Am I the only one who's noticed that the headset controls don't work for pausing/playing or really doing anything with music at all? No matter what headset I try, the remote control just jumps straight to the recent calls list and attempts to call the last person I dialed..what gives? Is this unique to me or is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know of an in-ear canal headset that has working music remote controls?
try using a different music player from market such as cubed ^3 or mixzing, then go into the setting for that music player and make sure use headphone controls is activated
I just tried both of those music apps, and while I HAVE to thank you for showing me mixzing (nice improvement over the stock android app), the headset controls STILL do the same thing! I unchecked and rechecked the settings and no matter what, the phone always defaults to opening the recent calls list instead of pausing/playing/skipping..
Is there anyone else out there having this issue with their Epic? Perhaps I got a defective unit?
glad u liked mixzing, cubed in my opinion is even sicker. I get my epic tomorrow so ill check and let u know how it goes
Thanks for your help Ravizzle - I'm anxiously awaiting your results! I tried cubed, but I found the cube interface a little too flashy and unintuitive - I did only give it a single glance over and headset check, so perhaps I need to give it a bit more time next time
Got my epic today, sadly it didnt work for me either with the included wired headset. My stereo bluetooth is charging so ill try that out and see, but so far its disappointing that headphone controls dont work, perhaps the email the devs for mixzing and cubed and maybe they need to add support for epic still cuz its new.
Well I guess it's good news mine's not defective..but still pretty freking annoying. I'm surprised I don't hear many people complaining about this..I've tried a bluetooth headset and the controls do appear to work, but I hate the look of wearing a BT headset - I feel sort of..well I wont go in to that. Regardless, I realize there are devices like the the Jabra Clipper which would make me feel slightly less..you know. Anyone have any preferences on devices like these?
I use the Motorola Rokkers Bluetooth. They don't look silly cause it's on both ears unlike those Jawbreaker things. They look very sporty and I use them for walking and bicycle riding. The sound is HD and the controls all work. I am using 3 cube music.
I noticed that I can't answer a call (unlike my Evo and Moment) when using with the Epic. That sucks, but all the music controls work fine and the sound is incredible. My Rokkers are a year or so old - maybe I'll try the newer ones to see if I get the phone controls back.

I too am surprised at the lack of post about the BT problems. I have no handsfree control on the epic. For one that paid full retail for the phone I pretty POed about it. (Plus no spell checker in email, can't download attachments via exchange) I smell a 30day return coming if things don't improve.
I use the lg hbs 200 bluetooth stereo headset and i like them a lot. They are lightweight and they fold up nicely. U can get em off amazon. heres the amazon link http://www.amazon.com/LG-SGBS0001606-Bluetooth-Headset-HBS-200/dp/B001KHVRJU
Well, I just ended up getting a Jabra Clipper. Amazon and Verizon stores both sell them, and it serves my needs well. You can use the headphones of your choice (though it comes with an OK pair), and all remote functions work. I like it so far (especially since I don't look like a tool with a big flashing blue light around my neck).
Highly suggested!

I bought this, too; I had the older dogtag mini-usb model, but the audio out had broken... Verizon has it with free overnight shipping for ~$5 cheaper than Amazon right now.
I ran into a problem, though -- I couldn't get it working with my music player. No play/pause, no next/prev. Someone else suggested TuneWiki, so I installed that and it actually works great, but it's something to be aware of if you're considering this.
(Also, in place of dedicated next and prev buttons, you have to hold the vol-up and vol-down for a second or so, but but it works pretty okay. I wish the volume buttons on the phone worked like that, too. )
For those of you wondering why- It's because samsung puts there polarity in different order than most companies do. When people make headphones they generally make them to the polarity of apple's.
This is also why bluetooth ones work fine, and wired don't.
Do you guys hear buzzing when you use headphones with a mic?

