I was wondering if any one knows of a good app that has this functionality?
I have proximity sensor but since I have an app that auto turns on speaker phone on calls proximity sensor doesn't work, it disables it self on using speaker phone or volume or if you exit out on a call to do something it doesn't enable when finished

Tedd's Droid Tools
You could also try tasker. It's a great application.

Is there an app that can monitor the proximity sensor based on a user defined list of apps and turn off the screen?
For example; the US T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app is nice to have, BUT when you place the phone to your ear (to listen to the voicemail) it may tap the close icon or activate something. It definitely needs the auto screen off feature.
Add in the ability to also use the g-sensor and when the phone is upside down (or sideways) and the proximity sensor (or light sensor) is triggered, put the phone to sleep. This would be triggered when the phone is about to be placed into my pocket.
I agree. I find that if I put the HD2 up to my ear to hear a Visual Voicemail message, I invariably hit the screen with some part of my ear which stops playback and often initiates deleting the recording. Surely there is a way to activate the proximity sensor while running this app?
it will be nice to fring o r numbuzz too
Does anyone have any issues with flip to mute? I have the functionality on but when I flip my device over it doesn't seem to do anything.
I have the Rogers version of this device.

No - haven't rooted or anything just using default software
Is the phone set on a solid surface? This feature uses the gyro and proximity sensors

Yeah I put it face down on a desk when I try to use the functionality.
I'm assuming it should work with any media - youtube etc.?
Just testing it when other applications and it doesn't seem to work. It's strange because when I do the flip to mute "tutorial" in the settings it works fine.
I think it works with just the ringer on incoming calls. I just tested it by calling myself and the ringer indeed does mute when flipped over.

But if it's flipped and you receive a call - it still rings. I guess it just doesn't work the way I thought it did...
Same for me. I guess if you pick up the phone to see who it is, you can flip it over to silence the call.
I think mine does the same.. seems to work on anything but calls and notifications. Should be the opposite

Last time I checked it worked fine for me. I found out this morning that this also works on Stock Video player... Pauses the movie when you flip it over
For me ... flip to mute works only as an "action". you have to do the action for it to work...
you have to "flip it". not just be upside down.
The whole point for me was to be ringer off when upside down.
thats why i love these forums , learn something new everyday!!!! didn't even know i could flip to mute until now
I've been using an app to mute all the sounds on my phone (called Mute!), but it also blocks the vibration function. Does anyone have an app that will mute all system sounds (phone, notification, etc) and still allow vibration?
Press the volume down button till your phone vibrates. Works like a champ
Audio guru is pretty good.

That only mutes the ringer volume. I tried that when I first got my phone at the movie theater. I wasn't too happy when I kept getting text messages and didn't know how to turn off the notification sound.
I found Simple Sound Profile Widget. It lets you set up different sound profiles (like Normal, Meeting, Vibrate, Loud, or whatever) and then you can select one quickly from the home screen.
I'll check out Switcher Pro and Audio Guru as well.

Like Byrd said, no need to download an app. It already has the capability to mute all sounds for all notifications, but keep the vibrate on.
I found a lot of crap, but nothing useful about why when I turn ring to vibrate or silence I still get ring for text messages. I have to go settings- sound - notification. Y would moto do this to us?
Anyone have a way to silence ring and notification at the same time. With a fix, app, widget

I found settings extended by halfbit it gives the option to connect ringer and notification without extra crap on your home screen.

Did you try silencing it from the lock screen
A simple yes or no doesn't hurt anyone :-/
I use HD widgets for my little switches widget on my home screen and when i set it to vibrate only it does it for both my notifications and phone calls, the lock screen does the same thing like Christian stated.
Lock screen only silence the ring.

I'm having almost the exact same problem. My problem began when I installed a profile app, "Simple Profile Sound" I uninstalled it and I'm having the issue where if I put it on silent or vibrate the ringtone follows that command however, all my notification sounds keep ringing no matter what. I emailed the developer 3 times with no response. I have seen others that had the same problem with that app and have done a factory reset but that didn't help. Seeing this happen to you makes me think there's something else behind it. I've posted in a few different forums but nobody has come up with an answer. There has to be someone out there that should know how to fix this issue hopefully!
The proximity sensor is not positioned in the center and this make the display to turn on automatically if I move the phone slightly while I am on the call. The calling screen app is buggy, it will turn on the display automatically even if I press the power button to turn off the display while I am on the call. This issue still didn't get fixed in the latest update. I am so annoyed with the calling screen that I have to rely on earphones to make calls now. Any solution?
