Emulation with Market for 2.1

Hi Guys,
Slightly odd request. I'm planning on making a regular tech vlog/podcast and I definitely want to review android apps. I want the production level of this show to be high so I don't want to be filming my phone.
I've looked into using Android Screencast but the framerate is really low and almost unusable for review/how-to purposes. A recent post by Lifehacker showed how to run a emulated version of Android with market enabled. The latest version is only 1.6 however. I'd like to be able to review any android app so 2.1 is a must.
Does anyone know of a way I can run 2.1 with Market enabled whether this is through the standard SDK or something like virtualbox. SDK files or ROMs would be fine just as long as I can install apps and review them.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7 Professional so a solution for either would be great.

I too would like to know this... I have been searching for a while tonight trying to find the answer (that's how I found this thread), but the only information I can find says to use the system.img file from a nandroid backup, but I haven't been able to make that work... It just boots to the android screen with the blinking cursor

Maybe if you grab some 2.1 firmware (nexus one, desire, G1 CM 5.0, etc) and put Vending.apk into your original system.img then, MAYBE, will be the Market application.

Why don't you invest in an HD camera and place it over your phone. Tons of professional sites do that. It gives it a more hands-on feel, IMO

[Q] POV Mobii 7 Gen2

Hi all,
I bought a Point of View (POV) Mobii7 Gen2 some days ago and it appears to work really well, especially for its price (129 euros). Everything works quite smooth and games run quite well. However, there is no update to Android 2.2/2.3 and the credential storage appears to be unavailable (no such menu item?!), which means I can not connect to the WiFi of my university network. Does anybody know:
(a) if there is a similar device so I can use the firmware of that one?
(b) how I can enable or install the credential storage in Android so I can connect to PEAP networks? Think this is a major flaw in the firmware!

By the way, i'm using a alternative market, called Applanet and this market wil download very wel and the apps installed fine...
Google it and install it from youre sd card...

I have the same tablet as you guys i think, i was wondering, is there a way to get the Android Market on these tablets?

I did struggle quite a lot to install the market, but so far no luck. I actually DO have the market installed, but all downloads fail due to missing components. The trick is to install the vending.apk (i'm at work atm so can't post it), but it will not download, I think it is caused by the Google Framework which is missing. What DOES work is the Applanet market. Also copying APK's from a rooted phone does work if you need a certain app which isn't on the AndroidPIT and Applanet market.
One other thing: next week new firmware will be released for this device improving performance and fixing bugs. I hope this firmware does include the google framework, enabling market installation.
Please also post your experience and achievements on installing the market and other improvements/interesting things. Starting to like the device though: watching videos, playing MP3s and e-reading works well. Replacement of the launcher is recommended, I prefer Launcher Pro

new update
I tried new official upgrade last night and all is running fine, i think litlebit faster. And now its inside new android market. I was hoping that will be a new version of android 2.2 but its still 2.1.

Is the Market the official Google Market?
Is the trackball still working? Someone in Holland reported that the trackball didn't work after the firmware upgrade.

I did the trackball version upgrade. You must download also the other file. The trackball zip doesn't include the upgradetool! There are no extra apps nor Google

I am disapointed with new update. My mobii have not trackball, inside is home, option And back button. after upgrade now they always on with green led in suspend mode. Batery fast running out. Sometimes its not possible to switch on And only reset help. I search way to make downgrade.

same here, exept vor battery life. listening to web radio, surfing and a little e-book reading gives me at least 5h... haven#t drained it to limit though.
how long does the battery last on your mobii?
btw: i have the nontrackball tab

Guys, I'm happy today!! I managed to get the Android Market working on the Mobii 7. Here is what I did:
- Download the image file from http://www.slatedroid.com/index.php?topic=14498.0
- Update your Mobii 7 Gen2 with this image, choose NOT to update the boot image.
- Start the Market, enter your settings.
- Do a test download (even if it fails).
- Follow these instructions: http://www.technipages.com/android-market-download-unsuccessful-error-fix.html
- Install the new market APK from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TON34WSX
- Do not be tempted to test the Market now;
- Reboot your device
- Market is working!

Getting android 2.1 on netbook

Hi, i have a acer aspire d255 which has a dual boot with android 1.6, i can download apps and they work but some like angry birds wont install as its 1.6.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get 1.6 upgraded to 2.1?

