I can't hear the ringtones/message tones when I am in my truck at all...the only way I see someone is calling or has sent me a message is when the screen lights up. Is there a mod or app that will make them louder?
I know you can modify the volume via the service menu, but I'm not brave enough to try because I don't know what the variables equate to.

This is very annoying to me and a few other people that have the captivate but during a call and you get a txt the phone vibrates. Is there anyway/trick to turn this off and have it beep during a call?
If you get Locale and a plug-in for determining if the phone is on a call or not, you can have it automatically disable vibration when on a call and then re-enable it when the call is ended.
Why would you want to turn it off? I am pretty sure you do not get more than 1 or 2 text while on the phone. I think its a very useful feature. Well back to your question as far as I know there is no way to do this unless you want to dig around your database folder and see what you can find??
Go to settings-call settings-all calls-alerts on call Off
you can turn it off, but every phone does this...i mean how else are you supposed to know if you got a text if you're on a call?

My point exactly. I would just put my phone down and never notice the missed message/call/whatever since we do not have LED notifications.
My Blackberry would give me a little audio indicator in my ear if I received a text while speaking on the phone, even if my phone was set to vibrate. It was a nice feature. I wish this phone would do the same because it vibrates so loudly I can't hear what person I'm speaking to is saying.
if you're using the headset, it gives an audible sound.
I dunno I guess I don't mind as much, if I notice anything then I will defiinitely pass it along
Open the Messaging App.
Hit the Menu Button.
Go to Settings.
Scroll Down.
Uncheck Vibrate.
Hey guys.. your getting a misunderstanding... I want it to vibrate when im not talking on the phone but when im talking on the phone like was said above... it vibrates so loud when your talking. I was asking if there was a way to turn the vibrate off during the call and get a beep sound instead like the dudes blackberry does.
I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to silence my text ringtone (I have a 30 second song clip) by hitting the volume rocker/power button. Just to clarify, I want to silence it while it's going on (as opposed to just setting the phone to silent beforehand).
I know that hitting the volume rocker while the phone is getting a call will silence it, but it doesn't do it for texts or email notifications
Thanks!
I don't think you can do it.
But really, a 30 second sound clip for every single text message? How does that not drive you insane??
To be very honest, I think this was apple's exact argument for not allowing custom sms ringtones

Many times while I'm home my phone isn't in the same room as me, and they were just carry over from when I had my blackberry (in which anytime you hit any button on the outside, it would mute the current ringer). So I usually don't hear the entire clip usually, but it is very annoying if it is in the same room
Edit: Haha well I was sure that because RIM could do it, there would be a way to do it on android. I figured it would have to probably be built into a ROM or something
I don't see why there needs me to so many choices when it comes to sounds. There's
Incoming call volume
Media volume
System volume
Notification volume
Is there a way to set the sound option to actually turn off/on ALL the sounds? Or at least group the Incoming call volume, system volume, and notification volumes together? For some reason, even my notification volume goes way down if I try to turn the ringtone volume down through the rocker yet it won't go back up unless I manually do it from the settings. It's a little annoying, this is the one thing from Apple that Android would copy. Running Infused v2.2.3 by the way.
Have you tried the sound button in your notification bar?
That turns off everything with 1 button.
Kinda obvious lol
Edit: it turns off all sounds except media volume.

Thanks captain obvious but I would like it to turn off sounds from apps too. It's annoying to have to always put the mute on in games.
There's also the problem of sounds from notifications changing too. I want those to always be synonymous with my incoming call volume.
There are plenty of apps that can lock volumes togheter. Search for sound in market. Dont remember any names

I like Simple Sound because you can place a quick toggle Widget on your home screen...
If you're feeling fancy, you can use Llama and it will do location based toggling
Hello,
Is there anyway to make all the volumes move together at the same time? Its annoying me that when you use the volume up and down on the side of the phone it changes the ring tone only. Sometimes you want the text tone louder but its a lot off faff to go into the settings and change it for the one time you are in a noisy area and you want to hear it.
Thanks
Richard
You could always download an app like Quick Settings and link the ringer volume to the notification volumes so they move the same.
Additionally, Quick Settings is a sweet app and its free.
I am in the market right now!
So, I know everyone loves Jelly Bean - I couldn't wait to get it. And while there are some great things about it, there are also some annoying things. When using Google Voice to Text input it makes that loud "beep" sound to let you know to talk now. Is there anyway to at least lower that sound? I use a voice control app called AVX and when in "wake up mode" (means it's listening for a special command to wake up and take your request) because it's constantly listening using Voice to Text, that beep goes off like every 20 seconds or so. VERY annoying. I'd like to get rid of it altogether or at least lower the volume on it.
Would love a non-root way to do it, but this might also be the thing that finally gets me to root my phone if that's what it takes so all methods suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Just wondering if anyone has a solution for this
