Great! Hopefully we're gonna see r/w on /system too, soonish!
sorry this will sound stupid but what does these kernel sources allow devs to do?? I thought gaining root access was the most important thing in customizing stock roms..

+1, Love to see some of the marvellous nexus kernels ported to desire. And fully ported Enomther and Cyanogen rom.
Yeah full Cyanogen would be great too.
Can somebody provide a /proc/config.gz from a stock Desire?
Also, anybody want to try OC-UV on the Desire?

This is not from the stock desire rom. But all roms up to now use the default kernel, so here you go, I had to recompress it for upload purposes.

If my understanding is correct...this will allow custom ROMs with the Sense UI to be created and hopefully...fully functional.
Customized Sense ROM with 100% working bluetooth
this will be a busy week end for cooks!
I think the first thing on the agenda is to Port Peshoots OC Kernal with a fully functioning CM 5.07
Get to work guys))))))

That means we will be able to get Android 2.2 Froyo when it will be available for Nexus One ?
There is a new leak of gingerbread out for the SGS over in the I9000, and apparently this is supposed to be version that will be the official release.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009177
Nice, hopefully it doesn't take forever to see it officially released like it did with Froyo!
Waiting for source
I'm not too worried about AT&T, I believe once the source is released we will have many official releases XDA style
once the source is out we will have it. thank god for xda! and of coarse supercurio! i have been rocking out to music for the last couple days thanks to voodoo sound, not that the sound was bad before but now i can really appreciate it. also getting some better iem's (in ear monitors) the samsung ones are ok, well for an included accessory they are amazing but nothing compared to what is out there. i wouldnt think about getting a different phone right now. but i will see if the infuse has the hifi wolfson amp in it. the galaxy s 2 looks amazing but makes me wonder what will be out when i am up for a new contract.
Neat, hope the source appears sooner rather than later after the official release.
Lol... I must be losing it. And official sgs 2.3 leaks and this is the extent of the discussion. .... Lol wtf.
most people are more excited by cm7 for some reason. this is what i will use as soon as a reorient kernel comes about, all i can do is hope the source is realesed shortly. i think it was available pretty quick after jpx/jpy were released so i think it wont take long.
Nevermind

Regardless... It's a big deal. And none of the other threads made it very far. At all.
Go look at the i9000 forums. They're littered with posts and 2.3 sgs roms. All we have are crickets.
To be fair, we don't have the source available, so the leaked rom is kind of useless to us. It's a neat novelty, just to flash for a few minutes to see what's in store, but it's definitely not something you would use daily.
Just downloaded the Rom.. anyone know of a good kernel to use with this rom?? will CM7 kernel work with this rom? since its 2.3.3

Highly doubtful.. It should come with a compatible kernel and modem packaged in to it.
I wouldn't flash it straight through odin if I were you, though. If you have access to a linux machine, you should repackage it as a cwm flashable zip that doesn't flash boot or sbl, otherwise you risk either perma-bricking your phone or locking your bootloader.
My memory must be going. I remember us having ported i9000 2.2 roms well before the source dropped.

Stock kernel will boot, but there will be sound logic, screen orientation, button mapping...... problem list extends
Not until Sammy realeses the source code of GS gingerbread ROM that we can have reoriented kernels.

No... We didn't have reoriented kernel until JPM source was released. And before that, we were playing with the leak JI6 Captivate Froyo.
Guess it's time to start taking vitamins.

Vibrant owners have a port of this already, so yes it would seem that reorienting can be done without source, but devs aren't touching this for some reason...I really hope that changes cause I want to try this out but don't have the knowledge base to try to reorient the kernel myself and don't have time to learn currently.
No source, no kernel, no ROM. That simple.

We have all been waiting very patiently, but we finally have it, AHEAD of schedule. The source code for the LG 2.3.3 OTA update is now available. You can either download it straight from LG's open source site or via the mirror I created. Enjoy!
LG's Open Source Site: Link
Download Link
Let the custom kernels\builds begin........May the source be with you!
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but does this source have any value to the 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 roms? For the longest time I was using X boarders OTA Tweak, but recently switched to EB 1.08 (2.3.5) and love it .
Will this code bring the 2.3.3 roms to a whole new level where I might want to go back. Will this allow Whitehawkx and Doniqcc to fix a few of there issues in theit 2.3.3 roms?
Just wondering what this means? Maybe it just means an OC / UV Kernel which would be great too, especially if Faux can get voodoo working on 2.3.3.

That'd be nice, but most likely not. They aren't waiting for the kernel source for a2dp on .3.4 and .3.5, they're waiting on the source code from nvidia. As nice as it'd be, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
Still, this is very good news either way.
I do agree that it is good news. I was really just curious.

