Any chance anyone can make a modified htc phone.apk with settings to block numbers?

If no one can find something for you, you can log into verizonwireless and set some controls that will block up to 5 numbers for a few months at a time. If you get the subscription, it'll lock them out forever, but if not, you just redo the number blocks every month or so.
login, go to safeguards, then call blocking.
Thank you for the suggestion but I'm on a business phone which means its more difficult to block a number through verizon. Besides, I want to be able to block someone for a few hours and easily unblock if I fight with parents or girlfriend

None of the blocking apps on the market work well because they don't respond until the phone.apk responds. Not quick or efficient enough

Call Guard
if you can root your phone you can try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
The
only way is to root your phone then there is a app that will do what you want but other than that the phone stock wont let any app mess with that part of the phone.cm7 has a blocker in itself that can do it, but then again you need to be rooted.
What about running calls thru google voice.
Spam from Individual Callers
If you get unwanted calls, you can choose to send the caller directly to voicemail, treat all calls from a particular number as spam, or block the caller. Follow these steps:
http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115089
Almost all of the 2.1/3.0 ROM's have the capability to add and remove people from the blocked caller list. Don't think those dialers will work on Skyraider but you can try

Save their number and then in phonebook you can set it to send directly to voicemail.
Don't know about texts though.

use SPC (Super Private Conversation)
its perfect application for u bro,
download it from market
just put SPC in market search...
I use Mr. Number, it works great. Instead of voice mail you can have it pickup and hang up. I don't think my screen even lights up when a blocked call comes in. Its "suspected spam" feature works great. If you install it now, you can view the call list from inside and ads those number you want blocked.
They updated it so now you can subscribe and get instant caller id info and it tells you the last time that number called, as they're calling, that is if they're not blocked. Also, you can block the texts from the blocked numbers if set in options. Try it out, you'll like it.

What do you use???
What is the best call blocking app. I need to block unknown numbers and stupid telemarketing call. I also need it to log all call not just block them.
Paid and free one's.
I have not rooted my phone yet.

I use an app called Mr. Number. It logs all calls that are made to your phone, and there are various options. I have mine set to allow all calls from anyone in my contacts list. All other calls automatically go to voicemail, and I always have the option to go back and add a previously blocked number to the whitelist. There are other options/things that the app can do, but that's mainly what I use it for.
Because of that, I am only using the free version.
just place the number in your contacts & if you can send them directly to voicemail from there & it won't ring your phone.
just go to teh contact, click menu then click "options" then click the checkbox next to "incoming calls"
that is how I do it. Sure it fills my contact list more, but its the easiest way to not having my phone ring
Root call blocker if you never want it to get sent to your phone at all. Its the only one that does that. All the rest just send to voicemail.

+1 for Mr. Number. Worked great for me.
I've been wanting to use a call blocking app, but how bad does it affect the battery life?
Just use the reject slider, "is da best"
G2X
I use call blocker gold. It has many options but not one call blocker I have seen does what CM7 does built-in and that's send the call to an infinite loop of ringing. There is a Phone.apk and Contacts.apk for Froyo in the HD2 Android section that does this.
Personally, I would rather send a not wanted caller to an infinite ring than to my voicemail. Hopefully, it will be incorporated to the new ROM's coming out.
If you are getting telemarketer calls, get on the do not call list....it's that simple. Anything else...Mr. Number. Just know it doesn't block the calls--that's impossible to do from the handset. It picks up and then hangs up the call.
Call Blocker
Been using Easy Filter. Works great, logs calls rejected and real easy to add numbers to block list. Gives you several options on how to handle blocked calls as well.
I should of said this before, I needed a feature like black list option from my G1 with Cy rom.

Afaik, the only way to do that is by modifying phone.apk and contacts.apk. I am pretty sure the blacklist option is already incorporated in current cm7 roms for the g2x.

Is there an option to send it to an endless ring? Are there any call blockers that can do that? Or any call blockers that will forward the call to a number of your choice?

Cm7 blacklist
Yep, the two best ones are made by the same company:
Root Call Blocker (for general use):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Call Master (for advanced users):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
These are the only blockers that completely block everything without turning the screen on. Need to be rooted though.