As we all know by now, the headphone jack on the N1 is a 4 conductor jack capable of play/pause and forward/reverse controls.
Unfortantely this causes problems for many sets of headphones with the N1. Songs often start all on their own, skip, pause, etc just by moving the device which is really annoying. This does not happen to all regular headphones, just most.
This is very annoying because it almost limits you to use the stock headphones which are big and bulky.
Also I found it very annoying to have to turn the screen on, unlock the device, scroll to MixZing lite, then change a song. I put up with the stock headphones because all I had to do was hit a button.
So my question to everyone, where can we all find some good 4 conductor headphones? I went to best buy, frys, and a couple other places and left with nothing, very disappointing. It would be nice if they had a mic, but this isn't a deal breaker for me right now.
I really do not mind paying $50 to $70 (maybe more if they are awesome) if i can get great quailty headphones which have the 4 conductor controls.
Of course if I have to go bluetooth that goes up a little bit, but 've yet to find great bluetooth headphons. I used to have Sony Ericsson HBH-DS205 which I loved but one day they quit charging .
Also with bluetooth its just another thing to run down your N1's battery, and since I'm always on the internet, listening to music, and playing a game this isnt ideal for me, and I'm sure it isn't for most people.
Does anyone know of a great pair? Please post!
I've got a pair of Klipsch Image S4i that ran me ~$100 which sound awesome. It has an inline remote with 3 buttons for volume up, play/pause, and volume down. The volume up and down buttons don't work but I only really cared about the play/pause button. One press play/pauses, two presses skips to the next track. Using the volume up/down on the side of the N1 is easy enough. It also has a built in mic so I can take calls without getting my phone out.
I also tried out the Motorola S9-HD bluetooth headphones for awhile. While everything worked fine I found them very uncomfortable after half an hour so I returned them.
I just went to Best Buy and bought an adapter with the controls built in. (I'm sure you can find a better deal on-line) I can now use any headphones I like. FYI, I later bought a pair of Klipsch Custom 1's that do not have controls and I now have the best of both worlds.
Also...You can find a thread where someone hacked up their OEM N1 headphones to make an adapter themselves. If that's your thing...
+1 on the Klipsch headphones. Got mine a week after getting my N1. Took me a while to get used to in ear buds, but unlike most headphones they become more comfortable the longer you wear them.
So I can take it from this thread that any headphones with a mic that are compatible with an iphone will work OK for pause/play/skip but not volume?
hmm.. there are three things that I don't like about N1 headsets :
1 - got tangled up so easily
2 - lack of bass, tin-can sound
3 - microphone position is so low that you need to clip it on your shirt.
I tried Sennheiser MM50ip, but sound quality was just plain horrible for the price. I'm not a big fan of in-ear headsets anyway.
So I switched back to my iPhone headsets. Only play/pause button works, but I got some bass back and it sounds much better (not the best though). No need to clip your mic anywhere since it's positioned properly.
Thanks guys for all the advice. I'm still debating if I want to spend $100 on a pair of wired headphones, but it sounds like they might be worth it.
Having a volume up and down on the inline remote doesn't bother me because volume up and down works on the N1 itself even with the screen off and the system locked.
What I have found though is a bluetooth option so I wanted to let everyone know about it. The Sony Ericsson MW600 look perfect if I decide to go bluetooth. It has play/pause, forward/reverse, volume up/down, and most importantly a BUILT-IN FM radio. The best news about this device is it was built for an android phone so all the functions should work (its shipping free with a X10 ). Throw in the fact that it charges with a microUSB charger (same as N1) and its not looking that bad.
This eliminates the need to try to get the FM radio to work.
I love this type of device because whenever one side of the headphones get a short, you can just plug in another. Buying nice headphones for $30-$50 a pair when they get a short is better than spending $100.
Unfortantely though, like the 32 gig microSD card, it was supposed to be out last month, and that didnt happen. So I guess its an its available when its available type situation. If I don't find a wired solution before these come out, im going to get them.

