Replacement Phonebook and Dialer app. - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

I hate the stock dialer/phonebook apps.
It just takes so long to dial, and while your walking you need to click on someones number, might not be very accurate.
Are there any good 3rd party apps for this?
Could we use the ones from other android phones? If so, where can we get them?
thanks

I use aContacts and love it.

Atakephone, definately the best...(for me)
and as widget people widget, for speeddial from one of your homescreens directly

[Q] Contacts App: Feature?

Hi all
I'm looking to find an app that combines the best features of dialers and the android (or is it samsung?) contacts app.
Basically, i love being able to open up the dialer, and type in the name on an alphanumeric keyboard which is open on default. This means to find a name takes about a second, and about 2 or 3 strokes of a key.
BUT, all dialers i have tried, once you click on the contact, open up the contact, and then you still have to click "call" and "yes, i am freaking sure!".
I LOVE the feature on my stock contacts app for swiping left to message and right to call. I want that feature in a dialer app to minimize the effort required to call or sms.
Anyone able to recommend a good app that makes calling and messaging contacts a breeze?
Thanks in advance!
JonAlex
Try AContact. It has a few settings that you can fiddle with and is pretty fast.
Im using go contacts since month... its good. serves my purpose. And It got what you want if I understand properly.

Nope, you can't swipe to dial or message in Go contact
I'd go for "Dialer One", but it's a matter of taste.
I'd ALSO go for dialer one.. in fact i used dialer one for a while.. but i didn't like:
1. No swipe to dial/message function, meaning that it was not an ideal replacement for stock contacts
2. Shows all numbers of a contact as separate contacts. I have 6 friends called matt, which means when i type in matt, it shows me over 20 phone numbers for matts. fail.
I will give go contacts a try...
Is the only reason why the swipe to dial/call function has not been added to all these dialers because the devs haven't thought of it? if so, what a huge oversight. If not, why not??
If the stock contacts app opened with an alphanumberic keyboard, i would consider it the best dialer.
Keep suggestions rolling people!

AFAIK, the stock SGS 'dialer' can search for contact name. like say matt, you can dial in 6288 (for matt). however, a little problem with the dialer is that you can't swipe to call except for log and favourite list.
The stock contact include a search bar at the top when you open it. It should do what you want to do.
Have you tried RocketDialer?
i tried rocket dialer today. it does have some nice features, although having a price isn't one of them. I live in South Africa and can't pay for these things cos google wont let me!
I really like the look and feel of the stock contact app, and could easily replace the dialer with an alphanumeric keyboard, but the reality is that having to hit the searchbar, and then type in someone's name on a portrait qwerty keyboard doesn't make me happy like the T9 dialers.
I would PAY (if i could) if someone tweaked the stock contacts app to include a dialer.

HTC Photo Album Widget

Are there any similar widgets available on the Android Market similar to the HTC Photo Album Widget(s)? (Specifically the photo grid one and/or the swipe up/down one.)
The constant HTC "loading" after pressing home from any other app is ridiculously frustrating and these widgets are the only thing preventing me from switching to another launcher. I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement widget, but perhaps my search skills aren't up to par.
Anyone know of any widgets with similar functionality? (Basically any widget that isn't fixed to just one photo at a time, with some sort of interactivity allowing you to flip through photos right from the widget.)
Anyone?
Have you tried multiple slideshow?

Quickpic has a widget?
I liked that widget too. That tile grid is fly, but it was certainly not worth me keeping Sense. I switched to Launcher Pro. I looked for some on the market, but I did not see anything remotely similar to that widget.

no. I think he's just stating that he uses it instead of the gallery app.

