Hi, i am new to rooting but figured everything out pretty easyily...i mistakenly went in to my system/app and DELETED all the bloatware(or what i thought was bloatware) before reading that i should re-name everything and there was conversations.apk. the whole problem is that i cant recieve or send mms's now through handcent and its supposedly because i deleted conversations.apk. i found some fourms on androidfourms.com about this problem and how to solve it but if was for droid x, well i went to the dump file(not knowing it was for 2.1) and got conversations.apk and it installed and i moved it to system/app and set up permissions and no application started or anything, Just took me back to home screen(i figured because it was for droid x) and my mms started working again in handcent. Well today its not working anymore because i found the dump file for the droid 2 and the problem is that i download the .apk and no matter where it is on the phone either in sd card or where ever it brings it up and it will NOT install. I tried changing locations, permissions, and nothing. I read that i cant even flash back to stock sbf and have everything back or is that when you do a factory reset? I need help because ive been getting really frustrated and maybe i just dont know what im doing but id really rather not flash back to new but if i have to then thats fine with me. Also i read that i can use adb (which i do have experience with since i used that to root my phone with so if i have to, i use it..not total noob lol) and push the file to a directory such as system/app and maybe that would work...idk... PLEASE HELP.
Sorry for such a long story... thanks for any help

Hey. Yeah... I think I was in the same boat with you when I deleted the 3G Wifi Hotspot and couldn't update.
I think it is time to try the .sbf method. I've been looking for someone to go through the tutorial and making sure everything is there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770224
Give that a go and tell me how it is. Especially if 12a works! If 12a works, you won't have to factory reset your phone! You can just flash an you'll have everything back.
Before flashing the .sbf I'd go to the Droid 2 system dump and make sure you have all the applications on your Droid so you don't get hosed on reset.
Then when your phone is reset/working just go back and rename them instead of deleting and you're safe when VZ puts out updates.
Okay, thanks. I am at work so i will have to get home later tonight and steal the computer from my fiancee and try this out..i am assuming that if i flash the sbf it will lose root? Right?

Could you explain this? Would you have to put the files from the system dump and adb push them back onto the phone in order to reflash the sbf. I just thought you could straight flash it and get everything back in place.
You can do the sbf at any time. Factory reset needs the apps, not the sbf.
Oh okay so i dont need to push any apps..only if i wanted to do a factory reset right now or something?...flashing the sbf will restore all apps and everything to new again correct? Then do a factory reset. Also this will unroot right?
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Yes sir. But it is easy to root again. 2.2.20 is rootable using the same method!

I guess I just read wrong. I thought if you didn't have all of the stock apps then it would be stuck in a boot loop. (I've only had my phone for a month and it's my first Android phone.) I got the flashing and the factory reset mixed up, thanks darkonion and karnovaran.
Well I got the bomb jpg and what not and flashed back with no problems and everything is working now. Unable to root because the ./rage or whatever "app" took too long this morning before work so ill have to root tonight. Thanks for your help guys and I now have some wisdom to share with others about flashing sbf's and re-rooting. Btw, this website/app on my phone is AWESOME lol.

If I were you I'd SBF back to 2.2 then download the Full SBF 2.3.2 and flash it. At least that is what I did.
Alright, maybe a stupid question, but do I have to root and go back to factory settings in order to flash this?
I have Fission 1.2.1 installed right now, do I have to go back to install this? Will I lose all data / saved stuff?

I read that the update isn't working because I deleted the apps and what not. So if I sbf back to 2.2 without the original apps in the system will it do what it did before when it failed when trying to update to 2.3.2?

I couldn't get mine to SBF back to 2.2 so I did a stock recovery and wiped data/factory reset and wiped cache. Then I tried to SBF 2.2 and it worked so I went on and flashed 2.3.2

Nothing is different. You can root the same way as before. Check on this section and there are threads on how to root.

Hey all. When the 2.3.2 update was released, my Droid 2 was trying to automatically download and update but it failed the update every time. Maybe because I'm rooted and I had removed several of the B.S. apps I didn't want. So I downloaded the full SBF and used RSD Lite to update it. Everything went smoothly. Now I have an issue where several times a day I'll get a toast entitled "Info: Download of update failed." If I go to settings > about phone > system updates I get a toast that says "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete" followed by the download failed notification.
It seems like the phone is still trying to download the update even though I already have it. Any idea how to stop the automatic download? I already tried rebooting the phone with no luck. Any suggestions are appreciated!

