
Manually link all of your contacts to these photos
Now all of your contacts have high res photos! Its kind of time consuming but its finally a work around the stupid google blurry pictures. I have spent countless time googling a work around. I hope this helps everyone out!
They are working on it as we speak. Thanks for the feedback and suggestion, but personally I think I'll wait until I can manager higher resolution photos directly from GMail Contacts. Saves any future hassles
i hope they fix this!!! i hate low res contact pics.
It's not exactly a fix... but I've gotten many of my contact pictures in high res through Facebook and HaxSync. As long as you have them as a Facebook friend, you can at least see their face clearly with this
The only problem is, if you have to blast your contacts storage or switch phones for any reason, the pictures that get synced back down from Google are the low res versions, then you have to manually re-do the photos all over again. It's disappointing that Google has taken so long to fix what seems like a relatively simple issue.
The other suggestion from Google was to sync your G+ contacts to your phone, but most of the people I contact via text or phone aren't actually on G+, and most of the people I have as contacts in G+ I don't communicate with outside of professional social networks.

Manually choosing pictures for each contact is not a fix!
I have put together a tiny app that syncs the photos on the phone to picasa web thus preserving its quality. Of course you need to have choosen a high resolution photo on your phone.
This being probably my first post, I can't include a link so have a search of it on Google Play and if you found it useful, post the link yourself.
Search for "Contact Photo Sync" on Google Play (remember to include the double quote marks in your search).
I've also released the code under GPLv3. To get the code, search "contactphotosync" in github.
Hope this helps some of you
That is supercool!

^ THIS
THAT APP did a good job for ICS AOSP user,
which google failed to provide.. :good:
i personaly dont like another app solution,
which syncing it with FB photo.. even though it's HD.
FB photo profile sync just sucks big time..
i simply don't want my friends picture on my contact phone is just like:
Cat, Guitar, Car or natural scenery,
or maybe his / her picture but way too far from camera..
which s/he set as profile picture on FB.
that app really good, suits my need, which i can't found for months..

Hello everyone, new here at XDA forums and just trying to get some feedback from the community on a project I have been working on. This application is not done, but I do think that *most* of the main features are in place and its a good time to get some feedback on the UI and maybe more importantly the overall idea behind the application. Basically this app will connect anyone who is connected to the same wifi network. I think this will be cool in large places that share one wifi network, like a college campus, large office buildings, etc.. When you are connected, the app calls it a "zone", so, when you are in a zone with other users, you can live chat with any other user in the zone, and there is also a public board where any user can make posts (images & text). When you make a post, you are able to see how many views that your post has gotten, and exactly who has viewed the post, which is something people may like, I want you guys to be the judge of this though. Please, play around with it, send me a chat message in the app if you'd like, my name is "Dylan Rose", you will be able to just click my name and send a message.
Something you may be wondering is, if this app only lets users interact when they are connected to the same wifi network, how are we going to interact right now? Good question. I have the app set up in debug mode right now so the system thinks that any user who signs in is in one zone called "Test - Zone", so if you see that in your toolbar after you sign in, you're in the right place! :good:
Overall, let me know in your experience, will people want to use this app? I see it being used in larger areas like college campuses where lots of people are connected to the same network, but I want you guys to be the judge of that, so let me know!
Link to the APK: wikisend.com/download/519920/app-debug.apk
Cant thank you guys enough for trying this out and leaving me with some feedback!
This application does use a Google API to allow you to sign in with any google account. All I actually use is
Display Name
Profile Photo
User ID
GCM-ID (To send push notifications, when you get a chat message)
This application also uses the persmissions
INTERNET
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
GET_ACCOUNTS
USE_CREDENTIALS (credentials actually used described above)
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Used to store photos when you take a photo in-app)
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (used to grab a photo that you would like to include in a post)
CAMERA (Used to take a photo in-app that you would like to include in your post)
RECEIVE (Receive GCM push notifications)
C2D_MESSAGE (Receive GCM Push notifications)
Tried to post some screenshots but since I'm a newer user here at this forum I was not allowed to post outside links!
I might try it
This sounds like something that would be fun for a business or school environment. My question: what do the following permissions do:
find accounts on the device
use accounts on the device
I'm concerned of course that this app which isn't vetted yet by anyone, might be doing something I don't want it to do.

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to check out my description. As for the accounts permissions that this application uses: The app lets users sign in via google account. In order to use googles sign-in API, I did need to use these permission in my manifest. The find accounts is used when you first click the login button, a dialog of the google accounts that you have linked to your device show up, and you choose which one you would like to sign in to the app with. The use accounts is for allowing my application to know some general data about the account that you sign in with, these include your Display name, Account photo, and your user id.
Please let me know if you have any further concerns, and I look forward to hearing what you think of the app!
Thanks again,
-Dylan R.
Hello, I'm looking for an app to upload photos (preferably automatically), but also allow others to upload to the same album. Ideally, the shared album would show up in their account as well so they don't have to go looking for it each time.
Facebook allows this, but I don't want to share on fb, I just want to share with a couple people. I really like Google photos, but the multiple contributor "feauture" is atrocious. It's not even a feature, it's more of a work around unless I'm missing something.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
