I'm looking to replace the current system "pop" sound when selecting apps or menus with a "click" sound....the only problem is that I can't find the location of the "pop" ui sound on the phone in order to replace it. I've searched through the directories and can find every sound but the one I want to change.
Thanks for the help.

funny you should ask because I'm looking to stop that annoying 'click' as you browse the menus and such. I disabled the 'audible selection' which works but thats a different sound.
ideas?
I found the sound to replace...its in system/media/ui ...it's named TW_Touch.ogg ......I just deleted it(after backing it up first) then moved the new click sound to that folder...renamed the sound TW_Touch.ogg ..Turn off selection sounds in settings then turn them on again...now I have a new less annoying sound...still too loud though...even at the lowest volume setting.

I posted this earlier in the developers forum and thought this may be a better place.

I'm looking to get move volume options on my rooted Captivate 2.2.
Right now the system sounds are too loud for me....even after replacing the selection sounds...still too loud. The volume levels are stock 1-7...I want lower sound than the current lowest of 1.....Is there any way?.
I enjoy the feedback of sounds ...but the current sound level 1 is just too high
Thanks
Jim

You can barely hear level 1. Do you live in a library or what?
assonance 5.2
I think he is talking about when he plugs in headphones into his Captivate. I agree with him, it's way too loud. And I haven't found a way to make it softer either.
On my Captivate level 1 is still too loud for the system "click" sound...I like it more subtle. My HTC Aria gives me much more control over the system sounds and I just want to get the same on the captivate.

I too am annoyed by the system sounds...the "clicking" when navigating through the menus. I like the feedback and setting the volume low for the system sound works great for me (I don't normally use headphones). The problem is, every so often, the volume gets turned back up. Why is it doing this? And how do I get it to "stick". I haven't really found a rhyme or reason -- I can reboot and the volume will still be set how I had it....other times I can just turn the screen on and the volume will be turned back up.
Ghosts?
I believe if you dial *#*#197328640#*#* it gets you into a menu where #5 is audio. It's possible you can mess around in there and adjust the volume levels
why not just turn the system volume down and leave the others at regular volume high ?
I'm using Handcent for ny messaging because I prefer it to the stock app, but anyway, whenever I lower the ringer volume, the volume of my text tone doesn't change. Is it that way with the stock app or is it Handcent or am I just doing something wrong? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but on my MotoDroid the ringer volume controlled everything.
you need to install audio manager. this seperates the audio channel so you can control the volume of each independently. fyi your issue is common among android phones, always been that way and its kinda stupid...enjoy.
From he homescreen hit menu, settings, sound, volume, then check off the check towards the bottom.

External Speaker to loud
Does anyone know of a mod or adjustment to decrease the external speaker volume? On the lowest setting it’s loud. I like to listen to slacker at night before going to sleep. I have the Galaxy 4G with the following:
[ROM][ODIN] Stock DEODEXED KD1 [Root][EDT][5.4.2011]
[KERNEL] Bali [VoodooSnd / BLN / BFQ / no OC] "Extended Battery Life" [5/24/2011]
Thank you
Get voodoo control. You can adjust the speakers volume through that.
Thank you for the fast reply. Voodoo control will control the speaker on the phone? I don't mean the head phones the speaker on the back.
Yes it definitely will. I increased my volume over the limit on the speaker atm.
Where's the speaker ATM setting? I have voodoo control plus 1.0.7.3 I don't see that option? Thank you
I just changed the volume limit. That should work. If it doesn't I dunno what to tell you.
OK thank you for trying. Maybe someone else has an answer. Just to be clear one more time. I'm talking about the speaker on the phone not any headphones. When I listen to the phone speaker it's to loud on the lowest setting. I would like to adjust the volume to a lower level. I don't see that option in voodoo sound only for the Headphone amplifier.
Voodoo works. On home screen long press the home screen, choose shortcut, choose voodoo. That will let you adjust the volume. The more -DB will decrease your volume. Hope that helps
Oops sorry. That's only for headphones =P

Does no one have an answer for my request? Thank you
I don't want to point out what might be obvious but when I use the speakerphone for calls and music alike (both from external speaker on back of phone) I just start the call or song and then use the volume rocker on the side of the phone. Does this help?

Thank you for pointing out the obvious , but no that doesn't help. Ok using the volume rocker on the side the external speaker on back of phone is too loud on the lowest setting when playing music at night. Example when playing slacker I use the volume rocker on the side of the phone this is adjusting media volume. The question " Is there a way to adjust the gain to a lower value on the lowest setting so the volume is lower?" One of the developers should know a way to adjust the gain in maybe the kernel or somewhere?

Let me answer your question since it appears you need a straight forward response.
NO there is nothing to change the external speaker volume.
Additionally,.... TOO LOUD? The put some cloth on the speaker, put it on a pillow, do something to muffle the sound, but please, you have your answer... now let it die.
The op came here with a problem and was looking for a legitimate answer. Please don't get curt with posters because you think that their question isn't worth your time. I find that muffling the sound of the phone with a pillow to be unacceptable. Hopefully the op finds the answer that he needs before people like you tarnish the reason why open forums are here.

Thank you I'm glad someone supports what I have to say and not be rude about it. I hope that someone could come up with a fix. I'll be patiently waiting an answer fingers crossed. Oh by the way the pillow does work but it's not a fix I like. Thank you everyone!

Bro you must have the hearing of a f'n bat cause even with the back speaker all the way up its still not loud to me. But I would say I have selective hearing( only hear what you want when you want and tune the other BS out). As for getting a lower volume try elixir app in the market it gives you 1 or 2 more options on volume. I would try turning system and music down once you have the app. Hope this helps

Thank you GDofWR420 for introducing me to the Elixir App. Unfortunately it didn’t resolve my issue. I guess my speaker is extra loud or something. Anyways under music “which is the same as media volume” it has 1/15 on settings 1 being the lowest with a percentage of 7% percent. It would be nice to change that to maybe 3%. This must be hard coded somewhere in a file. This app will not set it to a lower value. I also downloaded SamServMode went through all the options and still no change. It’s a pretty cool app to change system settings. Thank you so much GDofWR420 for trying.

Does anyone know if it's possible to link the ringtone volume level with the notification volume level? I remember it being possible to do this on my Captivate when you went into Settings > Sound and clicked on Volume, there was a checkbox at the bottom of the pop-up menu to link them. I'm not sure if that was just because of the ROM I had on it, or if it was also stock Froyo. I liked it because I could quickly lower my text message notification volume right from the volume rocker, as it would then control both the ringtone and the notification level. But now it only lowers my ringtone volume. So is this at all possible to do? And if not, is it something that a dev could possibly work into a ROM?
You could use the app called audio manager that does it.

Thanks for the tip. Just downloaded it and it does, in fact, allow the volume rocker to adjust both my ringtone and text message volume at the same time. So I will definitely be using this for now; although, I really don't need all the other features. I wish I didn't have to download an entire app to accomplish this small task. I feel like I'm always having to do that haha. I just wish it was easy enough to include these small little individual preferences right into the system, framework, etc. by yourself. I also feel like that was a great little feature and I wonder why they would've done away with it in GB. Ohh well, thank you though!
