Possible to get the flashlight .apk from Froyo? I really like that flashlight app. Would it work on 2.1?

Anytime Just double check and let me know if it works.

it works well. would there be a possibility of having a widget for it similar to the 4g, BT and GPS ones?

There's an app on the market called led light(or something like that) that gives you the sense looking widgets. Only thing is that the app graphic looks like crap. So I went in and changed the graphic to the HTC one lol.
PM me if you want it. I don't want to upload someone else's work with my changes w/out his permission.

Works great on DC 3.2.3.
Thanks.

In case anyone cares, I tested it with cm6. It installs, works great.

I dont see any link! Is it cuz im using the xda app?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

It will install but no actually work on the DX with the 2/2 OTA

FWIW I used to use LED Light until it's graphic conflicted with my new theme. Now I use 'Extended Controls' (~$1) that is a pretty damn customizable power control widget (wifi/3G/etc) that also has a button to make the LED light up.
It may not be worth the money for just the light, but since you can customize your power control widget to any size and any number of controls + unobtrusive LED light, I'd say it's worth it.
Sigh... I can't even link a pic of it because I'm still a noob.
EDIT: I actually don't know if it will work on 2.1 either - I don't see a minimum version requirement. Also, I thought I'd list it's 'controls' - MANY more than stock lets you play with. (Another reason it's worth the $1)

[REQ] Notification Pull Down Power Buttons Ala Galaxy S

Hi I was watching a browser speed test video on androidcentral and they had a galaxy s phone and when they pulled down the notification bar at the top were a set of power buttons letting you turn on blue tooth, wifi or gps from any screen (really useful IMO)
So i ws wondering if this was part of touchwiz or an app or something we can port to the droid x. I find myself wantng to turn on wifi bt and gps alot in apps and ont want to go to the home screen to do it. i think this is so cool, anyone can elaborate?
thanks!
i believe it's part of touchwiz and it IS very handy. i don't use it all the time but it's a lot easier than finding the screen with the quick toggles.....if you're even using them.
Yea my friend has the one for T-mobile and i didnt' know it till i pulled down the notification bar, and I thought the same thing...sooo useful. I use my phone for navi a lot and it's annoying to go through screens to find the widget.
Quick Desk Beta
Check out the app Quick Desk Beta its essentially the same idea but instead of pulling your notification bar down you double press your home button and it pulls up a transparent screen that you can put any widgets on like wifi toggle or your music player. I used it all the time with my D1 when id be on a web page and forget to turn wifi on or want to listen to music while on the web but not want to go home and find the widgets then back to browser. I just got the DX and haven't tried it yet on it im still figuring out all these new moto blur things but i would think it should work with the DX. Hope that helps you out alittle

thanks i will check it out, but i do once in a while use the double tap of the home button for voice dial on my x, but that shouldnt b needed anymore once we get froyo and the new voice search app from google.
i still would like to have this in notification bar and wonder if it could be done as an app or as a theme mod or what. IF anyone has any ideas how this can be ported? maybe i can request a port in the DX android dev forum?
Yes a friend and my inlaws have the Galaxy and I would love to have something like this for the X.
Check out the app Quick Settings. Lets you put whatever settings in there you want. It's not as pretty, but really useful.

Smart bar works pretty good.

I would really love this too. I know the Galaxy S has it and certain ROMs have it but I'm not willing to root my DX quite yet.
i use quick settings as well, works really good.
Also you can download the app called Homesmack which can allow you to program the search hard button on the X to bring up the quick settings app. pretty convenient when i want to turn on wifi or bluetooth etc on the fly and saves space on home screens

It is not apart of any Droid X ROM or theme yet... it is likely that Fission may get this mod though.

I use Power Control Plus - can't post a link yet, apparently, but it's easily googled.
It's awesome.
this is the only feature i miss from when i had my Captivate.....i can only hope the guys at team defuse can get this to work on the X!
I use MySettings. It works very well.

[Q] Power Control Widget

Could anyone pull the widget's .apk from CM7 (or perhaps another ROM's)? I'm not sure if it's possible to apply it over a regular ROM but it would be awesome. I really dig the transparency and such. Extended Controls sucks in 2.3 being that lots of controls will not work. Sorry for being such a newb... TIA
Ps: I attempted to apply this one and this one with no luck
Try widgetsoid on the market.

Thank you. Everything works on it minus the data switch.

[Q] Dropdown toggles.

