My apologies if I am here with the same complaint, but I tried searching this forum and found nothing that works for me.
Basically, I rooted and flashed CM 5.0.8 and I have been having battery issues. Now its not that my device is draining battery at a very fast rate (seems it is indeed doing that), but I suspect there is some problem with the battery meter.
So from all the stuff that I read, I decided to recalibrate the battery. I charged it up to full, until the green light went off, until the status showed 100%(full) and then some more. I then restarted into recovery(Amon-RA 1.7.0) and wiped the battery stats and rebooted back into CM, while having the charger connected at all times. Its worth noting however that during the time the phone was booting itself into recovery or into the ROM itself, the charging indicator stayed off. Thanks to that, when the phone booted into CM, the indicator was red for a few mins before it turned green (charge had dropped 99%)
Now I've done this 2-3 times, including letting the phone die due to an empty battery, but I am still getting very little life from the phone. For the record, I have the end button set to sleep and I don't have any continuously running widgets and my syncing apps (twitter) are set to sync only every 1 hour.
Anyway, again I don't think these apps are draining much battery, since once the battery dies down and the phone switches off (after light to moderate usage as compared to the life 1.6 Donut gave me), when I put it back to charge and turn the phone on after 5-10 mins of charge (while the phone is off), the meter shows a charge level of around 65%. So I suspect that the battery charge is at around 50-60% during when the meter reads it as around 1% and forces the phone to turn off.
I also tried switching on the phone after it had turned off, but it switches off immediately after booting (at least on 1.6, I could reboot it a couple of time on a 'dead' battery)
Are there any other tips that I can use to recalib my battery? Any idea will be much appreciated as my phone dies out each day before I can get back home and put it on the plug. Should I consider upgrading to CM6-RC1? Has it been proven that the battery performance is better on that?
Have u tried swapping out the battery with another one to isolate it to possibly the battery itself? Isolation is key, that way could it be ur extusb isn't charging correctly or is it the battery?
Well, I do have a spare - the one I saved from my bricked G1, but I haven't tried it out yet. The battery was working perfectly well just a few days ago when I had a stock Donut. So, I suppose it isn't a battery problem, but no harm in trying out the other one.
i had issues with my lithion battery and found out it happened to be on its last breathe. And with my spare i had it worked good. did u drop the battery at all? with lithium ion batteries can be as delicate as expensive china or porcelain. And to be honest the batteries that came with our g1's aren't really that good. If you can I would suggest getting an ext. battery from ebay. ive heard that fully discharging a lithion battery isn't the best practice either. I'm no expert just experience Best of Luck!

reading the Cyanogen 5 thread I noticed at least 5 people with a broken battery...
for the record mine is broken too...
it's all swollen up... I mean, I can use it but it doesn't last a full day and it doesn't fit perfectly anymore in its slot inside the phone...
I'm starting to think that maybe for some reason flashing cyanogen 5 caused this issue, since so many people had this problem at the same time...
or maybe it's just a time defect of some stock htc batteries... who knows...
@GigiSpligi: Nono... don't blame CM for the swollen battery. Batteries tend to swell up after a lot of usage (charge discharge cycles). The battery on my old Nokia phone had swollen up after about 2 years of use. Similarly my friends E51 battery. Also my G1 batt seems to have swollen a little bit already. So nothing to do with the ROM.
Of course, if the ROM is making you charge frequently, then it is indirectly causing the effect on the battery.

