Text message notification - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I am hoping someone can tell me what is causing this notification. I get two different notifications every time I get a sms/mms message and I actually have to click clear to remove one of them. the other one goes away when i press it. I need to get rid of the one with the yellow arrow, I am pretty sure it is an app doing this but i cant figure out which one and its driving me crazy heh. Thank you.

Do you have handcent or chomp, etc. You gotta turn off stock notifications if you are using one of those.

do you have another sms app installed? like handcent sms? in the application settings there will be an option to display notifications, or just uninstall it.
there is also a setting in the default sms app that has an option to show or not to show a notification icon, but since it seems like your using the default one you want to keep it on..

I dont think I have any sms apps installed, although I have been sick the past week and playing with my phone while on pain killers so its possible but I dont think so. I want to keep the default sms notification not the other.
edit: I for sure do not have chomp or handcent installed.

never mind guys.. I found out its a side effect of beautiful widgets part 2. uninstalled it and its gone.

Text Messages / Clock issue

Having a slight problem here with my new captivate (came from an iPhone 4 and happy btw )
When someone sends me a text, and I reply... sometimes my 'bubble' will go above theirs and during a fast texting conversation I can send many texts that will go above all of my friends, causing it to be very hard to read. This happens with a bunch of people that text me. All people involved are on AT&T network, all getting automatic time from smartphones.
Any way to force texts to go in the order your device receives/sends them rather than by a time stamp?
Thanks folks
I've installed handcent and set it as my default in launcherpro.... BUT now I get double notifications (one handcent, one original) up top and only the handcent one clears when I view the message

Captivate - Notification popup

I usually don't get a popup for any notification.i see alot of apps for individual requirements like sms or mail. But I need a single app for all type of notification as I get on iphone. Anyone faced the same issue

most apps put notifications in the notification bar - IMO, the notification bar is superior to anything the iPhone does. Even with a PIN Lock, I can see icons telling me i have notificationas and which kind - SMS, IM, eMail, Skype, etc. All have their own icon, so for me this works better then a single notification app.
Most apps, have their own settings to allow notifications.
I too was looking for this, but now prefer the notification bar system. The popups are annoying, and only useful when using the phone if at all.
Handscent SMS has popups and quick reply if you really want to try that.
Im also using apps the nag me that their is a notification. Handscent does this, and im still dealing with how to do it for calendar. TouchWiz and Google's calendar apps really lack the features.
I jailbroke my phone mainly for notification bar icons. I want to know if i get something without having to swipe to unlock and then enter a PIN. I should be able to see that stuff from the lock screen.
try NoLED from the market place. It's free and pretty useful. When your phone is in sleep mode, it will show an icon of whatever notification you get (e.g. a mail icon for message, or cassette for voicemail)
It also keeps the background black to save battery! Very customizable, and I highly recommend it

[Q] Custome text for contacts

Ive been trying to figure out how to set custom ringtones for txts for individual contacts but havent gotten anything. Can anyone help?
Use handcent sms from the Market. Turn off notifications in your stock messaging app once you've installed it to avoid double notifications. In the thread for the person whose notification tone you want to change, tap the button in the top right (the person with a gear) and choose notification settings, then notification sound.
There's no way to do it through the AOSP contacts or sms app.
thank you but thats for android. I forgot to mention I use the touch pro 2. I appreciate the help tho.

Handcent problems

Got a weird bug that's started today. When I receive a message I have my little screen bubble with a smiley in it for handcent and no a black and white envelope and my ring tone plays twice too? I disabled notifications in the stock app so no idea why I get this other notification? It stays there until i clear it or click, and clicking just takes me to handcent??
Anyone help?
Just upgraded to CM7 on HTC Desire HD btw
do you have any other message app installed on your phone that shows the messages or otherwise?
oh and if you have handcent set up as default message application, that will be why it goes to handcent. to me it sounds like another app notifying you. one that comes to mind for me would be pure messenger widget. or another app that uses multiple messaging methods (e-mail, sms etc)

New Android user, Notifications Question

I just came from an iPhone 4 and this is my first Android phone (I've used a touchpad with CM9) and I have a fairly simple question which I can't seem to figure out.
When you receive an SMS, or any notification for that matter, the phone will beep or vibrate but the screen remains black.
How can I change the settings to have the screen light up and show the notification I just received like iOS does. I assumed this would just be a standard setting but after searching the phone and internet for about 10 minutes I gave up.
Thank You and sorry for the noobiness. Plz dont kill me I swear im not trolling.