I spent about 100 bux awhile back for some TripleFI10s(usually $300), and they are INCREDIBLE.
More of just trying to tell you how much better GOOD headphones are. The soundstage is such a huge step up. You really feel there. Do your research with AUDIOPHILE reviews/website.
These are amazing headphones....bought 2.
Motorola Over-The-Head Stereo Bluetooth Headphone Black Bulk (S805) - OEM
Check them out on newegg
I use Etymotic ER6i earphones (around 100$)... They sound great and really block all outside noise, so I can use them in the bus/subway without turning the volume up.
However the cord is very long (6 feet I think) and they are very delicate. You need to make sure your ears are very clean before putting them on, else you need to change the filters very often.
I sometimes wish for good over-the-head bluetooth headphones.
I have these, not the cheapest headphones. But, they work great, sound great, block outside noise (without active noise-cancellation which can be a problem for someone with tinnitus), I have had no issues with grounding or anything like that. I've been using the normal cable that came with my headphones for now, however I have a very short (about 3") cable for them. I got it when I was using my G1 so the miniusb-3.5mm adapter would reach to about shoulder length (so I could use the inline mic to talk on the phone). I just ordered this, so I can go back to using the short cable and have a mic again.

Are u in the UK or US ??
Play.com say they are going to be release on the 8th for £40
Might hav to grab myself a pair of dem
These are an excellent value and they look really nice too. They are over the ear and just are an excellent deal.
Sennheiser CX-300-II's are pretty damn good...
I second the MEElectronics M6. They are brilliant for a pair of £35 in-ear headphones.
Etymotic ER6i are good, but they were primarily designed more to be used as in-ear monitors for stage performers rather than casual listening.
Etymotic HF5's. I've owned mine for about a year now and they've been great. Etymotic is a nice company to work with too.
I've been using a pair of Nu Force NE-7M's that I'm very happy with.

However I wanted something with volume control so I ordered a pair of Sennheiser MM200's today. I've never used BT headphones before so we'll see how it works out.

That MW600 bluetooth headset interface looks awesome. Would be interested to see how well it will work with third party music apps like Spotify and Google Listen. I read here that the pause / play button only works on the standard media player on 1.5, could be different on 2.1?
Bose mobile in-ear headset
think these might be good? id rather honestly not have another gadget to charge up..
darn, nexus not listed as compatible, anyone know if it will function as intended?
HTC apparently is no longer replacing headphones. I've had a ticket in with them for a solid week now with absolutely no updates from HTC.
Does anyone know where to get headphones with next/play/prev buttons and a mic?
I can find plenty with JUST play/pause, but pretty much NONE with prev/play/next and microphone!
It seems the Desire uses the same headphones, so I thought maybe I could find those, but they pretty much do not exist online. Going nuts here! I use these things every day, it's such a bummer. I'm using my old ipod headphones now but the sound quality is utter garbage and theres no play controls.
Have you tried calling them? I just called them this afternoon and told them my battery was going bad and that i "misplaced" my earphones. After a few minutes of chat chtting, they're sending me a replacement battery and earphones.
I've talked to them three times now, they just keep saying it should be happening and they don't know why it's not. They never give me a tracking number or anything. It's like stuck in limbo.
It doesn't even matter. I don't care if they are free or even if they are HTC... it's the functionality I'm after!!
whats wrong with them?
Mine actually doesn't work, the buttons don't respond, and the mic doesn't work either..
is this an issue that was going around?
My buttons don't work and the left ear piece quit as well. Only a couple months use!
I lost mine last week, I called them and they sent me a replacement, they arrived in 72 hours.
W.T.F. sigh. Why is it I always have to spend at least 10 hours to get anything done over a phone support line.
Bose Mobile In-Ear Headset. Best sound quality and comes with microphone, play/pause, and I think a double click goes to next song.
Expensive but worth it. Google it or search Bose online.

If you looking to buy a expensive pair, then these are the best Etymotic HF2 High Fidelity Headphones.
The problem is I want high quality but I also want earbud because I need to be able to pause and talk to people without taking them out of my ears. I know earbud and quality don't go together, but the HTC earbuds that came with the phone are honestly some of the best earbuds I've ever heard. Far and away better than the garbage buds that comes with Apple's electronics, and better than most aftermarket ear buds too.
Buy this one, and put normal headphones in this one.

I personally think the stock headphones with the Android characters look a little silly, which is why I never opened my headphones when I got my N1. But that's just a personal preference. If it were me, I'd get and use something else other than the stock headphones.
finally found them. http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=192376 these should be the same ones that shipped, but without the android logo on the side. instead they say "HTC Innovation".
Nevermind, they aren't the same. They are precisely alike except the next/prev buttons do not work. Thanks for making all of your identical **** work together, HTC.

