[APP] Blinker V0.53 - charging LED & TrackBall alerts(SMS / CALL / BATTERY / SIGNAL)
Blinker - Charging LED
This app uses the charging LEDs to notify the user about...
*a recevied SMS
*a missed/rejected CALL
*battery charging process
*signal strengh value

Thanks for the app,
it works great with cm6 rc2 and plays nice with trackball alert pro!

Moved to theme and Apps

First off, great job on the app.
Bug, there are two icons in the app drawer.
Future possibility, adding other apps such as gtalk and gmail.
Will definitely be watching this app as it progresses.
Will report back if I noticed anything else.

Well done! nice app*

Just tested it on enom's latest and no luck. I love the idea and hope it gets worked out

Does anyone know how to receive missed/rejected call broadcasts or something like that?

would this work on Enomther 2.11.2?

Great work, I've been hoping for this for some time.
Works great on CM6 nightlys

Thanks for the app! If you're looking for any feature requests, how about things we can't do with the trackball alerts, like "bluetooth on" "wifi on" "networks available" "battery status" "silent/vibrate/volume status", etc. I realize there would be a concern about battery draw, but if it means that a person has to turn the screen on and off so many less times per day, it may make up for it (and then some).
Thanks again!
Billy

NotifyLight(Pulselight) v2.0.1 for G2 & G3 [update Dec 24]

Happy Christmas Eve!
NotifyLight 2.0.1
bugfix: force closed on setting "repeat times" to "forever".
NotifyLight 2.0 (beta)
1, include pulse light function, provide a config panel to set when to pulse and pulse interval.
2, missed call/mms/sms notify with configable trackball flash style, interval and repeat times.
NOTE that make sure your G2/G3 is rooted before install this soft.
Any advice would be welcomed.
------------------------------------------
DEMO video:
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/STIhIWb5K6I
CHANGELOG:
Pulselight v1.1
1, add a switch to ON/OFF.
2, add a "timing intervals for 'pulsing patterns' "
3, FIX: sometimes stop pulsing.
Pulselight v1.0
just pulse and pulse and pulse... never stop.
ENJOY!

i guess it makes your trackball 'breath' with fading lights, am I right? (much like the sandisk cruzer usb drive )
anyway will it somehow degrade the performance (esp. battery life) of the phone?
thanks.

it just make your phone much cool. you know, get and lost always comes together. but i use OverclockWidget to save battery, and light up the trackball when screen off. so i dont think the light reduce battery life.

you can use task manager to kill the service called net.wdinfo.
I would love to have this function as a notification for missed calls and/or unread messages. It should "breathe" from receiving the call/message until I read the notice - just like the LED (but it looks cooler ).

Yes please, that would be awesome! I've been searching for so long for such type of notification...
I'm really not interested in the "breath" thing actually, so maybe you could implement a sort of option where you can choose if you want breath or notifications....
I think an option to adjust the timing interval in which the device "breathes" would be ideal. That could really expand the functionality of this feature.
Keep it simple; but hopefully an "ON & OFF" option will appear in a future build as well.
Great work kenwudi.

Right on Kenwudi! I have been looking for this and actually wondering why someone hasn't put an app on the market yet. I will be paying very close attention to this thread for an update for notifications and missed called.
Btw, I don't know if this is possible, but is the dream/mt3g track ball capable of displaying different colors? This would make you some cash on the market if you could figure this out for different notifications.
Good work sir!

App to keep LED notification going for more than 5 minutes?

Hi,
Is there an app (working with the Sensation) that can make the LED notification light flash continually until you actually open the new message or am I stuck having to bring the phone out of sleep incessantly to check if anything new has come in?
Surely such an app would just eat battery up for no reason.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've been having a look at this myself,
(i am a noob when it comes to devolping apps)
but i was one first to get desire and there
was a command that you can run (without root)
to get the led to flash different colours length etc..
Tried this on the sensation and just get a file cannot be found.
(if you want to now the command then pm me or
il post it up not that it be much help)
so basically this means all existing apps with run on this old
command, so a new one will be needed when somebody figures
out the file name for the sensation led - then you can
just push a number to it using the echo command and itl work.
put into a java script and your done
wait so the notification light only lasts for 5 minutes? wtf?

The problem I'm having with NoLED is that I also use Handcent SMS and when you clear the NoLED notification screen it also closes the sms popup window. It's kind of annoying. A fix around that issue is the problem I'm having.
Just installed SMS Popup & it seems to have an option to repeat your reminder & can set an interval. It even turns on the screen which I missed!!!
Testing now.

