I took hboot 0.76.2000 from toast's root nand unlock part2 and put it in a new PC36IMG, so that those who installed unrevoked forever can get the extended fastboot commands back.
NOTE: This is only for unrevoked forever users.
Tested to work if flashed from hboot (bootloader)
Not tested in recovery.
NOTE 2: Make a nandroid backup.
Place file on root of sdcard, power off your phone, then power on your phone by holding volume+down and pressing+holding the power button until the white bootloader appears. Press volume up once asked to install the bootloader.
NOTE 3: For those experiencing being stuck in bootloader, you can boot into recovery, flash your current ROM again, (without data wiping) OR just restore a nandroid backup. Flashing a custom kernel will also get you out of the loop. I'm going to go ahead and assume flashing anything other than hboot iwll get you out of the loop.
This will NOT wipe your device, however, backing up is always recommended.
UPDATE: It appears as though everyone is getting stuck in bootloader after this procedure. You can get out of this by reflashing your current ROM (without wiping) and/or restore a nandroid backup. Some have reported errors when trying to restore a nandroid backup. YMMV
Karadorde has put together a package that works. Read his instructions below:
First and foremost it seems that if you get stuck in the Bootloader (no matter what method you are using) then your Nandroid backups are broken. I don't know that anyone has been able to successfully restore from one of those yet.
The file in the OP allows you to apply just the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This works flawlessly for some but not so well for others.
The file in Post 71 and Post 91 allows you to apply a full PC36IMG.zip that contains the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This is a fix for some who have gotten stuck in the Bootloader after using the file from the OP. At the same time this has also caused the some of the same issues people were having with getting stuck in the Bootloader from the OP. This file will not downgrade any part of your phone, however, it will wipe the phone. Also it is reported that it broke root on one phone. I believe this only happened to one person, need confirmation on if it happened to multiple.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader you can re-flash your Kernel to fix the issue. Not sure if this works with the stock Kernel or if you have to have a custom Kernel. Looking for feedback on this.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader reflash your current rom. Need feedback on this as well.

He's talking about the fastboot commands, the commands you run when you reboot your phone and set your as "fastboot". Here's some commands you've probably seen if you've tried flashing a custom kernel:
Code:
fastboot flash zimage zImage
fastboot reboot

Adding on to this, you probably only need fastboot commands if you're planning on doing some serious rom development.

one slight thing I am confused on now with unrevoked forever available.
Is it possible to flash the ENG boot without changing the PRI ?
for example:
- stock 2.1 evo / 1.40 pri
- unrevoked 3 + unrevoked forever
- still on 1.40 pri
- flash ENG boot without 1.34 pri, leaving the 1.40 pri
?
I would like to know the same thing.

You seem in the know, so I'm asking you... I ran unrevoked forever, it said it was successful, but my HBOOT stayed as ENG HBOOT .76. Is that correct or did I screw up unrevoked somehow?
Thanks for this. I flashed the wrong damned pc36img.zip (thought I was flashing the one that had rooted 1.47) to get back to a sense rom from cm6 to do the pri hackery and had upgraded hboot.
Now that my pri's fixed I'd rather have S-OFF and the engineering hboot than sit here and reset my phone another 20ish times to get 1.40 pri back after re-flashing the engineering image!

You need the PRI file first!!! And if you have it share it cause everyone is wanting it. Once more people get this on their phone it should be a little while then someone should be able to drop that file so we can all update to the PRI.
Do we have to rename the zip file to "update" before we flash?

Was just reading the install instructions and says you can use unrevoked3 to install custom recovery (per their website says v3 works on all supported phones even if not previously rooted), then you should be able to finish the install of unrevoked forever and presumably flash any new rom.... hmmmmmmmmm.. sounds a little too good to be true.. .but who knows??? lol
I will definitely be playing with this on my friends evo just to see what we can do!
Phone: HTC Evo
Requirement: NAND unlock S-OFF (this allows for unsigned ROM)
Format: PC36IMG.ZIP
OS: 3.30.651.2 (2.6.32-15 Kernal)
Radio: 9.01
hboot: 2.02.0000
recovery: clockworkMod 2.5.0.1
WIMAX: 26023
PRI Version: 1.77_003
Wipes all user data: YES
Rooted: Yes
Link: http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/278989/PC36IMG-zip.html
How to install: Download the file from the link above and and rename it from [Megafileupload]PC36IMG.zip to PC36IMG.zip. Place the file "PC36IMG.ZIP" file on the root of the SD-CARD. Power down the phone. Power up the phone while holding down the volume down button. The phone will prompt you to install a new rom, follow the prompts and reboot after flashing.
Purpose:
To create a current base rom to flash other roms without starting at the 1.47 PC36IMG.zip version.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage to your phone! Please do a nano backup prior to using this rom. This definately is a test rom, worked perfectly for myself, but not tested by anyone else. If you have any problems, boot into recovery and restore your nano backup.
Acknowledgments:
All the developers that have shared their hard work on XDA!
Note: You can unzip the file, remove the modules like ClockWorksMod or hboot then rezip the file as PC36IMG.zip to prevent those portions from being installed if you prefer.
I was just about to request this. Thanks!
Just to Clarify: (not that your directions weren't clear, just want to make sure there are no hiccups for anyone.)
The phone will scan for and find the image.
It will take a little while to load. Should have a blue status bar to the right.
Do you want to start update? Volume Up: Yes
Once it is finished: Do you want to reboot device? Volume Up: Yes

