Hey All -- maybe this is more of a general Android question, but: Is there a universal way to "undo" an action, like deleting a bunch of text? Any way to do this with any of the keyboards that I missed? I know in windows mobile, if you could type "CTRL+Z" you'd undo things, but I have not seen a way to do this in Android, unless a specific app provides that option in the menus. For example, while in a random text editor I downloaded from the Market (I forget which one) I accidentally deleted a line I had selected, and it seems that was that -- there was no way to get it back since the app didn't provide an Undo option! It seems that perhaps the OS might allow this, since most do, but I really couldn't figure anything out.
Anyway, just wondering if there's a trick anyone knows, either specific to the Captivate or one of the keyboards out there, or for Android in general.

I am sure that someone knows how to do it. Maybe it is in the settings.db that we access to enable sideloading of applications. I will look more into it and let you know if i run across anything
I checked the settings.db and it doesnt hint at changing any of those settings. Maybe i missed something but I dont think so. Are there any other settings files in the OS?
I was hoping this would be removed or disabled in Froyo, but it is still unchanged.
I actually think I know what the cause of this is.
The obvious answer is that it's Samsung's doing. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I like the changes Samsung made to these apps, with the low battery exception. If you were to replace these with the AOSP apps for each respective task, the low battery issue goes away, meaning that this is coded into the apk somewhere. I'll see if I can dig around and find them, and possibly hack a line or 2 of code out. I'll test my results, if there are any, and post them here.

I would have found this on my own if it exists, but the nature of trying to find an app that lists your most used apps is difficult to search for.
I was wondering if there is an app out there that functions sort of like a folder on your home screen. One that automatically keeps up with your top 10/15/20 most used apps.
I'm trying to maintain a minimalist home screen and would like to find something like this. Ideally it would be just a single icon that pops up your "favorite" apps when touched. I realize I could of course create a folder for this purpose, but it would be great if there was some sort of automated app for it. Your most used apps likely fluctuate and I think this could be a valuable thing to have.
It could work like the recent apps hotkey. Maybe if there was a way to disable the recent apps from being cleared on a reboot, that would pretty much solve my issue.

I have a Droid 1 for what its worth.
First of all, I know if I say something bad about Android, I get negative replies and maybe the thread is closed. That was what I got when I posted some criticism about Android's application uninstall interface. I am not a troll, I have 3 Android devices, it is just I want it to get better. I also use Apple products, and recently I bought a Logitech mouse and couldn't get the back/forward button on my Macbook, so I searched Apple user forum, and I found some user had asked/complained about it. I was shocked at that the other user's response was something like 'why use forward/backward button, how difficult is it to press the back button on the screen'. Apparently for some people, when they are in love with something, they just cannot find anything bad about it.
Anyways, back to the main story, we all admire Android for its freedom. But it seems to me, that the freedom of developer is much larger than that of users. I often receive junk notifications from apps I have installed. One app sent a notification at 2 or 3 AM. You may say, "uninstall it then", but what if I have bought it and I need to use it?
iOS solves this problem by letting users disable notifications per application. I don't know if I can do similar thing by adding custom modification or using a custom ROM, but think about 'normal' people, they don't know how to do such things and they have not much time to spend their weekends doing that kind of things.
Freedom is a good thing, but there should be a mechanism to prevent its misuse, like laws in real life. And I think the user should have an easy access to such mechanisms. I mean 'easy', not installing custom ROM or through rooting.
That's only possible in Android 4.1 Jellybean. If you have a way to update your device, do it

Unfortunately most of us are stuck running something older. Personally I think unwanted notifications from apps is a bad idea, and I will usually uninstall an app that does this just because I don't support devs that do this. Check to see if the app can have the notifications disabled in its settings.

