CyanogenMod on Captivate? - Captivate General

Should I put the CyanogenMod on my captivate? I've read if I do that though, I won't be able to upgrade to Froyo when it comes out.

there is no version of cyanogen for the captivate yet.

i think this calls for a "bounty" anyone down?

there is no need for a bounty.
A couple members of the cyanogenmod team are already working on getting CM6 alpha on the captivate.
If you would like to support cyanogenmod you can go to there site http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
and on the right side click "donate".

thank you

you can follow their progress here.

They finished the initial setup for the galaxy s!

-_- i can't post a link that shows how to flash cyanogenMod on captivate because i'm a new user but google "cyanogenmod for captivate" and click the third link (it should be the wikia one)

lol my fault -_-. i guess i need to read more carefully, i got too excited and missed that part.
Truly am sorry.

This thread says 6.1 will support the Galaxy S series. Hopefully that'll include the Captivate.
The team just released 6.1 RC1, so hopefully 6.1 by Q1-2011....?

CyanogenMod has to be available for the captivate soon. Waiting and waiting..

Great first post
A few threads down from the top of the first page...

Cool story bro.

New to Android, just got Captivate; root, etc.

Just got a Samsung Galaxy Captivate (Rogers) and I'm a complete noob to Android.
I know it's running 2.1 out-of-the-box but I'd like to get 2.2 (Froyo) on it. I read the Wiki and saw some unofficial 2.2 releases.
First of all, are the unofficial release stable? Do you first have to root to install an unofficial release?
Is it better to wait for the official Samsung 2.2 release, then root the phone?
Does rooting the phone automatically get rid of all the Samsung customizations or is there more work that has to be done after to get the system to a native Android OS state?
I'm sure these questions have been asked by other noobs many times, but I've done some searching and reading and still a little confused.
If you help me now, I'll help other noobs in the future, I promise

There are a lot of questions already on the Q&A forum about this. Which no one knows for sure yet. So be patient.

Hi Friends,
XDA Elite Recognized Developer codeworkx (CyanogenMod Menmber) of Team Hacksung has conducted the Poll for Galaxy SII I9100G Model and 1,075 people voted that they want CM, so he purchased the mobile and started development and now they are having official CM9 Nightlie Build.
So i started this post and want to check how many of us want and if we are also having people more than 1000+ we can send this results to CM Team and request them.

A poll had been made for Galaxy R on the CM forums itself. There were around 300-400 votes, even then no dev has shown interest in making a ROM for our device. I don't know where this is going to go unless some CM dev himself conducts a poll.

if we get good number of voters for our device we can atleast show them the count and request them, i am also not sure if they may or may not help us but just a try from our side .
I'm sorry but I am afraid nobody has ever ported CM just because a large army of users wanted it. It's kinda obvious that every android community desires a CM. From my experience... if devs are not interested by themselves even 10000 votes won't make them change their mind.
What can help is contacting some devs direct and donating phone (if they are willing to help).

yep agreed with this, we have ported builds of cm7 and cm9 but because of lack of dev support we r far behind, we need cm dev himself show interest in developing cm for sgr.
I guess if CM7 or CM9 comes to this phone ... there wud be more demand of this phone and a possible revival of its sales .... Maybe sammy comes with SGR2

Is there someone from Germany here who owns a R ? If anyone has it in Germany then could you lend your device to codeworks for sometime if possible as this could be a good opportunity for getting dev support for our device.
If you know someone from Germany who owns a R then do request him/her to help codeworks.
See , that's the difficulty of devving a device :/
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?

Common man don't do that it doesn't help. At least help in getting some devs interested in developing CM 9 for Galaxy R instead.
I don't think anybody will be interested in lending his/her device for testing and risking possible brick. I guess donation thread is the only option. SGR is not that expensive today, plus it doesn't have to be a brand new and there are many users eagerly waiting for cm. Just make sure codeworkx will be actually working on it, cos right now he just said that without device there's nothing he can do, and it's not actually the same: "buy me a phone and I'll do it for you"

[REQ] Android 4.2.1/2 ROM for Galaxy Victory 4G LTE

If possible, I'm willing to donate $100 or more to a developer that is willing to cook up a Jellybean 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 custom rom for the VM Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE. Possibly an AOKP rom. I'm currently running cmbaughman's PACMAN rom atm and I love it. So if it is possible, $100 donation goes to the first runner up.
(sorry about the placement of the post, I didn't know where else to post it since there is no SGV forum threads)

work in progress ... updated 2 days ago...
It's being worked on. The Galaxy S3 (d2) and the Victory (goghspr) are similar, but not exactly the same. The display is different, and there are not any other devices I can find with the same display as the goghspr. WIFI is not the same, BT is not the same, etc. There is already a booting CM-10 for the goghspr, but I stopped work on it to move to CM-10.1. The link you provided is to the post of a guy I'm also working with, g60madman. Give us time. I'm working on the kernel when I can (I'm disabled and have a new painful injury to deal with). The apexqtmo guys have been very helpful and are allowing me to dig through their work to get some stuff for the goghspr/goghvmu kernel. I already have cm-10.1 building, but it won't boot until I get the drivers ported. Create thread with the device name and show the generation of interest as often as possible. I've already requested a dedicated forum, but there needs to be a real NEED for it before we can get it. Cheers and out!

Thanks for the support. There is not a forum on XDA for this device. There are two on androidforums. I have ported cwm and twrp and have released a faster kernel and some other junk too. I think others have some stuff there too. Hit my github link and you'll see some repos and forks for other guys basing off my work. g60madman just patched our kernel up and he's setting up for cm-10.1 for the goghvmo. Again, take a look. We're legit. My time is limited during school break and i am disabled so progress goes in spurts. Cheers and out!

Maybe this will help:
http://www.oudhitsquad.com/android/Samsung/SPH-L300/Mod/recovery/TWRP-2.5.tar
Remember, uncheck auto-reboot. Once flash is finished, pull USB cable and battery. Replace battery and boot directly into recovery using VOLUP+POWER until blue letters are seen in upper left corner. Release buttons. That should get you going. Use goomanager to update to TWRP 2.6
