[Q] Debranded Desire wont update to 2.2 - General Questions and Answers

New to this forum, so hello is in order first.
I have a HTC Desire from Vodafone. Had it about 3 months and very happy with it.
Because of the recent Vodafone 360 update news, and the likelyhood that Froyo from Voda will be heavily branded, I have today debranded my Desire to what I understand in the genreic version of Android, 1.21.405.2.
Now I understood that once I had done this I could update straight to 2.2, but my phone isn't having any of it
The process I followed to debrand was, in a nutshell, to get the Android SDK tools, get a Hex editor, create a goldcard, then download and install the following;
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.
Can anyone shed any light on why I can't update to 2.2?
Any help appreciated,
JorB

Have the same situation here, but with T-Mobile "branded" one.
Just two updated were applied and that's all, still on "2.1-update1"
Thanks for any idea/help.

I have the same problem, my phone keeps restarting, it wont let me OTA update it wtf!

back up and update

Hello,
I got the nexus one about 3 months ago with android 2.1. I bought it from the u.s. but had to hack it in order to use it here, so now, when I got the update alert on my phone, I keep on "later" it because I know I have to first back up all the hacking, files etc and then to update the version.
so,
first question- how can I backup my phone so I won't have to hack it again after updating androind to 2.2?
second question- where can I find detailed instructions on how to update it?
thanks!

[Q] Upgrading G2Touch/Hero to 2.1

I have an unlocked T-Mobile G2 Touch (service provider O2), which I am trying to upgrade to 2.1. I am currently running 1.5 and have just updated to the 2.73.110.26 ROM which I downloaded and installed from HTC.
After installing this ROM upgrade i get a message asking me to do a software update, (which I understand from reading forums should complete the upgrade to 2.1), but shortly after confirming the update the handset turns off then turns on with what appears to be a warning display, (a triangle next to a presumably dead handset graphic).
I have left it like this for 20mins+ and nothing happens so i have tried the process again, (re-install 2.73.110.26 ROM, get prompt to update), still the same problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion? I can't help but think I am having this problem because I have an unlocked phone.
I should also point out that just before doing all of this I rooted the handset, (followed instructions from Unlockr.com). I had planned to use a custom ROM but if i'm honest it was daunting and so I thought i'd attempt the official update first.

[Q] HTC Desire HD new update 1.83.415.4

Hi, I've just received the newest OTA update from HTC, the new version is 1.83.415.4. I was wondering does anyone know what new features or fixes this update provides compared to my older 1.32.405.6.
First thing I've noticed is the phone is lot quicker. Seriously, I cant believe how much quicker my phone is now.
Cheers..
i got this on my unbranded phone yesterday here in Australia.
the phone is noticeably aster, i'd say between 10% - 20% in some cases. no idea what changed, still looking for a changelog.
hi,
i got mine just this morning (Android ver. 2.2 ; Software # 1.83.415.4) . but dont know what changes made on my phone yet?
Edit: i saw some post and they think this update is for the Arabic support.
I've got a Unlocked/Unbranded DHD here in Australia and i haven't gotten it yet
I did download the update (Android ver. 2.2 ; Software # 1.83.415.4)
but can't install it (my DHD is rooted)
it crashed when restating the phone (in visionary+ I did the "unroot now" option)
Please Help
Arabic seconded
I also think this is mainly for Arabic support based on the search results I've done for this update. I have an unlocked DHD in New Zealand (parallel import I supposed) and the case had arabic script on it.
how can I install this update while the phone is rooted please?
I can confirm it's for "Arabic" support.
Although after installing it, I've noticed misplaced text in some "English" apps like "GPS test".
A Representative from HTC told me that the update also fixed a GPS bug which caused the phone to take a lot of time to get a proper location fix, but I didn't notice any improvements concerning the GPS ( I feel it got even worse ).
Actually I'm waiting for fixes concerning the following problems :
1. Ring Volume ( it's not so bad, but sometimes I miss some calls )
2. Fix GPS lock/fix time ( It might take up to 30 minutes to get a proper fix )
3. Fix the garbage HD video recording
4. HTCsense.com which doesn't work at all ( sometimes I can make the phone ring ), I can't believe how they keep advertising about this !!
And it would be actually great if they update the phone to Gingerbread
not installing at all
hi everyone ...
i download that update but it didnt install ... once i press Install now and OK, i go to black screen and it start unpacking ... but it stops unpacking and showsn android with white triangle and exclamation mark
it keeps like that till i remove the battery ... that is after 10 min of freez
i'm running the stock rom but rooted and s-off .... any help
For those who have rooted phones, you need to reflash with an official RUU ROM.
The update is good, but they changed the original Sense keyboard with one that is really bad.
installed this update 2 days ago
Hi All,
Got the update available message 2 days ago and downloaded the 37mg firmware/software in Brisbane QLD Australia. Unbranded HTC Desire HD with all western country locale - after the update I found the keyboard to only be Arabic and limited set of middle-east english - ie: had to select English(Kuwait) as the closest thing to English (Australia) or US.
Since 2 days ago I have read about 1000 websites and forums trying to get the standard keyboard back, have tried the apps that load more locales - they don't fix the keyboard - did get the HTC_IME_hi22.apk to work as a workaround (but I'd like to have a standard keyboard)
Even tried to factory reset the phone and when its starts I get the same limited Arabic countries to select from.
Does anyone know how I can get a full download of the previous firmware/software to load from my SD card?
And for future, does anyone know how I can tell HTC that this phone is a western english based phone?
PS - If your in Australia I recommend not loading this new release until you do some research.
Important Questions about 1.83.415.4
Dear all,
i'm trying to post here all the questions asked regarding the new OTA update and if you have a sure answer please reply:
1) is there any official changes in this update other than supporting arabic and replacing the Keyboard.
2) for those who did apply the update, what changes you did notice on your devices
3) for rooted s-offed devices running 1.32.405.6 that cannot install the update, how we do reflash using official RUU (link to the RUU please)
4) after reflashing official RUU and installing the new update, can we root and s-off the device again
5) to solve iPhone_convert issue, can someone advice him ??

