Captivate hangs then crashes (on multi tasking) - Captivate General

Hi, long time lurker first time poster. I was curious as to the amount of process hanging spiraling into a crash (kernel panic maybe?) I've seen loads of posts discussing power wake up probs and random restarts but this is not that.
First encounter:
Just finished installing an app (nestoid I think) and I wanted to test flight mode. Process seemed to hang I tapped a few times, bam, crash.
Second encounter :
Using google maps, I decided to turn of gps because I am done with maps, process hangs, I tap screen, crash.
I should note I am on samsungs ucjh2. I am rooted, no task killer, curious if this somewhat common to android as I am a first time droid user. Looking for some advice from the old hats as to what logs I can dig through to find my answer or general advice.
Thanks guys.

I take it this is normal given the volume of response, or I just fail at attempting to explain my issue.

[Q] Random Restarts - Completely stock..

Hey guys,
Got my phone about 3 weeks ago, and have been reading and debating on which ROM to install. Throughout this time I downloaded my alarm clock, pandora, Zedge, and smart keyboard pro. All this was done day one.
On Sunday while trying to perform a google search, every time i hit the "go" button the browser closed. After the 5th time i restarted the phone. Then I let it get up and running.. great, used it, no problems. Set the phone down, half hour later or so it restarts all on it's own. Great...
Then monday night, I wake up to the phone restarting again, randomly. The bootup sound woke me up. All of a sudden yesterday, the phone reboots all the f***ing time, like 5 times while I was at work. Last night it did it again. This morning while getting ready for work, again, when I was driving to work, again, walking out of the parking lot to my office, I get a text, read the text, put the phone back in my pocket, restarts again!
Anybody know what the hell is going on? I did a google search and this problem seems rare, but it's happening so f***ing much.
There also appears to be no task manager on this Phone stock, whereas any other phone you can hold the Home button and see a list of all running services. (thanks for that retarded call HTC) So I can't tell whats running, or kill apps/services 1 by 1 to see what helps..
I am taking this phone back to the store today, question is, do I replace it with another Inspire, or a different device...
I would replace it with another inspire because at this point at&t doesnt have an android device with the rom support that the inspire/desire has.

You got a lemon. Get a replacement.
Though I'm not running stock, from what I recall, pressing and holding the home button did pop up the list of tasks. I know it does for me now, running the gingerbread based Rom I'm running atm.
It is also available by pulling down the notification bar.
Like I said, I think you got a bad phone.

I will go make an exchange then..
Thanks!
Also, stock, holding the home button and pulling down taskbar thing shows recently used apps. Not a task manager of any kind.

My understanding of "task manager" type of functionality in Android IS recently used apps. It pops up a list of of the last several things you used. Since Android isn't multi-windowed, that's really all you can do anyway.
If by switching tasks you mean going to another task and having it be in the same state as you left it (ie on the same web page you were looking at in the browser before you switched to another activity), that's dependent on the way you move away from an app... Whether you push the back key (which "closes" down and "resets" the apps state, or if you just push home to select another activity, which keeps the apps state as it exists at the time of switching.
Unless I'm missing something...

By task manager i mean, on my captivate, when I held down the home button I got a list of recently used apps, and a button to go into Task Manager, much like CTRL ALT DEL on a computer, then task manager. It showed a list of all currently running processes, both foreground and background, and the option to stop/close any of the services or apps.

Well, I had a captivate, though it's been awhile, and I had forgotten about that.
You can do essentially the same thing though, there's just not a direct button to go to the manage apps area of settings that has the running apps/services list that you're referring to.
My guess is that it could be by design that this button is absent, as for the most part, as it isn't good practice to be killing apps and services in Android as one would in windows.
Removing that direct path to that level of app management eliminates the temptation for common users to be indiscriminately "closing" stuff when it doesn't work the same way on an Android phone as it does on a desktop OS.
I consider myself a power user, but I rarely go to the list of apps for purposes of termination. It's more of a special occasion, when I suspect an app is misbehaving.

[Q] Deactivate the Search-button?

My search button is flickering, firing itself off in bursts, and I want to completely deactivate it. The flickering was/is apparent in Clockwork recovery --> Key test as well.
It first happened using a 2.3.4 deodexed rom (been using it for a month or so, but all of a sudden it started firing off), then I flashed a CM7 based rom which completely killed the button. I figured it was a hardware issue, but to be sure I flashed an ASOP rom (ZuluZulu) and after a couple of hours of use the search button button started firing off again. Between the periods of bursts, the button is as dead as ever, meaning it's lit, but does not respond (haptic feedback, opening the search app) at all.
Since I don't use the button at all, deactivating it completely would not only resolve the issue but save me the trouble of accidentally hitting it once in a while as well
I've searched a bit and found this answered thread over at Google: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=49e8ca84071d51a4&hl=en

I have a nexus s running 2.3.3 and I will be using it normally and all of a sudden it will start a voice search without reason but, it opens and closes it really fast for as long as it wants. It only stops when I lock the phone and it does it in all my apps. I don't want to have wasted my money on a p.o.s phone just cause i can't stop it from wanting to search. Help it happens all day and more than ten times a day.

