So, in the latest days I was experimenting with TouchWiz, mostly with porting it to mid-sized screens. After many fails with the whole framework porting, I looked for an existing one, and found out Rolle did it for the Nexus One. Played around the APK file, and found out - it works flawless without modifications!
So I collected some widgets, the launcher, some apps (maybe required, maybe not), and deodexed them myself. Currently I am testing them, and I will post all my discoveries just right here.
Until then, here is the partially working TouchWiz Launcher.
Bugs are the following:
- Wrong size menu, last line's bottom is cut
- On the bottom bar, only two icons instead of four - don't know if it is because of old launcher or just the screen size.
- Sometimes it is slow
- Some widgets (simple Search, not google one) is smeared around the screen.
But some features do work:
- The whole TouchWiz Launcher
- Nice and fast and SMALL (only 1.4MB, approx 2MB installed - apk can be transported on a standard floppy disc!)
- All basic features working
- Loads all widgets
Wht about this ?
Link
And when u say widgets, please clarify u mean android widgets, because it sounds like u have the samsung widgets working.
I am talking about Samsung widgets, yes. I don't have them working (yet) but I am trying the best I can do to get them install-run-work. I know, mostly it will need a whole framework porting, and as the G1 has limited space on SYSTEM, it can be only done via symlink and DATA linking, but worth a try
Would be very interested to see this when its done, despite all that touchwiz-hate I think TouchWiz 3 has made major improvements on previous versions
I agree. TouchWiz isn't too amazing, but I wouldn't mind the Samsung widgets, especially Daily Briefing.
nice man please keep up on this. i love all the mini mods android can provide to my phone
Hope you can fix ^^ it's awesome!
Any progress ?

Hey everybody, I have tried to search around and I have found no luck, but does anyone know if they have ported the sense ui and can you load it on the captivate? maybe a dumb question i dunno but i figured i would give it a try.
Not yet. Mostly everyone has been working on the gps issues and lag fixes.
just use Launcher Pro and then find a .apk file for fancy widget (a copy of the clock), it's not sense, but its much snappier than the stock captivate launcher and it has some HTC like widgets in the paid version, I find it very functional ^_^
Ive tried several different launchers including launcher pro but i found that i like adw launcher the best. You can download a sense theme for it from the market. I previously had samset 1.5 & 1.8 installed which includes the clock widget. After i synced to app brain i was able to reinstall it after i flashed a different rom. This is pretty much my ui of choice. It has been running great, plus you can enable horizontal swipe in the app drawer via adw settings which i find to work more smoothly. Hope that might have helped some for the time being.

Thank You! I too have been looking for a version of sense for the Captivate. This does a good job of pulling off the over all look and feel!
Another vote for the paid version of Fancy Widget. Very customizable and can be made to look just like Sense.
Sense UI isn't just a skin or launcher like TouchWiz. It actually replaces a lot of stuff in the ROM and has its own framework. You can't just "add" it to a ROM. It IS the ROM. I don't think you'll have it running on Galaxy S phone anytime soon.

3.HTC usb menu (can be fixed with a script made by dexter, and smali to some jar's)
4.Turning of the device
5.HTC's hibernate mode
6.Lockscreen( pressing power to bring the phone from standby will not get a lockscreen after like 5min, plug the device to usb cable and it should bring the lockscreen up)

i was poking around the evo forum for my friend and discovered miui. if you dont know it is a chinese rom that has been built for many snapdragon htc phones and translated into engrish.
it takes some of the better aspects of the iOS like the visually apealing menu skins and layouts and the thumbnail folder icons, has a dock much like iOS with drag and drop icons and no app drawer that can hold 5 apps.
apparently also has a secondary launcher that can come from the top of the screen presumably when you hit the home button that is like a standard android launcher.
has a unique app drawer that slides halfway down and tumbnails of the home screen pages pop up so you can move multiple apps to multiple screens without the drawer auto closing and a need to reopen for each app.
^this drawer is for widgets there is no app drawer, that can be fixed by putting apps in a folder and putting the folder on the launcher like an iphone.
it still has the android pull down notification bar and apparently has a scolling dock with toggles as well
i would love to see a port and some themes to go along with it. or a launcher/home app with some features borrowed.