The exact same thing happened to me ... actually on all ROMs now ... i'm gonna look into getting a new battery and sdcard which kinda sucks, but oh well. when i think about it, i wasn't have any problems till i started flashing sense based ROMs, especially Slide ROMs. so i must have done something wrong. i can't even make a phone call for longer than 10 mins before the phone shuts off and have to plug it back it into a charger just to get it to boot to the home screen
... hope there is a solution ... haven't read through this thread yet. just wanted to let you know you weren't the only one with the exact same problems

Ah well... gonna have to pull out a new battery and see if that helps in anyway. I will have a look at the device usage stats to see if anything is causing unnecessary drain. Since there has been a drastic change in the battery life after the upgrade, I do not want to blame the battery itself yet. Guess some app is driving the phone nuts.
Ok, I was just seeing the battery usage history in spare parts and I there are some interesting usage stats there.
Network usage - While Market, Android System, Google, Calendar are around 1% - .5%, almost 100% of the usage has come from Media. I think this has been trying to keep the network alive throughout the time. I dunno if network means Data or just the voice network. The packages listed under Media are Camera(twice), DRM, Download Manager, Media Storage. Is there any reported issues with Camera or Media Player?
Also, Spare Parts says my Battery Health is Good. Is this a reliable indicator of the battery life?
I believe spare parts receives the battery info via "Testing" which comes stock on android. Let me know how the new battery works out cuz I want to research further when it comes to phone environment versus the actual battery itself.
I have same problem with my battery. I guess maybe battery life since it already use 1 half year. Anyway, who knows.

... on a side note, i think there has been a battery issue since CM5 correct? in my sig there is a recalibration method by xda member 'my_former_self' for those who have not read it and if your battery is still good to go ... worth a try

so it turns out my battery issues was in fact the battery. the new battery is working awesome. phone hasn't randomly shutoff on me all day with heavy texting, some youtube vids, mild internet browsing, and several apps ... 17+ hours later about 2% charge remaining. gonna run the battery through its conditioning cycle.
fyi i turned airplane mode on when i was in class ... approximately 2 hours

After spending over 4-5 days with the battery, I pulled out the spare that I had (with a couple weeks of usage) and installed that on my phone. Just to be safe, I drained the battery after some initial charging and ran it through this battery recalib method.
I did this yesterday morning after it being charged fully. I also installed SetCPU after recalibrating. Its run 2 full days of regular usage and I still have over 50% charge left. Ain't that cool or what? I think I will leave it uncharged tonight also and I guess it should last the whole of tomorrow as well. I don't think even the stock cupcake or donut lasted this long on a single charge. So in that case CM 5.0.8 has actually managed to up the battery life a lot (with SetCPU and, sleep on end).
Exactly how long does your battery last? It's no secret that CM5 (and any Eclair ROM) is just plain poor on battery life in these devices, even on my in-warranty Magic it chews through the battery about 25% faster than any Donut ROM such as Dwang, SuperD or CM4.
Seido sell extended batteries which fit in the original phone housing (unlike those ridiculous ones on eBay which have an extended back and turn your phone into a 2001-era brick), they seem to get good reviews, maybe give one of them a go.

my o2 xda is running tnt wm6 for a long time now with no problems but recently my battery has started draining super fast like right infront of my eyes it drops percent numbers. i run battery status but that has never bugged the battery before. i also tried switching batteries with two of my friends and their phones run fine but mine drains fast. i have charged it with both the computer and the charger. it charges super slow and upon charging when i restart it the battery drops something like 20 percent or more instantly. could this be a virus? i factory resetted my phone and formatted my memory card but im still getting this issue. please any help would be much appreciated!

the fact of the matter is that ive been using this rom for so long without problems and this battery charger thingy just started a few days ago. could this be hardware problem?
Time for a new battery. Try nothing else until you have replaced it, with a new one, not one from another phone.

Then go to eBay and buy an new OEM replacement for like $10 shipped. I think I paid $8 for mine.
I personally think it is a bug.
On three separate occasions using various roms, my battery would drain from 100% to 0% in an hour. I would reset everything, recharge and it would run normal without problems.
I do not know what causes this but it does appear to be a software glitch, at least in my case.
try to hard reset your device and then test (after backup your data).
this can give you the clear reason (in case of the rom was running well with you).

