[Q] Missing Icons In Start Menu - Omnia II i920 CDMA

So, I was intrigued by images of the new Titanium Chome of WinMo 6.5 and finally disabled the samsung ui. I also began doing some more common registry tweaks on the device to increase performance. I came across the enable or show windows settings and disable samsung settings in start menu registry edit so being curious I enabled the registry to show windows settings. I'm not sure what exactly happened, maybe because I had the samsung touchwiz interface disabled already and windows settings were up; regardless the icons completely went missing under start menu. This means there is no honeycomb of applications and programs on the device, there is simply just "today" at the top and thats it. The entire start menu screen is completely blank. Now I reversed the registry edit by connecting the phone to a PC registry editor and did a soft reset however it did not revert the settings.
While exploring some start menu customization options i found where the specific icons are located and they all seem to be there with intact rankings, meaning they should show up but for some reason they don't.
The specific edit I did was this:
SHOW WINDOWS SETTINGS IN START MENU
Open any registry editor, go to path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\
Value 'HideSettings' Set to '0'.. and soft-reset...
When it all comes down to it yes I could do a hard reset; however that would mean I have to reinstall all my programs and data which is a huge pain. I want to avoid this procedure. I'm guessing that there is probably another registry key overriding the icons and programs from showing however I have not found it poking around.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or by some chance have an idea on how to restore my start menu icons?:

Hi,
hope it's not to late yet, hope you didn't hard reset yet.
Your problem is the so-called "permdir-problem". It's a problem of language settings. I'll show you how to solve this. Here's the solution :
1) you must go to the file \windows\initflashfiles.dat .
2)Attribute it to Word (select initflashfiles.dat > hold > select 'properties' from the context-menu > select the 'associate'-tab > select the program \windows\pword.exe > ok - all .dat files willfrom now on open in Word when double-clicked. To undo: remove association with Word of any dat-file in associate-tab)
3)open initflashfiles.dat in Word.
4) find:
; Start Menu contents
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Programs")
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Settings")
Click to collapse
5) Read the name in the second line. Here it says "settings". Sometimes this has been changed into another language: paramètres, instellingen, ...
6) create a new folder in \windows\startmenu with the name you read in the second line.
7) set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\'HideSettings' to '0'
8) give it a try and click on the start-icon.

shortcuts in today screen

hello all
how do i create in the bottom today screen that do the following shortcuts:
1. one the takes me directly start->settings->connections->connetions icon-advanced tap ->select network button (a shortcut the does half the steps is ok if its too hard.
2. one that takes you directly to the running programs in memory.
3. one thats can change the current proxy without manually reintering it every time (i switch between 4 differnt proxies all the time.
4. one that enables and disables wifi.
1 & 2, google for "How to create your own shortcuts to Settings". duh.
1 google for 'ppc control panel shortcuts' and 'phm power toys'
2 ditto
4 vijay555 made one. check his site
For 3. Use a mortscript and change the relevant registry settings to toggle between your various proxies.
V
have you thought about adding the first two to the start menu? it might be easier to use the running progs that way
@vijay555
i am a complete noob can you post a link or elaborate ferther
@bbobeckyj
how do i make the sortcut in the start menu?
thanks all
there's a thread in the general forum with examples of mortscript
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289197
it certainly doesn't look easy or simple to me though.
to add to the start menu, use file explorer, go to /windows/start menu/ in here you can add 7 items (excluding the programs and settings folder) (you can also add another folder, eg for your favourite progs, etc) just copy a link from the main windows folder list or from the ppc control panel applets.
you can simply add running programs to a hardware button the standard way - settings - buttons - and select memory
I used a great little program called SK shortcut manager (google it) and then used the O2 plus plugin to create large shortcut buttons at the bottom... have a shortcut to my backlight and one to my wireless manager and wifi settings...

Start Menu\Settings is empty or can't view?

