Need to reset to delete my email id (already rooted) - Captivate General

Hi,
I am already rooted. I wanted to remove my user id from gmail account so that my wife can put hers. I also deleted some of the AT&T apps after following the rooting guide.
When I tried to delete my gmail account its saying that I have to reset my phone to factory settings. My question is that can I do that knowing that I am rooted. Also what would happen to my paid and downloaded apps? Please guide.
Also I heard that new upgrade is coming will there be an issue upgrading to the new OS?
Please help..

You can do a factory reset and it will still be rooted, as for your paid apps they are tied to your Google ID so you will not be able to reinstall them if you set it up under your wife's account. You will still be able to get the upgrade but you should check the forum before you upgrade as you may lose your root with an upgrade.

Thanks/One more question

Thanks for the quick reply. Have one more question. I see that this phone is attached with my gmail id as you mentioned. I also realized that as soon as I go and buy any app it just goes through the google checkout. Is there any security I can add?

Can anyone pls help?

Well if you look in the market for antivirus it will pull up quite a few apps that say it protects you from ID theft and such...some are free and some you have to pay for. I personally do not use any but I don't do a lot of sensitive stuff on my phone..

Do you consider buying apps sensitive?
I also do not do any sensitive stuff only buy apps. The problem is that it does not reconfirm the password when you buy any app.

I'm having the same problem with the IMDB app so that may be a problem with the marketplace itself. I haven't had the problem with anything else yet though.
So I think you don´t have a HTC with preinstalled apps or did your HTC Notes app update correctly?
For me it´s the second app with that problem, and that suxx
I hope there will be a solution, from side of microsoft, next time.
I'm getting it with the IMDB app too. Haven't had it with anything else yet though.
Same problem here with IMDB.
Maybe the problem only concerns this program ?
Possible solutions
For those having issues with license problems when downloading / updating apps try this: Uninstall original app & then reinstall app from Marketplace. Worked for me. Another way that has been suggested & seems to work for some people (this was suggested by MS Support) Take the battery out & replace after 60 secs & then try again. Hope this helps folks.
Hi.
Uninstall and Reinstall was the first I tried, without any result.
The 60 second battery out worked fine! Thx for this tip!

I want to change my Region in Zune account. During the registration of my profile from the phone I set the "Country" to "United Kingdom" and now I see all prices in the GBP. In my profile info at Zune.com I can change my name, e-mail address, but I cant change the Country (I need to setup to region with USD prices). Can someone help me?
I've read somewhere that there is no way to change the country of a Live ID account. You have to create another one and then, another Microsoft deadly choice, you have to do a "reset to factory" on your phone because there is no way to change the first Windows Live ID account in Settings->System->Email & Accounts.
I did the reset, added the account with the correct country as the first Windows Live ID but also added the previous account as a secondary Windows Live ID and I'm just keeping the phone in sync with the contacts, mail and calendar of this second account.

I did not have to pay for mine again. I did not take the battrery out either, I just ununstalled the app and then went to marketplace and retried the download. Worked fine then.

No.
Once you buy an application it remains free for you (unless you use a new account).

[Q] To ROM makers: how do you link pre-installed applications to Android Market?

I just got a great news today, my own application will be included on all the phone of the brand "X" in my little country (Belgium)
I got so excited when I am looking at the phones in the shops and I can see my application by default.
Unfortunately, the brand "X" is noobie and seem unable to link my app to the Market, so the users cannot be aware that there is an upgrade in the Android Market.
they just ask me by email
Do you know how to link apps to the market to get the update automatic?

I know that I don't work for this company and they will get benefit with this information, but have you got an Idea on how to achieve this?
Thank a lot.

You got to put your apk file in the data/app folder, not the system/app. According to HTC Android ROM kitchen at least, with which I'm experimenting now.

Doing this allows them to uninstall your app as well
Thank a lot for your kind answer, Androyed, but I strongly believe there are other alternatives.

I don't care, I prefer users removing my app rather than being annoyed by an old version, but I don't think that the manufacturer will allow to do that.
Are there really no other option than moving the app? I cannot believe that as many devices have pre-installed apps and are linked to the Market.

Yeah I prefer that way too but U.S. carriers love putting preloaded applications on the phone and it can't be removed unless the user have root access.
And there is no option.. unless you want to provide the customers phones with root access from the start but that'll cause future updates to be a hassle.
The only way to update your app is via a software update (OTA).

Haha, you probably need an answer from an actual dev.
One thing I do know is that it is possible with Titanium Backup, or any other root backup app, to backup your apps with a market link, so that you can update your backed up apps. So maybe that's the solution? Put a market link somewhere?

Actually.. now that I'm thinking about it. Stock ROMs have Android Market is in /system/app/ as Vending.apk.
I believe what happens is that, the market will UPDATE. But you could always uninstall the updates but you're unable to fully get rid of the app.
This should apply to any app in /system/app/ so in theory it should be possible. But yeah, you'd have to ask a dev about it.
What app?

