[Q] Wireless Tether 2.0.2 won't work. - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I'm running CM6, with Wireless Tether 2.0.2 (only wireless tether app I found), and I've done some searching but found no answers to my issue.
Every time I tap on the app to start tethering, it says that it's starting to tether but then pops up saying it couldn't, to try again later. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, that still didn't work. I've tried clearing the SuperUser cache/data out and that still didn't do anything. I've also rebooted the phone but that didn't work.
USB Debugging is also enabled.
What could be wrong? Or, should I try finding a different version or app of Wireless Tether?

Go to about phone under settings and see what PRI you are running.

I haven't a clue what PRI is, so here is what all is About Phone:
Model number
Hero200
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
2.42.01.04.27
Kernel Version
2.6.29.6-cyanogenmod
[email protected] #9
Mod Version
CyanogenMod-6.0.0-Heroc-RC1
Build Number
FRF91

I never noticed that PRI and PRL weren't listed there on CM6 until I told you to look there lol.
Have you tried usb tether?
There was a PRI that didnt work well with tethering, and flipzmode had a fix that I've used ever since it came out, never had a single problem. Maybe you can check out his site for more info? I'll keep digging on this rom to find where its at.

I was having the same problem using same rom the tether wasn't working I found out the problem was wifi wasn't working hit menu-setting-wireless and connection then hit wifi if it says error then you should just re flash rom and get latest nightly worked for me

dont use 2.0.2... use 1.60 pre3.. never had a problem with it

there is nothing wrong with 2.0.2 i'm currently using it...
i've had this happen to me before, here is what i did to fix it...
first, completely delete your current version, then install an older version and try that...if it works then you can just upgrade it from the market....

attached is the Wireless Tether v 1.60 apk

any ideas?
You didn't mention it, so I have to ask:
Have you tried downloading and installing the latest version?

The same thing happened to me. I went to settings>applications>manage applications, and then uninstalled. Then go back to home>all programs and open it up again, it will still be there. It will reinstall and should work.

had the same problem.
ended up switching to a different ROM because of this.
I found that this problem was fixed by disabling Apps2SD.
Honestly, that program causes more bugs then it helps...

This is being caused by the absence of the "Binaries and Configs" that Wireless Tether first installs to the phone on its initial run. Like the Cetus said, uninstall and reinstall the 1.60 version, and you should be golden.
Mine was doing THE SAME EXACT THING, all you have to do is uninstall completely, then reinstall 1.60 and it will work perfectly. You can get the apk from the developers website here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I had to uninstall, then reinstall the latest version to fix mine.

Wifi Tether Installed but not showing up on Network

From what I have heard, the Epic only puts out a Wireless N signal. So if you are trying to connect with any device that is only a/b/g, then it will not work.

You were right .... when I used my friens iphone it showed up right away
Thanks
I had the same problem. Updated to the latest drivers on my wireless network card on my laptop and then I was able to see it. My laptop is not wireless N just b/g/
the wireless n thing doesn't make sense because I tried using the sprint hotspot and it showed up on my computer as a network to connect to, using Wifi Tether for rooted users never shows up.
Make sure your computer is set to look for Ad-hoc networks, instead of only infrastructure.
How do I set it up to look for ad hoc networks?

YEAH BABY!! I returned my phone to stock, rerooted, and installed the newest version of Wireless Tether for rooted users(version 2.0.5 pre9) and it now works. Getting 2.52mb download on 3g.
Im sure all I needed to do is update to the latest version of Wireless Tether, but I wanted to start fresh anyway.
When I installed wireless tether and tried, it would not broadcast an ssid.
From the app, pressed menu, settings, then menu again and selected re-install binaries and configs.
This fixed my tether, nice and simple. Hope this saves someone a reflash.
Works
2.0.5 pre 9 - googled it, downloaded it, uninstalled the officall 2.0.2, installed the new one and BAM! getting 1.5mbp down
Having a problem here. I am using Wifi Tether 2.0.5 Pre-11 and it works great on all devices except the Zune HD. When I use Sprint Hotspot my network shows up fine on the Zune HD but using Wifi Tether I don't get any network from my phone, but Itouch and Iphone does. What can I do to fix this? Thanks. I think it has something to do with adhoc or wirelesss N, I am not sure.
Ok now I have definitely figured it out. The app will only do Ad-Hoc and not infrastructure, any Wifi Tether apps that do infrastructure?
Use the i900 mobleAP app. That broadcasts in infrastructure mode.

