[SOLVED]Skype Mobile > new Skype is out

Hi guys... As you can see in this article:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/skype-mobile-for-verizon-on-android-hands-on-with-wifi-off/
Skype has been released... BUT FOR VERIZON CUSTOMERS ONLY!
But don't worry.. there is a way to get it, just download Market Enabler and set a custom value "310012" < for Verizon.
Then you will be able to download Skype Mobile but if you start it you are going to get the message "Sorry Skype couldn't detect your phone number" and will quit...
I'm sure there is a way to bypass this too... the question is how ?

I noticed one thing interesting, on my Droid I have the leaked sbf aka 2.1 build ese53 and it shows up under Market Enabler as "310004" and Skype as well as the various Fios apps are not available to me in the market. Whats funny though is I still have the Verizon tab on my Market and a few Verizon apps are listed such as vcast media manager and vzw tones.
Does anyone have a direct link to the apk for Skype?

I can upload the apk when I'm back at home after few hours.
I wonder from where/which value is Skype trying to get the phone number...

Any chance editing this or another xml might help it connect?

Us 'three' users on 2.1 maybe able to edit the dial out number and be able to have the app working properly. As the 'skype on 3 beta' only works on 1.5 hero roms.

I subbed to this thread because all android users need a decent skype app.

I have Verizon and this app is fail. You would want to use Fring anyways. You cant use the internet or anything using the skype app because it uses voice and you cant use wifi. Use fring and you can use all these things

Hey, I have the XV6900 and 3g (no wifi) with verizon. I should be able to use this no problem right? Fring has been an issue in the past, not installing properly or not functioning at all. Is that the most up to date skype out there for testing? I would like to be able to use it over the 3g as verizon specified.

Yes it works now as they released an updated version when they started selling the new samsung. If you check the other skype threads you'll see the whole story.
Also my post was before they released 0.10.0.4 so that was the case back then.
But because 'skype on 3' doesn't really work on any other network (apart from verizon's version) i left discussing that further out of this thread.

All Android users have it. It's called Fring.

Fring is working great with Skype, but still - too much overhead. I'd like to get this application working too.

Thanks for the .apk, surprised the Vibrant isn't supported even though the Captivate is. Yes you need to have U-Verse service as well as the U300 package or above to take advantage fully of the app (thankfully I am)

Just use it for the DVR management, definitely worth it. You can use the channel guide or search by time and even future dates. Much better than the mobile website. That alone is worth the download.
If you search the actual available content to watch it is all older programming and select channels. This is not a "slingbox" replacement app by any means. All the U300 package will give you with this app is the ability to download and watch certain older programming. Sorry should have clarified my above post.

First, put the apk file on your phones sd card. Go to market and download "appInstaller". Then open appInstaller, find your uverse apk, and click install.
*I use appInstaller by gregory house.

U-Verse on Droid
Hi there. I installed the U-verse mobile app on my Verizon Droid. (Thanks for that!) It seems to work fine until I attempt to download shows to my phone from the 'Show Library.' I get a message saying it can't be done because of system issues. Has anybody else had success downloading shows? Or does my not being on AT&T's actual network prevent me from doing it?

Can't say for sure that it is from not being on AT&T's network but it looks to be that way. I can't download and watch shows on my EVO. I said all along that when they finally did release an Android App it would probably only be compatible with AT&T android phones. the bastards!

Had the same problem. Make sure you are on WiFI and then try it a few times. It will eventually work. Im running original droid as well.

jim, I've tried it with Wi-Fi and 3G, both ways get me this message "Cannot Subscribe. Thank you for your interest. Subscription cannot be completed at this time due to system issues. Please try again later."
This happens when I click Agree to Terms of Service, and the denial message appears instantaneously, as if it's a built in denial that shows before a connection is even attempted.
Maybe there is a setting on my phone I don't know about?

Question:
When I install the app, one of the things it asks for is permission to call phone numbers. I can understand why it asks for other permissions, like changing network connectivity (downloading shows only over wifi).... but I can't figure out what the app does that needs phone call permissions. Does anybody have any insight on this?
Btw, the app works great on my phone. Can't download shows, as I only have U200. For those who have previously posted about not being able to install the app on your phone, the user guide says it works on android 2.1 and higher, for phones on the list. (I didn't see a list, though).

Works on the vibrant after hours of trial and error.not much to download and watch though.

The Framerate that it records at. Framerates I put in are 24, 30 and 40. Set it in the Shootme settings.