Aye. I use it all the time. I love it! It looks great and very slick.
Plus, it's great for theft deterrent. I misplaced my phone in a store and one of the employees was able to easily return it to me since my pictures were all over the home screen.
I tried the Multipic Slideshow Widget, but wow, it just does not compare.
I wonder why slideshow widgets are so few and far between? Seems like an easy place to clean up since there are no worthwhile competitors.
I understand completely

I feel you on the theft. That is why my lockscreen is the one where you can use a photo album as the source. ALL my family and friends come in and out of focus when the phone needs to be unlocked. You can steal my phone, but you can't steal my family (though i wish some members could be "borrowed" for an extended period of time. lol).
As for the widget, I am not sure if it is a htc proprietary thing. I just know I would use it in launcher pro. Again, this is the ONLY widget I like from Sense but I am not going to use Sense just for this app. I will keep looking for alternatives and post back if I find something.

[Q] Utilizing a home screen as a messaging app?

What I am envisioning is using an actual home screen as a messaging app, for example I would just slide over to a fully featured messaging app without having to click on an icon. I have seen lots of widgets and the like that just sit on the "desktop" but most are rather limited in functionality. I dont want to just display messages in a widget. Ideally, just sliding over would seamlessly and literally slide right in to the native messaging app. Anybody know anything that would allow this? Or does something like this even exist? Im assuming this is probably going to be more than just an app, and something that would have to be built into the launcher itself. I have been browsing the android market for something, but maybe I am just not looking hard enough?
there are lots of SMS / IM / email widgets that you can put in your home screen
for you to directly type into it and send from it, without launching the actual app
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Ive found a couple that do everything in a widget, Pure Messaging Widget probably being the closest to what I am looking for. But there a lot of wasted realestate on the screen, just looking for something that uses the full screen like a regular standalone messaging app. I dont know, maybe Im just being picky and pedantic. Lol, if there are any other suggestions that you have that I may not have seen yet please do tell. Thanks for the quick response.
Have you tried LauncherPro yet? I believe it has a Messaging widget that's pretty good. It may not be the full screen appearance you are looking for but there are lot's of themes around to alter it to your taste.
Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

The contacts kind of suck...

Is there a way to get the contacts back to a more "stock android" feel? The touchwiz format just seems inefficient and the call/ text buttons are just too small... the whoel thing seems like a giant waste of screen space!
I agree, the dialer/contact app is a big piece of junk on touchwiz.
I would recommend just using a different app, which you can easily install from the market. I really love exDialer - I just downloaded it a few days ago and I feel it works really well and looks much better than the regular dialer.
There are many apps for this, a popular one being Go! Contacts, but I found exDialer to be the best looking out of all of them. Start-up time is also very fast, which is important!
I felt the same way until I learned swipe contact from left to right to call and from right to left to send txt.

Loving the slide action thing... thanks for the tip!

Yeah I agree. exDialer is based off of MIUI's dialer and it's the best. It also uses the same framework for it's contacts app (it comes with the dialer app when you download from play store).
But does anybody actually use the contact app? I love the smart find on the dialer so I never really have to use the contact app for anything.

[Q] Has anyone figured out changing default dialer app on Nexus 5?

Really, has anyone figured it out? For example if I install ExDialer and get a missed call notification, I always have to choose the default app to view it. It seems impossible to set ExDialer (or any other 3rd party app) as the default for opening the call history. There is always the extra tap to choose the app.
Anyone, solution? I have read the whole internet and can't find the workaround.
I can't get to really like the new KitKat dialer, want to use ExDialer ...
What happens if you freeze the stock dialer?

Well, there's two things that can be disabled. One is the Phone app. The other is the Google Dialer app. If I disable Phone then there's no difference. If I disable the Dialer app then I can open the missed calls well with exDialer but if there's an incoming call then there's no sign of it except for the led being on (I assume the Google Dialer app is responsible for displaying incoming calls and the answer/decline buttons).
So I must have the Google Dialer app running but that means I can't use ExDialer.

I've spent countless hours trying to figure this out. I've lost my hopes. There is no way to do that. I've even been flashing several different roms to test this out. Can't believe so few people are actually discussing this.