I am going to give that a shot once I get out of work. I tried downloading Clockwork ROM Manager and then installed the Recovery but couldn't get it to work. Kept booting to android recovery.

Ok I am going to give it a shot now. Currently restoring to stock ROM since I was tying out that Heroic Epic ROM.
SUCCESS it works. But now my Galaxy S bootscreen looks broken. It has a flickering square that says ANDROID while booting up. Happened after restoring with Clockwork Recovery.

[Q] Market fails on downloads

My market will not download anything at all, it loops 'downloading' and 'download paused' then fails out. Currently running Eclipse v1.1 with imnuts PBJ non-oc kernal.
I tried the market fix posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121179 and tried swapping out the Vending.apk. I cleared the data/cache as well, that didn't do anything either.
I also tried Gummy Charged(1.8.1 and 1.8.5) and Humble 1.1 roms, still no dice.
Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated.
Go into applications in the settings menu. Force stop and clear data then retry. If that doesn't work try restarting the phone. That worked for me.

I had tried doing that with all the roms I ran, didn't do anything. I just odined back to ED1 and market is working. Going to flash back to Eclipse and see what happens.
That was my second idea. Lol. Was to just reflash the ROM. Hope that works for you.
Back up and working, weird.
try opening your google talk, i had that problem before on my Incredible and by doing that and logging it in, it fixed it.

Well, I'm dumb

I just got my Xoom back from the 4G upgrade yesterday. I decided I would take a shot at rooting and overclocking it for the first time since now I didn't have to worry whether Motorola would care about the voided warranty.
So, I rooted using the universal root kit and everything was working swell. Well, except one problem - I couldn't download anything from the market. Instead of looking more into it, and see if there was a way to fix it, I just decided to unroot.
Surprise, surprise - I went all the way back down to 3.01 without knowing the consequences. Not only did I lose my 4G connectivity, but also 3G. Now, it shows me having full bars, but it's just not connecting. My Wi-Fi works fine.
So, now I've been hunting and trying frantically to get back up to 3.2.2 and get my internet back. I've tried using the stock/rooted version that Solarnz provided, but alas, I still have no connectivity.
I've tried looking around on the forum, and I've tried a couple of methods that still didn't help. Has anyone heard of a sure fire way to correct this problem yet? I think I'm practically screwed, since my 3G won't even work when I'm down on 3.01, so I won't be able to get an upgrade to 3.2.2 later on (if the stock image is released).
Might want to look around some more:

Well, I tried some of those methods already. I just tried manually updating to HLK75D this morning and I still don't have either 3G or 4G connectivity.
My kernel version still doesn't have the "ltedc" part that it had before I went through all this mess. Every time I go into the mobile network settings, I still don't have the LTE option and "Activate Device" is always available, even after I activate over Wi-Fi.
Ok try this. Its working with any android device. But I never try on honeycomb.
Open Market and download "Astro file manager".
Open astro>preferences>enable browsing download.
Restat u xoom, just for me
Enjoy
Update: ops....u about "market "download problem.....
Did u try do simple cache clean from application> manage aplication?

Well, I'm not entirely sure how that would help with my lack of 3G/4G connectivity. If I would have known about that method to fix the market problem prior to flashing back down to 3.01 from 3.2.2, that could have saved me a lot of trouble.

