1.adb reboot download
2. extract odin for epic, open odin3.exe
3. put the modem.tar as phone
4. start
thanks to all of the tester at #sdx-developers!

I'm going to save people grief, this kernel doesn't give you a signal and doesn't give you root. It's been tested by a couple people already.
Also... it's not EXPEREMENTAL, it's EXPERIMENTAL

I have a kernel I am working on everything works right now except root will fix that tonight.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Darkys Rom problem

Hi all,
I was attempting to install Darkys Extreme Edition on my brother SGS (running Froyo 2.2.1) last night and had a number of issues, i am an experienced techy and familiar with flashing etc but i am still new to Android.
I managed to flash the Speedrom kernel onto his phone using Odin, i rooted with "super one click root tool" and installed Clockwork Rom Manager from the marketplace,i then dropped the "Darkys rom Extreme Edition v9.1.zip" onto the root of the SD card and entered recovery using the button combo and received the "could not verify whole-file signature" installation aborted, the file had not been opened as i read this will break the signature but instead i downloaded the rom again from a different source and had the same problem.
I then attempted the same process by asking CWM to install the rom on the SD card, same problem and then attempted it again by entering recovery through CWM and again the same thing happened. I did some searching online and managed to find out that he needs recovery 2e (he currently has recovery 3e)
So i figured it would be simple enough - download and flash eclair 2.1 through the phone, however when i checked his "about phone" i find i9000JPW and cant for the life of me find ANY reference or firmware online for "JPW"
So with that i have the following questions - can the experienced users here spot something i am doing wrong?
and
would i be able to achieve the recovery process by flashing ANY stock, Eclair 2.1 ROM through the phone (like JPY for instance) and then be able to install Darkys Rom?
I am grateful to anyone that could shed some light on this for me, i am not currently with the phone but if i can get some solid info i can go over tomorrow and have another crack at it, ive Googled this a lot and cannot find a solid enough answer as to whether the above suggestion will help or hinder in this case.
Cheers to all
Not sure if this helps as i am not much of a wiz but i think darky rom needs the darky app from the market to tell which modem and kernel to install.
Not sure if that's actually the problem but worth a try.
Stock recovery changed from 2e to 3e from eclair to froyo which is why cwm is having problems. I had the same problem with a vibrant that had been updated to 2.2. I flashed a TW Bionix ROM and soft bricked the phone. Find the right pit and tar files and Odin back to 2.1 and you should be fine. Check out Shorty's locker on Team Whiskey. He has lots of stuff in storage.

Thanks guys ill be sure to give this a go, gongshow how will i know which tar and PIT files to use? is there a repository somewhere where i can get them for JPW? or can i use any eclair 2.1 rom (and the tar/pit files) and flash that using Odin?
Download hardcores latest speedmod kernel and flash via Odin. That's all you need to get recovery 2e. Then install your favorite rom and enjoy.

Ah, this sounds like what i was looking for, thank you! i'll download that ROM and if i can get over there tonight ill attempt it tonight instead of waiting until tomorrow, ill go look up a tutorial for flashing roms in Odin too, since i have so far only flashed a kernel with it, thanks for all the help guys i really appreciate it, especially since i'm hoping to get an Android phone myself soon and i wont be able to leave it alone til its all custom!
Ok, all done! last night i flashed Darkys Resurrection 9.2 using Odin on my brothers SGS, downloaded Darkys configurator from the market and made any necessary changes and installed the speedmod kernel k13c total time taken from start to finish: 30mins
everything is running smoothly and exactly as he wanted it, a huge thanks to all who contributed help to this post in particluar:
ehtoeh - for putting me onto the K13c speedmod kernel and
aerobomb - for putting me onto the idea of flashing the Resurrection rom to lower recovery to 2e and then flashing Darkys 2.3 final.
You guys are awesome and i could not of done this without you, when i eventually make the move to Android ill be back and hopefully ill be able to help you guys out!
No worries bud. Hope your brother enjoys his phone. What quadrant scores did you get with darkys 9.3? I hit 1499.
Btw, you could have done it all in under 10 minutes. Speedmod k13c has CWM built in and gives you 2e recovery. Then just flash 9.3 directly. No need to go from 9.2 to 9.3 unless you really like flashing

Man you're fast. I just got the leak, didn't even have time to uncompress it.
Excellent. So if we flash the stock kernel and get video working again, what are we losing in the process? Sorry if this is a noobish question, I'm just now switching from galnet MIUI.
Shouldnt lose anything...and you will keep root also...

