question about the home screen - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

i wanna use a homescreen alternative to save battery life and have extended features, im using the Helix launcher and everyone is saying ADW is better, i find ADW laggy and buggy, so my questioni s which one saves more battery, which one has better features, and which one has a better overall experience?

I've never had any problems with adw... and the latest release added some nice new feats. Like custom icons, reordering screens, icon packs support... and my battery really lasts a lot... with heavy usage it lasts about 30h...
Hope I helped...

New ADW EX...

Hi forum...
Have you seen the new ADW EX ?
It is really great on our phone I think... Really nice effects and so on...
But then again, I have always liked ADW over LP, i never understood the fuzz about LP...
But let's not turn this thread into a LP vs ADW fight...
Let us just look at this amazing new ADW EX Launcher...
Sent from my Android phone...
It is great love the transitions and less laggy the LP but still wished it was easier to customize ADW.
Its quite good, bought it this weekend and still playing around, like the animated page turning, and it is damn fast...still working on netfront and quicklauncher as well, fortunately i do have home switcher

It's cool... lovin it
It's great launcher. Very fast, lots of options and effects. Bought it straight away, when heard about it. In example I like 4D drawer and animation when sliding between desktops.
Totally agree! This thing is lightning fast and looks sooo good!
I uninstalled Launcher Pro and so far I am not missing it!
Here are my new homescreens: http://twitpic.com/3k2427/full
Yup, just bought mine, it seriously has no lag even with all the graphics turned on. This is a masterpiece
Woah! It's bloody amazing indeed!
Transitions are outstanding!
Bye Bye Launcher Pro!
Thanks pshdo for informing us.
I agree with all of you too, I have been using launcher pro and installed this new ADW launcher.
The animation is very cool and fast, the switching between pages are very smooth.

top launcher, 1-10....10!!!!
20 out of 10 for me this launcher rules
yes, it's interesting. I'm spending some time to play around.
can someone tell me how to set the home screen number?

Screenshots won't do it justice as it will still look like a launcher lol
It is how fast and fluid it is that stands out.
Just tried it on a mates x10, it is awesome. Gonna buy a copy asap.
currently using it, nice n fast, but lp still looks more polished imo

Any ideas about battery life?
I notice that this is a fair bit smaller in file size then ADW.launcher.
Therefore, I'm wondering if using my ADW.launcher configuration on ADW EX would benefit battery or speed etc?
Any thoughts?
battery is okay, this morning at 8am from the charger at 100%, it's now 6:57pm and i have 87% left. Normal usage, few calls, few times on wifi internet/xda, few sms and an hour tweaking this launcher...not bad ;-)
is it really worth switching over from launcher pro?
I dont seem to have any issues with mine, I customised the screen sliding and app drawer speeds so its very smooth and responsive.
does this new adw app improve battery time at all??
Just had a play about with it. Was using ADW.Launcher before this. Got to say i really like this. Took 5-10 mins to figure out where the options were located, as they differ from the original ADW.Launcher.
The amount of customization options available are amazing.
I also like the new text effect on the Desktop shortcuts (Seem a little bolder) This can also be changed, as can the Icon sizes
All in all, looks great. Looking forward to future updates

What is the best alternate launcher for the G2X?

Now that I finally got my G2X updated to GB I was wondering what alternate launchers, if any, people are using and how they like them. The stock launcher is nice but lacks customization features such as resizable widgets, changing icons layouts, removing homescreens, etc.
Go launcher
I can't say enough good things about Weapon 2.3 ROM and it's included TouchWiz launcher from Samsung.
If you are running factory GB on your G2x I can assure you The Weapon ROM is every bit as stable as stock if not better, with way better battery life and a bunch of other cool gee whiz features.
LauncherPro. I've been using since May 2010.

