Can't get auto rotate to lock in landscape - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I like to use my Samsung Vibrant in landscape mode while lying on the couch, so the phone is physically upright, so it stays in portrait mode. How do I lock so it stays in landscape, no matter what the orientation is? All the apps I've tried so far disables auto rotate, but defaults in portrait.
Help!!

Using Gyrator???

I want to use Gyrator to automatically rotate TomTom into landscape mode irrelevant of the phones orientation.
the reason is I use the phone on my motorbike and it sits flat. Also with the cornering it ends up rotating all the time.
How do I do that?
Currently I have a new event called TomTom and the flag is set to 0. No orientation and no Stylus.
MunichWinClass
No Orientation
No Stylus
Actions. Rotate Screen
How do I get it to trigger just on seeing the app and to only lock it into the Landscape position?
Sort of solution
I have adjusted it so it actions on orientation and it only rotates in Landscape. Once rotated it won't rotate back out.
eg
TomTom : 1
MunichWinClass
Landscape
No Stylus settings selected
Actions. Rotate Screen
Would be nice to have it trigger on application startup detect??

[Q] landscape vs portrait

Is it a way to default the display mode to landscape when I lay down the g-tablet? Everytime, when I put it down flat, it change the display mode to portrait.
Also, in some sites (http://www.nytimes.com/), the contrast of the screen is sooooo bad (maybe, just my eyes) in the portrait mode, but it looks great in landscape. Is it a hardware defect or something software can fix?
I use a toggle widget from the market to turn off/on the auto-rotate setting

upgraded to JB, lost screen rotation

really strange. this is not "slow" it's just not happening.
home screen
web browser
pulse
other apps
funny thing was i actually like this for most of my use. but then i started to notice it. the strange thing is sometimes i'll pick it up in portrait mode and unlock and i will get the vertical lock screen.
anyone notice this? am i missing a setting somewhere?
It happened to me the same thing, set with a reboot.
Do you have Auto rotate enabled or disabled? (The block with two arrows around it in the quick settings.)
With auto rotate off it doesn't rotate when unlocked. Picking it up (and unlocking) in portrait mode rotates the screen to portrait mode. The lock screen does rotate.

Auto Rotate Responsiveness

Is anyone having issues with the responsiveness of Auto Rotate?
At times, apps won't rotate according to my phone's orientation.
It feels worse when using split screen where sometimes it works when I rotate the phone to the left, but it won't flip when I rotate to the right.
I have tried shaking the phone after rotating.
Turn the phone upside down and rotate it to the orientation I want. (sometimes it works this way)
Worst experience is when I am using the phone in landscape mode while driving with GPS app, an incoming call will rotate the phone back to the normal position. (I use bluetooth headset to answer call)
After the call, when the GPS apps is back up, it stays portrait position and it won't rotate back to landscape.
It is dangerous for me to rotate the phone again while driving.
Want to know if others experiencing the same.
I don't have this issue when I was using Oneplus One or Mi A1.
Same problem..

Click to collapse
Turn Auto rotate, Portrait, or Landscape mode on or off
Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel.
Look for the screen orientation icon. ...
If the screen is locked in Portrait or Landscape mode and you need to change it, tap the icon (either Portrait or Landscape) so it activates Auto rotate