some of the theming is a little odd and im alittle unsure if the screen space is enough for some of the features to be practical but it is interesting none the less.
also they have a browser that is apparently not with the rom that is said to be good.

i think the i-9000 guys are working it. i cant code, or dev. i dont like to make requests that i cant contribute to. i was just hoping if people see this then some of our devs might jump in. i think the great aosp work being done will help pave a road for this. but we dont even have a working true aosp rom yet. although designgears did get many aosp apps working in his dev rom.
if we could get some of the features even if we needed a samsung dialer and other apps a hybrid rom would be cool. the widget tray is a great idea. although i like the android app drawer, especially the galaxy s scrolling alphebetical list implementation (i can scan a column pretty good, i cant scan a page very good), this rom has features that i think would be great.
I want it ..
I want. Please.

My layout on my phone, the way I customize it, is the exact same as whats in your ROM description. 3 home pages, no download tab in apps, the ringtones and notification etc... Thats all music to my ears brotha'! Just installed the rom, so far so good. Runs smooth, as to expected since the base rom you use. Would like to know if you have any tweaks coming in next versions?
Keep up the good work!
Edit:
Just noticed the mail app is missing, on purpose?
Google search is missing: using the soft button doesn't work, adding the quick search widget doesn't work either.

Yes I'm using only the Gmail so the stock email app is gone. The search button may not work. As I deleted GoogleQuickSearch, there is no search application. I will look into that and if necessary the app will be back. I never used it so I didn't even notice.
For future releases I'm planning on even more set customization. I started deleting languages. In next release the apex launcher will be english only (or if requested maybe some other languages). I am also waiting for some faster launcher to appear. I like Apex a lot, it reminds me of ADW but with all the customization options it tends to slow down after some time. I was thinking about replacing the stock browser since there are some problems with it but Chrome isn't ready and I don't want to impose any other browser on you guys + 7.5 is on its way and the issues with the browser should be fixed by then.
I would like to ask which battery icon would you guys like me to leave. I deleted all of them which ended up with an error mentioned in the first post. I am willing to bring one back but I need to know which one will be the happiest choice for you. After all I am sharing this so you can be happier Cheers
I would suggest just a percentage (in numbers, nothing flashy)
Thanks for your effort - running smoothly at moment (apart from the problems you've pointed out yourself)
Look forward to next update

Thanks for support but I'm not developing, I'm merely modifying a great ROM to make it lighter to save space and maybe make the ROM run quicker.
It would be nice if you could refresh screenshots. I don't know how rest, but i like to see pictures of rom i am going to flash ;]
Btw. On first look, it seems quite nice.
This ROM looks like a cool idea! I just had a suggestion, I don't know if its in your "philosophy" of the ROM but wouldn't it be better if you left a little more stuff/everything in and let people choose what to keep or remove through Aroma.
For instance you can chose your ringtone at the start and not have extra ones wasting space or some people might want the stock sms and others might just prefer one from the play store.
Just my 2 cents

Hello everyone!
This project is for the Catapult Open Source Launcher or just Catapult for short
What is Catapult you may ask?
It is a launcher that I have started that is currently a port of the stock launcher and CyanogenMod's Trebuchet.
What does it do?
Not much ATM, but with the help of this great community it can do a lot
Currently I am the only developer on this project but I would love to get other devs involved as well. With help we can turn this into one of the most powerful launchers yet
Currently the sources reside at https://github.com/LG-Android-Coding/android_packages_apps_Catapult but if it picks up speed I'll move them to another place.
Please help in this project
Thanks!