I kept getting calls from a particular advertiser, and after asking several times for them to stop, I blocked their number on my skyrocket.
But now their number is at the top of my contact list. How do I remove it from the contact list without unblocking it?
It seems that it might have to be listed in the contacts in order for the phone to recognize the number to block if they call in the future.
Complete guess, but I think a reasonable guess...
You are probably right. I wonder if there's a way to filter my contact list so that blocked numbers aren't seen. I'll have to check the market for an app. Thanks.
PS -- Cool screen name. Nice to see another Texan on the forum.
I created a contact named "Blocked Telemarketers" and put any sales call numbers under that contact. I also added it to the blacklist and auto reject list. No more rings, no missed call notifications either.
I use call master.

Yep sounds like call master. I like the kill feature. It doesn't even ring for people trying to call. Tricks them into thinking not a valid nimber- can't leave voicemail

So I don't know about you guys but more recently, I've been getting a TON of unwanted soliciation mostly surrounding credit card consolidation. According to VZW (good 'ol #611), our TBs have a native function to block #s in our Call History. I've never known this before and using BAMF SOAB I couldn't find it. Anyone know of other ways?
I've never checked into a native function, but if you use google voice you can set up any number to go directly to voicemail, completely block them and setup custom voicemail greetings on a per person basis. It has a lot of nice options and those are all free. You also might want to get your phone number on the do not call registry if it's not already at https://www.donotcall.gov/

Yeah thanks man, I registered some years ago but it isn't stopping these guys. The problem is they're calling from different #s, all of which are unreturnable too. GV would be nice but this is my direct #, not my GV.
When you click on Phone ...click on Menu and then go to Blocked Callers you can add them there...a bit time consuming as I cannot get it too add them by long pressing on their info in the call list...
Just reread your post... your running BAMF SOAB...I am still a stock newb not sure if you have that feature still.
Google voice options are tied to your cell number if you go through the setup. I don't even use the assigned google voice number for anything, but i do use the blocking feature and those numbers don't make it to my cell any longer. But if they use a lot of different numbers, i don't know what to suggest.

You have to re-register every year.
FYI - Making telemarketing calls to a cell number is illegal.

The link for filing a complaint with the FCC is on that site as well.
I use an app called Call Control, it allows me to allow calls from contacts only, all others go directly to voice mail.
You may want the paid version, it's well worth it in my opinion.
Have you tried any of the apps from the marketplace? i know they have one called blacklist.

does the Nexus 5 have a native feature to block calls and text w/o having to buy a 3rd party app just like iphone iOS7 now has such feature to block unwanted calls or text. The brief moment that I had my Nexus 5, I spent a lot of time searching for the native feature and I didn't find it, had to download a 3rd party app instead.
No it doesn't.
Download Mr Number.
Free and integrates as far or as little as you prefer.
Thank you guys, I just wanted to confirm if the stock kitKat had a native blocking feature. I assume any 3rd party app always has to be running, contributing to more battery draining.
Yes it does, theres an option to send any contact direct to voicemail. On all my android phones I've never needed a 3rd party app, I just have a single contact i call "SPAM" and add any number to it I want to block. Works perfect. (can't block text however).
Also, how do you do that in iOS7, I never found that option, my wife would love to know...
I have been testing a lot of blocking apps on KitKat ans there is no one compatible...
Hangouts still receive notification ...

^ This. It's the best way I have found to block callers in stock Android, though it's disappointing that you can't simply tap/hold on a call in history and mark it as "blocked" like you can with most Android skins.

No app required!
Open the app "PEOPLE", Click on the contact you wish to block, open menu, select "All calls to voicemail"
And what about text messages ?

I notice this thread mentions blocking calls...
What is not to understand about the question? People want to block calls. Not dump them to voicemail. Cyanogenmod has (had?) a blacklist. This allowed one to either add numbers or even wild card numbers in addition to holding the hang up button when disconnecting the call. Subsequently, when one of the added parties tried to call, they were meet with one ring, after which the call appeared to be disconnected or broken in some way. Why is it so difficult for T-Mobile, Google, LG, HTC, Verizon, etc, to implement this as a standard feature?
If you don't have root you can silence the ringtone at the start of the call. Try http://cond.im