My goal is ultimately to add a few more icons to my today screen.
I am using "Device Status" as my launcher, and "Shortcut Creator" to associate/attach specific icons to .exe programs which I have created shortcuts for.
-
Anyhow, I'm trying to add a few more icons such as "Power" and "Screen" to my Today Screen Icons.
Power settings and Screen settings are accessed via the WM6 Start Menu, then going to settings, in order to adjust the power settings or screen brightness.
-
When going into file explorer and going Windows\Start Menu\Programs...there are a bunch of .exe's, but when navigating to Windows\Start Menu\Settings the folder is empty, or all items seem to be hidden. I've tried navigating to that folder with Shortcut Creator and with Total Commander, but the folder still seems to either have completely hidden/nonaccessible items, or I'm missing something... any ideas?
WM6.1
CE OS 5.2.19202 (Build 19202.1.0.0)
Samsung SCH-i760
PDA: S:i760.07 V.BJ10.19202
Phone: S:i760.07 V.BJ10
Eboot: 02.00
H/W Version H:i760.07 V.Q
yeah those files are part of os and aren't visible/accessible from that location. however every program must be somewhere in the windows directory (just like on pc) so you can just create a shortcut to the programs file.
in the kaiser the "power" menu under settings is controlled by "Powerexe.exe" path for this is \Windows\Powerexe.exe.
they are located in htc-setttings.exe that folder is for you to add things to the setting menu

i see a htcsettings.dll in my windows folder but don't see a htc-settings.exe ... (i am still looking for something to allow access to the screen settings). Where is this file? or is this available when you are cooking the rom?
its rom dependant i guess, there used to be a file called "control.exe" you could use to open the setting folder but i can't seem to find it anywhere.....
i did find a post that refrences it though so i'm not crazy

How to change path for Settings in Start Menu

I was messing with the registry and could not figure this out. I got as far as finding where the settings program launcher is....
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
Here we can add programs to the launcher and I beleive if I can add the .exe to WM All Settings page it would be great. I can't find such a file though. This is where I need help unless I'm completely wrong here. This would allow to add an All settings Tab to be added in the Launcher.
Or
If you go to HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\3 Changing things there should work. Would ony changing the path work? I just need to know where the .exe for the Settings page is.
It just frustrates me that I have to go to the Settings tab then All settings.
Thanks for any and all help. I am trying to learn here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: This maybe more difficult than I think. But I did figure out how to unloch the locked items and also to move them so they are at the bottom.
To Unlock go to
- HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
-Select one of the keys numbered 0-23 (a number for each of the slots. The locked items are numbers 0-3 and are ordered on the list going left to right/top to bottom)
- Just change the DWord value from 1 to 0 and you can now remove these if you wish.
- You can do the reverse to lock any other program in place. Click on it an set the value from 0 to 1.
--Now Soft Reset or go to today settings, turn off touchflo 3d and hit ok. Go back and turn TF3D back on. All set.
To Move the items go to
- HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
-The locked items are numered 0-3
-Say if you want to move settings to the bottom left you would select key '3'.
-Rename it from 3 to anything you wish for instance 'n' (or any number starting from 24) make it short because you will change it again.
-Now go to key '23' and rename that to '3'
-Go back to 'n' or whatever you named the old 3 and rename it to '23'
-Now Soft Reset or go to today settings, turn off touchflo 3d and hit ok. Go back and turn TF3D back on. All set.
bro, where can i locate this?
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher

There is a way to directly link to specific Settings items, see http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/windows-mobile-faq/12666-applet-shortcuts.html Just save the text string after the "=" as a plain text file with extension ".lnk" and put it in the "/windows/start menu/programs" folder, as I'm sure you know.
I've used some of these and they can save a lot of stylus work. I don't see a way to link to the general Settings page itself though.

