[Q] App updates - Captivate General

I have a question about updating market apps.
I have maybe 50 or so apps installed. Some days I have like 8 or 9 updates available. Why do I have to download and install one update at a time. Takes like 20 minutes to do all of them. Why isnt there a feature to "update all" like my iphone had. It seems trivial, but it's a major help after having to update 10 apps at a time every 2-3 days.
Thing is with iphone, their apps are done so much better, there's rarely even updates for them, the update all function is barely needed. With android there's updates almost every day with some apps.

Few things.
1. Froyo is getting the update all button. Its definitely needed, although it takes about 10s to start all the installs for 5 apps, I have no idea how it takes you 20 minutes.
2. As an iPhone developer, the reason why there aren't updates that quickly, is because apple sits there and reviews every single update. Even if you were to submit one, it takes over a week for it to get pushed into the app store. The android market has basically instant updates for developers, so they can send little fixes much quicker.

[Q] Prevent individual apps from showing updates in market?

Recently NYCMate app creators broke ties with their partner and as a result had to roll back to an older (crappier) version of their app. They promise to build it back up, bigger and better, but for the time being I'm happier with the old product.
I'm a big fan of the "Update All" feature in the market, but if I'm not going to update NYCMate, I'm forced to update every app one-by-one like the old days. Is there a way to have the market ignore updates for one app, and still be able to Update All?
This is for the Android market if I didn't make that clear.

App Updates

In a previous thread I posted a question about Voice Search which was eventually resolved once I updated to the latest version. Going thru the apps on my Phone I found the following stock to be older than what is available on the market:
1) Google Maps
2) Facebook
3) Voice Search.
and
AT&T Code Scanner (But the update fails with a message about invalid package sign).
I have auto sync on and background data as well but the update was never shown as available and had to got thru most stock apps and verify I have the latest; have you guys seen something like this? If you haven't, check and update the above apps.
Having same issue
I haven't seen a single app update for last 7~8 days.
I used to have a rooted Evo and it was typical to have 1~2 apps that had updates on a daily basis.
Does AT&T have power to restrict updates?

I got an update to Floating Image today. I think it's just that the popular apps in the Android Market are becoming more mature and stable and don't need as many updates as they used to.
Found the same apps had updates available from Market on my Inspire within the first few days after upgrading (picked up on Feb 13th at local AT&T Store). I figured it was the situation of these apps being installed in the factory, then boxed and shipped to stores before updates were available.

market works... sort of

I am a happy user of TnT Lite 4.24. My only major disappointment is the Market. I get all stars, etc. But several apps I search for are not found, like Skyfire browser.
Is this normal? Is there a way to update it?
Thanks
Mark
Well I'm not sure whats going on, but I have been running TnT lite for 3 1/2 weeks now and no market issue till today. I updated a few apps, applied my skin and screen protector, restarted the tablet, and went to search for something the wife wanted but it wasn't there. Had to do a market fix and everything was fine then the market installed it's own update and had to run the market fix again. all within 30 min.
I'm assuming every time Google updates the market we will be stuck doing market fixes.
Maybe it was just me, not sure though but it was an odd day for the market.

Biggest flaw in the Android software distribution model

Android has a very flexible and dynamic software model but it has one critical flaw.
It is very very common for app updates to break applications and once an app is broken by an update there is no recourse. It has happened to me at least 6 times in the last 2 years.
Here is a typical scenario:
1) You have a great app that works perfectly
2) You get a notification that there is an update to this app ..... you install it
3) The app is now broken after the update either it crashes or it fails to do what it supposed to do.
4) At this point you have absolutely no recourse except email the developer or look for an apk
5) Live without the app you bought sometimes for months
This is not an acceptable situation. The Play Store and developer rules need to be changed so that users can revert to the previous version for at least one month after an update. This is a major flaw and why many people are very afraid to update any app.
The worst example is with HTC phones and Google Navigation. Many HTC One S phones have been unable to run Google Navigation after the 4.1.1 update. This problem has been unresolved for almost 8 months .... that's 8 months without the Navigation app and that's a major function of the phone. If you can revert to a version that works this is not a big issue, but that isn't possible. In the end it was easier to get a new phone than address this issue.

download google play apps excluded by android version

We've got a couple dozen GPS data collectors that are essentially ruggedized android phones. Even though about half of these are less than a year old they are all on Android 7. An app we commonly use is being upgraded and it is now requiring Android 8. I would like to see if at least out newer collectors will be able to run the updated app so we don't have to replace everything. We've got a lot of additional equipment that tied to these collectors so switching will be a major issue.
Is there a way to download an app to Android 7 that been restricted to 8 and above? I don't see anything in the developer options. I would like to test the app on one of the collectors just to see if there's any real problem.
