i'm using samsung omnia 16GB with WM6.2. my phone main memory is 94.2mb for STORAGE & 96.26mb for PROGRAM.Both are almost fully used up.i have a lot of programs installed & i can't install anymore programs due to insufficient space.I've been looking for an application that can allow me to install programs on my 16GB storage instead of phone main memory.I'm hoping someone here can help me out.I've been searching & all i could find was ram cleaners.
SKTools will allow you move installed program data to My Storage.
I only have 1 app on device memory all the rest have been installed to My Storage.
good day.

Last week I posted about memory storage v programme. After getting v confused about it i uninstalled some apps from the device and instead loaded them to memory card (was this right or wrong?). That left me with 12Mb of storage memory free, I figured that was fine and so left it at that.
This week my device reported critical memory space - storage memory down to 0.12Mb!!!
I have un installed several more apps which I like and use to get to 3.55Mb of storage memory available, but even this is dropping and I dont know why.
Q have I got a virus? How can I tell?
Q Can I tell what is taking up space in memory? If yes how? please dont direct me to the "find" large files as all it shows me is stuff on the storage card.
Q If I install programs to the storage card, do they still take up room in storage memory? If so what benefit do I get from installing to MC?
All help greatly appreciated
Pete
No such thing as a WM virus. Chances are a lot better IE cache ate it all. Try deleting cache files thru IE's menu.
You gain memory by installing to a memory card but if the card comes loose, pops out, you forget it, etc, you're suddenly without your apps. I don't install anything to the card and generally have no problem. You might want to do a search on how to put your IE cache onto the card, tho. That'll solve a lot more problems than installing apps there will.
Try TreeSize
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-treesize-v1-00-03.html
This allows you to check the memory in use on your device.
there are a few known wm virus's but never heard about anybody getting one
think they were just made to show it could be don
the market of mw phones / pda's is much too small still for virus's to find their way to devices
When I go to File Manager - System info, I see the following information:
Storage memory: 17.95MB
Used: 14.83MB
Free: 3.12MB
Program memory: 44.70MB
Used: 27.78MB
Free: 16.92MB
Does this mean that when I install programs, I can only use 16.92MB? And that above 3.12MB is used only for storing documents, music, etc?
Also, if I install program on a storage card, will any of the phone memory be used for saving some application specific data for this application?
How much memory does phone need to operate properly? And can it use Storage memory for its operations, or only program memory?
thanks,
Goran
Memory
Goran,
Storage memory is the built-in memory, it's used for storing anything at all. If you have only 3Mb left that's too little. If you use Internet Explorer often, you'll soon be getting messages like 'Your free space is running low'. Try installing to the SD card as many programs as you can except those that need to be installed in the main memory (e.g. WM5torage).
And 'Program memory' is the same as RAM on a desktop PC. It's used for running programs. 17Mb free says that some programs are running in the background. Immediately after reboot you should have around 27-30Mb free.
Thanks, George, I got it now. After installing WM6 tings now look better.
Hi.
I've been using Windows Mobile for about 10 months now, and have been very happy with it and blah blah blah...
One thing that I really don't understand, is the memory "settings" page.
It shows storage and program memory, as well as a seperate tab for my storage card. Could someone please explain to me what the storage memory and program memory are? I know they're both my internal memory (as in, not my SD card), but don't get why there's 2! I would have thought it makes more sense to just have a value for the "fixed" memory, and a value for removable memory.
Thanks in advance guys & gals.
John.
Storage memory is like the HDD on your PC, it's the where you store the data.
Program memory is the RAM, where the programs are loaded to run.
Thanks syqe - that makes sense. Typical Microsoft to call something we're all 100% familiar with by a different name!
It also makes me happy because it means I've got shedloads of space left on my internal drive
Thanks again.
Storage Memory is the memory on your device which is available for installation of new applications/data.
Program memory is somewhat like the RAM on your PC. when you run an application from your Storage Memory, it loads to your Program Memory to run, just like on PC, when you run an application and it loads to your RAM.
Storage Card memory is the memory on your storage card.
Now the question is how to get things off of your storage memory and onto your high capicity microSD card?
Also, how do you manage your Ram aside from the simple task managers on windows mobile phones? Is there a more advanced task manager that will show you what the hogs are and let you determine if they are worth it?

Click to collapse
The best for that is SKTools... there is also dotfred task manager (this 1 is free) but I'd rather pay 30 bucks for SKTools.
I am looking for an app that will list all my installed applications along with how much storage memory each application takes up (and whether it is installed in the phone memory or on the storage card).
Hi all here. I have a Samsung Omnia i8000 Icon running on Windows Mobile 6.1. This phone as defualt comes with 8GB memory plus I have added another 8GB MicroSD card to it boosting it to 16GB which is ample of RAM for what I need it for.
Recently I have been having probs with it and it keeps coming up with an error saying " Storage memory is critically low. If the storage memory is not increased, other progranms may not be able to start, use File Explorer to delete files that are no longer needed or move some files to the storage card:.
Now I also know when I ever download a software/file etc etc from the net, it goes into a download folder (by default) but I cannot seem to locate this folder, thought I am sure it does exist.
My other question here is when even I install a program and ask it where to install to, eg My Storage or Memory Card, dont know why but it seems to me the program is not installing there by default and keeps installing itself into main memory, can I switch or charge a program that is already installed in the main memory to the My Storage or the Storage Card.
Thanks
