I've just moved over from the TytnII - and i am feeling button deprived. I'm looking for an app that will allow me to launch a few specific apps (Phone & Calendar & camera being most immediate) without all this scrollling around panes on the Nexus UI and hunting for the icon. I used AEButton+ under WinMo.
any suggestions ?
Personally, I place all my icons that I quick access in the center screen (#3). Then, my widgets and less used icons go out to the sides. I know how you feel though, as it actually caught me by surprise the first time I went to make a call and there was no call button.
Install Home++ or Launcher+ from the market.

No kidding, I was playing with the phone the first day texting/emailing/etc. Then I had to call someone, I was like....um...what do i do.
lol
Found a solution!..
ScreenSlide from the market. Beautiful launcher/app that restructures how you use the home completely. I really like it.. took me all of 5 mins to decide to register the paid for app

Or you could just drag what you want onto your screens?

I want my screen to look like android, not winmo.
Until screenslide supports widgets, it's a downgrade from stock android.

Did you try Home++ free from market?

No. I really don't have a problem with the current launcher.
Edit. So, I tried both Launcher++ and Home++. Launcher++ kinda sucked. Nothing special. Home++ on the other hand is effin' awesome! So flippin' smooth, I get to keep the "Android look" but also expand upon it a little bit. Still playing with it, as I haven't yet figured out how to customize it yet. Just wish it supported live wallpapers. I like the "light cycle" one. :-D
I want one with live wallpapers, I use Home++ which is my favourite. What about everyone else?

Haven't used this yet but would like to know too, I'm looking for something new to put on my nexus, and until Modaco updates his ROM, i'm looking to see what I can get my hands on in the meantime.

Dock shortcuts, change number of screens, and a few other things. check out the thread. It's pretty sweet.

It's basically stock, but you can change the number of screens you have, and it has a preview feature [double tap the screen and it will show previews of your home screens.] There's also a dock next to the app tray, you can have four icons next to it.

Coming from a G1, I just couldn't get used to N1's lack of the hardware "Phone" button. Helix Launcher2 solves this with its dock.

Gotta side with you on this one. Nothing beats the built in task killer. I prefer not to have a separate program for that.
I've been a die hard home++ user and just pushed helix for the first time tonight. I use app control for my task control, as I kind of think that home++ does a shoddy job. Anyway, Helix is great and I love the fact that I can still hide the taskbar; however, there's 1 thing that puts Home++ above it. . . and that's a button to bring down said task bar. It's great to be able to hide it, but what about when I want to look at notifications that are coming in? Home++ allows for this. It's the 1 thing holding me back.
cyanogen w/GDE home
extended home
i use extended home. it supports up to 10 home screens and customizable submenus. i tried the helix and home++ launchers not bad but helix uses to much memory (9.5 MB) and home++ is to slow and wallpapers don't snap to the screen your on.
HelixLauncher 1.3BETA2
got to go with home++. scrolling through screens is ultra smooth and having the bottom scrollable dock is cool. plus it saves screen real estate that the phone, browser, silent and vibrate widgets would usually take up.

I have discovered last night Zeam.
Faster than anything i have tried so far. Has 9 screens, 3 launcher button, nice screen previews. I have all 9 screens loaded with widgets and is running faster than any other home.
After i tried it, got rid of helix and Panda.
Give it a try at it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664149

Thanks for the suggestion. Zeam is very fast.
I tried Helix, Home++, and Android Mate (which I really like for a simplistic approach), but Zeam has a smaller footprint and is very fast.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who hates the iphoney icons...I tried a couple things, but even using bettercut, the launcher still boxes in the icons, which is a pain for apps with long titles.
I'm in bed now(wife's orders), so I'm going to look in the morning, but has anyone else tried looking?
I posted a MOD in this forum that is the stock Android 2.2 Launcher. It works great in my opinion.
ADW Launcher , on another note, I think the bubble around the icons are built into the code for the app. I don't know how HTC did it so it's very likely that I'm wrong.