My only suggestion is that your phone still wants to update. If you were to wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset I would think the problem would be gone.
You can Flash straight to this SBF. I started playing with roms after I got the update and basicly bricked my phone I was at the M screen or a boot loop just after and just flashed straight to 2.3.2 and it worked fine.

Quick ? for an expert as I have the Dinc and my GF just got the Droid 2. Since rooting is totally different I want to confirm things so I don't bork hers. She just got it so it has the newest update already and I have it rooted and bootstrap recovery loaded on it but to get it deoxeded to I just use this from MDW? Droid 2 (2.3.20) Deodexed Update.zip format.

Help
I don't know if I need to post this here or not. I somehow messed up my phone. I didn't use any sbf and or rsd lite before i rooted my phone. But I was upgrading a rom from rubix 1.8.6 to the 1.8.9 and messed it up. It was stuck at M icon forever then i started messing around with the bootloader and reading these boards. I tried flashing the sbf 2.2 and all that stuff, and couldn't get it out of boot loader. I then tried the 2.3 sbf and now it says low battery, corrupt file..... please help on how i can fix this. I am a noob when it comes to this and any help would greatly be appreciated.

You need to get a charged battery and then you can try flashing the 2.3.2 SBF again(Droid 2 only). The phone won't charge unless your phone has software on it so you need to find somebody with another D2 or a D1 or an external battery charger to get a battery with full or near full power. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088 Read through this tutorial even if you are flashing in windows. It's got everything you need to know about SBF flashing (more for linux but the fixes at the bottom are for anytime you flash an SBF).
If you mess up an install it's always better to try and get into clockwork because unless you really messed up the install you can just get back in to clockwork and re-install and you should be fine. The best way to get into clockwork is to:
1.Shut off phone(battery pull if you need to and wait about 15 seconds so that it doesn't just boot up again).
2.(with phone completely off) plug the phone into the wall charger.
3.Now turn on your phone. (if you get the battery charge screen just press power again)
4.(wait a bit) Now you should be in Clockwork recovery.(if that didn't work try it a few more times.)
I was running CM7 for awhile. Decided I wanted to go back to stock..
I tried the FLASH exe. My phone booted, it activates and logs in. but if i try to make a call or send a text. nothing happens.
calls give me an error 16..
i tried the odin method aswell.
same issue.
any suggestions?? anyone?
please
cant even reflash cm7 smh...
went to sprint today and had them replace my phone.

I backed up my efs and wimax before i originally flashed CM7 but i had no clue how to re apply it and I wasnt about to tell the rep that.
has anyone honestly successfully put their phone back into a stock working state??
Im afraid to root again.... stock is so plain tho. lol

My theory is that you flashed the stock ROM from the wrong device. But we will never know if that is correct or not.
I put my phone back to stock all the time. Many people do. There's not problem with it. Your problem was caused by some mis-step. Sorry I was not able to help you solve it fast enough!
ya I've actually went back to stock from being rooted it was pretty easy ..I just used one of the tutorials on the nexus s development

the first method I had used was the SIMPLEDL720.exe? IM not sure the exact name but I used that to try and flash it back..
it broke at that point. Couldnt make calls or send texts.. everything else worked. 4G, 3G, Internet, Market..
i tried rerooting and flashing CM7 again.. still the same issues.
Im assuming its that .exe file that killed the phone.
perhaps I shoulda tried odin first :/

No, there is no need to get so complicated. Just flash stock ROM through ClockworkMod Recovery, just like you would flash any other ROM.
my objective was to return to complete stock.
like if u had an epic and you used ODIN, it would eliminate root and cwm and return the phone to its original state..
if i wanted to flash another rom I would have done so lol...
wasnt what i was trying to do at the time.
ODIN works perfectly for me all the time, maybe you were trying to load the wrong data for your device? Id be happy to post the ODIN and the associated files to get you back to out-of-box condition, in case you have to in the future.
**Assuming your device came out-of-box with GRH78?
Ok so I got a little flash happy today and during the course of it I messed up my IMEI to all symbols. I went and reflashed everything about 10 times and tried to restore my efs backup from my card.
I guess that my efs backup became messed up because none of the times has it fixed my IMEI like it has in the past. I have another efs backup on the sd card and I remember reading somewhere that I can manually push the files.
I just cannot figure out what to push to restore the IMEI back to normal. I have pushed the EFS backup tar and got data back but with my IMEI still all symbols.
Can anyone tell me what files to push? I would greatly appreciate it
Have you flashed the efs_restore zip? I think there is a method posted in FB's unlocker thread.
Yes I have tried flashing the efs_restore zip so many times. I have no idea what happened on why it is not working. I have tried every MTD rom to date and I have always used the restore without an issue.... until today, when everything just stopped working. I do not get any errors during the restore zip and it appears it works until I boot my phone and check my IMEI
Maybe you just need to go back to kj6 via heimdall.
If you have a backup if your efs (the efs folder itself) you can just copy to the root directory and overwrite the corrupted one then reboot. It's the easiest way to fix it if you have a copy if the folder

