Froyo port for Omnia i8000 at all? - General Questions and Answers

Now...I've seen ports for almost every possible HTC device out there that are less powerfull tan omnia i8000...Why arent there any ports for omnia i8000...I tried the HTC HD2 port of Froyo with haret.exe...and i cant get it to work...maybe i'm doing something wrong or it maybe because it is a port for yet another HTC device...
Are there any at all?

It's been like a month..and i wanna ask that again..so bump...HD2 gets everything...

Well, it seems it's only you and me. Me and you hope this device able to run Froyo at least. Any other? I think it's difficult pherahaps because drivers for i.e. Galaxy S hardware aren't good for i8000 hardware. Pherhaps (but I don't know really) HTC deserves less differences between its devices. I can say only I am very very sad.
I already got Galaxy Tab, but it's so painful to see i8000 at the terminus.

Android 2.1 on Omnia 2 progress
Hey guys, don't miss me out...I'm an Omnia i8000 user too...i heard that the development of Android 2.1 on our Omnia are still under going...so probably more patience in order to get a functional Android on our phone. (It won't be long I think as currently they already received news back from Samsung.)
By the way, below is some link which shows the progress of Android development.(No fake videos and links, all are uploaded from the members of Omnia2droid).
Seriously, just check 'em out and you will know that our Omnia 2 are still not dead yet and somebody out there are currently putting their effort in porting Android to Omnia i8000.
But for the Android Froyo, I think the one that they currently developing is Android 2.1 Eclair, but they claimed that they will port to Android Froyo as soon as the Android 2.1 was fully working on our Omnia 2.

Touch HD or Omnia2

Hay guys,
I am getting a new PDA, I have tytn now and it has served me good.
Could you give me your look on this two models, I am thinking about Samsung, since it has much better specs and display, but I got used to touchflo 3D interface a lot...
Is it possible to put it on Omnia?
Your answer will be appreciated and will help me decide what to buy.
Thanks!
There is one added value for choosing HD
The sup`port of this fantastic site!!
Just because of that I´ll choose HD even if omnia has better specs...
Yes, that is bothering me too...
Well if you're not gonna flash your device or use Touch Flo 3D or any other ported software, than get Omnia 2.
You will still be able to get support in this forum. Most of the issues of non-HTC devices can be supported/solved without the need to correspond to an HTC device.
You could use TouchFlo 3D on your Omnia 2 if its WVGA. However as mentioned above the support provided by this site significantly exceeds that of any site that supports the Omnia. To be completely honest, if you havent bought your device yet you should consider the Touch Diamond II. The reasoning behind this is i read an article somewhere mentioning that devices without a windows button will not get an official WM6.5 ROM or something stupid like that (Correct me if im wrong).
Ill be upgrading from my Tytn to an Omnia2
I agree that HTC gets great support here but Hardware and capability wise there is nothing to compare with the omnia2 on the horizon.
AMOLED screen, headphone jack,tv-out,5mpx cam with dual flash....what more could anyone possibly want?

A forum specialized like this for that device!!!
Hmm, the Touch HD vs Omnia II i8000.
Well, lets face it, this is a question of 'XDA support' or 'No XDA support'. Specs-wise, the i8000 has the Touch HD crushed completely (as have been the case with all new Samsung models; HTC hasn't updated their specs in forever).
Personally, if you ask me for a choice between those two models, I would go with the i8000. The main reason I love XDA support is that it makes the interface looks better and it makes the software faster, but from what I see, the i8000 is already plenty fast and it looks very, very good. Furthermore, the i8000 has support forums too (though not on the level of XDA), so any deficiency may be corrected by its own forums anyway.
The idea of choosing a WM device based on software seems very silly to me. One can find a CAB for just about any Windows Mobile software (including, yes, TouchFlo 3D), so transition between WM devices based on software is very simple. If anything, the i8000 should be more appealing software-wise as Samsung put a lot of amazing software on it that has not been ported to other devices yet.
Always buy for the better specs and design. Never buy for the software support. Buy for the software that is already provided.
Any extras can be found on other fan sites and other non-htc developers. Therefore the Omnia 2 is a much better choice.
Besides there are plenty of software that are created that supports non-htc devices, and there are also software that are created specifically for non-htc devices.
Furthermore alot of the technical problems are Windows Mobile based and not always HTC based.
The only 2 reasons to get HTC devices is 1) if you prefer the design and the specs of HTC and 2) if you want to flash your ROM.
HTC devices are easily flashed to a different ROM, but hey man not everyone uses ROMs... I don't ever use ROM's...
Therefore Omnia 2 is a perfect choice if you don't flash your ROM...and point number 1 shows that HTC Touch HD is outdated....so therefore get Omnia 2 if you don't flash your ROM....
Think about it mate.

