Need Noob K-9 help please - Android Apps and Games

Ok, I know I am doing something wrong, but no idea what.
I have several Gmail imap accounts, and for some reason when I enable "push" email through k9 emails are delayed or not received/ sent at all. I know they work because androids stock gmail handler works just fine with them. I setup the proper gmail settings (at least I think I did):
imap.gmail.com
port 993 ssl on
smtp.gmail.com
I tried both tls port 587 and ssl.
no idea about the other settings needed.
Thanks in advance.

Honestly never used GMail in K9, as I use my own webmail, but can you clarify which is it; they seem to be not push or never works? If you do a "Refresh mail" does it receive one ones? If so, Push seems to not be working. If it never gets mail, something's clearly wrong.
Your settings seem to be right for the incoming mail server, smtp server doesn't matter for receiving but you'll want to configure it at some point of course.
There is logging you can turn on which might shed some light, although I assume it goes out to logcat... You could use adb logcat, or alogcat from the Market.
The IRC channel on Freenode, #k-9 might also be able to directly help. I quickly looked at their Issues tracker and found nothing related to GMail being completely broken..

The best way I can explain it is this way:
In stock gmail handler I get notifications when I get emails..then I go check and it fetches the emails when I go to the inbox (automatically or something), and its virtually instant
When i run test with k-9 sometimes I get notified within a minute..sometimes 10..sometimes never...and until I get that notification the email never shows up in my inbox in k-9..but I check my pc email and it pulls it just fine (also set to imap). So I must be off on some sending to make push email work properly with k9

think I got it working....one question though...since all my accounts are "push" do I need to have "poll while pushing" enabled?..I wouldn't think so..I am guessing thats for accounts that you may have that are pop

What did you change to make it work?
And no, Push is to get mail instantly, Poll is to get mail periodically... Say you want to sync your Sent mailbox is one example.. You don't want it instantly, but you might want to reference it later.

Eh sorry, I can use pop3 with gmail in my country (NL)
And used it with my trinity.....no problem at all.
@Blob8me
Push e-mail is not where I am looking for.
But think I will give it a look and try it......thanks !
If it's not letting you use pop3, enter a incorrect adress on the first screen (something like [email protected]) so it doesn't try to download the settings. Then, you can manually enter the pop3 settings.
Use the settings from here to configure it.

I tried that, thanks for your suggestion, but for incoming I have to use SSL wit port 995 and for outgoing port 465. I don't know how to set that.
As I can remember my Trinity recognize the settings for Gmail automaticly and let me choose pop or imap.

I guess the default settings have been changed in the ROM, or by GMail...
For ports, I think you can put "smtp.gmail.com:465" or whatever it actually is.

That's odd... When I first tried to set up Gmail with POP3 (mind you it was some time ago) but I think the Gmail site said POP3 was not accessible, and to use IMAP. My bad.

I changed my image regular. Never had a problem with gmail.
Now Imap gives me not the possibility to keep my messages on the server, I can only delete them or send them to the trash can.
Pop3 is available in my country

[Q] mail client for hotmail - mark mail as read on server

so, i had a hotmail account set up on my htc mail app. mail came through with no problems, but any actions i took on the device didnt get reflected on the server. so if i read/deleted mail on the device, i had to do the same on the web inbox.
i switched to k-9 mail which now deletes mail on the server, but doesnt mark the mail as read once i've read it. something which i do quite often as i use my hotmail for online purchases, and i want to read an invoice but keep it for reference.
does anyone know an app that allows mail thats read on the device to be marked as read on the server?
muchos gracias!
anyone?

My wife has a blackberry and uses hotmail also. I believe the problem lies in the difference between POP3/IMAP. Hotmail connects via POP3 and from what I gather that protocol doesn't involve much more than basically forwarding the messages to your phone. While IMAP (which Gmail is capable of using) allows the syncing of deleted items\read items\etc.

I had a blackberry before my android and was able to read and delete mail, mark mail as unread etc and it would be reflected in my hotmail inbox. its really frustrating as having the blackberry allowed me to manage my inbox completely without having to log into my hotmail and now i feel like im going backwards

Try this:
Setup a new account.
In the first screen, where you write your name and password, hit manual setup. In the next screen, select the last option (Exchange ActiveSync).
In the details put:
Server: m.hotmail.com
Username: your email eg. [email protected]
Domain: leave this blank
SSL: Enable this/use always
Certificate: SSL
It has some additional settings (sync contacts, calendars, etc.), select as needed.
Began testing last weekend after seeing this post. http://androidcommunity.com/forums/349480-post18.html
E-Mail is working good so far, have not used contacts and calendar sync. It pushes messages and syncs them both ways when necessary.