[Q] Removing My Orders and My Devices form Android Market

Does anybody knows how to remove My Orders and My Devices form Android Market?
Earlier I used Desire HD. Some market application I did not used that time and off-course uninstalled them. That time those unused uninstalled also appeared onto my market account. Recently I changed my phone to Sensation but still those DHD applications are visible onto my market account. Even some of them automatically restored. I want to get rid of that by removing unappropriated stuffs.
When I used Desire HD android market's "My Devices" page showed desire HD. But now after using sensation, "My Devices" page is showing two devices.
Please help me by let me know how to remove My Orders and My Devices form Android Market?.

You can delete devices from there. I didnt even know the android market kept track of your devices until I went there a couple days ago. I saw every phone I had listed. It was weird to see my G1 listed from back in the day lol. I deleted them all except for my current Sensation.

My mistake, you are correct. I could have sworn I deleted them.
Has anyone ever figured this out?
I flash my phone a few times a month and I think it is nice that it will reinstall all your market apps but there are a LOT that I just install to try and then want them GONE forever. Has anyone ever figured this out?
Thanks,
supersobbie
PS Yes I tried to uninstall from the settings menu as well as uninstalling using the market app on the phone. But I still have "FREE" apps on my orders list from January of this year that I do not install or use.
Nope, and Google are useless as well as they didn't even know that if you look on your Google Dashboard (all account data held by Google) you can see what they backup and how large the backup is
In order to get those old apps from your previous device not to restore on your new device all you have to do is not select "automatically restore backup" check when you first setup your device. I prefer to use titanium backup anyway because I prefer a more hands on approach. Hope that helps. Just do a factory reset and make sure you don't check that option the 2nd go-around.
this problem also bugs me too. I got a new phone and it doesn't automatically install all my apps, the market only seems to want to install to old phone?
and there are apps I do not wish to install.
the market app on the phone doesn't show any apps at all.
so I have to go through the market website and manually pick the apps.
I find it hard to believe that Google haven't done proper useability testing for this scenario, it's really crap.

Sending phone back, best way to back things up?

After having nothing but trouble with my Sensation since June, I finally decided it needed to go back to Tmobile for a replacement. Thankfully I held off on rooting it since I know that can be a very hit or miss situation to fix prior to returning it. What is the best way to back up my apps and data so that I can get the new phone "looking" like this one? Clearly I can not root, so I need a solution that does not require tinkering. I have heard that all apps downloaded from the official Market should be available again (at no charge), can anyone confirm this? If so, how do I go about getting those apps? Also, will the same happen for free daily apps I downloaded from the Amazon App store?
Hi,
I'm also waiting for maturity and ease on rooting/unrooting this phone for the same reason you are
I had to do a factory reset on my Sensation after a couple of weeks and was pleasantly surpised to not only get my contacts back but all the apps I'd installed via Market.
Ensure both boxes are checked under "backup and restore" in Privacy settings and that you've been synchronizing with Google ok and you should get all the Market apps + your contacts and also your settings (like notification, ringtone etc) back
Sorry dunno about Amazon. Hope this helps.

That is interesting. Now, the question is did that work because you were using the same device? I am wondering how it works once you switch to a totally new piece of hardware with a different ESN and so forth.
You will keep all your maket app. Also, your Amazon app store purchase will be there if you sign in with the same account. Just backup your contact info to google and that should be it. The only thing that you will lose is app settings and data.

Use SMS Backup in the market, remember to keep your current SD csrd, the backup will be on it. Backup with Gmail works good too, both are available in the market.

Use MyBackup Root if you're rooted. It saves your stuff on your SD card and you can restore it on a new device.

You will be able to keep all of your amazon appstore and market purchases. You just have to redownload them while signed into the same gmail account that you made the original transaction. Be wary of some game apps however.. I remember there was a problem for some users using Gameloft apps where they were unable to redownload the games they had purchased and were told by the company that they had to repurchase them for use on their new device. I haven't had the problem since I back up with Titanium, but if root is not an option, then you've been warned

[Q] Cancelling update for one speficif app?

Hi folks,
While tweaking my phone I accidentally clicked Google Hindu Input on Keyboard & Language section. Even though I unclicked it afterwards, Google Play wants to update it (I manually update my apps). I disable the Input notifications from Apps menu, but it is still shown up under Google Play "update your apps" menu. I installed and uninstalled it, yet to no avail. Is there any way to unlink my connection with it?
I'm using rooted Nexus 5.
I had the same problem, all you have to do is go to Settings>Apps>All>Google Hindu Input>Disable
And that should do the trick!
P.S. it should look like the picture after all said and done..

Also found that Titanium Backup has bunch of market related functions. I'm a noob to the app, but if I find anything to solve my problem, I'll post it here.