You gain video and hdmi back. You may have to make a slight change to one of the void files if you lose access to your CD card.
I see. Thank you for the help! I was told about this file before, but when I tried editing it last time I messed it up... don't you edit the last value to a different number or something? Do you know what number that is? Thank you guys for the help, I really do appreciate it, what with all these awesome leaks. :]

You will also lose your voodoo filesystem optimizations, init scripting support and the charginghacks/undervolt capabilities (if you like Entropy's kernel).
Well I enjoyed it for 5 minutes before going back to cm7 with thunder script but I still appericate the upload as something different always looking for my next rom fix.

If you have flashed the stock kernel and want external SD: In vold.fstab, in the line that starts with dev_mount sdcard1, change from mmc2 to mmc1
I feel pretty dumb right now. I flashed the leak and then uses sgs kernel flasher to flash the stock kernel and my phone is now stuck at the Samsung splash screen upon reboot. I let it sit there for about 10 minutes. Now, I can't even get back to recovery mode. Could someone provide some advice?

Don't you have to convert you file system back before flashing the stock rom?
Yes, I unpacked the zimage file from the .rar and sgs kernel flasher rebooted the phone automatically after applying it.

Did you disable voodoo lagfix in recovery before flashing the stock kernel? Not doing that can cause issues, if I'm understanding this correctly.
You dont have to disable voodoo....all i did was flash thru sgs and it booted up fine...if you are stuck however then disabling voodoo might fix your problem

No, I don't believe I had any lagfixes.
I was running stock froyo with only root and cwm installed
I downloaded the .zip for the leak
booted into recovery and wiped data/cache/dalvik
flashed the leak
phone booted up fine
installed sgs kernel flasher from the market
extracted zimage file from the .rar in the op
used sgs kernel flasher to flash the kernel
phone rebooted and now stuck at samsung screen
I've pulled the battery and then tried to reenter recovery mode, but no dice
I am going to try unbrick through download mode and heimdal
Ok..well i didnt know you were coming from froyo...i dont know how flashing this from froyo would work since i cant even remember when i ran froyo last. I came from my catyrom....might need to be on gingerbread with gingerbread bootloaders ...

[q] infuse won't show up on odin

Hey. So i have a few problems but this is the main one. I have looked all over but can't figure it out. I'm running CM10 on my Infuse. I've wanted to update it to the newest releases AND flash the touch-based recovery. My problem is that i have a distorted recovery. Its ALL rainbows. I can't see anything. So i read up and learned that i can try flashing GB bootloaders. my only problem is that when i put my infuse into download mode and open odin, nothing shows up. i have it opened in admin and have the drivers installed.
If you have any idea how to fix the rainbows issue, then i dont really need help with the bootloaders or odin. otherwise, PLEASE HELP ME! thank you in advanced
Use heimdal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Works similar to Odin...put in download mode, then click flash...but leave heimdal open when done...do not close, once your phone reboots put your phone back to download mode, click the box for flash bootloaders on heimdal and then flash again
Also...touch recovery (aka twrp) does not work with the latest cm10 build...I'm working on a fix though...

You've tried different USB cords/ports with odin?
How about manually in installing drivers, then reinstalling then rebooting your computer then trying?
Also have you ever used heimdal? If you use heimdal Odin will not work on that USB port that heimdal was used on

I'm new to this and need help using Odin. Is there a step by step video so I don't brick my phone? I'm trying to get the newest jb leak. I'm good up until I have to actually have to flash the Rom in Odin. I don't know what I'm supposed to do.. can anyone help me or walk me thru.
It's very easy. I was apprehensive too. Basically all you do is download drivers for this phone, download Odin and download your tar file. In Odin select pda, select your downloaded tar file, wait for the computer to analyze the tar file and show a com port, connect your phone and hit start. Openyoureyes has a sticky in the development thread that clearly details how to do all of this. Follow the steps and make sure you read all the details and you'll be fine.
Here's the thread.