a zooming ability on the video camera (while filming)
also, can it play divx/xvid movies like the HD can with coreplayer?
i download movies and dont have to re-encode them, just drag, drop, play. (...generally, unless there was some esoteric encoding used)
mark
I have the same dilemma. I am about to replace my Sony Ericsson W960i with a proper PDA and I am taking into account both, Touch HD and Omnia II.
Similarly I would like to have a Touch Flo 3d interface on my device and therefore I was keener on HTC Touch HD at first. However since it is possible to get a Touch Flo 3d onto all WinMo devices (as I deduced from 8525Smart's post)

I rather buy Omnia.
And here it comes to questions:
1. Are my assumptions concerning getting Touch Flo 3d onto Omnia correct?
2. Could anyone explain to me this ->

What does it mean to"flash your ROM" and how is it useful? Isn't it simply upgrading/updating the ROM?
I'd be grateful if you could help
well livegod guess what ! omnia2 has zooming while taking videos with its awesom camera
and the touch player can support almost 99% of all my downloaded and converted movies
as for the TF3D .. i love the new one and i cant seem to find it anywhere to be installed on my omnia2
i hate the widgets... makes the phone looks like a toy so i am using spbmobile shell + pointui
i'am from germany and I have the same problem.....
But here I can buy the Omnia in a few month....:-(
But what is whith the HTC LEO????????
Touchwiz 2.0 quite simply covers up WM 6.1 SO thoroughly on the Omnia II, it's almost like you're not using a Windows phone. The Omnia II is definitely the better pick unless you REALLY want ROMs to flash. Then wait for the Whitestone or Firestone or whatever HTC have next.
omnia camera is far better than the HD2
especially the video recording
the HD2 dont have a chance
but i dont care about the video recording so i will get the HD2
HD2, wins every time. You can flash what ever you want (when hspl comes out!), why would you ever want an omnia?
Hands down the HD2 (Leo). PPC of the year so far!
Samsung Omnia 2 place...
I'm a Forum XDA user for a long time.
It helped me a lot with my old HTC Wizard.
I was quite worried about buying an Omnia2 and losing the Forum support. But HTC HD cannot win O2 in SPECS.
About support... boys I have to admit.
For Omnia2 (that is not a HTC device) the best software and tweaks and amazing ROMs can be found on MODACO (sorry boys, but I have to say).
If you own an HTC device don't even consider getting there. The best place is here!!!
Concerning the TouchFlo3D, there are many versions available on MODACO. There's even a HTC HD2 like ROM with Sense 2.5
Thanks!

how "android 2.0-friendly" are current HTC android phones?

Hello guys,
You 've made a great forum here, and i must admit you're all doing amazing work. I have a question that made me crawl out of my lurking cave.
I was thinking about buying a HTC Magic/Saphire phone. Maybe getting involved with some android development. Anyway, i was wondering how compatible the phones are with the upcoming android 2.0. I know multitouch will be support (and already is in Hero,) but does that mean that i will be able to upgrade to android 2.0 and enjoy multitouch in Magic? I know multitouch capabilities are already enabled through some roms.
Also, will i expierence slower speeds with coming versions of android? [i'm thinking the way a computer made with xp in mind, behaves when you install Vista on it].
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but i haven't found a clear answer yet
As far as MultiTouch is concerned...my understanding is that it will only work with capicitive touch screens. The Hero's screen is capacitive.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I am aware the G1(Dream) and Magic have risistive screens.
Paul, thanks for your answer
That's what i thought at first, and i was gonna wait for hero to come out in Greece, but i found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558344&highlight=multitouch
and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4510792&postcount=26
so it seems it works with custom roms. Any ideas about the speed factor and/or the compatibility of the phones with future android versions?

Both the G1(Dream) and magic have capacitive screens. All Android phones on the market at this time have capacitive screens
Android 2.0 isn't being developed yet. 1.6 is though (codenamed donut.)
Cyanogen, over in the dream forum has already ported and IMPROVED 1.6 into the G1's.