Actually I am suddenly having the same problem with a brand new battery on a brand new Wizard.
I just loaded the newest Mfrazz Rom which seems to be fantastic in its applications, speed etc. however immediately on loading the ROM, my battery does get hot in normal use and drains to 30% in a normal day. I have even loaded the IRDA disable cab to no particular effect.
Is there some specific procedure to which you are referring for hard resetting the Wizard? I assume you don't just take out the battery?
Dead battery
Lithium batteries can be killed rather easily. I know from rc helis. Most mobile phones use lithium-ion batteries. Helis use lithum-polymer batteries but they have pretty much the same charactoristics. li-poly is a little more volitile, they can and will explode if you charge or discharge too much or too quickly. If you over charge, you kill it. If you over drain, you kill it.
If you are in a place where you get little or no signal turn off the radio. It will discharge quickly if it's searching for a signal. Also if you are not using the bluetooth or wifi turn them off, same thing. That's why they provided the Comm Manager. Try not to let your charge get below 20%. Definately don't let it run completely out or stay that way long.
A dead lithium battery will not hold a charge at all. Just like you see, the numbers dropping off quickly. It will charge fast too.

Looking at it afresh, it isn't the battery which is heating up on installation of this ROM, it is the unit itself. The battery seems to be remaining at a comparatively normal temperature though the heat generation does drain it very quickly as I said.
Not sure that this problem has ever been addressed before on these boards? It may be something to do with not flashing to a manufacturer's ROM before flashing to Mfrazz's new one?
Has anyone ever seen these symptoms before?
In addition to some of the other posts ,you could check this :
WM6 may need to "learn" the battery levels again.
Try FULLY discharging & recharging your battery 3-4 times.
If this doesn't make things better, maybe you should check if you are running anything strange in the background...

Lithium batteries don't recover like ni-cad. Spend the $10 and solve the problem. DONT EVER FULLY DISCHARGE A LITHIUM-ION BATTERY. That is the quickest way to kill it.

As far as I am aware it is difficult to FULLY discharge one of those batteries in the Wizard? The unit starts giving error messages when it gets to the 15% level and some time thereafter shuts most of its functions down to prevent this. Whenever I have had problems with these units getting hot and even discharging and shutting down, the battery level never seems to be at 0% when I plug it in again. I have never thereafter found any permanent damage to the battery.
I think we should address the problem which seems to be in issue here which is that somehting in the OS is causing the battery to discharge as opposed to replacing the battery and watching the problem continue. At least, that was MY problem.
I am obviously not saying batteries don't die. All I am saying is that for a lot of users, the problem may lie elsewhere. Meanwhile I have flashed back to T-Mobile and re-flashed the newest Mfrazz which SEEMS to be quite VoIP friendly and overnight the unit doesnt seem to have heated up.
since i cant order a battery from where i live i tried reflashing my phone and memory card and i think that fixed it. maybe in my case its an os bug. and yes i definitely have been treating my battery badly on discharging and over charging. thanks for the info
They are not that delicate if you know what kills em it's pretty easy to avoid. They don't develop a memory like the older ni-cads. if you are going to store one charge it first. They don't power drain by them selves unless they are in a device. Just don't leave a battery drained. Also they wont over charge in the phone. The phone will stop charging when the battery is full, and 0% is not actually 0volts. There are built in safeguards for the average user.
Thought I would create this to see if you're happy with the battery life on your Vox and post some tips about charging and discharging for better life.
I am generally dis-satisfied with battery life on the Vox however I keep a fully charged battery in my Jeep, one in my wallet and one in my Vox to always stay connected. I switch to my 2250mAh when I know I'm doing to be using WiFi a lot.
Anyways, here is what I have found;
If you reboot your phone while charging, it will jump to a higher charged state and not properly store the charge. To combat this, I have placed a strip of electrical tape over the 2nd connector to the left on the battery which stops the battery from reporting the proper charge level. I run it down and place it on my external charger. Charges last a lot longer after I do this.
Any tips for how you use your Vox to maximize battery life?
I am happy, because I usually get through one day without any problems and then I am plugging it in over night anyway! I'd love a battery with higher capacity, but I hate those extended covers!

