does anyone have a fix for the hdmi mirroring being abit off? my status bar only shows half way when i hook it up to my tv. any suggestions on how to fix this? its really annoying me!
I think you have to fix that on your television. It's the same on mine and I believe it is just overscan. My TV has 5% overscan and that is just enough to cut off the top and bottom of the phone's screen.

Have you tried a different cable? You should probably post this in general as this is not development.
Just go to your tv setting and look for something called dot to dot or fit screen, p.mode each tv is a little different, but they all do the same thing. You might even be able to find a button on your tv remote too.
I am assuming since you cannot even follow directions on the forum, it is user error.

Moved to proper forum.
What type of TV do you have? That is the important question. My dad has a DLP projection and overscan is something he's been battling for a long time. Not much you can do if the TV is overscanning everything.
With the stock rom, you could try to change the resolution (420, 720, 1080, etc). Sometimes this can help with overscan. We found that at lower resolutions, the overscan wasn't as bad.
With his TV, we ended up using a S-Video Cable to get rid of the overscan, which isn't an option here (HDMI is digital so 1-1 output, where S-Video is analog).

S-Video? Eeek.. I would accept the overscan over standard definition any day.
got my motorola micro hdmi to full hdmi cable in the mail today. plugged 'er in and the picture came up right away. however, the whole screen of my xoom is not showing on my tv. i cant find any settings on the xoom to adjust the tv out.
any suggestions?
You're not going to see the status bar.
i know that, but it also cuts off about an inch on each side, and a small part of the top and bottom. its almost as if its zoomed in a little.
Well that's your TV then. Some do that.
ok, that's what i figured. just wanted to make sure there wasn't a setting on the xoom.

Play with the different zoom options on your tv. You might have one that fits the entire image on the screen. This problem is caused because the xoom screen is 16:10 aspect ratio and your TV is 16:9
On my TV I have input settings that allow me to change it to the devices native ratio, or zoomed in on that. Maybe yours will have something similar.
I haven't tested my Xoom on the TV yet, but I know when I had my desktop hooked up to my TV, I had to have special settings for it because it would never display correctly.
OK Find out how to turn off over scan on your TV and it should solve the issue. Having over scan off for HDMI connections also improves image quality so its good to have it off
Hi all.
First, sorry for my english.
I connected the Xoom on the television to watch movies or even surf the internet but mirroring is not complete, does not show the bar at the bottom and edges.
What is wrong?
I´m using 3.2 with Tiamats kernel and 32" tv.
So you see the homescreen just not the bottom part? Try adjusting your tv screen to maybe screen fit ? I had to change my tv settings in order to do full screen of my xoom
Look for overscan settings on your television.
So guys, my TV doenst have this option (overscan).
Any ideas?
When I plug the xoom on TV they "cut" around the screen.
Thanx!!
It's honeycomb. I have an Acer Iconia tablet and it is the same. In the Acer forum it was asked and someone posted it was a "feature" of honeycomb.

Wow, is this a feature?
Anyway, I think it´s TV problem, because somes show full screen.
It's not a Honeycomb problem. The problem is that your TV doesn't support the screen resolution on the Xoom (1280x800). I have the same problem, my crappy 36inch only goes up to 1024x720 which means if you don't have an overscan option (I don't) you're out of luck.

Hello,
I am interested in keeping the android UI layout in portrait mode when it is connected to hdmi. Was wondering if this can be workedaround by a change to ini, boot or system file.
I currently have SGS2 and an Xperia S, I have HDMI working however the behavior is it shows in portrait for a second THEN the orientation switches to landscape, regardless of the phone's physical orientation. Seems like Android is programmed to go into this orientation when hdmi is connected, but it's not very useful to me...I'd rather it just stay in portrait , or better just follow the darn phone's physical orientation.
The phones should be capable of portrait output as it is shown like that for a second or two before the switch takes place, but how to keep it in portrait/disable it from going into landscape?
Hoping someone that has more programming skill than me-average Joe to find out where, how to do this.
Thanks in advance.
Eric
There's an app called rotation locker in this forum and I think on google play. Requires root though

Tried that app, it didn't work.
The experience seems like some sort of status checking + switching of layout only when HDMI is connected.
I've observed this on stock Androids, if i'm using custom rom on my SGS2, this doesn't happen, so keeping the orientation in portrait CAN happen, just depends on the ROM, so it must be an action tied to HDMI connection being active.
Any more ideas?
You'r phone should have a place in the settings to keep it in portrait mode.
Try this: Settings>Display>Un-check "Auto-Rotate Screen"
Hope this helped
It is already unchecked, that's the first thing I checked naturally.
Anyone that has exp hacking or dived into system files with ideas?
My LG Optimus 3D did not have this problem. It did follow exact orientation of the phone. I see that your SGS2 is HDMI via MHL and an Xperia S is HDMI type-D same as mine.
I had tried the MHL adapter on a Galaxy Nexus and it was the same behavior as Xperia s, the device switched into landscape and can not be rotated the other way so the MHL vs Hdmi out is not the difference here. Good thinking tho.
Anyone else?....
My question is i bought an mhl cable and it seems to work ok, but it doesn't seem to mirror the "hud" in movie apps or youtube. For instance, when you're watching a movie player and you tap the screen the options come up (like the little bar where you move the dot to go to a different place in the movie) but with mhl it won't mirror to the tv. When i go to youtube i have no way of changing the options or anything like that (i use a bluetooth keyboard so I'm on the couch) It will show up on the phone (like normal) but it's just not showing up on the tv. Just the video is but no overlaying options or anything like that.
does anyone know how to get the settings to show up? It's really frustrating!!
actually after many different stock roms, it seems that the htc sensation won't let you see the the hud overlay on the tv. So if you're watching youtube in portrait mode it will automatically show you landscape on the tv. This is ok if you have the phone in your hand, but i want to have it sit next to the tv so i can use a bluetooth keyboard (with mousepad, they are freaking awesome!) so i can have a dedicated media box. But unfortunately unless you have the phone in your hand you can't see half the controls while playing videos.
Hope this info helps someone, or someone can prove me wrong
