I was just wondering if we could figure out a way to get Verizon's NFL Mobile App to work. Obviously there will be no redzone or NFL Network because they require VCAST, but the other things should work if there is a way to crack it.
Heres what I have done so far:
1. Changed my SIM Numeric from 310410 (AT&T) to 310004 (Verizon)
2. Searched for the NFL Mobile app on the market and downloaded it.
(note in the terms of conditions it does day that verizon checks your GPS periodically to enforce NFL blackout of games and our GPS's are crippled so that could be one probable cause. There is a way to fake location in the SDK right?)
3. It starts loading for X amount of time and then it just quits.
Before the latest version of the NFL Mobile app people were able to get it working with an older version, but at the the loading screen it prompts you to update the app or exit.

It has been agreed that Apps provided to the device owners by their service provider is considered WAREZ if it is distributed to users who do not own the device it was provided with.
Efforts to make a Verizon supplied app work on non-Verizon hardware is at best a grey area and at worst supporting WAREZ.

Hello,
is it in any way possible to do that? When I install the .apk file, it always "Skype mobile is only for Verizon Wireless user". Does any developer know how to avoid this?
link for the .apk file: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rnwab1
peace
If I understand how the app works correctly, it doesn't use VOIP for the calls but instead just dials an internal Verizon number. Since the app isn't really doing Skype over the data network, it wouldn't work on other networks even if you did manage to install it.
We are going to have to hope that Skype get their act together and release a real VOIP client like the iPhone one at some point
really?
i checked engadget says that it uses data only~
no actually dailing using the air minutes
For me its saying "Skype mobile can only be used on Verzion Wireless Phones."
may be it makes some check in verzion IMEI Database, or just digg out the carrier info on the phone - where market enabler make changes to see paid apps in countries where isn't available
if market enabler can help , let someone check out the info from verzion and enter it on market enabler to see what will happen
The app called "fring" can make Skype calls over 3G.
Nimbuzz is also in market. nimbuzz can make voip calls through 3g and skype as well.
sound quality is really better when you use WiFi.
Does this version of Skype Mobile properly handle group chat?
This is like the sprint apps that would only work on the sprint network(AKA Sprint Hero), people got them to work on other phones by spoffing the phone and what ever other things they did
as the tittle states im looking for the indycar mobile app, you can only find it on the market or have it texted to you but only if you have verizon. I do not so please help
bump... anyone?
Anyone with Verizon please help?

Sprint User - Sucessfully downloaded Indycar App from Market
If you have root, Install Market Enabler: This will allow you to temporarily set your phone to appear as a Verizon phone and download the Indycar App. Just did it and it works.
Description of Market Enabler:
"A SIM Tool application to change the SIM issuer code in the running system (not permanent, will be original after reboot or flight mode)
This application is ad supported, please see my other applications to get a donate key that will remove the ads ;-)
Precondition to use this tool is
- Rooted phone
- su app
- busybox"
Works for download the app but after the app seeks for Verizon network to authenticate.
Yeah, I've got a rooted Cliq that I downloaded the IndyCar App with, but it needs a Verizon data connection to enable the app. I think this is probably a similar check as my girlfriends Evo3D's NASCAR app, which needed a Sprint connection.
1. Any way to fool the app into authenticating?
2. Any way to transfer an authenticated app?
Perhaps someone with a verizon connection could create a backup after it authenticates the first time so that others can restore?
Would that work?

I did this by downloading and running the app on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, then copying the backup to my Transformer Prime (non-Verizon). It bypassed the check, but alerted me that I was running a non-supported device and closed. I looks like not only does it do a network check, but also a device compatibility check. So no-go for me.

Hmm, that stinks. I 'downloaded' the app on my Dad's iPhone. It looks like it was just a web page that added an icon to his home screen. It was originally open in safari, and in the menu, there was an option to add the page to the homescreen. After that it seemed to work like a normal app. On the iPhone, it seems like it was just a link to a webpage.
I wonder how hard it'd be to decompile this thing and take out these checks?
Also, if you want to stream IMS radio from the webpage on an android, it looks like you need to set your useragent to the desktop. The streaming audio didn't work on racecontrol.indycar.com until I did that. I used Dolphin to change the user agent.
I would like to run it on my Galaxy nexus.
Zulucap - any chance you can share your backed-up app with me?
I have a backed up indycar mobile apk that installs gets threw the network check but fails because my device is not supported. If anyone has the knowledge to figure this out I would make it worth their while. Let me know and I can send the back up files.

if you have root change the name in the build.prop. use adb or ROM toolbox pro app, there is a setting called build.prop editor. pm me if it works. i would do this with netflix app back in the day. you have the find the name of the phone the backup came from, and change yours to that. ---this is how devs change the device name when you see a crazy ass phone name ex DARKSIDE Galaxy it is cap sensitive. ex. to get netflix on my nexus i would change Samsung to samsung. hope this helps
Did anyone ever get this to work? Would be nice for the 500!

It's easy enough to get it installed on a non-Verizon phone, but when you open the app, it still complains about not being on a Verizon network. I'm wondering if the initial load has to happen over a Verizon IP connection to "verify" the app. If that's the case, I wonder if you could launch it with a data connection shared via a Verizon hotspot? I guess if it can force the initial connection via the cell radio, this wouldn't work.
To install it on a non-Verizon device, you can go to the webpage play store and push it to your device.