Edit: yep, works perfectly. Only downside is you lose the awesome lockscreen feature of showing the envelope & text

Haha yes! And I've successfully converted a few others as well. I mainly use it because I can text via my work PC or my home PC. Texting with a full keyboard = a thousand times better
Plus saving on text messaging costs, and ease of porting number over yadda yadda
Anyway, I've been testing out NoLED today and it's a nice app but I don't like that it turns the entire screen on. Massive battery loss there.
Is there a better way?
from what I've read NoLED was made with an AMOLED screen in mind where black doesn't drain the battery because those LEDs are actually off
I've been using NoLED with Handcent. There is an option in NoLED that is Handcent specific that seems to keep the sms popup under the NoLED notification. Just unlock NoLED with the volume rocker and the popup window will remain open. Only downside is when the phone is on vibrate you will be constantly taking the phone out of vibrate mode to unlock NoLED to view sms popups. At that point you'd have to use the home or back key to unluck NoLED but it will dismiss the sms popup. So NoLED is ALMOST a nice fix. Gonna use it for now until something better comes along.

After going through all the app's options and menus extensively, I now have it set to disable the screen via the proximity sensor (ie if in my pocket etc).
Now I'm trying to use the Blink feature so if my phone is on a table or somewhere exposed, the screen isn't 100% on. Rather, it turns off/on periodically.
However, it seems the Blink feature doesn't work on the Sensation? When I get a notification, the screen never turns on.
If I disable blink, it works again right away (but then the screen is on 100% of the time when not in my pocket).
Anyone else experienced this?

[APP][2.1+] TeslaLED 3.0 beta

TeslaLED is an LED flashlight app for many phones. TeslaLED has been out for over a year, but TeslaLED 3.0 beta is a fresh rewrite (giving me an test bed to try some new development ideas and tools).
Features of TeslaLED:
LED Flashlight
Strobe/Morse Code
Keep LED on with screen off (May flicker once)
Different widget styles
Free and No ads
TeslaLED is known to work on the following devices. It may work on other devices as well, but may require changing the "LED Method" in preferences.
Nexus One, Nexus S
Motorola Droid, Droid X, Droid 2, Atrix
HTC EVO, Droid Incredible, Thunderbolt, Desire, Desire HD, MyTouch 3G Slide, T-Mobile G2, Legend
Galaxy S II i9100
Galaxy S Epic and Fascinate (Strobe/Morse code do not work)
Galaxy Tab 7" and 10.1"
Xoom
Acer A500
I'm looking for bug reports (especially features of phones that broke since the Market version 2.0.4)
Download Link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.flashlight

Note: My google-alerts show this APK spreading to pirate sites. The app is free so this isn't a big deal, but if doing so can you link back here?
Great app.
Thanks.

It won't hurt to have both installed (This is actually how I tested and compared, using TeslaLED Donate 2.0.4 and TeslaLED (non-donate) 3.0beta ), however having both installed means when going to add the widget you'll see both listed as TeslaLED with the same icon so it's a bit confusing. On my devices the 2nd option was the 3.0 beta but I'm not sure how android sorts that list so it might vary.
Have you thought about pulsing the signal to the LED so quickly that it emulates a true PWM feature or using the built in PWM on the LED in most phones to create pulsing or breathing LED with variable speeds or patterns.
I would love to help you with it and we could add the one good Apple thing to our phones that they don't even have on the iPhone.
Sound Cool?

Unfortunately the LED APIs are more like desktop APIs rather than microcontroller APIs (or bits to twiddle I guess).
HTC's is best which gives variable brightness (most likely implemented by an internal PWM) and responds quickly and is easy to use (write to a file in /sys/devices).
Standard/Standard+ are using the camera APIs which are a bit slow and have the choice of either on or off
TeslaLED's strobe at 20Hz stutters once in a while when using the camera API and PWM would need much higher than 20Hz.
With root or a custom kernel I'm sure you could have a bit more control over the flash, but it'd likely be rather device specific and still might not even lead to true PWM control as the camera might have it's own private controller that is slow to accept commands.
Runs great on Stock Samsung Galaxy SII
1000 Thanks man!

Beta 3 runs great on the Incredible (Sense)! Love the new Sense styled widget. Thanks!!!
Got problems on my Galaxy S2, I started the LED, either using widget locker or using the widget on my home screen, then after the screen goes off, the led goes off then on again (which I believe is normal). If I wait a further 15 seconds approximately then the LED goes off again and this time stays off.
At this point both the widget won't work to turn it back on or off, nor the built in widget for widget locker. I can however close it using the notification bar. When I try to close it using the above methods I get a force close error:
"The application TeslaLED (process com.teslacoilsw.flashlight) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
This is the case for both beta 3 and the released version of the software. I've sent a bug report.