I wish for it to be a powerful yet open launcher. The last one similar to this was ADW Launcher and hasn't been updated since 2010
There are many powerful launchers out there, but barely (if any) are open source
I aim to change that. Any feature you want, if you code it, we'll add it
I guess it will be up to us: What will this do that Trebuchet does not do (besides the name translation to English ?
The look is certainly similar (both draw from "stock"). Trebuchet has been ported to cm10, will likely try one lifted off another ROM.
Trebuchet's problem now is fragmentation. For cm9, I have found several downloads, mostly different. Some have properties right on the main properties pane (I prefer this), other have them buried somewhere under system properties (I have never found them), others have none (but honor my desktops). We should have one place, GIT or other download place, for Catapult current version.
Because of the common source and because many of us are using Trebuchet on cm9, it would be a great convenience and boost for Catapult if it honored the pre-existing Trebuchet desktops and settings. To be up and running after flash (or push), not having to fall back to adw, would be great!

Oh god, don't remind me of the ADW CM days...
As for honoring the Trebuchet desktops, I'll look into it. Mainly Catapult is basically a modified Trebuchet right now, but that changes soon (it's a secret what I'm doing )
must wait for secret....

I think ICS launchers (Stock/CM/Apex/Nova/Holo...) look and feel quiet similar. However SGS3 launcher has many advantages eg. able to create folders in the appdrawer, sort apps, hide apps... I like it very much. If we can have these plus themes, this launcher will be the best launcher.

Actually what i really would like to see here is speed, Im about to flash your CM10 and we both know the P500 is fairly underpowered but a very good work horse when it comes down to it. Theming should also be up there as a priority. Im gonna download the source and scratch around a little, if i get a theming solution, i will push it back to git. Simple things like frame/border colours, icons for now
If you get a working theme solution I will love you forever and ever

This may end up a new thread if some Dev takes the -- multitasking launchers for small displays:
1. Tiled, side by side a la note 2. Resizing so do in paranoid.
2. Cascaded -- first one still relevant and maybe best: web OS, now open source. Resizing so for paranoid.
3. Pulse! This reader has elegant and usable interface. Can see a whole launcher based on this. But less radical and quite relevant here: the bottom program bar becomes slide-able and includes icons or thumbnails of active apps. Select or slide between as in pulse.

Did some searching around. There is a window-managing launcher around--looks like it runs its own utilities, though, browsers, editors and such. Probably no way to do this with regular apps without paranoid?

There are several sliding taskbars around but from what I read of their descriptions, they are more customizable app-drawer subsets rather than task switchers. They also waste screen space with another taskbar--what I have in mind would use the regular one.
I think I'm just gonna let this die. No public interest at all. Might develop it on my own and if it gets good enough I might actually release it.

Facebook Lockscreen
I actually found this activity on accident while developing my Launcher for the HTC M8 and figured i'd make a small app out of it.
Set Facebook Lock is a small application that allows a backdoor to use the Facebook Home's lockscreen without the need of the actual Home application and allows any device to use it bypassing Facebook's device detection. (I do not actually know if it works for all devices but worth a shot)

- Make arrows on top bar smaller and plain should blend better with material ui... It seems a bit off to my eyes.
- Make refresh button movable and excludable (is that even a word?) like Facebook chat heads, because it gets in the way,and going to menu and enabling/disabling it is a bit troublesome, therefore moving it somewhere else as needed seems easier... You could even make it hide like halo from paranoid

Il take this into consideration! This is what i like to here.
I agree on icons as basically their place holders for now, need to make it more material like. Need to make a material style for kitkat users. Floating Action Button was an experimental thing. I didnt know how people would react to it at first but its one of the things that make this webapp unique.

Cool! I quite like the floating refresh button, if you make it movable, it would be perfect!
Maybe add a full screen option?
That's very good work mate! I also use your launcher
This app is amazing, I'm really hate the official Facebook app and Fellow is perfect for me.
Just a few kilobytes, and a million times better than the official app, great work!
The only thing that bothers me is the loading bar (Image at attachments), If you can place it a little higher it will be awesome.
That was bothering me as well over few days after using it lol. Il surely look into it.
Great, hope you will fix it soon.
I left a review at the Play Store (Free version), look into it
Gonna be working on an update soon and taking everyone's feedback into consideration. I will be adding a more material feel to this as well as transparency options for kitkat+ users.
