its possible to assign it to another hardware key like search, i posted a thread on it and what to do here in the general. But you can already use it to take you to apps you just have to jump to them. (Jump+S = Messaging app) and you can change what letter take you to what app in settings

Try going to settings/manage applications/chompsms/and scroll down and find the clear defaults button. If you ever need to reset a button assignment, this is how you do it.
Thank you

Multitasking bar for cm9

Does anyone know if u are able to reprogram the search button as multitasking? If not is anyone here capable and willing to reprogram it for some of us who I'll use it because I rarely touch the search button. Anyone else would like this except for me? Btw I'm running eagesblood, Thanks in advance
I second that request. That'd be way more useful than the search button
Do you mean the recently used/running task list? That's accessed by pressing home one the first home screen.

I would love this. Seem to remember CM7 having custom application launching for touch and hold search button so it might be a feature that just hasn't been implemented yet.
I have seen customizable keyboard modifications for devices with physical keyboards in order to remap some of the less useful keys to something worth while. When I have more time I may try to dig it up and see how complicated it is. Anyone care to tackle this? I probably don't have the knowledge to complete.

I know u can long press home but that is time consuming sort of in a way and I get annoyed by doing it.

You can customize the home key in cm9 like you can customize the search key in cm7. You need to install Apex launcher. It have a lot of features you would like. This launcher do everything like cm7. Try it out.

Can you just remap it with Button remapper or Tasker?

Button remapper won't work because it doesn't remap the long press stuff like multitasking.

Dock Keyboard Mapping

Hi everybody, I'd like to know if there's a way to map the buttons of the dock.
I would like to change the "search" button of the phisical keyboard and let it open the recent app.
Is it possible?
Thank you in advance!

Ok so after some search I've found out that the easiest way to have something similar is to modify /system/usr/keylayout/asusec.kl using root explorer or similar.
If you modify the 'key 217' with 'APP_SWITCH' command and reboot you'll have the option to bring the app switcher and not the recent used app.
Still better then a useless key to me.
Check that your 'key 217' is now binded with the SEARCH command before modify it! If not search your number
Cheers

Scratch that, I'm a moron and didn't mount as r/w. I'm assuming though that there's no known way to map the hc/ics task switcher from the soft key?

[Q] Gameboid on screen control problem

Anyone else have a problem when using gameboid and multitapping the controls on screen? Cause I cant seem to run on pokemon in straight line. It makes my character run in different directions other than the one I press.

I use gameboid, and sometimes(not often) i have that problem when tapping to different buttons at the same time(x10 has crappy dualtouch)
What you can do is map the (b) button to the back key on the x10 so that you can run without problems
Theres a key mapping option in the settings so that you can map other virtual buttons to hardware keys
