Why do I need SuperUser? - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

Can someone please explain why it is I need SuperUser installed?
Am I right in assuming that it's a permissions app and will stop root programs from running for security reasons?
Because I'm getting tired of having to always allow root apps to run. SuperUser is always popping up, even if I check remember. Like for example SetCPU or ShootMe apps, when you run them SuperUser kicks in asking permission to run.

Yes, it stops unauthorized apps from gaining root.
Although, it shouldn't ask for permissions every time unless you screwed something up terribly.

Ok, so if I restart the phone or log-out, SuperUser will ask for permissions again, even though I set them to be 'remember' before?

No. It should only ask once. Unless you uninstall the app and reinstall.

That's what I thought. I wonder how I can resolve this issue with superuser.

I had the same problem with the last version (2.2 i think) of Superuser so, i reverted back to the old version (2.1).

Ahh, then than's my problem, I have 2.2. Anyone have the direct link to 2.1?

Try it ...
Is from the root v1

Anyone have a link to the working 2.1. I wonder if a new version of this is in the works.

Two possibilities are -
1: You did not root properly
2: You did not provide root access for ROM Manager via the Superuser .apk (allow button that pops up)
Go to superuse permissions and see what apps. You allowed to use superuser. The ones you allowed well have. A green box. Next to it.
Ones you denied have a red box next to it.

I guess it is possible that I didn't root right.
I followed directions to a T, flashed several different roms, kernals, use wifi tether and shootme with no issues.
I do have green dot in superuser.
Could it be possible that I can't fix permissions because it is a stock rooted rom?
I'm assuming you did the 3 step root process? Chances are you need to run step 3 a couple more times until your device restarts itself. Try it out.

I had this problem with the 3 step root. You can try booting into cwm choose advance and the choose fox permissions from there.

Are we calling the three step root the one jcase did? I followed his pretty much the same day he posted it.

Same thing here. I get failed tryingto run privileged command.
Also running stock rooted

Go into Superuser and make sure you didn't miss the Allowance of Rom Manager. Tap it in SU and clear it. Then reopen RM again and hit allow when it asks you for permissions.
If you flashed ROM's and have root permissions in all other apps... There's not much else it could be.
All else fails... Clear data and uninstall RM and reinstall it.

Trouble Rooting and Installing Cyanogen

Superuser is force closing on me. Any ideas? I had root for a minute at least, and gave titanium permission when it requested, but now when I go in, it force closes superuser. Frustrating.

download busybox and try upgrading your superuser, might work..
What ROM are you running? Older versions of SU turned out to be incompatible with the TB, but if you're on BAMF 1.6+, then the fixed SU is included, so FC's and other problems shouldn't happen.
I have one of the early manual root setups. It has always worked flawlessly for me. There is a sticky on the dev sub forums here with step by step. I have CM7 installed now with no issues using that method.

That sounds about right. CM7 has the new SU included as far as I know. This just sounded familiar because I was on BAMF 1.5 when that came out and I was also having problems with SU force closing, but a new APK released by ChainsDD fixed that for me. Best of luck!

Spontaneous loss of root privileges on CM 7.1

So I'm running CM 7.1 stable with Matr1x 8.0 cfs and I went to turn on my tethering yesterday and I got a toast notification saying I was unable to start tethering due to an inability to gain root access. As of a few minutes ago, I am unable to gain root access with titanium backup, wireless tether, or the terminal emulator.
Has anyone ever seen something like this, or know what may be wrong?
Thanks in advance

I tried updating from within SU and the prompt showed up, I accepted, and I got a toast saying that Superuser had been granted SU permissions. Then the update failed from lack of root privileges. Titanium Backup and the terminal are still not able to gain access

[Q] BIG Problem with Super User Permission!

Okay so everytime i open an App that needs a super user permission, a notification shows up saying my "#su binary" is outdated. So I tried updating it but it fails. I researched and read somewhere to update is manually. So i downloaded an Su Binary and replaced the old one with this new one. It worked and all but heres the problem. The old apps that are granted Superuser Permission is no longer in the list. When i open them it says "superuser not granted" and doesn't give me the option to allow or always allow.
So here's my question, how to i allow superuser permission again?
You have to get busybox from the market first then u can update superuser

T_T It was denied superuser Access, also rom manager is denied superuser access. How do i fix this
Sorry for double post but after using the Root checker, i found out my phone was no longer rooted. So i used oneclickuser again and rooted it. It returned it to Su Binary v2.3.1-ef from v3. The build and the baseband version are still the same. Yay, i think i just messed up on replacing that SU file instead of actaully updating it.
Well I hadthe same issue then installed busybox and it fixed it. But deleting something something u need someone that can help more than me lol. All else fails start over ...... I just learn by xda what I did wrong and if that don't work I start from scratch lol. Hopefully. Someone will help u soon.

Keep seeing "shell has been granted superuser permissions"

Why do I keep getting this message???

I started getting this a bunch earlier today. Phone was incredibly sluggish when this was happening. It took multiple reboots before it stopped and phone started acting like normal
I'm getting the same message quite often running SynergyROM 1.6. Not sure what's causing it.

My GF is on stock (but rooted) and will once in a while get that too... I never do though on Synergy, unless of course I'm trying to access something that needs root.
It has something to do with the superuser binary 3.1.1
Keep superuser installed, download SuperSU from the play store and upon opening it youll get a prompt to update the binary. Do that, uninstall superuser and no more popups, just use supersu instead of superuser from now on.

He does mean literally uninstall superuser. SuperSU and Superuser are both apps used to manage root, they function just about the same. Before you go through the hassle, try updating the binary on Superuser. Open the app, flick to the right to info, click on the third option 'su binary'. The click update on the bottom. I

Do not un-install until after you install supersu. Run that first to give it permissions and to allow it to update. After that you can go into root explorer and delete superuser from the system/apps folder.

Don't worry about uninstalling Superuser. It's not the actual su binary in linux, it's just a management utility for storing root permissions. You'll keep your root.

Ive installer superSU and updated bianary and still getting this error. Its keeping me from using my keyboard and fcing applications left and right! Its so annoying.
I've also had this issue, and though it seems to have gotten better after a reboot... We'll see if it comes back. I had the same problems with keyboard not appearing and TW FCing along with the phone freezing up. I'm currently on stock rooted using the windows fsdebug app.

Hello,
I've been looking everywhere, and for some time to find a resolution to this issue that I could understand. I have a Samsung Galexy S3 that I've rooted. It has no changes, I only got it to use GameGuardian. While in games, the toast will pop up 3-6 times and then the game will shut down and I'll be back at my menu page. If I reopen the game it works normally. This happens whether or not GameGuardian is running. I am using superuser and have updated the binary. I have also found a post where someone changed to SuperSU and that has not solved the problem for them, but I have not tried this for myself. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do next. Also, I'm not very savvy, so please don't assume I know all the in-between steps. Leave anything out on the assumption that I should know it, and I'm going to get lost.
Thanks much