Launcher Pro - the widgets can't be beat, especially now with theme and icon pack support. At times I try another launcher, but I always come back to launcher pro for the widgets.
I've yet to find people, bookmarks, and friends widget comparable to launcher pro except sense ui. There are others that mimick the functionality, but they usually slow down the device quite a bit. Launcher Pro remains fast.
I think LP has the best ALL Around setup. The built in Widgets are great and backup/restore will save passwords so you don't always have to login again to Twitter and Facebook.
Unfortunately the developer has been ignoring it for some time and is starting to lack some features. While it JUST got theme support, it doesn't seem to be moving very fast. Very limited. Plus they don't have "whole" theme support so icons and widget themes are separate.
I'm using LP now but going back and forth to Go Launcher. Go Launcher has downloadable widgets that are comparable and cool in their own way. Also "Colorize Widgets" also make a good LP Widget Replacement.
So the 3 main ones are ADW EX, Go Launcher EX, and Launcher Pro.
There are other weird ones like Samsung TouchWiz, LG Launcher, Sony Xperia Launcher, etc.
Honestly just find one that works they way you want. I'm currently using ADW EX on my Asus Transformer because it recently added much needed support and features for tablets (which the others lack). On the G2x either one of the 3.
go launcher.. also has widgets.
but you can add to that with colorize widgets. an awesome pack made by an xda user.
the combination is unbeatable in my opionion.
I've grown quite fond of ADW, myself. Though, I haven't tried LP.
I also used a launcher called Crazy Home, awhile back. On top of having extra home screens, it gives you up to 3 desktops...each with 5 home screens. So, if you REALLY like home screens, you can have up to 15 lol. It also allows you to hide apps in your app drawer. I ended up going with ADW, because I could load my own icons, and use them...CH was a bit more limited.
I'm a huge fan of Zeam. I used it on my old HTC Magic because it was fast fast fast on the old hardware, and I continue to use it on my G2x.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to be trying my first ROM out and that's what I'm leaning towards right now.
To the OP, I love Launcher Pro. So much to customize.
My vote goes for ADW Launcher EX for sheer speed.

Zeam rocks my socks. I use one home screen, a couple widgets and gestures to open my app drawer and notifications. Super fast and simple.

I'll second the TouchWiz launcher. I'm using it standalone with Miui. It looks awesome. I've been a ADW guy since my G1 days and continued using it with the Nexus One and G2X, but I gave TW a try a few weeks ago and haven't looked back.
By far the best is launcher pro
Zeam

[POLL] HTC Sense vs. Launchers

Well i think battery usage is the (almost) first problem of our problems with our phones. Changing launcher might be a little solution for it. Maybe not. I don't know. But I'm pretty sure some of users are bored from Sense UI. Well any suggestions for launchers? Please vote as their battery usage(especially) , customization, best looking etc. specialities.
And sorry for my bad english.
Regards.
im simple i like stock sense, ADW is heavily bloated with stuff(allows you to fully customize but still bloated) i like when ADW came out it was lean mean and simple now it just wild and getting ugly looking honest opinion LauncherPro is simple and light but dev stop supporting he went MIA, GO ex is like ADW
I switched to GO EX three months ago and haven't looked back. I like it better in every way. No more Sense reloading and my battery life is WAY better.

Nova Launcher is great. I'm using it right now. But Rosie is always a backup plan. It's a little slow, but it has great widgets.
Im using now nova laucher, love it! back up launcher is go launcher
I like the sense widgets but launcher pro is pretty solid in my opinion
Another vote for Nova launcher. A very clean launcher indeed!
Sense is my favourite when using Sense ROM's.
On ROM's like CM7 I like the stock Launcher (since it's quick) and LauncherPro.
ADW EX is okay too.
Never been too keen on GoLauncher though although I do like GoSMS.
I'm using apex atm but I've used launcherproplus for ages its the best one for me I left it because it hasn't been updated for ages

+1 here. HTC's has a few things I like, especially the left hand sided shortcut widget, but Go Launcher has so many more useful features I can't go back to anything else.
GO.
like the posters above, I haven't looked back.
seems to be easier on the battery, lighter on ram, way more home screen customization options, and themes up the wazoo.
replaced most of the widgets with 3rd party and they are working even better for me then stock.
tried VTL launcher for a short period of time. great launcher but just wasn't working for me.
heard great things about Nova. can't wait til ota and try that sucker out.
will be interesting to see what HTC does with Sense and ICS...
I've tried tons of launchers, and my two favorites are Go and Sean. For totally opposite reasons. Zeam is light, fast, and basic, but has awesome functionality.
Go is fast, always being updated, and had awesome customizability.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
nova!!! is the way to go
Launcher pro is laggy on Sensation... It's not even close to its smoothness i have seen on Xperia Ray..
Didn't like the fact that I was limited to a 4x4 grid with the Sense launcher, so got Launcher Pro Plus. Haven't seen the need to switch back, it looks really clean. Runs really well with an overclocked kernel.
i like trebuchet its pretty simple but that may be the reason why i havent seen it lag
rosie is pretty tho, i remember the first time i saw it i was drooling but with time you get bored...still dont get how iphones are still selling
lets see how cool rosie gets once sense get facelifted again (like the time when sense 2.1 jumped to 3.0)
I'm currently using the massively bloated spb shell 3d. It looks awesome though.