The sku.33718 do not work on my Nexus One. Just got one. The cable is somewhat on the thick side and the control panel is also big. Either they don't work or my phone is defective.
My stock headphones are not able to pause/play or answer calls. This happen about a month ago.
I think I'm going to try and get HTC to send me new stock headphones. If the replacements don't work, then the problem is with my phone...either software or hardware related.
Also the MW600 is pretty much out of stock in the USA. I'm thinking of importing as it is very important to me to be able to stop/start/play/answer my phone without taking it out of my pocket.
I've been having the same problems. None of my buttons work, the left earbud's quit on me, and they keep shocking me. HTC won't respond to a support request (I got this replacement back in February.), and I've tried calling them about it.
Cant' find OEM's online either, anyone had luck since?
I don't know if you ever got this resolved, but I actually had lost my headset that i had with my N1 and when I called they had no problem helping me and sent me a new pair within four days at no cost to me. I'm very happy with them. This took place around the 25th of April and I received them about the 29th or 30th.
htc replaced mine.
I called today to replace mine. They actually and I quote said.. " I'm surprised they lasted u this long".. they replace no charge for shipping or anything..

I've been looking online for earplugs with controls to answer calls and to skip tracks in the music player. Most of the ones I've been have only been for the iPhone or iPod, does anyone know if these will work?
For example these: hxxp://sg.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=437&subcategory=442&product=17989 (link broken because I'm a new member, replace the xx's)
Anyone have any suggestions, recommendations or experiences to share?
I cant click on the link for some strange reason but i use Sony Ericsson Wireless Headset MW600 and i can pick up calls and skip tracks.
I think the link above should be this one:
http://sg.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=437&subcategory=442&product=17989
i still cant see the product, that sends you to the shop home screen not the product page. If you say the name it would save a lot of hassle
Link still works from me on a different pc, name is Creative Labs EP-630i stereo headphones
Ill be interested if these will work. Bought a new pair of phones without the buttons and really miss them!
Also, i have heard that these work well:
hxxp://www.griffintechnology.com/products/headphone-control-adapter
Griffin's Headphone Control Adapter.
My friend has a N1 and says they work.
Just got one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-Sma...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1278934550&sr=8-1
It's surprisingly quite small and compact, button and mic are good quality. I have headphones which came with a short cord + extension (Denon AH-C751), so using this makes the cord length just right.
The smarttalk got a lot of bad reviews because the edges of the plastic parts would damage the cable over time, but the version I got has rubber sheaths where the cable connects with the plastic - it seems Griffin listened to feedback on that one. Still, I can't vouch for the reliability, but so far so good.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'll see if I can find the griffin things somewhere nearby
I read the fabulous klipsch s4i are working with the desire, but I just read that on one forum, so i'm still a bit careful...
can't post outside links sadly...

Not op, but I have an issue with them.
The mic is already screwed up and one of the casings is about to fall apart.
I am willing to spend around 80 € on a pair of headphones with controls plus a microphone. Like OP said most of the ones available are for the iPhone but I heard somewhere with some application installed you could use those for an Android powered phone as well?
The Griffon solution is really not that sexy, I would love a complete solution instead.

so just to get this right you use this griffin adapter with your htc desire to:
1 - answer calls
2 - hands free and speak through microfone
3 - cycle through music tracks and pause music
I read somewhere else that iPhone headphones with built in controls work fine on the Desire.
As I already own a pair of Klipsch S4 cans which are fantastic I looked on eBay for an iPhone adaptor that plugs inline with the headphones. Cost less than a fiver delivered.
Exactly the same as http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Headphone-Microphone-Adaptor-Cable-iPhone-/200484789691?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item2eadd31dbb#ht_1995wt_1137
It works just fine for me and means I can take a call without taking my headphones out.
I have the same product I can play/pause tracks and use the mike, but not skip tracks how did you get it to work?