I am not happy at all. 3-4 days ? I bought vox few days back and I get 2 days max, with most of time on standby.
Okay so I received my 2250mAh battery cover, finally. However when using the battery, my device shuts off randomly, this only happens with the extended battery. It also seems the contact sheets are deeper and the pins have a hard time reaching them. If I slide the Vox shut hard, it will also reboot.
Any idea's?
The battery life is fine as long as you don't OC it. I manage to get 3 days with normal use.
With the CPU up to 240Mhz, it barely lasts a day. So i rather use the original 6.0 rom without OC and its still fast. WM6.1 is to slow without OC'ing for me.
So after 6 months of use i finaly found my settings wich i like. And makes the battery life OK for me

I got this too when I just received the battery, but after something like 2 weeks these problems disappeared
I'm happy with battery life...
I get up to 2 days with heavy voice, email, and text -- some bluetooth, very little WiFi or Internet. Personally, I've never had a problem with a phone as long as I get a full day and can charge at night. Even if I got 6 days on a battery, I don't want to have to remember to plug my phone in at some point during the day when the battery is about to go. Much easier to plug in every night.
Battery life is exceptional!
I was having problems with my original battery; the phone would simply power down even though it showed that it was charged; and did not have long battery life.
I bought a new battery now I get 3 even 4 days of use with some Bluetooth and WiFi use (not much though). The new battery also seems to have solved my power down problem; had it for 4 weeks, not one power down. I am using the LeFab VoxRomWM6.1XIP20202_v1.0. Quite fast on it's own; I do not over clock.

I should be picking up my SGS2 today and I was just wondering what exactly I should be doing with the battery? I've read in a bunch of places that draining the battery fully and then recharging it fully gives better battery life, but I've also read this:
Lithium ion batteries do not respond well to full discharge, you will see reduced capacity and early failure if it happens too often. In any case it is not possible to overcharge the battery on a BlackBerry because the battery and phone have enough intelligence to control the charge (unless the battery is already defective).

And on Android phones, when the battery indicator shows 20% or something, is that when the phone is going to die? Or will it die at 0%? Obviously at 20% it would be to protect the battery but maybe Android has been programmed to show 0% when the battery is actually at 20%.

The manual is probably stored on the phone, at least my new Ascend II came with its stored on the phone, you have to goto the big menu (forgive me for not knowing the technical term for it) to find it however
i got my battery fully charged...then in the first day i discharged it till 10% at least that's what my phone was saying
i read too that the new li-ion batteryes do not need to be "formated" (fully discharged till the phone dies and then fully charged with the phone turned off) in android case i think that thing is not posible coz it needs at least 5% to pass the bootloader and then begin to charge
anyway in my manual it says that the battery will begin the normal state after 8 days of use, until then it may disschage quick

Calibrate the battery. Charge the phone while its switched off for about 6 hours, and then use the phone untill the entire battery runs out and it switches off on its own. After this, the phone should be able to use the battery properly.
i just used my galaxy and made it empty, then charged it full.
nowadays i have runtimes from 3days (72 hours) and then its @ about 5%
there seems to be a lot of back-and-forth regarding whether or not draining a battery is healthy; i drain my iphone battery down to zero about once a month and the battery has been doing fine for two years . . . whether it would be doing just as well without the draining time is anyone's guess.
I have always been under the impression that lit-ion batteries do not need any kind of special care or break in. But since our phones estimate the charge, we should occasionally let the battery run out to reset the calibration in case it gets screwed up.

I don't think you need to worry about draining the battery till it's dead. My phone dies often and the battery is still kickin It's my understanding, that the purpose of draining the phone before you charge it is to calibrate what the OS says for charge remaining to the battery's actual charge.