luncher 2? and we should be able to get that to stick now
i just want the bubbles around the icons gone, everything else im fine with. Is there any way to access the myfavs thing? I probably would just switch to launcher pro if i could do that
Either ADW or LP will let you set the buttons to the left and right of the app drawer button to whatever you want. Just set one of them to the "Faves" app and the other to "Phone" and you'll have the same functionality again.
I personally don't mind the boxes around the icons as much but I hate the espresso rectangular launcher, it's so plain and ugly. I want the traditional launcher and no myfaves crap.
I dont mind the icons, but I had that the lower right key is for Favs. I dont use Favs. If I could change that I would be golden. I use and love all the Sense widgets so I dont want an alternative launcher.
I have to get a few things done for work, but as soon as I finish I'm going to pull the launcher (rosie.apk?) and poke around. It's not just a graphic file because it cuts off text if it's too long. This is probably going to take a while, but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.
I paid for launcher pro because I used it on my nexus and g2, but the htc widgets are very well made, and I'd like to use them. It's just painful looking at these icons.

I'd be able to make a metamorph in about a minute to change that for you. All you need to do is substitute a transparent PNG for that icon background.

Yes and no, in the stock launcher, icon text wraps to the next line. In rosie, this is not true. It just gets cut off. You can make the png transparent, but there's a very good chance it's going to get cut off still. I found some xml files in rosie.apk but didn't have enough time to look at them. I'll explore a little more once my kids go to bed.

I love ADW on my G1, but after putting it on the MT4G, I've noticed that it doesn't run all the widgets... is that because they are sense widgets?

That's correct. HTC widgets require the htc framework.

Most likely, yes. Root was JUST achieved though, so it's going to be a little bit before this stuff starts happening. Next week will be a busy week in these forums for sure....

Check out the hero section they have a mod to change the far right button so maybe following that example something can be done to this!
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
So I found some files of interest while rooting around this morning. In rosie.apk, there are 6 files of interest, the icon borders at rest, selected, and pressed, icon background at rest and selected, and the icon backgrounds at rest, selected, and pressed.
common_inputfield_press.9.png
common_inputfield_rest.9.png
common_inputfield_selected.9.png
common_panel_navbar_button_press.9.png
common_panel_navbar_button_rest.9.png
common_panel_navbar_button_selected.9.png
I made them transparent and used the sdk to change them back to .9 files, but for some reason I don't have r/w access to /system/app/. I'll have to look that up.
Hi guys,
I have removed some of the widgets from my sense (like Calendar) and then i ended up with a blank page with no widgets! so is there any way of removing that blank page?!
thanks!
No
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
so we just have to deal with blank pages?! nothing can be done even after rooting?
Just don't go to the blank page, simples.
I have just twitter, weather, homescreen, music. Leaves 3 blank pages I never go to.
I have to agree that it's pretty ridiculous that you can't choose between 3 and 5 pages on the stock Sense, let alone with the rooted ROMs we have available. It seems like it would be a pretty simple thing to add to these ROMs. *cough mike1986*
What's the need though? Just don't scroll to the blank pages
You can use ADW EX. I have mine configured with just one home page. Works very well, and very fast.

It would be nice to avoid that silly unlock home screen animation, and also the useless carousel. ADW accomplishes that, so there's a "fix", but Sense needs to be more configurable.
Simple answer is NO.
Unless it's like the ARC launcher, which can be edited with 1 line. Changing from 5 homescreen to 7. Although I never tried changing it to 3.
I just figured out I can make folders on my gsll phone in the app menu. (Not the home screens) I can put all the carrier BS and other app icons I don't want to see in there. It brought my app screens to 3 swipes from 5. Is that a standard Android feature or something Samsung added in with touchwiz? I would be interested in doing the same on my tablet.
That sounds like a Samsung Touchwiz feature. As far as I know, stock app drawer does not support folders/dedicated pages.
However, you can simply get a non-stock launcher such as Apex or Nova and they support app drawer folders, plus a multitude of extra features lacking in the stock launcher
