movies? - Droid X Themes and Apps

anyone know of a good app to convert/rip movies to play on DX?

You dont need to convert anything, just download RockPlayer Armv7 from the Market, its free. It will play WMV, MP4, AVI and more! Awesome app, does divx flawlessly.

I use DVDfab to decrypt my DVD movies to VOB files and Handbrake to encode to MP4. Although DVDfab can do it all Handbrake has much better codec implementation.

[Q] Nexus S Avi Playback

My nexus s isn't playing back AVI videos regardless of what application I use. Is this abnormal or do I just need to get an avi codec somewhere ?
you need rockplayer

I've tried:
Rockplayer
Mvideoplayer
arcMedia
None have worked. Rockplayer began to play a file and then stopped.
Avi is just a container, you need codec support for the video file inside. Try Rockplayer.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not having an luck with Rockplayer either. As stated above when I use rockplayer to open the avi files, it plays a second or two of audio and then quits back to the file select menu. Are you sucessfully using rockplayer to play back avis ?
Yes, you can play avi's depending on what codec was used on the video file inside the avi, an avi file can have any type of video file inside of it; h264, mpg4, divx, etc...
rockplayer probably needs to be updated to work with 2.3 like allot of other software
need to port codecs from galaxy S then we could play anything...with hardware rendering

You do realize VideoLAN will be releasing VLC Player for Android very soon.
Re VPlayer ~ since the dev went Paid only with this App it's caused quite a bit of negativity.
So, whilst waiting for VLC I would also recommend Rockplayer.
I used vplayer on the tablet, and noticed it was struggling with 720p MKVs, while the native video player was coping just perfectly.
Have now discovered mVideoplayer, which does handle MKVs perfectly, and is now my preferred video player.
Anyone tried QQPlayer???
http://android-apps.com/applications/media-video/qqplayer/
Mobile QQ player is one of the best video player application running on Android smartphones that supports all the popular formats of videos on the market, including RMVB, AVI, FLV, MP4, 3GP, MKV, MOV and etc. Its smart core technology auto detects video formats and makes it much easier for you to enjoy smoother, better quality videos with limited resources and smaller screen. Download from the Android Market for free now!
Mplayer was just ported to Android 1.6+. It was on XDA's twitter feed this morning. Haven't tried it yet on the Tab, but it should support pretty much every codec and container out there.
M player feels ok not really happy using it.

I am not able to find good video player which can play 720p mp4 files. I have tired vplayer, rockplayer which does not work for these files. Default player and QPlayer work fine but no audio .
How do i get audio back on default player or Qplayer.
i watch 720p video files that are in the mkv container just fine on the sgs using rock player what are the video and audio codecs inside of the mp4

I have tried rock player but it cant play videos properly. BTW here is the codec details
Video codec:- H.264 / AVC
audio code:- MPEG-4 AAC audio
Google it. To compile it you need the sdk

factory player not play multichannel aac this is true and there are lot of such in typically mp4 container... the other problems is vplayer and rockplayer not use hardware accelerated decoding in native mode so with strong files you will in trouble... more over these I simply don't know that fir the original player seems to need just some correct splitters as seems the decoder is very good for almost everything... maybe core player will play everything with hw decoding... hope...
What´s the best player for dreamdoid? With vplayer de-interlacing does not work very well and i have FCs
tried it but didnt play mkv file, may be the file is bad as nothing else plays it well either.

would recomend mVideoplayer,, it plays my 1080p files, i can get subtitles from mkv files too.

Play internal MKV subtitles [4 options]

Time to report back to xda with the state of MKV Subtitles on android. So far I found 4 players that play mkv + internal subs without external tools:
MoboPlayer
VitalPlayer
QQPlayer
VPlayer
Enjoy =D
so ya, VPlayer recently added support for embedded subtitles... perfect for mkv anime watchers!
ive been using rock player because the others dont work well with 2.3 but subs work for th emost part on it
Does it do internal mkv subs? If it does, perfect, otherwise there is Mkv SubExtractor on market to extract internal subs to a separate file
Do you use a codec with MoboPlayer? Things are choppy with avi files (most are mkv so not a huge deal) but a search in this forum and the greater web is not producing much info on what ARMv7 codec would apply to the Evo.

(Q) Is anyone else having issues with rockplayer and vplayer?

guys for some reason i cannot get either of these media players to play any videos, they both go to open a video, then jump back to the file explorer i started out trying .AVI videos but decided to try .3GP as its a native codec in android, even though the default gallery app can play the .3GP videos, rockplayer and Vplayer cannot anyone else having the same issues or is it just me
Can't help you with those players.
I use mvideo player and that works a treat.

will it play all my .AVI videos? i cant be bothered converting them all to .3GP haha
No it won't
Rockplayer latest version is working perfect for me...
Even with placebo streaming from my pc
Use moboplayer. It'll allow you to watch everything, including mkv files that have subtitles. I use it for anime and movies.
Although, some of my files won't play right if they're mkv in 720p.. the rest are fine

I had loads of issues with Rockplayer and Vplayer. I'm using ArcMedia now, works flawlessly. Plays flv files downloaded from YouTube etc. Also plays srt subtitles.
Moboplayer will also play embedded .ass subs.

AVI is a container, xvid and divx are codecs.... even myvideo.divx is in an AVI container.
OP is seeing a codec issue, just needs a player that supports the codecs he's trying to use.
Rock Player Lite or Mobo Player works fantastic.

+1 for Mobo
speaking of moboplayer.... they have so many codec packs optimized for different chipsets... which one should we use?

ARM7 - but MoboPlayer will install the proper one by himself.
I use Moboplayer, Vplayer and Rockplayer. They all play divx, avi, xvid and the occasional mkv.