so so close!
firstly, thanks for the tip. it seems to be working, but the only issue is that it has constant sync failures. i've only had it up for half an hour or so and have been testing it out, and when it works - it works well. but the syncing issue could be a deal breaker if its not an time-isolated issue. so far i've had to manually instigate the sync when i know theres new mail, or i want to push changes back to the server.
will give it a few days and see. if its still buggy i dont see spending 12 quid on it as getting value for money.
Weird... It's been working perfect so far, maybe it has to do with the OS version you have on your device, I have Cyanogen's 6.1 RC1, Android 2.2.1. Anyway I was looking for a product called Exchange for Android 2.x, but it's $20 and this is not an urgent need for me.
BTW, why you need to expend $12 on this, it's free as far as I can tell

setting up Hotmail account

So I finally got fed up with not being able to send emails through my hotmail account on my phone. I set it up as POP3. I also got fed up with my messages being deleted without me actually deleting them.
I did a quick search about trying to set up my hotmail account and didn't really find an answer. I don't want to root my phone just to get my e-mail to work. I don't want to go through a 3rd party (App via market) to get my e-mails. Is there really no way that I can get my hotmail to actually work on my phone??? I mean this is ridiculous. Something as simple as e-mail doesn't work properly.
I've had my hotmail account for over 10 years and it is my main e-mail.
I use MSN and have no issues. Only thing I had to change in the stock mail app was the Security type from SSL to TLS for the outgoing server.
thanks that actually worked.

Server/URL m.hotmail.com
Username Full e-mail address (such as: [email protected])
Domain Leave this blank
SSL Enable this
Certificate Accept the SSL certificate when prompted
wow thanks. this worked too. now i did use the search function before i posted this... lol. thanks guys you dont know how much of a headache you saved me.
no problem man push mail works better for me instant notification. i lurk here for a buddy that has an inspire.
ok so i accidently deleted the exchange account (trying to delete the POP3 account) and now it wont let me add it again =(. idk whats wrong.
went through now... strange

Push Gmail on Stock android email client

Pretty much in the title. I have an exchange and google account i want to use the stock email client with, so i can cut down on the gmail app.
Exchange gets push, but the option for gmail is not there
Seems odd that the native android app does not support GOOGLE push?
Anyone got this working?
Failing that, can anyone recommend a stock like app that does do this?
Thanks

Cheers for reply but i think you misunderstood me.
What i am trying to do is use the stock android email client for both my exchange account and my gmail account.
I do not want to use the gmail app.
The stock android email client lets me push my exchange account, however there is no option for gmail, only set times such as 15 mins, 30 mins etc.

I haven't used the stock email app for some time, but IMAP needs to be enabled in your Gmail account. I cannot post links yet, but in your Gmail settings, click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, and then under IMAP Access, click on "Configuration instructions" at the bottom. That will take you to a link where you can click on "Android".
OR you can have your Gmail account collect all your mail, then use the Gmail app on your phone. That's what I do.
Good luck!

Sent from my Google Sexus S
would love to know if anyone has solutions to this now...
I did this a while ago on my Tab, but i can't remember 100% how i pulled it off, the following *should* work...
In Mail -> Add Account, put the email address and password, then go manual setup, select exchange, and add the details from here: (i know it's for iphone, just use the server settings etc)

Email issues

Gday Guys,
Just wondered if anyone has had the same issues as i have with the HTC ONE XL (Telstra)?
The email setup facility on this handset gives you the obvious option to set up either yahoo, hotmail, gmail, other...
If you go into the hotmail setup (which i have), it sets up pretty much automatically after you input your username and password in. All good there. It shows my email address as normal, but when you go into it, and try and sync to view your emails, it states no emails present?
Its as if it is not syncing with the hotmail server...
Ive contacted HTC, they gave me 2 answers, the first was that they said there was no issues (useless), and the second guy i got stated they know about this and are going to be producing a patch to fix this issue....(mmmmm)...
I can add my email using the öther" option, and putting in the hotmail pop3 settings and it does accept my email address and even sync, but it will only allow me to sync once every 15 minutes... aarrrggghhhh.... lol..
Ive downloaded the hotmail app for the time being which works syncing my emails (inbox only), however it wont let me access my other folders within my hotmail account....
Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the same thing?
Thanks guys... sorry just noticed this is prob in the wrong section... can someone move as it wont let me delete it... grrr
Try setting your email up using IMAP or POP/SMTP. This should bypass any issues specific to your email provider.
