App idea - Notifications for WiMax reception - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I got this idea for an app when i saw the wimax notification app and thought that this is what it would do.
Notifies you that a 4G connection is available WITHOUT having to have your 4G connection on. It would be done similar to how locale location services work, I know where the towers are and your phone knows where you are. Combine the two and you can determine when you would get signal, but not be draining the extra battery of having 4G on when it would be unnecessary.
Anyone think that this app would be useful to them? Anyone know how to make it or that could help me make it?

Roaming indicator (triangle) is showing all the time. How to remove it?

Hello,
my service provider displays the roaming triangle always on the top of the screen. Even if I am not connected to the 3G/Data.
When I checked it with another provider, using a different sim card, it dissapeared.
Does anyone have any idea or a solution? I selected the "don't roam" also, it is always there and in front of tiles and programs its really annoying.
I don't mind if it's always hidden. Thank you!
maybe a registry tweak?
I had a similar problem with the call forwarding icon. all i did was enable call forwarding and then disabling it and restart. the icon went away.
Thanks but is not my solution... I guess a registry edit will give the trick
Dumb question -- Did you try a battery pull?
Also, maybe in your area you're always on an alternate provider's network. Some cellular companies sign agreements to carry each others traffic. I'm not sure if the phone can be programmed to still use these alternates in "Don't Roam" mode.
I think my company works like this. So i thought of a registry tweak
My phone gets the triangle allot, when I hazy evo I wouldn't . What gives? I think its a bug....

These are the changes that Tmobile made to the phone

By going through the manual & comparing it to the EU version I've compiled a list of things tmous has changed on the phone. (in case anyone was interested)
Removed:
Quick Lookup - ability to select something & choose lookup through Google, Wikipedia, etc
Show Me app
Ebook reader completely missing even though HTC widget is still there
Voice Recorder
Voice Dialer
Dock settings
Locations
The Device Setup on first boot is missing things
Added:
Wifi calling (Tmobile's UMA feature)
I wonder why Tmobile removed all of these?
Here is a Voice Recorder app in the market that someone recommended since ours is missing:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.tokasiki.android.voicerecorder
Did they keep Locations? And the quick look up thing is actually useful...dumb.

Ran into the voicerecorder bs.
Is there anyway to add any of those features back in or are they hard built into the rom?

What do you mean by "wifi calling"? is it calling via wifi using SIP provider?
If so, we do have it on our Vodafone UK branded units.
If it's something else, please explain.
well I guess it's good I havn't waited for the 4G to come and pre-ordered the British version.. just one thing, the WiFi Calling looks good.. (first time with Android and HTC xD) is there any way to get it in the UK Sensation Z710e ?

T-Mobile is a pretty cool system. When you're at home (or on a WiFi network that doesn't do much filtering), phone calls, SMS, and MMS inbound or outbound route through WiFi instead of the cellular network. I've noticed this has the benefit of improving battery life while on WiFi, as it turns off the WCDMA (3G/4G) radio. It actually seems like it might turn off the cellular radio completely, I'll have to check when I get home.
The one downside is that if you are on the phone and walk away from your WiFi network, it will drop the call. It can't hand off.
I'm not sure if this is common in Europe, but in the states, many wireless carriers offer femtocell units that users can install in their home if they have bad reception. WiFi calling eliminates the need for that.
Wifi calling will notify you of a mms but it will not download the message. At least that's my experience with the G2x.

ah sorry was just going off what I've been told regarding MMS. I actually don't use SMS or MMS, I use google voice for "SMS" purposes and don't have any use for MMS (if someone wants to send me a photo they just email it).
I have an unbranded phone from HK but also have Show Me and Locations. (Maybe the other stuff too - didn't check).

I think it shuts off the radio as well. My buddy had it turned on by accident & was freaking out because he was on wifi & showed no signal bars.

A similar feature to the TMOUS "wifi calling" is offered in the UK by BT Mobile. They call it BT Fusion.
Fem2cell is available here from Vodafone, known as Sure Signal

Good call, I'm gonna need wifi calling at the very least before I'll hop over to an alternate ROM (who am I kidding I'm sure I won't be able to resist). The my account app is handy but it's in the market anyway (there was an update a day or two ago).
When you say Dock Settings is there a separate App/Icon for the EU version or are the settings completely gone from withing the Settings Menu?