Probably not, this will just hel for custom kernels for 2.3.3. Our issue with 2.3.4 adn 2.3.5 has to do with missing source\technical specs from Nvidia, which we may never get. Its not that AOSP (2.3.4, 2.3.5, Cm7) isnt compatible for the G2x, it just doesnt have the necessary drivers and such. The talented CM7 team (mainly CM-Arcee) has done a fantastic job of writing drivers for battery and other functions from scratch, because this source is made for the LG build which is NOT AOSP, despite looking like it. Hope that clears up the source issue and eliminates the "will this fix X,Y, or Z in 2.3.5, CM7, etc"....probably not.
As lge had released source code for 2.3.3 , will this help to solve rooting issue with 2.3.3 ota / lg update utility.??

I have picked up an old project I was working on, getting Eclair on our phones.
Now you might think, why Eclair, it is much older than Froyo and we already have Gingerbread!?
The answer is simple, just because we do not have Eclair roms for our phones
Some people here think newer is always better, but that is not always the case
Eclair is already booting, but I have some FC's and launcher does not work correctly. Neither any other things work.
I was trying to get a logcat, but could not connect using adb.
Perhaps someone else can give me a solution for enabling adb?
What did I use to get eclair booting up?
Froyo bootimage
Compiled Eclair using Froyo-libs and kernel.
If you want to take a look at it, here is a pre-pre-alpha where nothing works
It is not the latest, because I'm already solving some problems.

First: Congrats
Second: Provide some logcat, maybe you have same problem as mine in OMFGB (missing resources in apks)
Third: Upload to your gitHub,I'll have a look
BTW: Could you check if you have any /build/core/kernel.mk? Really getting mad with that error on CM6.
Could not get any logcat
But it's solved
Launcher is working now!
Updated build.prop, checked if some files existed, but some were missing.
Guess I forgot something in device-files
Now working on sd-card mounting, gsm and wifi, if these are fixed I will provide an updated zip (this zip contains generic build.prop )

Non-working RIL could be caused from three things:
You missed LG services into makefiles/.rc files (if you want I can PM you some strings to add to .rc files)
Wrong libs (easy to check)
Non-prelinked libraries (define TARGET_PRELINKER_MAP (or some like that) into device_thunderg.mk and modify prelink-linux-arm-msm7xx7 or some like that with names of unlinked libs. You can see what stuff isn't prelinked with a debugging-enabled linker you can find into Swift-sense Mur4iK GT540 post. For prelink address, use google because I don't know
Would this have any actual speed benefit?
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
You will absolutely encounter speed differences with Gingerbread.
You will even have more space available, romsize is rather small

No, this one is just AOSP with some LG crap
And booting using original LG Froyo kernel for now
Seems most compatible
Perhaps later a custom kernel will be used

Hi guys, if you would like to comment or update about the source code samsung released "GT-I9003_ICS_Opensource_Update2.zip", please do it here as we might end up flooding CM9's Dev page. The source code is currently unverified to be ICS, but a way to prove it is to compile it. The link for download is http://opensource.samsung.com/index.jsp;jsessionid=7E99B73BEA4F448F1DAEB4DBFC99A47D
UPDATE: I've Uploaded the mediafire link for the source code: http://www.mediafire.com/?455nefl2w8o81a8
Although some people said that it is not ics, but it need to test and complied, to test it is a value pack or really a ics

First up we do not need crappy Samsung software that makes ICS look like gb. One thing is for certain that Samsung wont be releasing any ICS rom for our device. If this is some kind of source code of ICS for our device then I guess a few lib files would help. The value pack didn't help dhiru in anyway, I hope this helps him out a little. There are just a few minor bugs in the CM9 rom by dhiru which will be fixed soon, hopefully. CM team is going to release a stable ICS SC and after that they wont be working on ICS (not sure about this) as they are shifting focus to CM10.
Anyway .. all these hour we are predicted without any confirm ..
What I think is real ics source which it the best thing in world ..
Just we need confirm and try from dev which will be around time ..
If it real that mean we will have most stable room that mix stock with it ..
I've uploaded the source code on mediafire, check the first post
The thing I feel is that.. .
When they ll be building official ICS for our phone , they might have achieved quite close to a stable fw but as everybody know that due to Samsung touchwiz the ram consumption would be very high and they might have left the development of the Rom.
But I feel still its the complete ics fw otherwise why would they upload source code for an incomplete fw.
Let's just wait until someone with some knowledge discovers what version this actually is, i would be very disappointed if it wasn't ICS, the naming got many people excited.

Yea, let's all just calm down, and wait for a reply from dhiru1602 or any dev, as to what exactly is it.
why would they be naming it ics open source if it wasnt ics...duh
In the readmekernel it names to new kernel XXXXX GINGERBREAD....so..i doubt ics
Guys dont u think so that we are discussing un-necessary things...!! It look like we have got a lottery ticket & we are discussing that shall we get money from that ticket or not.
Whatever this source is but dhiru & other experienced developer will check & they will tell us whether it is useful or not Till then have some patience...! Just wait & watch...!