I have a Galaxy S2 now and I was wondering why I couldn't reproduce the problems people said they had, even when I was using the old version. It seems the wait 15 seconds, with the device not plugged into a computer, is key. It also makes it much more difficult to get debug logs.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any tricks to get the LED to stay on with the screen off, so I'm going to need to disable that ability on the GS2. Keeping the screen on works and TeslaLED has a (disabled by default) "Dim Screen" page you can use to have a fake-screen-off. Not perfect though (and only accessible from the app).

I upgraded my X10 to the official 2.3.3 before I put a Cyanogen, and I loved the ability to set the color of the LED according to the different events. Clearly this possibility is still not yet a basic functionality. Do you know an application capable of doing as well as in the rom Cyanogen.

Hi,
Did you guys manage to find any app for official SE LED notificataions on cyanogen ROM?

Light Flow

Has anyone been able to get Light Flow to work on the OnePlus One? I like light flow a lot better than the CM notification center, but I just can't seem to get it to work.
Has anyone here getten it to work? If so, mind sharing your settings?
So far I've had one person say it worked and two not!
Can you try and see if led color tester by coolbeans works on the phone (with lightflow either not installed or disabled) and let me know if that works?
I'm interested in this as well. I enjoy Lightflow so much more than any of the other notification apps I've tried. I'll be heartbroken if it doesn't work...

Hello. I'm a big fan of your work (been using on the N4 and N5).
I also have this app on my OnePlus One. I noticed that up until the most recent build that all my notifications were working. Gmail and stuff were all fine.
Is it me or did the latest build change something? When notifications come in I get a white light blinking. When I power my screen on and off again it seems like Light Flow then registers, and now I get green pulses.
I'm not sure if its the most recent build of Light Flow or if its because I added a second Gmail account). I am rooted so I'm on root mode, but maybe some of my settings are whacked?

Yep, have the same "issue". Before the last Update everything was fine..
No Light Flow issues here.

Some apps need to have their own LED setting disabled for LF to work properly since the last version.

You sir are a hero. It no longer requires me to use Gravity Box UNC to override settings.
Question: Do you recommend for high end phones like the N5 and OPO to run in foreground or background? I see no issues with background on my OPO and the app doesn't get killed at all.
Second question: You're still going to roll out global settings someday right? Having to change speeds for every app is a bit annoying, or even custom blink settings.
Final question: Is it possible to adjust the brightness for the LED? I see a brightness option in the sleep options for night blinking, but adjustments for individual notifications? Would be nice to have global for this too

On the N5 I find it does work better with the option on, without it once every few days maybe it'll get killed off by android (which is fairly normal for any background service) so it'll miss a notification.

There's a global option for this (in lightflow, settings, general settings, led brightness), but not individual, you'd just have to use the custom color option at the moment.
Lightflow works for me.
I can't get LF working, or if it does work it just flashes white. I'm 100% stock/unrooted so is there anything else I need to activate to get it working? I had no issues with my previous Nexus 4/5 so it must be something silly!
EDIT: Reinstalled and seems to be working OK now, so obviously something I did wrong!
Thanks for the help @andrewpmoore
Is it possible to have the lights on even when the screen on? Is that the "Samsung direct mode?" I don't believe that worked on my other non Samsung devices, so I doubt it will work on the OPO.
I ask because CM's battery LED seems to by default remain on even when the screen is on or off.

Correction! There seems to be a small glitch: At the end of Charging when switching to Charged it seems to start switching between Charging and Charged rather than just using the Charged notification.
I've a fix coming for switching between charged and charging.
What 'Device Settings' is everyone running to make this work? Is anyone using:
Direct Mode?
Samsung root mode?
Reset color before change?
Nexus 5 force LED reset?
For some reason mine works for a period of time than I start getting SMS's and it stops working. I restart the app, but it doesn't continue to work again. Not sure what's going on.

Correction! There seems to be a small glitch: At the end of Charging when switching to Charged it seems to start switching between Charging and Charged rather than just using the Charged notification.

The glitch seems to have exploded... nothing seems to be working now... not mail, not sms ... nothing. Tried to enable the root option but it makes no difference

What 'Device Settings' is everyone running to make this work? Is anyone using:
Direct Mode?
Samsung root mode?

The Nexus 5 thing is the only box I have checked (must've been by default since I didn't do it).

Not having any issues... maybe backup your notification settings and then wipe and restore them. Ensure LF has the proper notifications access, etc.

Nope. Nothing. Tried to clear the cache and data. Tested the notifications and nothing... Checked Notification access and tried enabling root mode. Still nothing... Phone is stock though rooted.