I have my sgs 2 since June and it's working pretty well apart from the battery drain which is very harmful in my daily life
I've recently flashed the Cognition 1.30 (last friday). Before that, my sgs was able to last the entire day before discharging with a moderate use (10-20 mn on games, few sms, 15 mn consulting mails, 1 hr on internet). Since i've flashed with the cognition Rom, the battery drain is really awesome!!!!!!
I fully charge the phone (switched off) then when i switch it on and the phone stays idle, after 1 hr or so, i've already lost almost 20%. When i'm on internet or playing games, the battery loss is approximatively of 1% per min.
I've made a full wipe and recalibrated my battery so normally it should at least last a day and thats not the case.
Could somebody help me or should i buy a new battery and test it ?
Because i relly like this rom and from others users, it has a good feedback concerning the battery use
I'm running virtuous Inquisition 4.0, I've cleared the battery stats a couple of times and no matter what I do when I get down to like 40 percent, the phone crashes and then when it reboots I'm at 4 percent. Sometimes it just does it if I reboot. I can't figure it out. Its really bugging me. Anything I can to to fix this?

Where is the power saver in this rom? I can't find it. I've also noticed the battery draining unusually quickly from screen use. I just went from 54 to 30% from 10 minutes of use. Its been on 12 hours now and I'm assuming that's an inaccurate reading but still disconcerting.
What about the classic backup, wipe and flash technique? It's worth a shot if you haven't already.
Inquisition doesn't have power saving enabled, so that isn't the cause.
Barring a corrupt ROM or firmware, as suggested above do a superwipe and reflash both first, your graph looks like a failure in the battery.
Does it get hot, or has it ever been heat damaged? I'd suggest replacing the battery, if the wipe doesn't help.
Wiping battery stats doesn't actually do anything, unfortunately. Battery readings come from the battery itself. I've noticed mine's been pretty bad lately, 15% then if I reboot it's back up to 40%. 10 minutes later, 20%.
The best you can do is charge the battery all the way, discharge it all the way, charge it back up, and hope for the best.
I don't think its ever been hot enough to get heat damaged. I mean I suppose that could be the cause. My phone hasn't been through a full.power cycle in awhile so I will try to completely charge and discharge it for the rest of this week and I'll monitor the voltage readings. Its been a bit more stable today but still not lasting as long as it has been in the past. If the charges and discharges don't fix it I will reflash the rom. Still doesn't explain why like every other morning my phone will say 80 percent or something after being plugged in all night but after a power cycle it reports 100 percent. Could that also be a symptom of a bad battery? I can probably have T-Mobile replace it. Or maybe I'll buy an expanded capacity one. First I want to try to fix this one though. I'll report back. This is quite ridiculous. It was at 7 percent for like 6 hours today. I never know how much battery I have left. It's not like I'm getting bad battery life because I've been on for 14 hours today with heavy use but the readings are so inaccurate.
I'm going to do a full wipe, redownload everything, reflash firmware, radio, and the rom and then once I get everything set up again, if it's still doing it I will go get a new battery, probably one of those Anker 1900mAh ones that someone told me about on the virtuous rom thread. I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not that it started happening when I updated the ROM but other people aren't having the issue (except for one or two) so I don't think it's a ROM issue, probably battery hardware.