You didn't try going back to stock yet? Tisk tisk. Do that. Check that your signal/IMEI works on a stock rom, then flash AOKP from that, then flash CM9 or MIUIv4 after that. AOKP has the updater.sh fix that allows you to flash directly from BML so do that first.
Lol I was going to but I was at work when it happened. Thats what i did when i got home. I knew I could go back to stock but I knew I had read a way to do it without going back so I really was more curious that I could not figure it out. Going back was really painless and fixed the issue.
I was more looking for the info posted above on how to do so manually. Thanks for the info... now I know for the future ha. I will give out thanks and add solved to thread title when I get to a computer. Thanks everyone

Hi I had the same issue before and what I did was manually push the efs folder from my sd and then powered off my device. Then I took the battery out and held the power bottom with battery out for 10 sec to drain remaining charge on the motherboard. Then popped the battery back in powered it up and walaaa my imei came back try it won't hurt

Okay, so here's a long story short. I flashed AT&T ICS leak #2 when I first got my replacement due to a brick. I ran SCV7 for a week or so and decided to try out CM10. I restored my backup of stock/rooted backup. Uninstalled highjacks, packages and app (bootmenu) itself. I then installed our OG A2 bootstrap, installed fine, installed CM10, played around with it for awhile. Realized I didnt reinstall the OG A2 Bootstrap so went ahead and did that. (without booting into recovery yet) I then later in the day decided to REBOOT my phone to only find me stuck on the CM10 boot animation. I battery pulled, plugged in to see if any recovery would show, none, just the battery charge percentage. I then battery pulled again, got into stock recovery, tried a data and cache wipe to no effect. My problem is, there is NO FXZ for the AT&T leak #2, I have no recovery besides stock and the only thing I can do is take my 32GB SD card out and add/delete files/everything. I saddly did not make a copy of the system.img but was wondering if anyone else possibly did? This would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck with a soft brick until then or a new FXZ to work with AT&T leak #2. Any suggestions or help is very much appreciated. Thanks all for reading and I'm praying for a miracle in my phone right about now lol!

Hey, and sort of welcome back...
But I hate to be the bearer of bad, bad news... you have a softbrick, and there is NOTHING you can do.
Next time, read everything in an OP... LOL, look who I am telling this to....
The CM10 installs come with their own CWM built in, and flashing bootstrap is what bootlooped you, so after you get another warranty replacement (yes, you HAVE to do this), I would install leak #1 ONLY, then flash cm10 with bootstrap, then do not reinstall any boot hijacks or CWM "like" recovery (bootmenu), because all you have to do it hit the vol down button right as you see the blue led flash during the M dual core logo.
Or enter the CM10 recovery menu and so on and so forth.
This is how I got out of a cm10 boot-loop.
I just restored from bootmenu backup via adb.

I will get with alteredlikeness and see if we can possibly think of something together on this one. The first thought would be to try an mearet/searet fxz for 2.3.6 since they can fxz back with out any mods to thier 2.3.6 or 2.3.5 fxz from thier ICS leaks, but I am thinking that will still brick you, but interested to see anyhow.
So I will see if alteredlikeness and I can think of some other way to try. He or I will PM you either way.

I tried to update my A2 this morning and I got the update failed. I was searching around ancient looked at the last-log file in mt file explorer. It said there was no activity. I am rooted obviously, I didn't bootstrap, I have busybox. I didn't debloat anything because I didn't want to brick the phone. Do I need to in root and factory reset or is there something that the big brains here can suggest.

There is a log file that is produced while the update runs. Check /cache/recovery/last_log. See post for all of the info. Please review and/or post the log file.
So now I have no operation system on my phone. I dont know what happened. after the first fail, I did a lottle more research and i saw a post from apex (i think it was apex at least) saying that someone else was having the same problem as I was. They needed to delete all of their root apps and clear the data that they left behind. So thats what I did and after that I soft bricked. The phone wouldnt do anything. Right now all i get is the motorola logo and then a black screen. I can still get into recovery and try to wipe and restore, but with nothing to restore nothing happens. I need to get everything to RSD back to 2.3.5 so that i can ota to 2.3.6 and then to 4.0. Can someone point me to those threads where there is a good file to download to get back up and running. PLEASE and THANKS.