i'm guessing he means without 3rd party apps... in which case, i don't think it's possible - at least until we get custom roms.
that's one thing i really miss about my GSII - that, and BLN. the LED on this HOX is so small, i tend to miss it, even if it's blinking.
So wait, your telling me there's no feature built into ICS that makes any sort of a notification pop up on screen on? That's absolutely ridiculous. What am I supposed to do for push emails? Just listen to the beep and have to go toggle the screen each time I get one to see if its important or not?

you should still get the notifications if your screen is on... i thought you were talking about making SMS and emails light up the display on your screen when the screen is off and you're not using the phone. if you are using the phone, and you get an SMS or email - assuming you are not currently in either of those programs - you should still get a notification.
if you are in fact talking about getting the screen to light up when you receive SMS or email and the screen is off... then yeah, unfortunately, you just have to hear the tone or feel the vibration, and if you miss that, look for the LED. eventually there will be support for making the screen light up, and even BLN (back light notification - where the capacitative keys light up when you receive a SMS or email) - but it's going to take custom kernels for that stuff to happen.

it is kinda bad... for now.
once the bootloaders are unlocked, the real fun will begin, and this stuff will be no problem to implement into custom roms. just gotta be patient for a little bit.

Um, you had to do the same thing with an iPhone. If you missed the initial screen turn on you had to do exactly that. Toggle the screen. Before iOS 5 it was even worse. So calm down and explore your HOX. While you will have to toggle your screen, to make up for it you can customize your lockscreen to quickly allow you to see certain notifications.
If you go to settings -> personalize -> lock screen style and select productivity you'll be able to keep track of your notifications extremely easily.
Otherwise yeah, an easily installed, non-invasive app can quickly fix your problem. If a text makeover isn't what you want check out an app called SMS Flash. It's my favorite least intrusive UI notification pop up. You can't reply from it like you could from SMS Popup or Go SMS Pro pop up notifications, but it does show you them and is slightly customizable.
If you go into the messaging app, then go to settings > notifications. There is an option called notification preview. This will turn on the screen and show you a preview of the SMS you just received.
Also under Personalize > Lockscreen, then select the second option called productivity. This will list all of your active notifications on the screen similar to iOS.
You can also access the notification tray from the lockscreen, provided you don't have any sort of security on (PIN, Pass, Etc).
I also think you're being a bit nit picky about not having the screen light up for every notification. That is just as easy to miss as anything else. You have to be looking at the phone to see that. If I'm working on the computer the sound of a tone or vibrate is much more likely to get my attention. You turn the screen on to check the notification when you're ready... I don't really see a problem. Turning the screen on for anything other than incoming calls/texts seems like a waste of battery to me.
Android is a bit different in that the options aren't centralized. Options for notifications are within each app itself. Some apps (like Facebook app Friendcaster) may include optional popup notifications.

pretty sure that SMS option won't make your screen light up when you receive texts... all it does is place the notification in a square in the middle of your lockscreen, so that when you hit the power button to unlock your phone, you see that square on your lockscreen, rather than having to look for the little icon in the upper left corner of your notification bar.
You get a notification up top....fyi you can pull down the notification bar down and check whatever on the lock screen. You don't actually have to unlock this phone to access notification bar. Love it. My infuse was not the same.

i actually prefer it NOT to be built in to the OS....i have this thing called CHOICE here in the Android world....and I choose NOT to have that feature baked in....i dont want my screen coming on at all, unless i tell it to.....i fail to see how having a third party app that handles this, a bad mark
Handcent SMS is a really good messaging app (better than default IMO). It has a setting that turns the screen on when a message is received. I'm not sure about email because I have never bothered to look for an alternative.
@Pirateghost What if you still had the CHOICE to install a 3rd party app that kept your screen off? Everyone has different preferences, and the OP is upset it isn't available in the stock app. Seems reasonable to me.

i didnt say it was unreasonable, but the OP came off as it was a huge shortcoming and he couldnt believe that its not possible to have it implemented in ICS already...and installing a third party app is putting him out...
just an interpretation of the text.....no clue how it was meant
Seriously how hard is it to install an app that does this?

Yeah we have tons of choice with this bootloader being locked...
Although it would be nice to make your own custom lockscreen style, that has like the weather and productivity combined

Agreed.
Secondly, unless the phone is directly in front of you at all times and you're able to see the screen light up right then and there, then I don't see a difference. If the phone is in your pocket and the screen lights up but you failed to hear the notification, you're still screwed.