[Q] Change 2G/3G switching treshold

Generally my sensation has a decent reception. Most of the times i`m able to get a decent 3G/HSDPA signal without any problems.
The problem is, that I live outside the city and at home my (3G) reception sucks. My Sensation seems to suffer from this poor reception a lot more then my previous Desire-Z.
The 2G connection is fine. When the phone switches to 3G however, I only get one bar and the connection frequently drops so that I have no service at all. When i set the phone to only use 2G, the connection stays stable and since I have wifi, having only GPRS at home is no problem.
I don`t want to leave my phone on 2G only because when i`m not home, the 3G connection is usually fine. I was wondering if there is a way to manually change the 2g/3g switching treshold so the phone will only switch when it has a decent 3G signal. I tried to set GSM Auto (PRL) at the #*#4636#*#* menu, but this doesn`t do the trick.
Thanks
You might have already found an answer to your question, but in case you haven't, you might wanna check out WMLongLife.
It has the ability to automatically disable 3G when you have access to a WiFi network.
Hope this helps
I would be quite interested to see the trick how you are running such a deep system tweak application from Windows Mobile on a Android phone ...
Best regards,
dingolino
But there is a possibility with Tasker

I used tasker to achieve this, when it notices my wifi ssid, it switches off 3g. The down side is that wifi needs to be on ask the time. You could also use "show and switch 2g/3g" from the market, with this APp you can switch with one button or use a schedule.
Guy from reply #2, this is an Android forum not winmo. Winmo it's dead.

[Q] How do I turn off the cellular radio without disabling mobile data?

I know for some the title is a little contradicting, but here is what I am looking for:
I would like to turn off calls and sms, and enable only mobile data (3g). Airplane mode is not good for this as it turns off mobile data. I have done this on an old windows mobile phone I used to have (motorola q) but I haven't found much info on android for this. I know some people have also asked the same question but no answer (forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g/61387-how-turn-off-cell-phone-radio.html).
I have an Samsung exhibit 2, it's on gingerbread.
I am wondering if it isn't as simple as to replace the normal phone apks with the ones from a tablet (since tablets cannot make voice calls or sms) was anyone tried this? Maybe can point me to a place to try? I think the apks to replace would be the 2 being discussed here:
android.stackexchange.com/questions/7133/how-do-i-turn-off-the-cellular-radio-without-disabling-bluetooth
Thank you.
Tablets can make voice calls AFAIK. Although one looks very stupid holding a large pad onto the ear. Normally, it goes to Loudspeaker by default.
Anyways, what you are looking for might not be in Android. From the look of it, this is a driver feature. So if the drivers of the phone's radio does not support this feature it might not be possible.
Anyways, is it possible to do this in real GSM radios? Isn't GPRS in the same band as in Voice calls? I'm not sure about HSPA.
Why would you want to do that?
Do you just want to disable texting and calls? (You could just ignore them?), or you could just use Wifi.
In older phones (like 2g and basic cell phones), they did not have mobile data, so all they had was the cellular radio. In newer phones though, the cellular radio and 3g/4g is the same piece of hardware, so it is not possible, as far as I am aware, to disable one or the other selectively. Sorry
If you're own a sprint phone and try to download a phone call can break the connection. I am also looking for a way to temp disable the cell radio while downloading.
"Juice" might do it. I know some of the battery saver apps will allow this customization where you can have data only, radio off, radio on data off...etc

phone info app best thing ever, almost

So in my house I have terrible 4g service. I have a 3g extender and for my old iphone it made life great. So i found an app called phone info thanks to something i was reading on XDA, it allows me to switch to 3g from 4 g, and the reception in my house is awesome now. what i am wondering is if there is any way for me to have the phone automatically switch to 4g when i leave my house? will tasker or llama do that for me? or is there a setting in phone info i am not aware of?
If you go into settings>network, there should be a setting to switch between CDMA and CDMA/LTE. I'm pretty sure you can set an NFC tag/sticker (e.g. TecTiles) to do that, which wouldn't be automatic, but simple as swiping your phone over the sticker.
I'd imagine Tasker would have some option for this, too, tagged to location. I don't personally use Tasker, so I can't test it for you.
