Ok so i have the whole season 15 of top gear in x264 high res about 1.5gb per episode, when its loaded on the internal phone memory the files play just fine, when i load them on my micro sd when i try to play them it says invalid format?
Whats going on here?
what is the file extension?
Try to play something in standard res ... if it plays could be the read speed of your sd card.
its a mkv file
whats your video player? Rockplayer?
The only 32GB microSD cards available today are quite slow (class 2), compared to your internal SD storage which is around class 6 speed. It is possible that the bit rate for your movie is too high that the card is not fast enough to supply the bits to the player.
The other possibility is that if you bough your 32GB from eBay for cheap. Those cards, often from a seller in China, are known to be fake and the actual card is only a few GB in size but its FAT32 is purposefully faked to make it look like 32GB. When you store more than a few GBs of data to it, it will overwrite each other.
The only real 32GB microSD card is from SanDisk and it costs $100 to $150 each.

One of my friends is going to buy a Droid X and Verizon is offering a 32GB MicroSD for $100 with the purchase of a Droid X. My friend already has a 16GB MicroSd and does not want to spend any more money. He offered to get me the 32GB MicroSD from Verizon if I gave him the money. Does anyone know what's the highest capacity MicroSD supported in the Captivate? Everywhere I read it says "up to 32GB" supported which I "assume" includes the integrated 16GB.
its 32gb. it what most of all new phones capacity. it means whooping 48gb that we can have in samsung captivate. now thats alot of memory.

Could you please point me to a link where I can verify this information. I hate to waste $100. 48GB sound great, but I want to be completely sure.
I dont think you can use a 32gb. Everywhere ive read it says 16gb max is what is supported.
I think because the internal memory is actually an SD card itself, and the max sdhc standard can handle is 32. So 16 internal and 16 microsd = 32 -> full

Look under "SD card and phone storage" and it clearly has an "internal SD card" as well as external
which is why i mentioned the above
pdadb.net says "microSD, microSDHC, TransFlash
Supports High Capacity (SD 2.0/HC) memory cards with capacity of up to 32GB"
they could be wrong though. id get a 16 just in case. the proce on the 32 is retarded high for now.
I have a 32GB SanDisk card in my Captivate.
I bought it yesterday from Verizon's website for $99 including free next day shipping.
The captivate fully supports the SDHC format, thus it supports adding cards up to 32 gigs. Should be the same for any SDHC compliant device. The only exception to this are a hand-full of devices that support 4gig and smaller SDHC cards via ugly hacks.
On a side note, it's redundant to say " supports SDHC up to 32 gigs", since there will never be a SDHC card >32 gigs, but that's advertising for you

I have a 32 gb card now, and the internal of 16. Both show up at their correct capacities, and when I fill them all the data is accessible.
Ah, it's too bad that ALL the prerelease materials state the maximum SD size as 16 GB. I would have purchased a 32 gig if I had known.

its 32gb
(too short )
All Galaxy S devices can support external SD cards up to 32gb, that is excluding the internal storage. I have a 32gb card in mine, which I will never ever fill up.
Samsung's site, FYI, currently specifies 32GB support for the microSD card slot:

If you got $200 to spare you can buy a 64gb sdxc card and see if it works. I personally don't need that much space, but i can use that much money
The only time it wasnt recommended to use a 32G was with a MiUi rom but
i think that issue is fixed anyway
SDXC in captivate
The temptation of 80gb on my phone was too great- I caved and bought a 64gb SDXC card from sandisk for 80 bucks. I dumped a few videos from my desktop onto the card to test it out, and got a damaged sd card message, prompting to format it. I clicked okay, forgetting that the ICS build I'm using formats internal SD instead of external SD. So that hurt.
Next I tried a nook color using CM7. Got the same damaged sd card, but it was able to format it. I got a reboot as it attempted to re-mount it following the format, but following the reboot, it was usable. It played video and showed up as 59.6GB or something close. This newly android-formatted card wouldn't work in when stuck back in the captivate, however. It's possible that it will work on a different rom- one that's able to format it itself, but after losing the internal SD, I'm going to hold off on messing around with an old GB rom.
My local retailer already has stocks for the 32GB Sandisk MicroSD Class 2 card, I know sandisk under rates their cards but Im wondering if anyone has this specific microSD card can tell me how fast it read/writes if its inside the phone..
If possible post some benchmark numbers and the name of the benchmark, no actual screenshot needed, I just want a basis of comparison so my current 16GB class6 Team brand. I really need the space more than the speed though.
Haven't checked the speeds, but I can watch 720p video from my Sandisk Class 2 card, can't think of a use-case scenario where you need to read quicker than that. If you're writing large quantities of data to the phone very often the write speed may be an issue, but I suspect many people are like me and the only time they do that is when they first load their music collection onto the card.

Yeah, first load of music/movies into the card.
Please also remember that there is no standard way of measuring MicroSD speeds at the moment and the present system only really relates to the write speed. For playing content they will all be the same it is when recording HD video that the faster cards come into their own. I have also heard that all class 2 are actually class 4.
I just got the card now and the read speeds as tested by crystal disk is twice as fast as my Class 6 16GB the write speed is only slower at sequential w/c is 4.6MB compared to the 5.xx mb that my class 6 did but all the other write speeds are more than 2x faster!
$88 well spent!!
Yes its still $88 here and its the cheapest you can get!

I've been looking to buy a 16gb micro sd card, there are a few different class types. Is there a noticable speed difference and performace between the 2, 4 or 6?
Thanks!
Ed
you will see a performance difference in write speed - copying files to the SD card - getting your movies and music loaded; but not with read or playback.
Class 6 is required by cameras doing video - but for playback class 2 works fine. I don't think it is worth the money to go Class 6 if you don't need it. Also, don't buy the deals on eBay - most are cheap knockoffs that fail after some time if they ever work right.
Thanks. This is something I've been curious about for a while.
What type of SD card and what class I would have to use? ?
Micro SDHC (anything over 2Gb is HC) at least class 4 I would say, but the faster the better.
ETA: When I transcode with Handbrake, with a rip either from a DVD or a BD I don't bother with HD resolutions for my phone. Using the iPhone preset seems to work pretty well and gives me file sizes of around 500mb per movie. Of course if you were watching on an external monitor using HDMI you might want a higher res, but you'd be lucky to get more than one movie on any card smaller than 32Gb.
Hello guys
I have a motorola Xoom 3g 32gb with Android 3.2, the European version MZ601.
I have a problem with video playback on the 32GB microSD-cards: When I click on a video that I copied to 32GB microSD-cards, all players (mobo, XPlayer, rockplayer, etc. ..) are not able to read the video!
But if I copy the same video on a 8gb microsd-cards, I can watch the video and I have no problem!
My microsd-card is FAT32 formatted!
What do you think?
Can you help?
The strange thing is that some video to wmv or avi are reproduced well on the 32gb microSD, while others do not!
Have you checked the file size?
Could you check memory card classes ? Do they have the same class level ?
Class level is related to memory speed. Perhaps your 32GB card is too slow ...
...32gb micro-sd card is a class 10 card...
...8gb micro-sd card is a class 2 card...
..so, class 10 is better than class 2!..it's possible that 32gb class 10 is too slow!!
Now i try to test it with H2testw 1.4.. to know if my 32gb micro sd card is a fake card!!

I was going to suggest the same thing. If you bought your card cheaply from eBay or Amazon Marketplace, there's a good chance it's fake.
My 32GB Class 10 Lexar I got from Amazon (not the marketplace) works perfectly.
I bought a 32gb class 10 off eBay and it turned out to be a hacked 2gb class 2..
Be careful who you buy them from.