[Q] Don't get the European Update

Hey guys,
I have flashed the European stock ROM from here on my Sensation, since it has a branded (German Vodafone) ROM.
However, I don't get the notification for the update, which is currently spread out in Europe, for the new market etc.
Also when I search for updates, it shows me that I have the current version on my phone.
Why is that so?
Have you tried searching for an update by your own? And what version are you running.
Btw. I think the market update is only for USA.
Yes, I tried to search for the update on my own with the sensation.
I am running:
1.45.401.2 with Android 2.3.4

Try to do a reset of your phone. That should do it.
You first need to get 1.45.401.3, then you'll be offered 1.50.401.1

Can I flash that without loosing my data, just like the over the air updates?
Btw. I rooted my Sensation, might this be the reason why I don't get the over the air update?
No, even on rooted phones, it will give the notification and let you download. Only at the time of installation phone will give message that you have tempered with your phone
But I cant say why you are not getting the update. I think it could be because your phone is branded. May be the update is released for unbranded phones only, till now.

Nope, my phone was branded at first, but I flashed 2.3.4 (
RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed) from this thread

to unbrand it.
Sorry for double post, but doesn't anyone have a solution for that?

Does really nobody has a clue about a solution to this problem?
Is there maybe a possibility to do the update on my own without loosing my data?
Hey F-Styla,
What is your current CID? Maybe the OTA is CID dependant and the phone is not seeing the update. When I first got my Sensation, I also debranded my phone by setting up CID 032 and flashing RUU 1.24xxx (I don't remember which one exactly) and then it got all the updates. My current version is 1.50.401.1.
PS Did you also try to manually check for the update from Settings? Sometimes the phone is too dump to see it by itself, even if you have mobile/wireless network.

[Q] How to save the OTA update file

Hi all.
As I said in my previous posts I'm waiting for a operator branded HTC Desire S.
I've read just now that the operator realeased an update few days ago (on 17th of february) and I'd like to know if there is a way to save the update file for future use (warranty purpose mainly).
Infact there is no file for the original brand firmware so if I debrand my phone I'll lose the warranty!
In this case if I can save the update file I can go back to my operator firmware solving the problem!
Thank you in advance!

I think what you'd want in this case is probably a RUU. What it does is basically return your phone completely to stock, removing anything you might have done to it. You can find a list of them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
I would recommend creating a goldcard to reduce the chance of any error and to help it go smoothly if you ever decide to do it.
Hi dan.
I've read that very useful thread but my operator firmware is not listed there.
So I'd loke to know if there is a way to get the image file from the OTA update (I think it's saved somewhere... but I don't know where!)
Can I ask what network branding your phone has? I'm not entirely sure how to download an OTA update for a stock rom so not entirely sure how to get the ROM from it. Maybe someone can shed some light here. I'm not entirely good with RUUs.
On a side note, if you're going to install custom ROMs I would recommend not updating just to make it easier to install custom ROMs.

I'm waiting for a Desire S branded from TIM Italy.
As I said, right now there is no way to find the original branded firmware but now that there is this update maybe it can be catched!!!