Damn, that's impressive. What's up with that spike halfway through though? I think I'll just buy a new battery, even if this battery isn't broken, just because my god, 22 hours with 6 hours of screen on is incredible. I don't normally have more than 2 hours of screen time in a day and my battery will only last 16 hours
The spike is where the phone was reset, the battery percentage always jumps up 10%-15% on a reboot then goes back down in a few minutes. Also, the screen on time was closer to 7hrs
I would caution that I'm getting excellent mobile signal for 98% of the day, your results will probably be lower with your signal issues - have you tried the new radio driver from Tmobile?
I thought that this was an isolated case but I just had this as well. I've got 25% then I installed something via adb and need to restart. After reboot, the meter reads 45%. Absurd really.
My signal issues are not phone related, its just where I go to school. I did install the T-Mobile radio and have had much better 3g coverage and signal where I thought it was a complete dead zone. Most of the time I just turn off data and sync during school to save battery. After I did 3 complete drains and charges I have noticed that its been more consistent in reading. Still not lasting quite as long but its not stair stepping anymore in the graph. It is a little bit but not as bad as before. I'm still thinking about getting that anker battery anyway. I'm still only getting like 16 hours with 1 to 2 hours of screen usage which I would like to extend. I have a car charger so when it does die when I'm out its not the end of the world but its still irritating.
So I've concluded its a bad battery. Its started doing it again, much worse now. It randomly just loses power several times a day, as if I took the battery out but I didn't. I also.downloaded a detailed battery graph app, I took a picture of my voltage chart throughout today and its all over the place. I'll call to get a replacement tomorrow and then I might also get the anker battery. I'm getting sick of the phone just going black in the middle of a conversation or something rather. Other sensation owners have run into this problem.also.
have you guys all updated to the lastest firmware out and newest version of the rom?
No, I'm planning on flashing that tonight though. Hopefully it just turns out to be a kernel issue and it resolves when I update. That voltage graph appalled me.
when i first start using VI i had about 8-10 hour battery life, i looked around in rom manager, saw some cm9 roms, backed up my VI, and tried the cm9. didnt like it and restored my VI backup. Now my battery life is about 18-20 hours. i dont know what happened there but it helped alot. maybe somebody else with bad battery life should try this and see if it helps.
Well, I dropped my phone, landed on a concrete floor on the corner of the phone, cracked the corner of the screen and the camera lens. But I have insurance, so I'm getting a new phone within a few weeks (it's backordered right now through asurion) and when I get the new one I plan on purchasing an anker battery to solve all of the battery life woes. Asurion offered me an HTC Amaze but it has worse battery life, it's bigger and heavier and not that much better, so I'm sticking with the sensation.
So I've had my Samsung Galaxy S 4G for over a year now. Rooted it many times with no issues. Until recently, my phone's battery meter seems to be messed up. Sometimes when I charge it to 100%, I use it for maybe an hour and it reaches up to 60%. Then, it randomly shuts off as if the battery is dead. I reboot it and it tells me to Connect my charger because the battery is 0% which is weird because it just said it was 60%. It shuts off again immediately and I wait for like 10 minutes later, then reboot it, only to see it say I have 40%ish left. I have already used Battery Calibration because it has worked in the past but now something seems to be wrong. I even use the Doubletwist Music app and it seems to be draining my battery life significantly more than usual as well (1 hour would take up about 25% of my battery) and the random shut-off because of "low battery" life occurs. Is this a battery problem ?
Try the one click gremlin remover, or flash another ROM. You can also try wiping cache, dalvik, and battery stats if you haven't. If the problem persists then you're probably looking at a bad battery.
Check your battery physically, if is bloated/swollen, then it is defective and needs replacement. but if not, then try going back to stock GB and see if the problem persists.
Take it out, put it on a flat smooth surface. Spin it on both sides. If at least 1 side spins like more than one or two circles, it's broken.
Thanks guys. I never thought a battery would get bloated but when I took it out, I immediately noticed this and haha in regards to the post on top, I thought you were only joking but you were right ! Anyways, I just ordered the same model number of the battery on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ils?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1348188495&seller=&sr=1-1), in hopes that my battery life is back to normal !
Just a note, any recommendations/advice/tips on what you should/shouldn't do in terms of charging a battery. What I usually do is charge my phone every night and unplug it once I wake up. Maybe that contributed to the bloating.
Heat and deep discharge kill Li ion batteries, so your approach is good. Topping it off during the day won't hurt either.

I got a new bat last year and it's already puffy.
I guess that's why I am having worse battery on CM9 then already reported.
Yeah when the battery is bloated around the middle it means you need a new one. Battery life is not that bad on cm9 with a new battery. The old batteries thats been through a billion flashes and possibly overclocking with overheating and cooling are bound to suffer on cm9. Anyways their cheap on Amazon like $7 bucks for OEM.
I am prob gonna get a new extended slim one.
