[Q] Manual backup of sms/mms - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Could someone please point me in the right direction for valid info regarding manually backing up SMS/MMS info. I am trying to determine if it is possible to manually back up my messages in effort to maintain them without extra system settings that may conflict with whatever ROM I happen to be running.

Look in the market for SMS Backup & Restore app

I use SMS Backup+ that available on Android market. This application backups to and restore from Google account. Very convenient way

Is there a way to keep my text messages when I install another ROM?

I'm sick and tired of loosing my conversations whenever I want to flash a new ROM. I've heard there are ways around that, but I do not know any of them.
Try "SMS Backup & Restore" in the market. It allows you to save all your texts to your SD card and then reload them. And if you have any more questions, please direct them to the Q & A Section - this section is meant for development purposes.
Peace
I use Titanium Backup to backup my both messages and Handcent. When I restore those 2 things everything is back where I can use it for blackmail
I just wish dialer would back up too.

For dialer use Call Logs Backup & Restore, made by the same person who made the aforementioned SMS Backup & Restore.
Here is the SMS Backup/Restore - http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup-restore/com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Call Log Backup/Restore - http://www.appbrain.com/app/call-logs-backup-restore/com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore
I have not tried call log backup, but if it's anything like SMS, then it won't disappoint

not true. i used titanium only backup programs, it didnt save messages for me. i learned that the hard way and lost all my messages.
use message backup to gmail, it saves all messages to ur gmail account under text label

u should definately use titanium backup for this.
sms backup and restore is so slow if u have lots of messages as it restores 1 message at a time.
another vote for SMS Backup & Restore. I use this for my text, my apps are backed up with appbrain (and a few I keep handy with ASTRO backup), and everything else is synced in the land of google.
why not just NAND before flashing. It should save your conversations(sms)...then flash the old rom. It does like that for me.

...what? If you restore a Nandroid you lose all of your current settings/ROM.
SMS Backup+ is great as well.

I use SMS Backup to backup my txt messages to my gmail account. It seems development on this app has ended but a new developer has created an app called SMS Backup+ with the same funcationality as SMS Backup plus the ability to restore the backed up conversations to your phone (though I have not tried this). He is also working on adding the ability to back up your MMS as well.
A second option is to install the latest version of Handcent. One can now create a Handcent account (on their website for free) which allows users to back up their messages and all their Handcent settings.

Titanium Backup & Exchange

I am new to the android world (initially coming from WM)
I backuped everything on my device with Titanium backup and was wondering whether Titanium interferes with Exchange.
If I backup with Titanium and restaore everything, including my Exchange account, contacts, etc... are they going to be duplicated (This was typically the case on WM: restore contacts, etc... input the Exchange account and end up with all contacts, appointments, etc... duplicated after the device synced)
I guess Titanium is better done (Saving system parameters and data properly) but I just want to make sure before I regret it
Same question with SMS/MMS backup from Titanium and possible interference with myIQ (More tricky sicne I am not sure many people are using myIQ...)
Thanks for your help and advice
Don't use with Exchange, but it would shock me if there was an issue. Unless myIQ does some duplicate store for messages )most apps that replace stock SMS use the system SMS store), I can say there are zero issues with restoring these with TiBackup in my experience (and I've done it fairly often).

Titanium backup - how to backup all current apps w/ specific system settings?

hi guys,
These days I'm testing quite a few ROMs and as a consequence have my phone screwed up quite frequently.
Now I have a simple requirement - I want to backup all my current apps + app data as well as some specific system settings (like Bluetooth pairings, SMS messages, Gmail accounts, etc.). I dont want to backup all system settings because that is precisely what gets screwed up between ROMs.
Now, I'm not able to figure out how to achieve this. Now, I created a filter, but that pretty much asks me to choose specific apps - it does not let me do things like all user apps + specific system data.
Could someone help ?
Can you do all the backups, and then, filter when restoring? (I`m new to TB)

SMS Backup App with Advanced Features...I'll take it!

Maybe someone knows which app does this:
Let's say I want an app that will automatically backup SMS of only the contacts I choose.
I'm always flashing new ROMs, restoring nandroid backups, etc. However, with my job I am constantly getting important text messages from my office. I wanna find an app that will allow me to select 3-4 particular contacts who's messages will always be automatically backed up...preferably by cloud. If not, that's not a deal breaker.
Please post the name of any SMS backup apps that you know should have this feature
Thanks!

Restore sms Textra

Hello I have one more 6 Android 9. I have clumsily deleted a conversation in textra. How is it possible to restore messages? My phone is not rooted if I root is it possible or useless that I try this opération ?
Thanks
It might be too late for the conversation you deleted, but download something like SMS Backup & Restore from the Play Store and set it to do daily backups. That way, you can always restore anything you've lost other than what's been texted since the most recent backup. If you root, you can use Titanium Backup for this, too, but it's a little more awkward and you still won't be able to rescue what you've already lost.
You could try opening the OnePlus messaging app and see if the lost conversation is somehow still visible there.
Unless if you have a backup set then it's gone. Textra and all your other SMS apps use the same messaging database so there's no way to recover it without a backup.
Thanks