You have to get a registry editor. I use PHM but have heargood things for Resco registry editor. Just google search for a cab.
HKLM=HKeyLocalMachine
EASIER WAY to unlock the first 4 shoutcut in start menu.....
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\0
change the "IsReadOnly" dWord value to "0"
restart your TouchFlo3D
Do the same for 1, 2, 3....
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\1
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\2
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\3

Thanks for the tip - works perfectly. Only problem now is assigning an icon other than the ugly white page with Windows square on it. I have tried the trick described here in the Wiki, but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

Provided you have your shortcut in one of the initial 23 positions of the Program Launcher, you could try setting the icon path from the registry, in the location as described by HTC Touch Freak in the first post

There's also an "IconPath" parameter under the 0-23 keys which you might have more success with.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried that after posting the above. Managed to find out the icon is no 398 in shellres.192.dll, and inserted that into the IconPath line. Now, when I click on the shortcut, I get a message saying
"The file 'ctlpnl cplmain' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found."
I wonder if it's possible to make up your own icon, as you can in desktop windows - a bitmap of the appropriate size with ".ico" extension?
Thanks for the link Fisha21. I made a link for remove programs, put it in the programs list and also saw there was no icon. Well i thought, maybe i can easily approach the link differently.
I downloaded Link Creator 1.4 - Shortcut Creator (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494613) and just assigned the link to the right softkey.
For those who don't like that, there are many different options that it can be linked to (keymappings etc.)
Hope that helps a few peeps

WM6.5 full screen popup menu

Is there any way to change the full screen popup menu in 6.5 to the normal type of pop up menu?
Preferably to the larger type of popup menu (the finger friendly type) instead of the old 6.1/5.0 popup menu
Many thanks
Theres a number of things you can do to get it like that... you can install fingermenu.. or you can use Advanced Config to increase menu text size to LARGE which will make it similar to that.
Thanks Aegishua that is what I have and I dont want the full screen menu.
I just want the normal pop up menu, I have 'borrowed' this picture from elsewhere but I just want this type of menu...
No idea's anybody?
The one you have is...
Rhodium menu enhacement... so i think that feature is cooked inside... you must to find another rom without this feature cooked inside... or maybe there is a reg hack to disable the feature but i dont know where maybe you can search in HKLM/software/htc/
good luck
I would try another rom...
Thanks + QUE
I knew it would be a registry edit somewhere and after spending ages looking I coundent find anything but you hit the nail on the head "Rhodium menu enhacement"
A quick Google for the above pointed me to some cab files on XDA-Developers nd after deleting the entries hey presto I did look here but I did not know what the real name of the new style menu was so for anyone else intrested follow this...
Delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCMENUS
Delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCSCROLL
Delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\RESPROXY
Then navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\MASD and delete the two items HTCSCROLL and MENUENHANCEMENT
Then navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PKG and delete the item SHADOW
Then vavigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\GWE\MENU and delete the item CUIHANDLER
Thats it, enhanced menus but not full screen.

owner is missing

anyone help me .owner is missing i realy need that for some Resco program.thank's
Go to the People (contacts) app. There's an entry called 'me' at the top of the contacts list; it's like your personal business card. Fill in your details here and they're automatically used for the legacy 'owner info'.
Trust me, I've registered Resco Explorer perfectly fine this way.
There's a registry fix somewhere to get the old owner info screen back but, as you can see, you don't need it.

Same thing happened to me. You have to go to "Settings" - then "Menu" at the bottom right & choose "More" - "Private" --> "Owner info" --> "Alternatives" & uncheck the Identityinformation-box (dunno what it's called in english, running swedish menues on my phone).
Hope that helps

Method 1 :
Fire up a Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Owner and remove the redirect.
(You can also remove redirects from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Buttons and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Input).
Method 2 :
Fire up a Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Owner and create a new DWord called “Hide” (without the quotes)
and set its value to 0. If you already have this, change the value from 1 to 0. Soft reset.
Method 3 :
If you don’t like playing with the Registry Keys
1.Go into Today settings, Items tab
2.Enable “Owner Info” while disabling others and tap OK.
3.Enter the Owner Info via the Today screen.
4.After you’re done, adjust back your Today settings accordingly.