Double tap the button to skip a track. I thought 3x click skipped backwards, but it doesn't work, at least not with cyanogen mod 6. Long press also takes me to the music app when phone is unlocked, but this might be a CM thing as well. I
Never tried to take a call with the button, but there's no reason it wouldn't work if @MARK's earphones can.
Also, djtosh, sorry about not replying - I haven't been checking this part of the forum. It's been answered anyways:
1 - yes
2 - yes
3 - yes, but I can skip tracks on the ROM I use, not go back

I don't know how you feel about using wireless bluetooth options, but I searched long and hard some time ago looking for exactly the same thing and found nothing with the right functionality - ie. that worked on par with the factory earphones.
After looking into all the options I opted for the Sony MW600 - http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/mw600?cc=gb&lc=en
I like them because I can use whatever quality earphones I want, they sync via bluetooth and the remote control part therefore just clips onto you wherever you like (shirt collar for use of mic for instance).
Has play, pause, skip forward and back tracks, fast forward and rewind, and volume control. Also has the hang up / call button and mute mic function. The display should have theoretically have shown song title but it doesn't. Works great with doubletwist and default music player in android.
Tons of battery life and uses same charging connector as Desire.
Hope my 2c helps people.

It should work just fine, I have several A2DP headsets with AVRCP profile (media controls), and all work fine with my SGS. Moto bluetooth products have always treated me well in the past.
That said there is nothing like confirmation from an actual user, hopefully someone can chime in for you.
I bought this version off DX:

It looks exactly like the "real deal" and works perfectly with the SGS. Good luck!

Got a pair of "made in china" ordered on http://www.alibaba.com/ (these are conterfeit) for not much and batterry lasted about an hour, was unflexible but still pretty acceptable for the price paid.
Then got a pair of real S9-HD and the thing is realy woth the extra (paid 50ish$ on newegg.ca). Battery holds 8 hours, feels soft and flexible and charges takes less time.
First pair was kinda more "Plastic" feel, real one where more "rubber"... kinda like cheap gasket vs. real OEM for a car!
BTW: all Fx buttons works on SGS
Thanks for the reply.
Now I am going to purchase this thing ASAP.
My Playback Controls Don't Work
I'm having trouble with the controls on my S9-HD headset. The volume up/dn works fine, but the play/pause, fwd, rwd don't work. When I press them, they just make a sound, but nothing changes. It sounds like other people aren't having this problem. Does anyone know why I'm having trouible with this? I don't know if I have a setting wrong or something, but it would be great to have those controls available. I've tried them with the stock music player as well as the Double Twist player I got from the market. I'm pretty sure my headset is a legitimate pair. I bought them from Newegg about a week ago for about $50 and they came wrapped in the manufacturer's packaging. I have them paired with my Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile).
Any help is really apprecaited!
Thanks!
Does the control for calling and such works?
NewEgg sells refurb, I had to return the first pair I got from them, still a great service though, but kind of an hassle!
Has anyone tried MEElectronics SP51P Sound Preference In-Ear Headphone with Sound Tuning w/Microphone to check compatability with the G2x?
Or does anyone have a set of inear headphones with inline mic and play/pause button that they can verify works with the normal music player on the G2x?
No interested in opinion just facts
I'd also like to know of a set of inline headphones with music controls for the G2X. I sold my SGS4G to get the G2X and decided to keep the headphones after learning the G2X doesn't come with headphones. The only issue I have is that the PowerAmp headphone control(s) that worked on my SGS4G do not work on my G2X. I could pause play and skip songs on the S4G, but I can't even pause/play with the G2X. I'm using the same headphones and music player so I'm at a complete loss. I'm willing to buy headphones with built-in music controls if they'll resolve the issue but I'd love to have proof.
I have a set of nuforce ne-8. The buttons could pause/play/skip but now that i try to do it, it won't do it. I gotta play around with it some more. These headphones are wonderful for the price.
I bought Jlab j3m headphones with mic and button from amazon for $20 for the G2x.
All functionality is there (answer/hang up, play/pause) except for voice dialer. In fact, a long button press will bring up the voice dialer, but it gets stuck on starting up.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this...
MEElectronics M9P: The headset sounds GREAT but mic/button functionality is a bust. When using the headset to answer a call, the mic randomly works and the phone drops the call. Could be a bad set???
Plantronics Backbeat 216 All controls work except volume but SOUNDS LIKE CRAP
I'll be returning The 216's and exchanging the M9P's. All I really want is great sound and ability to take phone calls for <$60. Any suggestions?? Thinking about Jbuds J3M or J4M; Klipsch Image S2m; or Monster iBeats (refurbs)
Any experience with these?
*I'm using G2X with PowerAMP music app
My klipsch image s2 button does not work for controlling playback on my g2x....bummer.
Bose MIE2: it is tricky to control music. You have to have the correct timing to make it work.
Sennheiser MM60: play/next works
Griffin iphone remote ( http://www.jr.com/griffin-technology/pe/GRF_GC17061/ ) : play/next works (recommended)
Audio Technica iphone remote ( http://www.jr.com/audio-technica/pe/AT_ATMP100/ ) :it also works
Anybody tried any skullcandy buds on this phone yet? What's better jbuds j3, or scull candy titan mic'd?
I bought the Jlab J3Ms, have been using them extensively, and enjoy them very much except for one flaw.
All functionality is there (answer/hang up, play/pause) except for voice dialer. A long button press will bring up the voice dialer, but it gets stuck on starting up.
Has anyone successfully used voice dialer with Wired headphones with an inline mic?
I can live without the voice dial, but my klipsch s2m's that worked great on my n1 are a nightmare on the g2x. Button does not work, phone randomly pauses playback, voice dialer actually opens on it's own sometimes. It seems like it is getting false button presses. Really annoying to have to pull out my phone when doing something active to have to answer call/resume playback/skip track.
Here's a question? Does anybody know if the Optimus 2X headphones work on the G2X, if so it may or may not be worth just picking up a pair of those. Which will probably be much easier to get a hold of. Just a thought. I might do that. (USA version got shafted on accessories)
Spoke with jbuds rep and they confirmed that the g2x jack is setup differently than most phones. I don't know what to do about this. Here is the link they sent me. Jbuds are setup for Mic, ground, l, r

