[Q] Root: Black Notification Bar - Droid 2 Android Development

Has anyone gotten a black notification bar on their Droid 2? I'm really wanting one but am not sure how to make it.

I've been reading on the Droid X about this... I have the files on my computer but unfortunately not the skills to edit the png files...

i have gotten this to work but cant change the color of the text for the clock and other msgs so they are unreadable. still researching...

I was able to get this too using the SenseX theme for the Droid X. But changing the notification bar text color requires deodexing which hasn't been done for the Droid 2 yet. I tried doing it using the Droid X instructions with xUltimate but it just resulted in a boot loop.

[Q] Black Lockscreen Sliders

Just wondering if someone is already working on changing the lockscreen sliders to a glossy black, moto sliders are fugly. I have seen many posts for people requesting this in other threads and being a noob to theming I have no idea where to start.
What is the name of the file that needs to be modified and in which .apk is it located? I might make this my first "theme" project if I find the file and if this has not already been done.
The sliders are part of framework. Pull framework-res.apk from /system/framework and open the apk in any zip program like 7zip or WinRAR. Then look in the drawable-hdpi and drawable-land-hdpi folders and you should see the sliders. Then edit in Photoshop or something. Put back in framework-res.apk then push back to the phone and reboot.

Not that simple...they're .9.png's. if you just edit them in photoshop they'll mess things up and not turn out right.
Even with just simply changing the color?

nope.. when saved in photo editor it loses its .9 properties...
have to used draw9patch in android sdk to apply guides..
just decompile original apk with apktool or apkmanager to get the original showing you where the guides are located
I changed the colors of the sliders from the dark green whatever color to red using photoshop and they work fine.

You got lucky somehow. All .9's have a 1 pixel border that exist as guides to the OS of where to stretch and where to anchor the image. Changing the color can remove/alter these guides. Rarely can you just change the color of a .9 and expect it to work/appear as it should. I would look at the thread with the how to video for draw9patch if you want to edit the lock sliders or any other .9 image.
Thanks for the info.

Something like this?
BTW this if fully functional, drop it in your framework (rename it!) and push it. If its what you need let me know, ill finish the rest.
Black sliders
If you see page four ... Clear / cant see sliders
you might be able to use ninja morph to apply these, or you need to know how to add files to an apk and push back. These go in framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi
Dont add these to a decompiled apk! drop these straight into the apk with your perfered method.
Yeah that is what im looking for...if you wanna finish em that would be awesome!

I downloaded your theme and you successfully changed the color, but the slider doesnt slide. But it is still functional. Just doesnt actually show the bar sliding. This is where the .9.png comes into play
My current update.zip that's up right now? The sliders in that don't work? Every one else reports no problems. Could you be more specific.

I just decompiled my whole theme and checked the sliders. They are compiled and working correctly. Something might of went screwy on your install.

lol, nevermind. I was thinkin you did Froyo Dynomite. The slider doesnt slide in that one.
You can easily changed the color of the sliders. But you have to decompile first. If you just unzip the apk it loses the 9 patch info(see below). If you have a theme and the slider does not slide then this is the reason.

[REQ] Inverse Notification Icon Color (Black Status Bar)

I was wondering if there is a way to reverse icon colors in the status bar. I just downloaded a black status bar and a lot of the icons blend into the black bar (if that makes sense).
If anyone can help me out, thanks. I don't know anything at all about coding and very little about the root process, so a Metamorph option would be the easiest way for me, although I can figure out theming.

I saw those. I wasn't quite sure if it changes the Messaging, Gmail, Voice and other icons since all I see is the USB and USB Tethering icons. Do you know if those are changed?
Haven´t checked that...best, open file and have a look before you morph.

Wow that is a great idea. I never thought of that haha (still brand new to this stuff). Well, unfortunately it doesn't have icons for Messaging, Gmail and a few others. Thanks for the idea though. Now I know I can check.
Any other ideas?
Anyone know of anything else to do?
Shameless bump because I really want this.
There is a desire morph around somewhere, locate the files or images you want and I can make a morph, just need to know what rom and icons.
Also bumping. Now that CM has theming, I think someone should have one out.
Use ninja morph and inverse the images u want in framework-res.apk ...really easy

I checked out ninja morph. You're right, it does exactly what you said...EXCEPT you have to modify every icon individually, which ends up being an enormous pain.
Also, I could have missed something but how do you inverse icons directly on the phone? I looked around and still couldnt find anything. Ended up transfering them to the pc and editing them from there.
In the end, I'm just amazed that android doesn't have a unified icon / theming system yet. To edit messages, you have to go in to mms.apk (took me forever to figure that one out), to edit gmail you have to look in gmail.apk, system icons were in framework, etc. What a pain.

[Q] Possible to make status bar black?

I know the triumph is the new kid on the block and doesn't have a lot of dev or theme work for it yet,but was just wondering if anyone has accomplished making the status bar and pull down black with white lettering? if so... how?
thx
I've tried a couple metamorph themes, as well as an apk I found named GingerBar, all to no avail. Hopefully with CM7 just around the bend we will see black notification bars on our triumphs
I've been trying the same thing. I've tried flashing several metamorph themes and such, even .zip to be installed from recovery. Nothing actually worked. A few metamorph themes just installed indefinitely without finishing. I did a restore from my backup just to make sure there's no damage. I made this thread on HowardForums and someone suggest UOkitchen or whatever it's called lol, but that's seems crazy time consuming. Also, someone posted a screenshot here on XDA in the show your homescreen thread with a modified status bar, might be worth sending him a message asking how, maybe he or she would be willing to help

I'm taking a trip to Ohio tomorrow morning at 4 a.m., 10 hour drive IF there's absolutely no traffic. I can't sleep, because if I do my dad'll have trouble staying awake lol. Yea just go to Droid pirate and use metamorph... who really needs a clock on the status bar anyways? U can theme all the notifications and status bar icons and turn the bar black.