I'm also quite keen on any info or hacks for this device. I've got a Acer One D255
with Android 1.6 I barely ever boot into it but has the potential of being quite useful. I'm also quite annoyed there
isn't a market app as this is 95% of android usability, without it there doesn't seem to be much you can do with it.
So what I'm asking is.....
how do I upgrade this version of android.
or how do I install the Market app.
or any other method of getting apps on it.
I'll be keeping a close look at the link posted above, as this may provide some level of success too.

hi so far the only way i have found is to use appstore or apk files installed with a file manager

i have the d255 been playing with it for a few days now the android is1.6 ot the best in the world but it works the down side is there is no market but i can run apps on it if i insall the apk file and it runs some that my wildfire cant it will run live wallpapersand the wifi works with no probs
so what i was woundering is there anybody working on making this better?
and is there anything the rest of use who have the d255 can do to help

What kind of apps have u been able to install? I tried installing ADW launcher (the only app I tried) but it gave an error parsing the package.
Is the D255 just running the "ordinary" phone android 1.6?

So I've been playing around with it today and I found that you can install .apks that you normally find in the market. I assumed the version running on here was 1.6. I managed to install ADW launcher (gives much more customization) and a lot of other apps. Right now I am going to try installing the Gapps found here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps
I also found that the App Center found on AndoidPIT works and allows you to download apps and install them (at least the one app that I clicked on ). Things like astro and Root Explorer also work. I pulled most of these apps from my phone and installed them and most of them work fine.
It's not android 2.1 (or 2.2 or 2.3 ) but it does make the whole thing a lot more usable.
EDIT: I just read the post above and people already managed to do the same I figured I would give my 2 cents anyway.

Netflix is apparently blocking unsupported devices when you try to login, I uploaded the apk to my xoom to test it and it did not let me login.

I have the app and have not yet been able to get it to load. I just get a black screen.
However, I noted that the details on the market page state it is official for the Incredible running 2.2, and I'm running CM7.
Has anyone else tried with CM7?
Assuming there are indeed compatibility issues, I'm hopeful the devs will find a way to make it work, because I'm not looking forward to going back to stock, but I need Netflix.
(Actually. Right now, I'm thinking about loading up one of the dual-boot options with some stock Froyo. This is worth the effort.)
Edit: The dual-boot option is awesome and all... But then, I tried again in CM7, and I found that I spent a few hours heavily tweaking my phone for nothing but the thrill; the app works, and I was watching Ong Bak 3 in seconds. Since I don't need a Sense rom, I undid the dual-boot configuration.
So. Works on CM7.

Just saw this. Not showing up for me in the market. I assume its a CM7 thing.

Im getting the exact same thing on latest CM7 nightly

Running stock (rooted) 2.2 and mine force closes immediately after trying to launch the app. Somebody mentioned something about Flash 10.3 so I updated and still get force close. Any ideas?

Sorry, I'm not sure how that converts to the actual nightly number, but its what I was able to gleen out of the Rom Manager.

Netflix on Android Released

Looks like Netflix has been released on a few phones. Not sure if anything can be done with it to work on the G Tab (if it actually does require certain hardware to work), but can someone with the knowhow try changing their build.prop to one of the supported phones to see if it will stream?

Wont run on Caulkins ROM...message says that my device is not supported, and to check with Netflix for supported devices :-(

I'm a little surprised that intelligent folks think that a hotly-desired app like Netflix which is dropped on the Market with support for very limited devices could just be installed and run on any other device by just getting hold of the .apk. I get the feeling it's going to be more than a build.prop entry, too - there's going to have to be some specific hardware spec.

I'm on Vegan 5.1.1 and I got it to download and I was able to log in. Nothing can be streamed but its installed and running. I had to go through the online market to download it. It worked on the first try which is better than my Incredible which took 3 tries. I never found the app in the market on my gTab but this is probably because I never have been able to get the market working properly, even after doing the market fix a thousand times.

I changed the settings below in build.prop per wgarrido's advice. After rebooting, when I click on a movie to play it goes to the red splash screen and says loading and then it shows the progress bar and play/pause button but then after a second it backs out to the main screen. That is farther than I was able to get before.

Were you trying to trick it into thinking it was a G2? I remember something about it needing snapdragon processors to work and none of the listed devices are similar in architecture at all. I expect many difficulties in porting this, that said I like my incredible a little more.

I almost wonder if it's a resolution issue, more than anything else. Installed from the market on both my GTab (supposedly not supported) and N1. Works wonderfully on my N1, Gtab, same as everyone else, installed, browses titles, will not play anything.

I sideloaded the Netflix App then moved it to the SD card.
I am running the 10.3 update of Adobe Flash Player (not sure if this is relevant)
I modified 2 lines in my /system/build.prop file as follows
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
Reboot

ardy, that method doesn't work for me with VEGAn 5.1.1 and 10.2 I still have SlingPlayer though.

This method work great for me, able to stream multiple videos using the app.