That is not true either. 2.0 is rumored to be what is shipping on the upcoming Motorola Shules. The code name for 2.0 is eclair.
so, to get back to my original question, when Shules launches, will android 2.0 be portable to 1.6 phones like magic? i read that it won't be portable to G1 [or, to be more accurate, that they wont release an official update for it]

well the issue for the G1 was not have enough memory to "store" the update, but one of the lead developers said that the quote was taken in the wrong way. As far as I know, if you flash it yourself it should fit and work fine in the future. It is just that having the OS on there and then trying to do an Over the Air update would cause issues due to lack of space.
Alittle off the topic but, here's a spec chart of all the android phones on the market. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/09/10/android-battle-cliq-edition/

Samsung Omnia 2 ROM to LiMO Phone Samsung H1

Hello everyone,
I'm using WM phone for 3 years now, and i cannot replace it with anything else..
Recently i got the Samsung H1 vodafone 360 phone running the brand new LiMO OS. It is a brilliant phone, but i'm still missing my favorite WM 6.5 interface, and the applications i used.
So i have a general question to all guru of ROM cooking out there:
Can the specific phone be flashed with a wm ROM (a cooked omnia 2 rom, for example). I'm not looking for someone to post this solution, if existed, in this forum, since i know that XDA deals only with HTC phones. I just need an answer, if it is ever possible to do something like this.
Thanks!

Actually you can port android on GT-I8320 (samsung h1) going here http://samsungi8320.freeforums.org/...card-h1droid-roms-limo-firmware-csc-t518.html

[DEV Discussion] HD Mini Android/Linux Development Thread

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the possibilities of getting Android up and running on the HD Mini.
A word to the wise…porting Android is NOT easy, it took almost 1 year to get an (almost) fully working port for the HTC Touch Pro, and there were a LOT of really good Linux developers spending TONS of time on it. (The preceding sentence was paraphrased from this post by TheDeadCpu.)
***There have been many threads opened on this topic…and most of them have been merged with this thread. So let’s keep the discussion located on THIS thread…new threads opened on this topic will be closed, deleted or merged without warning. Me to!! Can't live with what's in the HD Mini, but most certainy I can live with the hardware. Anybody knowing how to androidize it?
I bought HD mini due to the outlook, size and weight!
Legend have poor taste and the shape is not good to store in pocket.
Frankly, WM is more easy to copy and edit the Word/Excel files from PC and I can check some files out of office easily.
And I just seek for any solutions for multi-boot with Android OS as Android looks better and I just want to try it and need not to buy another phone.
Cos I have one iPhone already, too many mobile phones~
When the evo rom arrives, it will be ported to hd2. I find it logical that it will be a android powered hd mini in the future. Then, it would be rather easier than now to create a custom android rom for hd mini But I should stick to reality.
The dual boot app for winmo devices isn't written for hd minis hvga resolution.
But hey, the diamond 2 or touch pro 2 does not have a android twin to take a rom from. I will put up a request for hd mini support for the android dual boot app.
The hd mini would have been a great android device!
Sorry for bad English.
Thanks gingerviking! I agree that the hardware is made for Android rather than wm6.5. I cross my finger for a rapid solution - WM is just not for me anymore..
Good news is that a genious has managed to get the linux bootloader to work on hd2 and playing a 720p video. An Android port will soon come to hd2 even without the evo rom
Hopefully the kernel system on hd2 isn`t all that different from the hd mini
Well. We're all looking forward to see a genious hacker who cares about the hd mini and android. =)
Don't know if it will work but you guys could give it a try cause it runs via haret:
w w w _dot_ neopeek.com/en/stories/android/75-update-android-fuer-htc-blackstone-diamond-tilt-raphael-rhodium-topaz-fuze
@XDA-Mods: after months of waiting! when will you update my account?
Anything else besides android that you guys might want??? how about some cookies along with it? lol if you wanted android why did you bought a windows mobile based device?? cause of haret? if you want android on your hd2 mini, yould need a working linux kernel, then you can worry about android, and its not that easy im not going over this again im tired of explaining to noobs that android is not a a program that you can simply install...it dosnt work that way.

i own an omnia i900 but recently upgraded to a htc desire. i have the i900 lying home and running custom 6.5.3 roms, but i would like to have eclair running on my i900 so i can use this fone as well. is there anyone working on a project for the i900 android? i wouldnt mind learning how to port roms to the omnia, but anyone point me to the correct way to start with android for the i900?
I dont think so.
This Phone is too old and to unloved ;-)