I've been on a Galaxy S with miui for some time before switching back (the Hero days ^^) to Htc.
Didn't previous sense versions 3.0 & 3.5 have dropdown toggles as seen in Miui and samsung roms?
I've searched, but found no setting to enable anything, and I miss them (the included settings widgets are just horrid). The settings button is great and all, but it still takes a bit of "diving" to find the setting I want to change.
In fact doesn't even AOSP feature toggles? or is it a cyanogen hack in ICS as well?
Some of the sense roms are starting to implement the quick settings in the notification panel at the minute, give it a wee bit of time to catch on.
Rock On!
I'm using notification toggle and it's working out quite well for me. Give it a shot until the ROMs catch up

With root thats actually all i need.
Now where is the "Solved" button on this thread?
There's also Widgetsoid if anyone's looking for an alternative.
Another vote for Notifcation Toggle. I'm able to add in shortcuts to Camera etc - apps that I want quick/easy access to.

I downloaded it via this recommendation and I love it. You can customize the widget icons a little as well as their color (both active and inactive color) Mine looks like this (wifi, gps, vibrate, brightness, torch). Exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the app recommendation I have been looking for something like this.

Looking for the best Flashlight app.

Hello! I am looking for the best fliashlight app available. I use the stock one from ICS 4.0 at the moment, but I hate how when I lock the screen, it turns off! Is there a flashlight app out there that stays on until you tell it to turn off? Let me know!
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
TelsaLED for sure. I used it before CM9 had the built in torch app. It's got a lot of cool features, better than the CM9 one I just downloaded to test, and the light did stay on after I locked the phone.
I do like Tiny Flashlight by Nikolay Ananiev the most, because u can create an homescreen widget for quick start.
Flashlight app of course...
I gave Flashlight LED Genius a try, and I think I like it the most. You can turn the light on from your lock screen by simply shaking your phone, and they make it so the lockscreen doesn't turn off for a set amount of time that you can adjust. Definitely a nice light app.

Flashlight. Plus the widget
yea... Flashlight
Flashlight... As everyone else agrees
The best flashlight app I have used is this simple sucker right here. It turns on automatic, plus it has an option where you can just tap the light icon whenever you need the light so it doesn't have to stay on the entire time. No Bells and Whistles - just a simple flashlight app.
Actually, I can't post the link so just go to Google Play - type in 831 media and the app is called SIMPLE LED FLASHLIGHT.
My 2 cents....
StoneBuckles
Maybe there are any direct links to your Flashlight apps?
The only link here is the TeslaLED and please try to enter just "Flashlight" in the Playstore... you will not find exactly what you want
So it would be VERY helpfull if you guys can link the app's directly, thanks
I find the flashlight in Pie Control is quite easy to use.
Built-in quick settings toggle in 6.0.1/ Battery Widget Reborn (had the free one, but i upgraded to the paid variant)

They have been giving you the names of the apps, you just have to search for the app they mentioned rather than "flashlight". You have to have 10 posts to post links.

I downloaded this app mainly because you said it was highly customizable and stayed on when your screen was off and I like it.
Very customizable, has modes for On/Off, Off after x minutes, On while holding toggle, Text to Morse code with option to repeat continuously, and a couple of others.
Even the widget is customizable and it also stayed on for me when I turned my screen off.

[APP][4.0+] Settings Extended 1.3 (beta)

Hey guys!
I would like to share with you a new update of Settings Extended app before it is pushed to Google Play. The app allows to put setting toggles to the notification bar, it is very customizable and supports multiple rows of settings, if needed.
It would be nice to have your feedback on it. The app is optimized for phones and 7" tablets. Bigger tablets will be supported soon too.
Thanks!
Sergej
have a try!thx man!amazing!

Well, when you click it, it opens an activity displaying a torch (which isn't necessary at all). When you disable the torch then with your notification (to turn it off), it closes and then opens the Torch activity again.
It would be nice if:
1) Clicking the torch (in the torch activity) toggles the flashlight
OR
2) No Torch activity
Btw, do you have a working torch on all HTC devices? I am a developer too, and I can't get it to work on some of them.
If you want a code snippet or anything as an example I can send it to you.
I copied my flashlight code straight out of the AOKP ROM Source.

Edit: Nice app/update btw, I'm kinda jealous now!

In all my apps I use self-written code for the flashlight. It looks very similar to the one in AOKP/packages_apps_Torch. On HTC phones there is built in flashlight which I start. I only use my flashlight in case standard flashlight app cannot be started. By the way, your flashlight doesn't work on Galaxy Nexus. It flashes once and then switches off immediately.

Just try to launch activity with package "com.htc.flashlight" and class "com.htc.flashlight.FlashlightActivity". If it is not there, launch your flashlight.
I've been looking for something like this, it looks great:thumbup:
Though it doesn't have any options for GPS....

I cannot change GPS directly because it is a secure setting. Android protects it. That's why a shortcut to system settings is available only.