I'm still working on the "white text" half of the conundrum, but in the mean time something like Fancy Widgets should be good enough.
Although a black-bar-white-text theme is something that's a personal goal.
Metamorph makes it easy, but it has a lot more bugs than flashing a theme.

Lockscreens, status bars and reboot options oh my!

From what I've gathered the lockscreen, status bar and reboot option is all rolled up in one framework file. Res something? Anyhow, what I've noticed on all of the ROMs that come with the reboot option, the reboot option zips, and the status bar zips is this; it grays out the main phone menus. The menus used to go to settings, wallpaper changer etc. Stock is white. I happen to like the stock white. Its easier for me to read the gray letters. Ultimately I'd like to see everything black with white lettering. Can anybody point me in the direction of what file needs to be modified and give me a hand in theming/modding that aspect? I'm surprised I haven't seen this mentioned here already. Its becoming increasingly annoying for me to the point where
I won't use a zip if its going to include the dreaded gray menu throughout the phone (shows up in apps too).
Whew! Didn't mean to be so long winded. Also, please don't confuse what I'm saying with JRW's updater zip that inverts the settings screens on Lithium ROM. That's not what I'm talking about.
Cheers.

Not answering your main question, but status bar goes from SystemUI.apk (about 90-95% of resources for status bar are there). Lockscreen - yes, in framework-res.apk.

Yep. Status bar is mostly in SystemUI.apk, rest of it in framework-res.apk. Reboot is a couple different files, including framework-res.apk for the icon and android-policy.jar for the actual entry in the power options menu.
For everything black with white lettering... that would include some pretty heavy modifications of framework-res/res/values/styles.xml.
Yes you are talking about some extensive XML editing. The problem i have run into is tou will get one menu screen just right with black and gray lettering but then when you go to a submenu its all black on black. Ive been chasing this for weeks!! Moto def knows how to make things very complicated :/

If you're talking about something like Settings.apk with the different categories and such, I think that extra .apk's have to be themed for white-on-black (ex. data manager). I haven't tested my theory though. Most (if not all) text colors/backgrounds are in framework-res/res/values/styles.xml or drawable-hdpi for some backgrounds... so if you wanted EVERYTHING to be white-on-black you could just alter Theme.Light to be a replica of Theme.Black but I'm not sure how that would work out :\
I can't keep my mind off wanting everything consistent. Most app settings are black except for Motorola stuff. I guess its their way of standing out. I keep saying i'm going to digg in and start a project. I've done lots of websites in my day. Can't be much different. I also themed quite a few blackberrys. We'll see...

The sickly green color HTC used in the UI

HTC provided quite a few skins for this phone which I'm grateful for and combing the Matte skin with Apex is close to giving me the benefits of both ICS and Sense 4.0 looks (the Matte skin uses what appears to be the/a close representation of the ICS blue). Unfortunately, for whatever reason, HTC decided to leave a certain disgusting looking green present in its default menu/selection popup. Whats odd though, is that when you select something, it uses the blue from the Matte skin. HTC evidently didn't think this far through because there is no way those go together. What I was wondering was if anyone knows of where this green is, whether its a color code used somewhere (this is what I would expect) or an actual image. This is just very irritating to look at when it pop ups and really ruins the consistency of the phone IMO.
If your not sure what color I'm talking about long press on a photo and its that menu I'm referring to. The reason I think its just a color code is because the same green appears in the Root Explorer app at the top (thin line, right underneath the icon) so I would imagine the app is just referring to some default system color and using it to color that image. Could be totally wrong though and its just calling for an image that stretches to fill the space since its only a solid color.
Your solution would be to edit the systemui.apk and the framework-res.apk

I figured it was one of those two. I've only looked through the images contained in the SystemUI.apk file and didn't see anything that looked quite like the green bar. Guess I have to go through looking at the .xml files I'll check the framework-res.apk first thought and see if there's anything in there.
If I remember correctly, the images that are stretched in android are the png files that are the .9 images

Just change the skin type under the Personalize settings. Implements system wide changes for colors and everything.

probably a dumb question, but do we need root access for this, or can I find other means of access? I have encryption mandated by my corporate administrators and I dont feel like decryption/factory resetting/rooting/editing and finding out that it's all for naught when my conpany re-encrypts so i can get my email. Also, please note i'm a noob and may have just said nonsensical things herein

You can't edit those without Root access You won't even be allowed to edit files in the /system directory without root.
So I looked in the framework-res.apk file and I found a lot of images that I believe are the green selectors I was referring to in the OP. The only problem, is I'm not sure of a perfect way to replace them (tried naming the original something weird, but then everything started crashing and needed to use adb to rename the file) and I'm not sure how good it will even look since it appears when you select something it uses several images to create a "light -> dark" type selection. I suppose I could edit the transparency of the files, but I don't know if it will be worth the effort. I might not even be doing the process correctly because I just rezipped my customized framework-res file and changed the extension from .zip to .apk. Is that even the proper thing to do?
Look at the second post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869198