Yours were fine and it is pretty self explanatory, but I know doing things through HBoot can sometimes be daunting for those who have never tried it.
Just wanted to clarify if flashing this IMG with the .79 hboot will re lock Nand protection. I've used Toasts part 1&2 and yet skeptical about using unrevoked forever.

The reason why I asked is that when rooting a new EVO,the radio, pri and wimax partitions get downgraded(using the traditional root method). With this, you can revert to the most current partitions all in a single flash including the Rom base instead of multiple flashes correct ??
You are correct, as long as you have ran the unrevoked forever to turn off the NAND unlock S-OFF prior to installing this ROM so that you can flash unsigned ROMs. This ROM has root built into it, so it would be just one step process to flash with this rom to have the latest of everything yet still have root.

The first time I tried I got a Fail-PU message for the boot partition. I'm pretty sure that's my phone's fault though, as the boot partition has been acting screwed up for days. (Not coincidentally, this is the reason I was looking for a complete PC36IMG.zip).
I flashed it a second time though, and all was well. Thanks again.
uberlemur thanks for the feedback.
Hopefully peepeesea was able to get it to work or able to restore the old nano backup...
So I guess that means that I have had 2 successful installations. LOL
will this work if you have Amon_RA recovery already?
Ok, so clockwork recovery has worked without fail for 8 months...
then today i tried to reboot into recovery (using power menu, adb etc) and it just sits on the google screen.
I have reflashed a few different recovery images and locked/unlocked the loader.
I can get into recovery only after straight after flashing the recovery, by going to the bootloader and selecting reboot (not recovery)
something is balked here, any ideas?
(i would just lock the bootloader again and take it back as faulty, but when that is done, it boots straight into recovery, i assume because there is no ROM there)
Lock the bootloader then unlock it again then reflash Clockwork.
Have you tried using the modded one on the dev forums at 4.0.0.2?

I got that problem here, and it doesn't help flashing the boot.img manually.
Restore stock ROM using RUU (and use misc_version script to downgrade the main version first). If you unlocked using HTCDev, you'll need to relock first. Read the guides, they're aplenty.
If it won't help or will write Fail-PU during restore - your phone is done.
Here is a link to the OTA. I didn't want to apply it till some smarter fellas could dig into it and see what kind of damage it does, so hopefully this will speed that process up a little.

I wouldn't flash it until it gets sorted out what's in it. It looks like the firmware.zip has a new h-boot (hboot_8960_1.09.0000_20120402_signedbyaa.img) so if they've patched some holes that were in the old one then flashing this might screw you if they get s-off on the previous h-boot.......I think

** this assumes that you have adb and fastboot in your PATH and that you know how to use them.
** this also assumes that you have some recovery.img file (named as such) saved in whatever directory you are running terminal commands from.
** this also assumes you are running linux. If all of the above conditions are met, the process should also be the same on Windows and OS X, but I have not tested that and cannot confirm that.
** this assumes that if you do not fully comprehend all of the above, that you will stop reading now. I am not responsible for any damage caused to your device by following these instructions.
Step 1: Find and download the following images from the 1.78.41.2 RUU: radio.img, wcnss.img, and adsp.img. Save them on your device's storage partition (/sdcard) named as listed here (** this assumes that if you use other names you also know how to adjust future commands).
Step 2: Boot your device into fastboot mode. Your choice of 'adb reboot bootloader' or manually powering down, booting to hboot, and selecting fastboot. (Future commands assume your device is plugged in to the computer at this point)
Step 3: On the computer, run: fastboot boot recovery.img
Step 4: Wait for your device to boot in to what looks like a normal recovery session. While it looks this way, it is not normal. In this recovery, you have the ability to do pretty much everything you can on an s-OFF device (flashing boot or other partitions, etc).
Step 5: This will depend on your recovery. Whatever the process is, make sure that your /sdcard partition is mounted (not mounting USB, but making the /sdcard partition readable to things like adb).
Step 6: On the computer, run:
adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/radio.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
dd if=/sdcard/wcnss.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19
dd if=/sdcard/adsp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Step 7: In the same recovery session, on the device, flash whatever 1.78-based ROM you like (Note: I have not seen ill effects using this on a 1.53-based ROM, but YMMV).
Step 8: Reboot. Enjoy.

I appreciate you trying to provide assistance. An RUU with a lower HBOOT will not overwrite a newer one so that option is not possible.

Thanks guys, will try to update TrickDroid TMOUS ASAP
