Just run the following commands to uninstall the old system apps if you use a custom rom.
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
adb uninstall com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
adb shell rm /system/app/VoiceSearch.apk
adb uninstall com.google.android.voicesearch
Then they will install just fine from Market (from the US Market). MarketAccess set to TMO US will allow you to find them.

Both apps are unsuccessful installs from the market on FRF91Deodexed, uninstalled with titanium. Awesome apps.

or do what I did. uninstall with titanium, reboot and install from market. running cm nightly

It's telling Mr the file isn't signed correctly. In the US.

I'm guessing that even with the required apks I will not be able to use this on my 2.1 Moment? Time to return to the Vogue then!

Themes for Swype

I don't know how many of you actually surf XDA, but I'm bored and I do. I came upon this thread that has themed versions of Swype if you use the beta. Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162686
And hit the thanks button for thekdub, I can only imagine how much time he puts into these things.
Note: I tried putting his .png files into the Swype that came with the G2x, but there are layout differences b/t the two versions and it doesn't look completely correct.
See post #6 below to uninstall Swype that came with the phone.
I also had trouble with using the swype beta. Not sure what the problem is, it's beyond my knowledge.
Really? I haven't had issues using the beta, what issues do you have?
awesome im running the beta on 2.3.3 now bout to hook this up in the theme awesome job finding this man... thanks alot

if you install beta on a rom that comes with a version of swype it will work for a while and then the first time you reboot it will force close like crazy. you have to uninstall the old swype and delete some library files before installing the beta. once you do this it's golden. i can't remember the name of the files, info is available on the beta swype forum via google search.

The file other than the old swype you have to remove is libSwypeCore.so in the /system/lib/ directory. So the adb code should be:
Code:
adb shell rm -f /system/app/Swype.apk
adb shell pm uninstall com.swype.android.inputmethod
adb shell rm -f /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
Then you are good to go for using the beta.
Can I have some screenshots ?

I ran into the same problem and instead of using adb i went and deleted the files via root explorer, just an alternate way to approach it if anyone is having problems.

No clue if it's a rom issue, I wouldn't think so, but what do I know.
So you did the adb method to remove the stock Swype. Did you install the Swype Beta installer, uninstall the Swype that it installs, and then install the themed version?
Dont forget (since I havnt even tried the adb route yet):
Android Commander
or
Droid Explorer
Only ones I use, and they work alright.

meh, it was really simple. i forgot that i did not have the beta installer installed after flashing a rom

[Q] Swype Beta No Longer Working

I'm running XBoarder's GB 2.3.3 ROM Version1.2.2. I flashed it this morning.
The "old" version of Swype is working just fine. However, when I download the Beta.apk and try to install, Swype won't work.
I'm using Titanium to "Freeze" the original Swype so the Beta will load onto my phone. It used to work like a charm, but is not working anymore.
Anyone else having any problems?
Does it Force Close on you?
you have to uninstall completely the old swype. then you have to use a file explorer to remove a file called libswypexxxx.co or something like that. It is located in system/lib. Then you install the beta installer and finally you download the beta and install it through that app. you can also at this point use one of the swype themes, which look amazing.

Adevilfish,
How do I completely uninstall Swype? I go into Settings - Apps - Manage Apps - ALL APPS, and then I scroll down to SWYPE. It does not give me the option to Uninstall. Just to Force Close and/or Clear Data.
What do you do at this point?

It's a system app so you can't use the manage applications setting.
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm -f /system/app/Swype.apk
adb shell pm uninstall com.swype.android.inputmethod
adb shell rm -f /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
After that install the beta.
wewoapsiak ,
I sincerely appreciate the information, but that could not have made any LESS sense to me.
That was WAY over my head. I'm getting better with this phone stuff, but I clearly still am a "White-Belt Noob".
Forgive the following questions:
What was that?
What do I do with that code?
ADB---Android Device Bridge. How your phone communicates with your computer.
There are many alternatives, but if you want to learn about it, try here.
Or simply download Android Commander, it's a GUI for your computer that allows you to drag and drop or delete. Or use root explorer. There are plenty of ways. Delete the two files (Swype.apk and libSwypeCore.so), install the beta.
Can this be done using "Root Explorer"?

