Think I put this in the wrong section initially. Sorry....after updating to the leaked froyo at the end of July, google maps now gives me the wrong location. I'm in iowa and it shows me in missouri. If I use wifi or cell tower, it's correct. Is there an update I need to do?

Guessing this is because of the GPS issues with 2.1, but Google Latitude simply DOES NOT update, unless I open Maps manually.
Does 2.2 Fix this? any other phones having this problem in 2.1?

The Moment had a similar issue. You would think Samsung would have it figured out by now.
May just be me, but I thought it had to be "running" to update the location - at least on my hero I had to open it, and let it load my location before it would update latitude.
Mine updates just fine as long as you have google location services running. Menu/settings/Location & Security/use wireless networks. Make sure user wireless networks is checked. It comes unchecked by default.
FYI: This is not an Android development issue.
Anybody having this problem?
I recently updated Google Maps to Version: 4.5.0 (#4519). I didn't change anything to my Location or Privacy settings. This new version doesn't update my location (when I hit the dot on the upper right). Any possible fix or workaround to this in settings? Or is this a bug in the new update? I only have the Use Wireless Networks checked and usually that's enough to give me an approximate location. Still, Google Maps (and Latitude) shows that I'm my phone is at home when I have it here in my office 9 miles away.
I'm running that version for a while ago (or I think because mine has the location on top) and I'm having no problem at all

I'm having the same issue in San Diego (Mission Valley) trying to access my location via the 3G or Edge wireless network. It works fine using Wifi or GPS if I can get a GPS lock. The funny thing is I tried it up in Carmel Mountain Ranch and I was able to get my location via the 3G wireless network. I also flashed back to the stock rom and tried the original Google Maps and it has the same issue now as the latest version. There must be a problem with AT&T network in our area.
Hey! I'm also in Mission Valley (work)! Something is up in the Mission Valley area, most def. College Area is ok, Mira Mesa, Lindbergh Field (places I've tried recently). Mission Vally is in the twilight zone.
It must be something with the cell towers.
Check your location now. Mine shows me at my office building with just the cell networks.

Still not working. I've downloaded the new Google Maps and it does say that some cell towers aren't actively sending or receiving MyLocation data. It wants us to use GPS or WiFi for a more accurate MyLocation position. Bleh.

For some odd reason my location can never be found. In latitude I have set it manually,as well as automatically using settings and it throws the same error each time. I am running the latest version of maps, so I know it can pull my location from wifi.
Is there a setting I missed somewhere else in the system? It stuck at 1 point but the first time I tried directions, it lost my location on the map.
Any input? is it a bug or just not working w/o GPS?
any help would be appreciated.
The WiFi location doesn't work for some reason -- so GMaps wants to default back to GPS (which the GTablet doesn't have)
Download "Location Spoofer v1.7" or "My Fake Location" from the Market (sometimes they don't show up -- but I posted the APK for Location Spoofer 1.7 in another thread about Google Maps so grab it there if you need it)
I did manage to get my location locked by using latitude from the PC, using IP location look-up. Now my location shows up on maps on the G-tab but still when I click nearest places, (gas, ATM) etc it still throws location not found.
Gonna try location spoofer now.
Ok seems like this issue is gonna go on the back burner for a while. Even running location spoofer, it still gives the message "location temporarily unavailable.
Or...it just be a plain simple issue that Montana is falling behind the times and is on Googles (we'll get around to fixing it) schedule.
It's not that I don't know where everything is in town. it would just be nice to have a functioning tool to show off.
I have recently encountered more of an annoyance rather than a problem that got my head scratching. It is location and GPS related, so I searched for Galaxy S6 GPS problems in google, and I have noticed that some owners experience a lot of signal loss/searching in their phones. What I have found annoying in my case is that whenever the GPS signal is lost, Google Maps puts me in a wrong location that I have not been to for a while (around one month). I have lived in that location before, but I have since moved and no longer stay there. I have purchased the phone after moving. After a bit of experimenting I came to the conclusion that the building I currently live in blocks the GPS signal, since whenever I am in the balcony/near a window I get a signal and I'm put in the correct location in Google Maps. As soon as the signal is lost, Maps automatically puts me in that old location. This has also effected Google Now where I'm given incorrect travel times and directions, but not my weather location (set on current).
I have set 'Home' to my new location, I have also tried deleting my location history from google, tried a few GPS fixing apps, reinstalling Maps, and also installing other map applications like Here and Waze, which behave the same way and give me the same old location as my current.
At first I thought it could be a GPS hardware defect in the galaxy, but I turned on my old HTC One (M8) and it acted and behaved in the same way putting me in my old location. So it seems to me there's something in the Android OS perhaps since Here and Waze act in the same way. I also tested with the Maps app on an iPhone 6 and it gave the correct location although not 100% accurate. So is there anyway I can make Maps at least remember my last location before signal loss?
It is also absurd that my laptop can pinpoint my correct location while connected on Wifi while my phone with GPS, wifi and cell network cannot, which in conclusion seems like an android bug or something with location history in my google account which as I said already tried deleting the whole history.
Also note that the GPS and Maps work perfectly fine whenever I'm outside the building.
Google Maps has had weird location issues on Android since January or February. Affected the GPS accuracy / function of my Nexus 5 as well. I think the bug is actually in Google Play Services framework, not in AOSP or the Maps app.

I bought a case that was supposed to be a clear view but doesn't work and needs a proximity sensor app installed to work. It has the magnet and a lump for the chip. I also couldn't get a gps lock. Was seeing up to 6 satellites but not locking. I removed the case and got 17+ and a 3d lock straight away.
I came to the conclusion that my building blocks the GPS signal, but the annoyance comes from Google maps locating me in a default location far away from me whenever there is no signal.