Thanks for the link but it wont install.
Rooted EVO4g Evolved Rom.
It downloads, acts as if its installing and then ends in 'not installed'.
The market no longer carries the stock Shootme. Any help appreciated.

I am rooted (and unlocked) and the superuser request pops up and I've allowed it
It says "Successfully gained root" in the popup but shootme throws a fail in the app telling me to ensure i have root and have granted access to lower-level graphics

I have v0.8.1 on my phone, and for some reason its not working for me either.
Actually, its kinda weird. It worked perfectly fine on my Evo running Froyo before I rooted. Then I rooted a couple weeks ago and flashed CM7.1. Now its saying "Failed to start server. Please check that you have ROOT access...blah blah blah," even though I've granted it Superuser permission. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the like. I know CM7 has built-in screenshot feature, but Shootme is a lot easier when taking multiple/quick screenshots. Anyone have any suggestions of how to fix this, or know of any good alternatives?

I can understand Samsung's motivation to block this. Even though it seems like a somewhat trivial app to this audience, in the marketplace it would be positioned as a differentiator, and you can be confident that at least part of the idea is to blunt the impact of Siri on Samsung sales (and there's no need to debate differences between Siri, S Voice, the eventual advent of Majel, etc - just commenting on today's motivation for Samsung to keep this restricted to S3).
Another possibility: Vlingo has been evolving their product, and if you go to the Play Store you'll find the Vlingo labs version - which is essentially the same as S Voice with a smaller "vocabulary" of functions you can invoke. It really appears that they're gearing up this new version of Vlingo for ALL phones, but my guess is that they have an agreement in place with Samsung to hold off for a while so the S3 can enjoy having this functionality exclusively at first. Also possible that Samsung and Vlingo have a licensing agreement that restricts the phones that the app runs on for some period of time.
I can easily imagine business execs at Samsung and at Vlingo getting more than a bit stressed over this...

Seems to be a few threads going on about this. I'm getting an error when I say post to facebook. It loads a browser window but then goes right back saying check user name password. Everything is logged in on my phone correctly though. Any ideas?

Same problem here, I can't update the facebook status, it opens the window and says the username/password is incorrect..

Doubtful try rebooting, clear data or uninstall reinstall, mine still works. Honestly Vlingo works for all the problems people are posting, I just hate the skin on Vlingo lol. Dear Devs where are you in our time of need!

No problem with the app. I'm running the modded version (posted on one of these S Voice threads) that doesn't require modding build.prop -- works perfectly. I send text messages, emails, check the weather and just posted to FB. Re: FB - I do NOT have the app installed right now (older version ate battery - no idea about 1.9 yet - may try later). Anyway -- I tried it this way: I told S Voice: "update Facebook". It then show the FB login dialog and noted that I had to be logged in so that it could update FB. I filled in username / pswd, and it's been working fine ever since then. Just needed login credentials.
Try just saying "update Facebook" the first time, it should prompt for credentials, and then remember them for future use.
EDIT: also just logged into Twitter the same way -- said, "Tweet" and it prompted me for twitter credentials. Now that it's got them, I'm good to go. Almost too easy!

I actually had a pop-up that said do you want to complete this with Skype, Google Voice or the standard dialler, so I think if you reset permissions you'd be set.

Thanks, Op updated, keep em coming...

This things been around for a while. Idk why its such a bug deal now. LorD ClockaN mentioned something along the lines of you weren't factory reset then... and its quite likely it won't happen unless your browsing some sketchy stuff and I'd have to agree. Though the proper fixes will be added in the milestone release of aospx for this. MR1 of aospx for the glacier can be listed as safe when I build it for us.. likely sometime this week

Exactly, I know if you have Lookout they'd warn you before clicking on this. As I said before, I don't go on sketchy sites so I won't get this. You can't be too sure though.

Alot of people will prefer and still be using GB and older ICS roms (self included)... So they could use this... Plus it doesn't have to be on sketchy sites... It could be incorporated into a harmless ad on any website, and you wouldn't even know...

Yes it COULD be. Just like a car COULD crash into my house this very second by some crackhead. But I'm not too worried about either of them because its not very likely. I'm not saying nor have ever said this information is useless or that taking precautions is dumb. Its just not as big of a deal as some have made it out to be. That being said. Its nice to know you're looking out for your fellow users. This community is great.

Got the IMEI dialog after visiting the page using Synth's aospx BR7 release and stock dialer/browser. But as he stated above this will be fixed in MR1. I don't visit sketchy sites and so I wasn't even aware of this issue before it was announced some days ago. Thanks for making this thread. Looking forward for mr1!
