This has got to be the most useful texting keyboard I've ever seen. It's not released yet, but do you guys think it'll be included in future ROM release like CoOkie's / Energy, etc.?
I'm not sure if it's the same process of adding swype keyboard in to the system, but swype is currently in there so it's possible and it's great, but nothing compared to what it looks like BlindType can do.
Edit Below:
The problems I can see getting in the way is that it's currently being developed only for iOS4 and Android. Wondering if it's possible for all phone types like those running Sense ROMs under WinMo6.5... Plus, it may not even be free. But this keyboard is crazy good!
Bump, my what a busy forum.

Hi!
I've finally gotten my Hero fully working on Sprint, so now I can finally get full usage out of this awesome phone!
I've been trying out different ROMs and so far I'm sticking between Modaco and Fresh's 1.5 ROMs. (I tried a few of the 2.1 builds and they're awesome but I need my camera to work!)
Anyhow, I'm new to Android and Widgets and Scenes and all this, and I'm wondering what my fellow Heroes are doing to get the most out of their phones.
How do you guys organize your 7 pages? Does anyone have their Scene customized perfectly for their use? I'd love to see some screenshots of what you consider to be your perfect and most efficient setups. I'm looking for ideas on the best ways to place my shortcuts and widgets, and if anyone can recommend some aftermarket widgets, I'd love to hear about it!
Link to some info about Android Apps
Just thought I'd post a link to android forums, looks like a great place to get started looking for tested and interesting apps for Android!
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/
Finally got my hands on my G Tablet today. I must have the newer one that Rushless mentioned...mine appeared to be a finished product right out of the box. Even the TNT UI seemed to work pretty well. I think it's got a little ways to go to be "great", but it was pretty good already.
Anyway, I installed TNT light after about an hour. I wanted the Android Market and wanted to see YouTube working. Rooting and installing the new ROM was easy, but it leaves me wanting a hybrid of the two interfaces. Most ROMS (maybe all ROMS?) are put together with the idea of running on a smartphone. The TNT UI from Viewsonic seemed to be pretty well thought out for use on a Tablet.
So, my question is this: Are there any Market apps that would mimic the homescreen layout of a tablet? I can't see staying with the TNT Lite UI because it's just like having a giant cell phone. Reminds me of those giant calculators you buy as a gag-gift for old people!
I like the flexibility of TNT Lite. Choose my own background, no restrictions for apps, Flash works, etc. But the layout isn't really "tablet-like".
What do you guys suggest for apps? Or, is there a way to recreate the panels that TNT has?
Thanks!
i think it may be nice to just find really nice widgets. you'll be able to build it all how you want and still have a fast and responsive ui
Agreed. But so far I haven't found any Widgets that are the right size for the G Tab. Anyone have any suggestions?
Maybe I should ask this another way (to hopefully get more responses ).
Is there a way to customize the stock TapNTap ROM that comes standard on the G Tab? It would be nice to have their panelled layout AND customize the background images, colors, etc.
I wonder how hard it would be for someone to develop a Froyo based ROM that is specifically made for a 10" tablet. I've done a little development in my past, but only Windows based stuff.
Have you tried Beautiful Widgets?
If you want a "tablet-like" UI. You can try one of those HC roms~
a HC rom is the way to go for the tablet-like UI, but search for keywords like "tablet" when in the android market for tablet supported apps

you really ressurected an 8 month old thread to give a guy advice on the UI? Countless roms and launchers have been developed since then, I sincerely doubt that he's still having issues 8 months later.
Hello.
I am new to the Android community, only just getting my first.
Used to visit these boards some years ago, as an HTC Diamond winmob user.
Was previously an iOS user, enjoyed theming on that.
I'm familiar with tweaking those and psp's but Android is all new to me.
That said, I'm hoping to get some pointers on - I guess - the Android equiv. to an iOS jailbreak, applying a cooked rom I believe.
The current best one, perhaps a guide/wiki page for how to apply them.
Loving 3D quality on these.
Look fwd to trying some snes emu /got a recommended one?/ and just generally modding the look of it.
Thanks & bonjour
Hey, welcome
Well there's actually not really an equivalent to a iOS Jailbreak for Android. I view Android as an already jailbreaked version of itself.
If you're new to Android, I would suggest enjoying stock rom for a while longer. Especially when there's still not a lot of roms out for this phone yet.
What do you want to do to the phone? For example, you said jailbreaking iOS and applying themes. If that's what you're after, you don't need to put in a custom rom. A custom rom is similiar to a custom rom for your old HTC Diamond. Its pretty much a rom with some stock apps removed and some new apps added. In addition, they'll be other modifications that will benefit the rom over a stock rom. However, if you're only interested in applying a custom rom for the different theme, I would suggest against putting in a custom rom for now.
You can download launchers such as ADW Launcher EX, LauncherPro, GO Launcher, or any other launcher you have your eyes on and download themes for that.
Hmm, this phone could handle psx emulation so SNES emulation is no problem. For the snes, I believe this one has pretty good reviews.
Enjoy the phone, take some time to enjoy some of the different aspects Android has over iOS. Then when you get bored, explore some roms. Its very addicting.
Thanks DevJackey, thats very helpfull.
I'll take your advise and stick to stock rom for now.
I was thinking, besides theming, just getting some nice tweaks/mods on, but as you correctly stated, Android is already 'jailbroken' as it were, so dont really need to flash rom in order to install whatever i want. - So long on iOS i forget that not _every_ provider locks you out from adding your own stuff
Great info re: the launchers, i'll be looking into those for adding themes.
Cheers for the SNES link, perfect.
thanks again
I would love to offer any help I can to make this mod a reality. So far, I have gathered the following links that will surely be helpful in making this mod.
There are many users on the different individual rom threads, especially in senseless and aosp/cm9 roms, who are requesting to install HTC_IME (Touch Input), as it is the best input option around for some languages. I can attest firsthand to the fact that the Chinese handwriting input is by far the best handwriting input available for android (HTC is a Taiwanese company), so please don't suggest that everyone who wants htc_ime just go and download some other keyboard. They really did a good job with it, and people want to use it on AOSP!
The work done so far:
Jonas made the mod for gingerbread and devices with lower resolution screens. There is a lot of information about it here and links to downloads. It works on non-htc android devices.