Hello again everyone,
Good news -- we've identified the source of this problem which is entirely software based. We're developing a fix which we can deploy with an over-the-air update. I don't have a timeline for when that'll happen yet, but when it's ready I'll let you know.

I don't know if it has anything to do with anything as not even wipe + re/flash different roms changes it though.

[Q] Tapping a recent app opens a different program

At random times when I tap the thumbnail for recent app the wrong app will open up. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?
I'm running the factory ROM and I'm not rooted. I recently did a factory reset and the problem still occurs.
I don't have a solution, but i have also noticed that happening. At first i thought it was my imagination and that i was just absent mindedly hitting the wrong app.

I can confirm the issue. Fortunately it doesn't occur frequently, but it must definitively due to some bug in the touchwiz.
Well, it does happen quite frequently on my device; like 4-5 times a day. This is somewhat frustrating.
It mainly occurs when I frantically switch between apps, hence at the worst possible times... Any help?
(For referencing, as those keywords did not popup in my googling: app switcher, wrong app)
If you wait 1-2 seconds after hitting the switch task button before selecting a task, the bug does not exhibit itself.
Couldn't find any reference about this problem on Google either.
Would love to see it fixed, it's a PITA!
My solution is to press about half a second before releasing, if you press long enough you get up a menu though so somewhere before the app gets a blue frame around to the menu pops up.
Also, I've noticed that it doesn't accure as frequently if at all when using the pen.. But maybe that's just mine, and I don't really like using the pen for such "browsing" so it's not really a solution.

[Q] How do I diagnose this occasional 5 second lag?

I have spent 10 hours searching for the solution, I finally have to just ask.
I have a Galaxy S1, its rooted and flashed with android 4.0 ICS. Its android version 4.0.3, ICS Passion v13.1
Anyways, I very often experience a major lag when waking my phone. I pick it up, the lock screen comes up, but is unresponsive. Sometimes just for 2 seconds, other times it can last up to 10 seconds.
I've leaned my apps down. I've used all sorts of diagnosis apps to try and figure out what's slowing it down with no luck. I recently got Catlog viewer (although don't really know how to use it much, but haven't seen anything obvious on there).
How do I figure this out? I'm used to things like this happening on windows where its simple to just pull up the task manager, see that some program is being a cpu hog or something, and terminating that process. On android however I haven't yet found any way to be able to diagnose what is happening at that point in time.

Strange moto G3 touchscreen response problem

Hi all, I did a search with no luck, so hopefully this is a valid question!
I have a weird problem with my moto G3 2015 and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind reading about and possibly offering some kind of advice if it's not too much trouble.
Every so often, I'd say at least once a day, the screen becomes unusable until I press the power button a couple of times (to turn the screen off and on again). Even when I do this quick fix, the problem comes back very shortly afterwards. It only goes away after 10 minutes or so, or if I get annoyed and put my phone away. I thought this was a hardware issue but don't believe that now due to the following:
1. It is a different problem depending on the app I am using. In facebook, scrolling is no longer smooth, and doesn't continue scrolling if I flick down the feed. It only scrolls down while my finger is actually on the screen. I am also unable to actually 'click' on anything, only scroll. In Brave (my browser) it acts as if I've just double tapped the screen, as in if I move my finger down it zooms in, and if up then it zooms out. In snapchat when watching a friend's story it acts as if I've held down on the screen in order to forward their snap to somebody else, and then it doesn't respond at all to any touch.
2. The 3 buttons at the bottom are always functional no matter what
3. If the problem begins when I'm in an app, if I go to my home screen, I am able to navigate my home screen and app drawer with no problems. It's as if the problem is contained within the apps.
This started a few months ago while I was running the copy of android that the phone came with. I put on lineage OS (lineage-14.1-20170629-nightly-osprey-signed) and pico gapps (open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170629). This seemed to fix the problem for a while but then it started again a week or so in.
The fact that the problem is only happening while I am in the apps, and disappears when I exit out of them makes me think it can't be a hardware issue? I am also no expert with phones or android, but am somewhat experienced in rooting and playing with settings etc. (I'm not sure if it happens in other apps I'm afraid, I can test if need be next time it happens).
Thanks so much for any help, and please let me know if there is any more info I can give you!
P.s. The new ROM is much better than the old one.! The battery definitely drains faster though, but that's a whole other problem

That is actually typical behavior on older devices using as many social media apps as you're using. Especially Facebook and Messenger if you're also using it.
Have you tried booting to recovery and wiping cache when this happens?

Thanks for replying!
When I flashed lineage OS I believe I wiped the cache. I will do it again though to see if it helps.

Yeah, you wipe cache when you flashed, or at least you should have.

Hi there
If the issue was software related, a change of rom should have solved it.
If the issue is kernel related, all users must face the same issue...but that is still not the case.
So This might be an issue with the screen being old. When the power consumption fluctuates, lcd screens can misbehave.
