I'm happy to report that I am another sucessful Magician upgrader after reading all the guides on this site, with a 1.13 Magician + Radio + BigStorage ROM chugging away nicely on my O2 XDA II Mini.
Anyway, I decided to help in what way I can and compile a COMPLETE guide on upgrading the Magician to the highest-level ROM at the moment - the 1.13 ROM + 1.13 Radio, BigStoraged! This guide is basically a compilation of ampda's excellent guide, kta's brief 1.13 + 1.13 Radio guide and this thread here that tells of how to BigStorage hack ROMs on the SD card (instead of having to rip the ROM, hack it, and write it back onto the SD). All of these sources are also credited in the actual PDF .
Why this guide? Because all of the above guides, when combined, make for a quicker way to get 1.13 and BigStorage .

EDIT 1st March 2007: Due to the removal of Windows Mobile ROMs of this site (as explained here), the link to the T-Mobile ROM used in this guide no longer works. The removal of said ROMs from this site pretty much outlaws the linking to or distribution of these ROMs, hence I cannot help you find these ROMs either. Sorry . As such, please refrain from posting requests for ROMs on this thread. Do not PM me either asking for ROMs.
For clarity, the BigStorage update gives you a total of 26.72MB in Storage (ROM), with about 1 to 3 MB used up, most likely reserved for the 'Permanent Storage' feature found in Settings (this is not certain). The BigStorage update does not give you more 'Main Memory' (RAM) to use, however you may have more free Main Memory since operator files (eg. IntelliDialer, MMS support) are not automatically installed (as they usually are when your device is first 'Customized' after hard resets).
By the way, the link to the file is located UNDERNEATH THIS LINE. If you don't see a file here, then you're not registered or logged in. You must register and log in to the forum to see any attachments in posts. Please do not PM me about the file not being here unless you have done both of the above! I could eventually manage the bigstorage rom, but no way to change the radio rom.
Your instructions do not mention the possible country error ID (like I'm getting), so I stil got 1.12, and no way to find how to upgrade.

Its a bog standard phone at the moment, I'd like to upgrade; BUT there are no files on this topic!!

Hi, you will find plenty of files and instructions on this forum. Just do a search with "bigstorage" or simply take a look in the forum "Magician upgrade"

By the way, people are not too helpful, but I was able to find the information after a few hours search:
Just rename the file "HTCRuu.dll" to "Ruu.dll", and launch the "NoID" updater.

Well the link not working isnt really my fault... I just triple checked the thing and it appears as though ampda's site has actually disappeared! I'll attach the file required (Complete with ROM and tools required) to the first post shorty.

Thanks for that! And sorry for the comment, which is not at all directed to you, but more like a general impression as I keep coming accross dozens of unanswered quetions all around the forum. It shows actually that the forum is more for true techies, who in turn are not too keen on supporting newbies (with lots of exceptions of course) ;-)
OK the first post has been updated with the tools required for the update, as well as a direct link to the 1.13 ROM and Radio on the FTP.
As for the Radio Country ID error, I admit this is probably an oversight of mine. I initially used MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe with the radio on my Magician only to have it angrily spit out an error 150: incorrect device. Renaming the HTCRUU.dll to RUU.dll gave me the same error! I then ran the original MaUpgradeUt.exe and oddly enough it worked. After doing the same thing with my uncle's Magician, I concluded that the noID thing was not needed for the radio and hence I didn't mention it at all!
So really I don't know what to say about this other than if the country-ID upgrade fails, consult this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30717

That kinda makes sense I guess. As for the lack-of-replies thingy, I think that could be due to the fact:
1. No one knows the answer
2. Whoever asked the question skimped too much on details or doesn't punctuate their questions or spellcheck\grammarcheck them or... well you get my drift!
3. The question has already been solved, and\or its a question about something impossible. Forum search!
The most irritating thing is that 2. and 3. seem to almost always go hand-in-hand :lol:. Granted, I know that it is a bit tough to find the right solution to a problem, but remember that this is a forum, a developer's forum mostly, and an unmoderated one at that! All the information is there, but its everywhere, so be thankful for those willing to spend time to gather it up into something digestible!

Hi,
each time I heard about the NoID_MaUpgradeUt.exe, I read that you have to run it twice to make it work : the first time it gives the famous Country Error ID but the 2nd time it works... Hope this helps...

Heh yeah I heard that too, but I got away with not using NoID at all! In fact NoID was paining me with code 150 errors instead of the country ID 120 errors, but I hope with this suggestion and also the link above people will be able to figure out the problem.
And also, does having not so many posts on your guide a good thing or not? It could be good because almost no-one has a problem, or it could be bad because no-one uses it . Or I could just be placing too much of my self-esteem on the balance of a forum thread .