[Q] What is your favorite launcher for the One X?

Just wondering what launcher you guys use for your HTC One X.
Smoothest / best looking?
I'm currently still just using the stock sense launcher myself...but hear that nova launcher and trebuchet launcher work well.
What would you recommend?
Yea +1 .. I'm new to android and was wondering if using launchers other than stock sense use up more battery? I love the different functions available but am not willing to spare any battery life for it, what do you guys think, I tried apex for a day but was worried about battery life so I uninstalled it
I've always been a launcher pro person but recently was turned onto nova and haven't looked back since. I love it, very simple, smooth and fast. Highly suggest it!

Nova has been flawless for me, check it out. Great customization and very fluid. Much more fluid than the sense launcher.
I'm a fan of apex, and I've never noticed any addition battery drain.

+3. Nova on HTC One X, Motorola Atrix, and ASUS ere pad transformer.

Uh...negligible? In my experience, as long as launcher doesn't do crazy stuff requiring major 3d rendering or has lots of weird animations then battery life is a non-issue.
Apex Launcher fan here. Has been more fun, interesting and I found it to be more smooth and quick then Nova.
Not trying to be dumb, but I am new to android. What do these launchers, apex/nova, do that is so different than what our phones already do? Seems like sense has all of these features already.
and 2, wouldn't this be running on top of sense, meaning two launchers are running at the same time? how does that work and not slow things down?

No, it doesn't run on top of Sense, it runs INSTEAD of Sense. Third party launchers allow you to do things that the stock launcher did not implement, like assigning custom icons, overlapping widgets, creating more/less rows and columns on your homescreen, creating more homescreens than the original allowed (not the case with Sense 4.0...but I remember TouchWiz on my old Captivate only allowed 5 homescreens while Android itself allows up to 7), gesture controls, and plenty of other things.
Above all, third party launchers are updated regularly to fix bugs and add new features. You don't have to wait for all the bueacracy involved with the manufacturer and carrier to get an update pushed to your device.
Apex Launcher Pro. Super smooth. Haven't had a redraw yet.
Hww do I add all the widgets using the Apex/Nova launchers? I don't see all the widgets like the default clock with weather widget? Do I need to root my phone to gain access to these widgets?

You can't use any Sense widgets while using third party launchers. They're baked into Sense.

There are plenty of apps and widgets that mimick the Sense ones. Beautiful Widgets, for example.
I would go for the apex launcher. The customization on it is absolutely amazing. It also looks very close to stock ICS so it will seem like it is Sense-less.
Over the last week I've pretty much tried them all and kept coming back to go Launcher.

Live Wallpaper Lag

What's up guys...I'm on eos 3 wingray with eos kernel, running great
My question is: Does anyone else experience stock launcher lag on their xoom when they use basically any live wallpaper??
no matter which one I use, it seems to lag swiping screens on the launcher. I have a couple beautiful widgets, calendar, and greader widget, with a good amount of icons spread around.
My xoom is pretty damn fast, blazing from app to app. But god almighty if I try to swipe from 1 homescreen to another, it chugs and chugs on its way.
Anyone have any input or advice? Thanks

Yeah, I experience launcher lag a lot on my own Wingray with Eos 3 155. From my own experience, the less widgets and things on your launcher, the less laggy it is.You could overclock it (If you haven't already) at the cost of battery life. I also installed this app (http)://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032 (Delete parentheses) and it worked wonders! Reduced lag significantly if you set it to Aggressive. :good: You could always experiment with alternative launchers (ADW, Nova, Apex, etc) and tweak it to be butterly smooth. Other then that, I can't advise you much further.

One of the things that's so frustrating is that I'm OC'ed to like 1400 with all my apps BLAZING through everything but swiping on a homescreen causes massive lag.
Thanks for the tips, dude. I just installed and enabled Seeder 2.0...hopefully it will help
Does anybody NOT experience issues like this? I have such a basic live wallpaper set and its still so slow swiping to my other screens