Awesome, these might be IT for me then.
Please let me know how they work if you get them. I spoke with a jlabs rep and they confirmed the jack on the g2x is laid out differently than what the jbuds are designed for, but if they work, they work. Everyone designs their headphones to work with apple products, so outside of lg directly I think finding headphones designed to work with this jack layout isn't going to happen.

I have iphone head phones with mic and htc head phones with mic the only features that function are the play and pause Iam trying to find a way to get all the features of the htc head phones to work (skip/back)
I spoke at length with people at lg and jbuds. Basically they won't work unless the board in the mic assembly is compatible with the phone. So an adapter won't fix it. There are reports that jbuds work, the rep couldn't verify because they don't have the phone there, but he has heard they work too. I'm going to give them a try when I have a little extra cash. The other options are lg wired headphones or stereo bluetooth.

These work great
I've been using the Nuforce-NE-700M. They work great! I'm using them with the paid PowerAMP app on stock G2x. The only thing is no response to long press for voice dialer. Since I haven't heard anyone else using long press successfully, I'm guessing it may be a software issue. The mic,play/pause, skip, back and ans/hu functions all work flawlessly. The voice dialer does work but only if you initiate it from the phone. Setting up a short cut/gesture should be an easy work around. (I here gestures may be apart of the CM7 release for G2X..??)
They're a little pricey for some at $75. However the sound quality is equivalent to headsets that sell for double.
I produce and engineer in my home studio and have compared them to my over-the-ear SONY MDR-7506 which are a professional standard. IMHO the NE-700M's actually perform better. Bass is full, tight and punchy and doesn't distort mid-range. Highs are crisp and mids are well defined. Isolation is supreme. As with most high-end speakers, they will need a few hours "burn in" time out of the box, but seem to sound better each time I use them.
BTW for those that don't know-press mic button twice to skip track and 3 times for previous track. Here is a pic of my settings in PowerAMP (I believe they are the same for the stock player)

A guy previously in the thread said they work just fine with his G2x?
edit: just ordered them from Amazon. Will report back and confirm.
