Hi happimeal,
For wiping I use clockwork.
I use seek droid
Amazing app and only $0.99
It even hides itself from the program area
I'm like Prey a lot. You can install it on your phone as well as your PC to locate, lock or wipe a phone/computer. http://preyproject.com/

Phone is working perfect except for I still have the old Android Market. How do I force new Market Update?
Thanks,

Same thing here. Go to settings >applications>manage apps>all tab>market. Go here then choose market and clear its cache and data. After I did that it updated and worked fine.

I've got the new market (I think -- curvy top graphic with the featured apps in a 3D scroll, is that what you mean by "new market"?). What bugs me, though, is that the "My Apps" button from my Nexus One has been replaced by a "T-Mobile" button, and I have to use the menu to get to the "My Apps" listing. Is there any way to fix that (although I recognize from T-Mobile's perspective that it's not "broken")?
I like the old market UI better

Thanks, worked great. This is the best fact finding website on the internet. That is why I have the premium version. Well worth it.

Hey
I'm trying to find out about apps that track data usage.
As most of you know, vzw will eventually switch to a tiered dataplan. So I guess that when my 2 years are up, I will have to switch.
Anyway, im sure there are apps that can tell me exactly how much data I really use on average and I'm wondering which app would be the best one.
Preferably a free app.
Any suggestions?

I have been using date counter widget for a long time now and love it. Free and very accurate.

I liked 3G Watchdog free in Market...has some cool features!
i use 3gwatchdog too, it really good, and widget included
looking for something similar.
What do you guys think of this app?
http://www.webroot.com/En_US/consumer-products-mobile-security-android-phone.html
It's most obvious features are malware protection (does this even exist for androids?) and virus protection (again...is this an issue for androids?)
But what intrigues me the most is that if my phone is lost, I can do audible locating, gps locatins, remote lockdown, or worst-case, remote wipe from another phone.
I know there are other free apps that offer the above tasks...I was using wheresmydroid before, but then had to supplement it with other apps to get all of these same features.
Anyway, I know it's an expensive app, but I'm not too concerned about the $15/year. But does anyone have any experience with this app? Does it do all that it says it does? Is there a better alternative available?
I dont know about that app....i use Lookout and I get all that, back up and phone location and such, too...it also scans apps you download to see if there "safe"....i haven't had any problems with it so far...theres a free version and a premium version

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know they had an app.
XDA Mobile
Im using Theft Aware. It has all the same features and I know from experience it works very well. You should look into it.

Hello all,
I keep getting a notification from the market about a recommended app called POPS.
I don't want it and can't for the life of me figure out how to disable market recommendations.
Any help?

Market doesn't recommend apps on your notification shade? Possible virus or dodgy app
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
You're getting adverts in your notification bar? Sounds like you have Airpush on your phone. It gives devs the ability to send adverts and recommendations to your phone. Use this app to scan for Airpush and remove it...

Thanks for the reply...
It is in the notification area but I don't want it at all since I can't even get rid of the notification without tapping it and following it to the market...

wnp_79,
Thanks for the reply, but I installed and ran what you suggested and it wasn't that. It didn't find anything...
Ok try this one...

And i recommend reading this...

Remember to rate affected apps with a single star and mark it as defective / malware to make sure the devs understand your opinion on that kind of ads...

I tried it and it did find one App that was using the push ads (Kona's Crate), so I removed it. But the recommendation is back now, so I guess it wasn't that.
Any other suggestions?
Next step would be to install Lookout Mobile Security. I use it, and the free version can scan your phone for all dodgy apps, malware, spyware etc. and will scan new downloads to stop it happening again. It also has tracking and wiping features should you loose your phone. Unlike certain antivirus apps though, it does not hog resources too much or drain your battery.
I have gone for the premium version, which adds real-time virus protection when using the stock web browser. The free version should serve your needs for now though. Put it on and run a scan. See what turns up.
The only downside to this app (and it's only a small niggle) is that after a new download from the market, the phone may lag a bit for a few seconds whilst Lookout scans it. That's it.