I once considered asking XDA for suggestions about this, and so I'm doing now, as maybe you can share a few ideas on how that can be acheivable, if possible at all;
This is a serious request, while I believe that I'm no addict or anything - I have self control, but emh, trying to quit;
Thing is I'm doing this for myself as a matter of self-control - First I would like to mention rooting my device was really useful (Rooted Android devices since 2011), as it allowed me to modify my hosts file and block a few common websites first, which did worked really well, especially the first few days/weeks. Once a site is blocked in the hosts file, there's no going back, I never removed any site from it. (If I was doing this, I'm not not helping myself anyway. So that's why I never change it back. I mean, everytime you'd want to fire up your browser, you would just remember, sorry man, that site is blocked now. That work.
But obviously, hosts file has it's flaws, since I couldn't filter https websites from it, and I even wonder if it's possible doing this. Also made me really wish it could support wildcards, or ANYTHING can be used to block sites using wildcards, to block as many as possible. like, blocking http:..*porn* , or anything else (I know what keyword to filter to make that work best).
Or alternatively, I would have attempted something else long ago (Did this on PC using Leachblock, but on a different purpose/topic, focussing to study stuff), blocking this URL with wildcard: google.ca/*porn*
By blocking the search engine using wildcards and a few common keywords I usually use, I would imagine that CAN be done. But just not sure how to do it, especially with wildcards, which is probably essential.
Alternatively: block the whole Opera browser from, 22PM to 8PM (Only browser I have installed)? How? (I've thought of Tasker, or planified Titanium Backup task... Freezing Opera?) Of course this wouldn't prevent me from installing a different browser, but like I've mentionned, by installing a different browser, you choose to give up on all this effort. I don't do that, like I don't modify my hosts file back. Of course it would be so easy using root to delete or JUST rename the hosts file to disable it for a while, but I don't think that really matter, it's effort related, like I've mentionned. I was thinking of setting a password asking for deletion or anything.. Only way I thought was to input a random PIN I did not know to SuperSU, but now that prevent me from allowing every root apps.
Even by installing APKs, they can be uninstalled... Even if they ask for admin rights, even if removing admin rights requires a password (Cerberus is the only one I know who does this).. The APK could just be removed from the partition heh;
Of course, flashing ROMs to bypass this is out of the question - I could do that, but as usual you're not helping yourself, and I'm not such a freak XD Waiting 10 minutes to restore a different ROM / Nandroid backup, I mean, usually the urge would fade anyway. Well.
Aware that there would be no bulletproof way to prevent accessing such sites for sure, but maybe you are open to share some ideas, Android related huh; I believe that the more stuff I put to prevent access, the more that help, and the less you are tempted of doing the effort to bypass. Still, modifying the hosts files was a HUGE first step (I don't think I could have started without doing this).

Qustodio and Netspark and netnanny and tones of other apps require a password when removing admin...
Netspark will also make sure that you won't be able to uncheck device admin in safe mode...
Have someone else setup password on your device on site blocking software.

I purchased a Bluetooth Purification Mask named Atmoblue.
It originated in China. Ive had it for a few months now and it has bluetooth and there is an app for it but it looks like its taking forever for it to be moved over to English.
My question is how hard would it be for a person (or me, with no experience at all) to pull the basic functions out of the app?
For example I want to bypass the wechat login (cause, no) and basically get the pairing function up and running along with the fan speed and some of the auto features in the app and create a basic app til they release the full thing.
If any of you also want to try I can send you the link to the apk. Or if you would do it and require payment at completion how much would that cost?
In case you need to see the device just google Atmoblue.

There is pretty much a 99.9% chance that you won't find anyone to do this for you. The best you can hope for is someone might give you some links to guides showing how to decompile and edit apk files. What you would modify in the apk file to achieve your purposes would require you doing your own research to figure it out. You can ask further questions along the way about the things that you don't understand, but there are no guarantees that you will get any useful answers.
In other words, be prepared to dig in and do the work yourself, if you really want to accomplish this feat. If not, get used to dealing with the app the way it is.

Yea, i started researching the day I posted this. I've been reading and reading and reading. Ive gotten to the point where I now have access to the battery percentage. Currently, trying to figure out the characteristics in the device itself and the values needed to change each of the modes. Also, it looks like the app from the company is pretty much useless to try to use. Based on the code (from what I can understand after 2 days of research and starting off with 0 coding knowledge) the app has to use wechat to basically be able to access a server and then the server sends it back to the phone then the device. Meaning I can't just look in the code for what values I need, unless I was able to actually sign into wechat and record the log. Which I can't do since I don't have access to wechat.
So now I'm currently looking up how to write code in the programs I've found to write it and create a ui. Ive at least figured out uuids and figured out how to call up the battery percentage now. Only like 3 more settings to go! Wish me luck lol
