Hello- I have been very upset lately that Rogers refuses to push any updates at all for the HTC Magic. I was sick of having a market place filled with old apps. Plus 1.5 is very laggy.
Anyways, so I decided to root. I used the guide for getting around the 911 "fix" and I was able to load a rom of a copy of the rogers rom with super user permissions. But that's as far as I got.
Now, I flashed the RA Recovery V.1.7.0H via Rom Manager. When I boot into recovery all goes well, I see the recovery screen and everything. But a few seconds later my phone reboots and kicks me out of recovery. This also happened with the clockwork recovery.
I have an HTC Magic 32A. Any help at all would be appreciated as it's not fair that Rogers is allowed to ruin my experience with the Android OS.

Ok, so my phone is a rooted Droid 2, and all my root required apps seem to be working fine. Well, I wanted to try some new roms, and most definitely backup my phone. So I start Rom manager, flash clockwork recovery, it tells me that was successful, then I try to backup current ROM, and it restarts my phone, and it loads up like nothing has changed. I go to Manage and restore current backups, and there is nothing there. If it makes a difference, the little loading swirl at the bottom is basically always there.
I'm quite confused, I thought this was a straight forward application, but it just seems not to be doing anything. Any help is appreciated.
I'm afraid I won't be much help but the exact same thing happened with my rooted Captivate. According to what I've read on CyanogenMod.com, when you flash Clockwork, it's supposed to put you in recovery. Mine didn't do that, but in ROM Manager, it lists Clockwork as my current recovery. I also tried to backup my current ROM and it did go into recovery and then rebooted and I had the same result as you. I read that you can't flash Clockwork on Froyo and if that's true, it's going to be a pain in the butt to flash back to Eclair, flash Clockwork, reflash Froyo, then try to install Cyanogen. I'm hoping someone will tell me there's either a Clockwork for Froyo or an easier way to do this.
I had same problems when first using ROM Manager. I found out eventually that the little swirls are ads loading.
After upgrading to Premium and getting rid of the ads, ROM Manager has worked fine for me.

Hi all,
I'm new to this but I do have a fair knowledge of computers and moding so this is not all chinese to me. I recently got my new HTC Desire HD and decided to installa Lee's ROM.
Rooted my phone, did both Radio S-Off and S-Off, got ROM Manager installed clockwork recovery and flashed latest radio (26.04.02.17_M2). After applying the flash zip and rebooting phone stayed in HTC white screen for like 30 mins and still nothing happened. I did remove the battery and restarted holding down the volume button to go into recovery and restored the backup I previously made. Phone still stuck in HTC screen for over 20 mins now and nothing happens even after restoring original ROM. The only step I missed was to wipe data/factory reset. Should I do this now and then restore my backup or what? Help me pls on this, the phone is 1 week old I don't want to kill it already...
PS. Sorry for posting a new thread but as a new user it wouldn't let me reply to Lee's.
Thank you all in advance,
Cheers!
You should of at least made this thread under Desire HD section, plus you would get more response.
You got a boot loop. Nothing major and not a big deal since you can still get into recovery and such. How did you apply the new radio? You can't flash radios through the recovery.
If you haven't, then flash radio this way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597 and see if you still get the boot loop.
I hope this hasn't been asked before, but I'm afraid it probably has.
Just unlocked and rooted my N1. After I rooted my device, I downloaded RomManager, then flashed the Clockwork Mod recovery and flashed the alternate recovery. I also downloaded Cyanogen Mod 6.1.1.
I rebooted and it has been stuck on the Cyanogen mod skateboard guy for the past 20 minutes or so. What did I do wrong?
it's hard to say. sometimes errors do occur while flashing a rom.
have you tried flashing the rom again?
Also, did you clear all data before flashing the rom the first time?
Well, crap the bed. I luckily figured it out.
I went into fastboot mode and cleared user data and it booted up just fine. I should have researched this a little more thoroughly before doing this. I knew I wanted my phone rooted, but the entire process wasn't quite as clear (to me) as it probably should have been. As far as I can tell, everything looks to be good to go.
I said I would flash cyanogenmod on a friends G1 because he was fed up with 1.6. I've flashed many custom ROM's on several different devices before but I've made a mess of things with this G1 and I can hardly hand back an unusable phone so I would really appreciate your help.
I rooted the phone using Androot, backed up the apps and settings using titanium backup and then the texts using a text backup app. I then downloaded Rom manager and flashed the latest clockworkmod recovery. Next I downloaded the latest official cyanogenmod rom for the dream/g1 and placed it on the phones SD card using my computer. I then re-opened rom manager and used it to select the zip file from the sd (to flash it) on prompt I checked two boxes one to wipe data and one to wipe the dalvik cache and pressed ok.
The phone rebooted into the recovery wiped the stuff, supposedly flashed the rom and rebooted. However it got stuck on the t-mobile g1 boot screen(it never showed anything else first or anything after) I left it for ages with no joy. I then tried wiping from the recovery and flashing again - same thing so i put cm5 on and tried flashing that. Same problem. Then i realised that it probably would not work because I would need to use DangerSPL as the /system partition is too small on the dream/g1. To be honest at this point I can't be bothered with to do that and this guy will be happy with anything above 1.6 to be honest so I thought I would try and flash CM4 because that's based on Eclair I believe (and so it not require I use DangerSPL or any other method to repartition the NAND). However, I tried it twice and still no luck.
At this point I'm somewhat panicking as I cannot seem to make the phone boot and it isn't even mine! Is anyone able to help?
Anyone? Please?
Look, at this stage I will forget custom roms etc. If anyone can tell me the easiest way to get this phone booting android again i would be very grateful.
Even if you could just tell me exactly how to restore it to stock 1.6 from here?
I have flashed roms on phones before - never had a problem but this is driving me crazy - please help!

Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803482. I hope it helps.
It's been way too long since I rooted mine to be of any real help but I shall try nonetheless.
Firstly, there is a guide in the G1 forum to unroot and get back to stock firmware: Here (but note that I've never done this).
I must stress though (admittedly from memory) that if you have flashed an SPL or radio image at all, be VERY careful about the order in which you revert back to stock (or go to get a custom ROM depending on which way you decide to go). The G1 is very picky, and flashing things (mostly SPL and radio IIRC) in the wrong order will brick the device. That said, if you follow the instructions you find to the letter you should be OK. But yeah, read twice, flash once.
There is a lot of information in the stickies in the G1 forum. It could take a while to wade through but it should all be there. Failing that, post in the Q&A or General G1 subforums and I'm sure a current user will help you out.
I apologise if I've just posted a bunch of stuff you already know/have read - like I said, I've not used the phone in a while - just trying to offer what I can.
Thanks
No worries now guys i've done it! It was quite complicated but its all sorted now. If anyone is trying this and has the same (or similar) issue then pm me and I will tell you how I sorted it.
Otherwise thanks guys and you can conciser this thread:

First time poster: sorry if this is covered someplace, but the forum is quite extensive, and I couldn't find this particular issue anywhere.
I own a Rogers Captivate which I rooted, kept on stock rogers 2.2 firmware, but upgraded the kernel to Onix 2.0.5. I discovered the ROM kitchen today, and thought I'd try 2.3.3 (I got XWJVH v3). I turned off my lagfix, did a factory reset, cleaned my caches and attempted to flash within CWM. I think the flash was only partially successful: I am able to get the phone to boot into android about 40% of the time.
What concerns me is that even though I have installed ROM Manager, and a CWM app came pre-installed with this ROM, I do not appear to have any recovery loader. When I try with quickboot or from my PC the phone just sits at the "I896" splashscreen. It may be worth noting that I attemped this with whatever stock kernel the Kitchen gave me, as well as two versions of Talon. Heimdall has been successful in flashing these alternate kernels for me, Odin doesn't seem to see the phone at all. I have many NANDROID backups, but if I can't get into recovery, I seem to be stuck!
During normal boot (and some unsuccessful recovery attempts) the phone goes into a mode in which the graphics are not displayed properly - I cannot describe this any better than being reminiscent of when an NES catridge was dirty and needed cleaning.
If someone could provide me with some advice, or point me towards a 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 ROM that I can flash on a Canadian GS within Heimdall, I'd appreciate it.