If you just want to flash the ROM then use Odin, but if you want to root definitely go this way: http://droidmodderx.com/galaxys3/?page_id=159 after that download goomanager(twrp) or ez-recovery(CWM recovery) from the play store for a recovery. Then flashing after that is a piece of cake.

A tar file is the type of file you flash in Odin. You download the tar file on your computer..... Save it to the desktop or whatever is obvious and easy to find. In Odin select pda and browse for the file you just downloaded. I suggest you keep reading about this for a while before you try it.

The .tar file is the JB leak you downloaded. Its format is .tar so Odin can recognize it and flash it to your phone. If you were in the thread where the newest VZW JB leak was, it should be download #6, #7, or #8 depending on what you wanted to do. Suppose you only wanted a stock experience. You'd download #8. It comes in a .tar format so you can put it directly into Odin for flashing.
When you click on PDA, Windows Explorer should come up. Here, navigate to the directory where you downloaded the .tar (the ROM) and double click it. Now, next to PDA in Odin, it should show the name of the ROM.
ONLY do the PDA method with this JB leak. Don't (and I mean DON'T) touch Bootloader, Phone, or CSC in Odin. Only PDA.
This JB leak will NOT get rid of any of your data, applications, SD card, etc. Everything stays on your phone, just like an OTA.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
Ok, thank you. Successfully flashed! Now I'd like to know how I root my phone and get gapps and what not

[CWM] [RECOVERY] CLOCKWORKMOD V 6.0.3.2 for GT-S7500L

I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone if you flash this file to your phone.
Updated to Cwmod recovery version 6.0.3.2 for GT-S500L
I recommend you use heimdall to flash it.
I don't recommend to use odin, but I packaged it to be flashable with odin anyway . It seems some people have problems with odin YMMV.
I recommend to use heimdall
In the attachments is the original recovery.img so you can revert to stock if you want.
Bugs:
Power button is the only one that works to select current option
Requirements:
Linux:
p7zip
heimdall
Windows:
7-zip
heimdall or odin
How to install :
Using heimdall:
Linux:
Unpack it
1)7z e cwmod-GT-S7500L.zip
2)7z e cwmod-GT-S7500L.tar.md5 ; you will get file recovery.img
You could also use unzip then rename to just .tar then extract recovery.img using tar
Flash it
1) put phone in download mode
2) connect phone to pc
3) heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img or heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img
Windows :
1)unpack zip file to get tar.md5 file then again to get recovery.img
2) put phone in download mode
3) connect phone to pc
I guess is the same command in command line
4) heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img
Using Odin: (You should be using heimdall)
Unpack zip file to get cwmod-GT-S7500L.tar.md5
1) Put phone in download mode
2) Run Odin, connect the phone to PC
3) Click on 'PDA' and choose the 'cwmod-GT-S7500L.tar.md5' file
4) Press the Start Button, wait for reboot.

Try something else then, 3 times is a lot, install heimdall go to http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ scroll down a bit and youll see the download links then try to flash recovery.img with it.

Why would you want to do that, when you can use Heimdall or Odin?

I don't trust Odin that much (the author himself agrees with it here), and I have never used Heimdall, even when I'm Linux user. I just felt safer by copying the CWM file to the phone and using stock recovery to apply the update.
By the way, my base band version is S7500LVJLA5, I'm still in total stock (no custom CWM, no custom ROM). Do you think it could work on mine?
And what Heimdall version should I use? It's said 1.3.2 broke compatibility...

Try with 1.3.1, binaries are already created and is what the dev recommends.

I'm interested, what's this fix_reboot.sh? Could you paste its contents here?

While I've never had a problem with Odin in the last 4 years, you make an interesting point.
I'll give Heimdall a try sometime in the future.
I know this is a bit offtopic, by have you, Elruki or Corsario_Negro, tried TheWhisp's CM 10 or 10.1?