Yes. Navigate to those directory file listed in the adb posting above.
Delete those lines

Baked-in spotify must go...

Hi guys.
I just got the Nougat update, on Bell Canada. Everything is great except it rolled out a built-in Spotify. This eradicated my existing old-version Spotify app. Worse, I can't remove it, only disable. Old versions won't install over it either.
I don't have root and probably won't for a while.
Any way to remove the offending app? Workaround?
Thanks!

No way, without ROOT.
Try with adb.
With this commads :
adb shell
cd system/app
ls
ls will list all apps in system partrition and delete app you want by typing: rm nameofapp.apk

Nope, it was made and cloned in lucky patcher, the most safest way possible, unless you do the app on your own. Just install it, log in and listen to music, and also you can disable the other app.
The next thing I'm willing to try is to set time of this app to stay at one point, this way, those 7 days of free trial can last for eternity, but don't think I'll make it any time soon.

Hi, thanks for your apk file that actually works on the z5 on nougat by being installed next to the original application that can be disabled. Can you tell us how you created this clone without having a package conflict? I imagine you took the version available on AlphaGamers but how to do after? Thank you in advance !

You can't share patched or cracked Spotify apk. It was forbidden and it is against the XDA rules.

Hello guys, with the cloned version of the app (assuming the one included in nougat is disabled) is the link from soundhound (when you detect a song and have an option to open it in spotify) working properly or instead is taking you to Spotify's website (meaning it's not detecting the cloned version) ?
Just clone your old version Spotify APK with App Cloner then install it. The apk signature of the clone will be changed so you are able to install it

Thanks this worked perfectly. Disabled factory installed spotify and cloned the modded version and installed. Worked great.
I feel like I'm coming too late but here goes:-
Step 1 :
Code:
adb device
Step 2:
Code:
adb shell
Step 3: pm list packages | grep <OEM/Carrier/App Name> command (without quotes) to find package names
e.g
Code:
pm list packages | grep [COLOR="Red"]google[/COLOR]
Step 4: Once you find the desired bloat app to remove type:- pm uninstall -k --user 0 <name of package>
e.g
Code:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 [COLOR="Red"]com.quora.android[/COLOR]
If it helped don't forget to smash that like button and subscribe for more vi... Wait, wrong outro!
^i assume you need root access to do that?

I would say
1. Download from android themselves:
developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
2. Extract the .zip file somewhere on your computer and add that folder to your windows PATH variable so you can reference it from anywhere using command prompt (cmd.exe).

I had to do it twice, because I didn't turn off auto update in Galaxy Apps and didn't uninstall Secure Folder before I started. I'm not 100% of the connection, but somehow Bixby came back, but I uninstalled Secure Folder, turned off Auto Update, and it worked great. They got root for my device like two days later, so kind of pointless, but it helped a lot! Thanks! :good:

Pre installed app removal?

It appears that some apps that come pre installed on the 8t can be deleted...rather than disabled. For example, Google One.
If I delete them, will they reinstall with a factory reset or were they installed separate from the factory image?
Been several years since I had a new phone and am use to only being able to disable pre installed apps.
Thanks
Well if you root you can debloat it

False... You can easily debloat/delete apps from adb without root, on all smartphone, OnePlus, Sasmsung Redmi/Xiaomi
Best way is obviously to use adb method if you're not willing to root. Enter adb shell
Code:
adb shell
A simple search like this will give all packages with google in it's name. You can replace 'google' with 'oneplus' or 'facebook' etc to find the package names.
Code:
pm list packages | grep 'google'
You can use this to delete the app after finding package name using this.
Code:
pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.appmanager
Note that this removes apps only from default user and not from system. They will return if you do a factory reset.

Package Info from the PlayStore is also another good way to see the package names of what is installed to make the apps you want to get rid of easier to remove. Personally, I save a text file of the apps I remove for each device I have to make it easier to remove them if I ever have to factory reset the device or remove them for others.
