Hi All,
Any one got some good turorials on theme development for android?
Specifically would like to start developing my own home screen, with my own unlock slider.
I have played with developing a few small apps for fun but have now reached a confidence level where I recon I can do more.

Until the API for widgets is released there is n.o practical way of developing widgets for Android.

Your Custom Scenes and Suggestions

Hi!
I've finally gotten my Hero fully working on Sprint, so now I can finally get full usage out of this awesome phone!
I've been trying out different ROMs and so far I'm sticking between Modaco and Fresh's 1.5 ROMs. (I tried a few of the 2.1 builds and they're awesome but I need my camera to work!)
Anyhow, I'm new to Android and Widgets and Scenes and all this, and I'm wondering what my fellow Heroes are doing to get the most out of their phones.
How do you guys organize your 7 pages? Does anyone have their Scene customized perfectly for their use? I'd love to see some screenshots of what you consider to be your perfect and most efficient setups. I'm looking for ideas on the best ways to place my shortcuts and widgets, and if anyone can recommend some aftermarket widgets, I'd love to hear about it!
Link to some info about Android Apps
Just thought I'd post a link to android forums, looks like a great place to get started looking for tested and interesting apps for Android!

[Q] [REQUEST] Porting App, "Puppet Animation" iOS to Android?

Hi guys I wondered if one of the many skilled users here could make a version of the app
Puppet Animation by Daisuke Nogami
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/puppet-animation/id306405793?mt=8
Because from the looks of things, I don't think he's going to make a version for Android. I'd contact him but so far I haven't found his email.
Thanks!

[Q] Building a Plain text Launcher (Terminal/Command prompt Style)

Hi all, I'm newly registered here and I've found only 1 thread concerning this.
My question is this: How hard would it be to build a Launcher that doesn't use graphics, only text. I ask this because I've never programmed for android, but I have some experience in actionscript and basic. It's not very much tho, and I've tried many different programming languages over the years, mostly basic stuff in school (php, java, c++, javascript).
I always liked the look of CWM recovery on my Galaxy 3. It's really crisp and I wondered if I could make a launcher myself that would emulate that look and feel.
I also liked how more of the screen could be used since you could use vol+/- keys for navigation, and not just your touchscreen. That means smaller fonts and more options on screen at one time.
Is it possible for me, as a total beginner, to build a really simple launcher that I could later expand with widgets etc?
I guess this won't get any replies because it sinks down so fast...
Where should I post this, I seem to be getting no answers...

8-bit canvas color cycling live wallpaper

Just an idea for some of the more creative people out there, I know this wont get a lot of people interested but its an easy enough project (i think) as most of the work is already done.

used to do alot of cool stuff with retro styled games and ideas, but have since decided to close up and open source it all.

My idea was something like a live wallpaper using the canvas cycle demo. i.e.

Could be as simple as choosing a specific scene, or even something more clever like choose a base scene and it changes depending the time of day and the weather.
Im an engineer and programming in java isn't exactly my forte, just giving an idea out to the awesome creative minds here on xda.
Thanks.