Nexus S Not Connecting to Network on Reboot

My dad's Nexus S keeps disconnecting from Wind and will NOT automatically reconnect to Wind. I've set it to Automatic. On top of this, *every* time I enable Wifi or Bluetooth on his device, his Wind connection drops and remains dropped until I manually reconnect.
The only way around this issue is if I manually select Wind's network in the settings menu, thereby avoiding 'Select automatically'. The problem here is that when the phone needs a reboot, it doesnt remember the last network and it needs to be manually selected *again*.
I've done a quick search via Google and there are others having the same/similar problem;
http://www.google.ca/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=34411ac78e8a4ff6&hl=en
Apparently the 2.3.6 update doesn't fix this either. Is there a 2.3.7 release? I'm even thinking of rooting and flashing the phone to use a custom ROM (MIUI, its much cleaner with better shortcuts which my dad would like).
Does anyone know of a solution to this? I'm thinking of going into Wind and having it replaced (its less than a week old). Question is, if he's racked up more than 30 minutes, can he still get a straight exchange for the phone? Would it still be eligible for exchange/replacement if I tried the ICS update to the phone?
Did you guys root the phone? Ans if you did, did you installed custom rom? If so, it just might be the incompatibility with the Nexus S. If you didn't root it, the phone just might be defected. Try updating the os. It always doesn't hurt to update os. If that doesn't work, I guess you should return it and get the new one it somethign :/

At the minimum, I would try updating to 2.3.6.
Yeah try to update to newer os. And if that doesn't work, I guess you should exchange your phone or something??

I've updated my original question with more details.
But no, its not a rooted phone. Everything is stock Android 2.3.4. The phone is only about 5 days old, we got it for him on the 27th of December (or 26th, cant remember). I have installed a few applications (cnn news, wp.pl, bbc news, unit converter, etc). I've updated all the applications as well.
How can I obtain 2.3.6 and install it? Is the process difficult and would it render the phone non-returnable to his carrier for fixing/replacing?
If you have stock, the process is easy was snap if there's a avaliable ota update to your phone. Go to setting-about phone-system update (I'm pretty sure) and if there's an update for your phone, you can download and install the new rom from there.

Hi, I have the exact same problem as the original poster, except worse.
I lose my data connection when I turn on wifi, or after I reboot my phone. And once I lose the connection, I have to power off and take out the battery for it to work again. My phone was already rooted when this problem start about 4 days ago, was using stock rom (2.3.6) I downloaded for my I9020T (don't ask, minor hiccup when I was rooting my phone...)
So far I've tried the following:
1. boot to CWM recovery -> factory reset, wipe cache, unsuccessful
2. *#*#4636#*#*, changed preferred network to WCMDA preferred or only, unsuccessful (I also had issues with sending SMS, so I also updated the SMSC, which is 07916174080001f6 for Mobilicity in Canada). Also selected "Automatic" in "Select radio band".
3. I flashed the OS to cyanogen, still same problem.
4. In mobile settings, tried changing apn, toggle data connection, 2g/3g, "Select automatically", doesn't work.
5. a whole bunch of other voodoo I found on the web, but none worked.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is flashing with a stock sbf, because I can't seem to be able to find one.
The error message I see in *#*#4636#*# -> Phone info is something like DcInactiveConnection...: unknown data error (sorry can't remember the whole thing).
Also tried asking mobilicity to refresh my service, but that also didn't help.
I ran logcat in terminal emulator and searched through the log for "error" or anything suspicious, the only thing I saw were these,
1. Error loading keycharmap file '/system/usr/keychars/herring-keypad.kcm.bin'
2. caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connection timed out
I/TelephonyRegistry( 188): notifyDataConnection: state=0 isDataConnectivityPossible=false reason=apnSwitched interfaceName=null networkType=3
I/TelephonyRegistry
3. onErrorResponse: Failed to send 5 events because of [com.android.volley.TimeoutError]
D/Volley
Tried googling all of them but didn't find anything useful.
I've been at this for the past 4 days and still haven't been able to fix this. I tried swapping in another mobilicity sim card and it also had the same behaviour, so it's definitely something with my phone.
Also, after I power down and remove the battery and power it back up again, the connection still doesn't come back automatically, but I have to toggle the airplane mode to get it to connect.
At this point, what else can/should I try? Or should I just ask them to send it for warranty?
Any help/advice will be VERY much appreciated!!!! And apologies for the essay.
Thanks!
NM, I reread your post. I have nothing for you. Sorry.