Actually, as long as you do not rename HTCRuu.dll to Ruu.dll, the .exe will not even start (because it searches for "Ruu.ddl and can't find it)
Now I got no idea whether there are many versions with different attributes or what.

since I've had serious problems after installing o2 active crap, I needed to hard reset the magician.. but I decided this time to proceed with a bigstorage installation!! And the guide u provided is just great I've done bigstorage succesful, and now I have 26,72mb of total memory.. Anyway, is that normal that even if it's empty, it displays 1,12mb of memory in use?? Maybe I should format it.. :wink:

I come in peace. Let me aplogize in advance... Hey, all. I know this may be the wrong section to post my request, but a wheel doesn't get oiled unless it squeaks... right? I was wondering if any of you devs out there currently working on 2.X roms, can include in your builds some sort of app(s) that find and display media stored on an user's sd card... I know some of you have included gallery.apk(s) for such a purpose, but they just don't seem to work for me. (Maybe, I'm doing something wrong...) I'm not sure which is the case. I have flashed nearly all of your 2.0 & 2.1 roms and have the same issue every time. The media on my sd card can't be found. Pictures or music. I've tried using Astro to move pics in the DCIM directory from one folder to the next, but to no avail. Apps and their respective widgets just sit on my screen blank. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Before the smart a** replies come in, let me say that I've searched the forum and checked the Q&A to see if anyone is experiencing the same thing. I respect everyone and appreciate everyone's feedback and input. XDA has singlehandedly transformed my G1 from a blank canvas into a work of art. One Love
Blank media problem
Can't say I've ever had that problem. Just what is your setup e.g., radio version, spl version, and what ROM is currently installed. I use Amon latest 1.52, the DangerSPL, the latest radio v2.22.19.26I, and Intension-v1.3.3. You must first flash the latest radio before you flash the DangerSPL. You may brick your phone when your don't install the radio v2.22.19.26I, first! Hence, it's called the DangerSPL. They are both found here: http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/. Also, with Amon's Recovery you can properly format your SD Card with Linux, ext 3 and swap. After which, 'repair the ext', a utility found in Format SD area.
These are prerequisites to successfully install most ROMs for the Dream.

Haven't had these media issues when flashing Cupcake and Donut. Not until Eclair. But I will try the repair ext suggestion. Once again, thanks mayne. I appreciate it.

when i re-flashed mine it found the media app that shows all my music/pic/video files.. but i still can't play videos since flashing to 2.1, we might be sol until a dev takes care of that issue. im starting to find other ways to entertain myself on my g1 but its a hard habit to kill in a single flash.

Wrong section, and your knowing it was the wrong section makes it even worse. You'll be happy to know that plenty of us parade about ALL sections of the Dream forum, myself included, and I would be much more willing to help if this were in the right section.

as would I.. wrong section = i could care less about your problem
I have this happen to me, what you need to do is copy all the files from your sdcard onto your computer, format the card, then copy them back to your sdcard. It is painful and time consuming, but it is the only way i could get to work.
Hi Need some advice here. Yesterday i have successful upgrade my SGS2 firmware to the latest by using latest Kies (Country : Malaysia). But after that my SGS2 keep restarting after a message pop up : Sorry, you encountered network error. Please verify your connection and try again.
Later that i spend a lot of time and figure out it was actually crash on some of my existed application after the firmware upgrade. My SGS2 has totally of 134 applications, i am headache to figure out which application is actually cause the restarting . As such i tried to divide the application into 4 section (134/4) to transfer into the .android_secure folder. The first section successfully transferred without any restart issue. But the second , third and forth section having restarting issues. As you know that the .asec are not allow to copy by using usb cable. So every time i do the remove and move in the files and sd card to phone i totally spend more than 20 times to do this. But haven't finish figure out the culprit application.
If you have better solution for this case, please highly advice me. I scare i keep remove and move in the sd card will cause my phone hardware failure one day . Appreciate a lot.

Really need some help now. I am not sure is it cause by my router setting? Or what?? Due to too many application will cause the restarting issue, then i have not copy back some of the old application back to phone. What i did is reinstall back from the android market . The phone have been stable for awhile until i tried to open an old application which will link to a youtube page, then the same error message (refer to red word on the first thread above) and same restarting again..... huhu... now the thing make me so confuse is , is this cause by my router setting more or the latest firmware is not stable enough??? .... Anyone please advice. I am Malaysian and using Malaysia firmware to upgrade. You may check if there is a bug in the latest firmware version ( i couldn't remember the version).

I m using Flawless ICS ROM on my sony live with walkman.. The ringtone only ring once, is there any way to bring the system ringtone in a loop. as i cant get the ringtone file.
Also can i install the same rom again without affecting the data or installed applications.

Okay, so I've installed the CyanogenMod 7.2 MTD version to my Samsung Galaxy 3 (I5800) This one. Usually I try to search before I ask. I searched first on google, and after here, but nothing helpful found, except THIS. Of course I won't "update" my file with a two years old one. So my last resort was to write into the first mentioned thread. Sure, I need to register, no problem, push post reply button.... BANG I'm a new member, so write here, or search.... Okay, I search found the exact same problem which was never answered, and now I am writing this. What a waste of time... anyway I ask my question, maybe a miracle happens:
Is there any way to set the ringtone mode to repeat on CyanogenMod 7.2 MTD version on an I5800? The clever ones with the answer to copy-paste the file into the end of itself 123 times please do not write that because that's not how it supposed to work..