I am trying to find a good tracking app for my phones and tablet that works. This is mainly for if it is stolen or misplaced.
Requirements:
-Must use data connection, NOT SMS!
-Uninstall must be able to be blocked. (System app or Device Admin setting)
-Live tracking, I want to see the phone moving once activated (not like prey where it runs a report then shows you).
-Siren function is nice but not needed.
-Free/cheap (I don't mind one time fees, but monthly fees $10 or under for at least 3 devices)
-Able to turn on GPS if disabled
-Accessible from any PC with internet.
I used to use mobile defense, but it doesn't work with Google Voice. I did how ever like the map that it used.
I currently have prey installed but it has quit working on my devices and I cant stand that it is not live updating maps.
I have tried a quite a few programs, but maybe they have updated to add the functionality that I need.
Device List:
Evo4g CM7 Rooted
Xoom Rooted
LG Optimums S Rooted
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
I live in a country where Google Market does not provide paid apps. (Turkey)
So my Asus Transformer only shows free apps when I go into Market.
I had the same issue on my other Android device (Dell Streak) but that was a device with 3g and gsm features so I was able to access market by the help of app Market Enabler.
This app fakes the GSM provider on the phone.
Now that Asus Transformer is a wifi-only model this method does not work.
How does a wifi-only device defines the country of the device ?
Also, myLibrary does not provide buying books featue , just the free ones are available.
How can I enable access to Market and book library ?
any ideas please ?
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/
I'll have the same issues when I return home but I'm completely relying on Market Enabler even though there is no SIM.
Did you try the app? I'm running it but I'm in Uk where I can't really test
it.

market enabler does not solve my issues.
after enabling it with a US provider setting, sometimes I can find the app that I'm looking for but the first page in Market always shows "free" apps.
any idea ?
you could try this but I have no idea if it really works.
thank you. but that is totally irrelevent.
it's about the country we live in.
somehow google detects the country and blocks paid apps.
maybe a proxy could solve...
ISP tells them where you're located right.

Market Access
An app called Market Access has been working for me on multiple devices. Apparently it is based on the code from Market Enabler, although I'm not sure of the differences.
amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
However, since I've gotten the new market app, it doesn't work right away. I think the server takes a while to refresh before it recognizes the hack. Try enabling the "emulate on boot" and "show notification" options in the app AFTER selecting a SIM to emulate. Then go into Settings > Applications > Running Services and stop the "Google services" app. Then restart your device. If it doesn't work right away then give it a day and see if it works itself out.
ALTERNATE METHOD:
Of course there is always the classic method of putting your device into airplane mode and jumping on the wifi. That little trick works here in the States, but I'd be interested if it worked abroad as well. Let me know if it works for you.
Hi,
I am interested in that alternate method. But I didn't understand it.
What shall I do after putting the device on Airplane mode ?

My apologies, in the US some companies (like AT&T) will limit the apps that their customers can see in the Market. The way around this restriction is to not allow the Market app to access your SIM card info when starting up. Here's how:
1) Turn on airplane mode
2) Turn on wifi (you can enable wifi even with airplane mode on)
3) Launch the Market app...that's it!!
As I said, this works because the market can't tell what network you're on, because airplane mode disconnects your SIM card accessing the network. I don't know if the market looks at the wifi's ISP, so I don't know what effect this will have in other countries. If this doesn't work, maybe using a VPN connected to the US might do the trick, but really I'm just spit-balling at this point.
GOOD LUCK!
but my device (asus eee pad transformer) doesn't even have 3G so your method is meaningless.
my 3g is always disabled
Thanks for Market Access looks promissing. Read thru the guide seems like a cleaned up updated MarketEnabler - good. In Saudi we had a tablet with MarketEnabler able to see paid apps in $.
I'm counting on these tools for my Transformer.
Will hit your thanks button when next on PC...

Oops, you're right. I was thinking of my phone and not the TF, which has access to all the apps for the reason you stated. I imagine this would be the case with using the Market Access app as well.
However, I did notice that when tethering the tablet to my phone, ads where not displayed on webpages because I've installed the AdFree app on my phone. So maybe if you could get unrestricted Market access on an android phone and tether your TF to that, then you could get paid apps on your tablet too.
(ps - again, I'm just thinking out loud. Thanks for keeping me honest. Let me know what you guys find in your trials.)
A friend of mine confirms MarketAccess is working

Market Access didn't work for me.
But I found a workaround with Market Enabler and Market 3.0.27
I've removed my Market and erased data.
Then I've installed Market 3.0.27 after setting the GSM provider with "Market Enabler"
This way I can access paid apps.
hope this helps some one else.
I've had Wifi Kill installed since it came out. I'm also a long time user of Mobile Defense. CM7 Nexus One.
About a month ago, Mobile Defense started flagging Wifi Kill as malware providing the option to uninstall it.
The Mobile Defense site has absolutely no information on the malware component (that I've found).
Anyone know if Wifi Kill is evil beyond it's stated purpose?
No, its not. Many things come up as malware that shouldn't, because of the permissions they require. The wifikill code has been gone through and compiled by many developers...its fine.
Great, thanks. In that case, I'm tired of the Mobile Defense pop up warning and notification. Recommendations for a different phone tracking / remote lock app?