Original HTC_IME mod thread by jonas. The last page or so of the thread is full of posts of people saying please make this mod for ICS/qhd. So far, no one has done it...

This is a HTC_CIME mod for qvga screens. You can see in the screens that it works on MIUI and with multi-language support. This seems like a very good lead, as it may possibly work on our device if scaled up!

A way to get touch input back into virtuous inqusition rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462460&highlight=with+libs
And finally, from our very own device theme forum, there is of course the package done by MichaelM. I think this is going to be our best shot at getting this working in aosp roms. I triead flashing the file "with libs" (should include multi-lang) on Vorbeth's rom, but it just continuously FCs with u select touch input (but touch input does show up!).

As I said, I am willing to learn as much as I need to to help make this mod, I just need someone with a bit more experience than me to offer some help! Can someone please give even a brief overview of how to do this. Do we need to run logcats to find out lib dependencies? I'm sure the whole process can't be all that difficult (well, one can hope!).
Thank you in advance, sensation community!
p.s. if I forgot to give credit to anyone else who has done work on htc_ime mod please forgive me. Post the info in this thread if you find it so we can get this going!
2 things, 1, I would love to see this mod happen, I've gotten used to the ics keyboard but would still love the HTC one. 2, if possible, the latest HTC_IME keyboard would be best in my opinion because I love the swipe gestures that you can turn on and off without actually using the Swype keyboard because the Swype keyboard isn't something I am entirely fond of anymore

latest is usually best! sounds good to me.
I would love to see that... I am starting to like CM9, but the keyboard just isn't good enough no matter which one I try... I will try gimpsta.com to create one and hopefully will have it working
good luck to you, sir!
BUMP! I really wanna see this happen too! But maybe we are looking at it from the wrong angle? I'm no dev, not in the slightest, but the HTC_IME that comes on the stock sensation is already qHD formatted. Would it be possible/easier to port jonasl's mods to the newer HTC_IME rather than trying to scale up the old one and fix it to run on ICS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844512
a MOD for HTC IME on QHD resolution is out.
Now all we need to do is to put CIME back to it.
Hi everyone.
I come from a Motorola Backflip, that although was a POS device, and didn't get root until ~6 months after release, I used to run CM6/CM7 on it and enjoyed using custom themes. In particular, I really enjoyed those slick, minimalistic themes. I know that there is a popular theme being developed (BlueICS or something) and I don't really dig the extravagant graphics and shading and everything, and much prefer a simple, minimalistic approach to theming. I know that once we get CyanogenMod fully ported to this device, a big number of options will open up for us, but as of right now, is anyone working on any other themes for the existing ROMs we have for this device? Such as a minimalistic theme? Sorry that I don't have any examples of what I'm looking for but I'm sure if you search for some you'll find some good ones around XDA. I'm sure some other people also prefer a similar look to their device and I was just wondering if anyone more capable than myself had considered working on such a theme.
Nova
I know its not the same, but have you tried using Nova?
I am on cleanROM 2.5 SE and I found the Sense a bit to "busy", I flashed the blueICS theme, and I liked the blue icons in notification as well as some of the other changes that were made it it, but I found using the free version of Nova was more then enough to simplify the general feel of the app drawer and desktop. This takes a little work and would be easier to just flash a theme, but its working great for me, and no theme would make it feel perfect for me?
If that makes sense?
or I could be completely off topic...
Hi, yeah, I'm currently running CleanROM DE and using Apex Launcher and I agree that the launcher does make a difference in the overall look/feel of the device but I'm talking about a full, complete themeing of the device (including stock HTC Sense apps. Here, I included some links of some kinds of themes that I'm talking about (yes, I know that some are for Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread). I also took some screenshots of them in case you don't feel like opening the links.

Got it, currently I have a stack of paps that allow me to get a similar appearance to the dark theme above. It would be nice if a gracious themer would create such a wonderful
